Cozy Cabin Overlooking Beautiful Lake Cuyamaca

Come enjoy some of San Diego's forgotten beauty in this gorgeous, secluded Piute Trail mountain cabin overlooking Lake Cuyamaca and just minutes from the quaint little town of Julian. During your stay, you'll have a chance to see wild deer grazing in the nearby pastures below, wild turkey foraging up and down the hillside (sometimes they even visit the deck!), raccoons getting into their usual mischief, bald eagles soaring above or swooping in for a quick meal, owls, orieles, bluejays, migratory ducks & geese, woodpeckers... and the list goes on! If you're into bird watching and/or photography, this is a great place for both! Using the cabin as a basecamp, you'll be able to explore Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Cleveland National Forest ,Anza-Borrego State Park with their many trails and viewpoints; fish for Florida bass, smallmouth bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and even white sturgeon (Yes, our lake has sturgeon!); picnic on Fletcher Island; go boating; or just take in the peaceful surroundings and vast views from the comfort of the cozy cabin! Open year-round, including the snowy winter months when you can take advantage of the local sledding and snowboarding terrain. Available by reservation only, so plan early!

Just wanted to say thanks for our time at the cabin. It was a great experience! Definitely cool and quiet at night which was a welcome change. The kids enjoyed being able to see all of the stars from the deck. The grill worked quite well for hot dogs and corn on the cob. I appreciate your son coming by to make sure all was well. We were blessed in being able to stay there. All the best to you and your family! - Brian & Ericka

Blissful time at Piute!

We enjoyed our stay at John and Maria's lodge so incredibly much. We stayed for the weekend and the weather was beyond perfect with a cool 70 degree weather overall, the lodge was clean and super cozy! Lodge had all the necessities and the wrap around deck was so nice to hangout on in the afternoons. We were a party of 10, it' was a extremely remarkable stay. John thank you so much I adored and appreciated your attentiveness. Thanks a million for the good time!

Excellent !!!

  • 5 of 5
This getaway has become one of our favorite homes away from home. The Owners, John & Maria , make sure that the property is well maintained and clean. Completely stocked w/ anything you may need and are very helpful in making sure you have enough firewood to keep the fires burning..
My Son, ( who celebrated his 12th Birthday there ) Landed a Beautiful 8 1/2 lb Native Rainbow trout ( 24", ) That just absolutely topped off our stay , and his Birthday weekend. , Perfectly :) We actually caught our limit each day ! And was able to enjoy nature hikes as well.
I would Highly recommend staying here, just to Rise above The Noise, Even if you don`t Fish.
Sincerely, Mr. Franklin L. Wyant

Fun at the Lake

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at this house on the lake. It has a very "homey" feel and is close to the lake, Julian and trails. John (owner) was great to deal with and even brought extra fire wood (just in case we needed it). It's a great spot to get away too.

Great Weekend

  • 5 of 5
Had a great weekend with my family and dogs. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed. The porch was perfect for relaxing and the cabin was big enough for all of us.
We rented a boat on Saturday and spent the day on the lake.
We will definately be back. It was a perfect weekend getaway.

Loved It~Perfect mini-vacation

  • 5 of 5
My family, including four generations, had a great time at Piute Trail Lodge! My 4 grandchildren had plenty of space to play, and had fun exploring around the cabin collecting "woley poleys" and playing hide and seek. No electronics involved! The wind in the afternoons was great for kite flying! Easy walk to take the kids to the lake to explore. The adults spent most of the time relaxing on the huge, beautiful front deck, looking at the great views of lake and mountains. We hope to be able to do it again, soon! With a little flexibility, we slept five adults and four kids 4 to 7 years old, easily! Plenty of space and a beautiful cabin. SO RELAXING! Thanks so much John and Maria!

Most relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at the cabin again. This was one of our favorite get away place. As always the cabin was clean and pleasant. We brought our grandchildren this time and they loved to run around the wrap-around deck and to watch the wild turkeys roaming. Sitting on the deck, breathing pine-scent air, and looking at the lake was relaxing. The nearby Julian town's famous apple pie was good. We rented a Pontoon boat on Lake Cuyamaca and caught 5 crappies for dinner. The large kitchen had every utensils we needed. The gas grill was so convenient that We used it daily to grill steaks, chicken, and hamburgers. We had 5 adults and each one of us liked to occupy our own bed, so we used three of the roll-away beds, and they were surprisingly comfortable. My daughter who was usually picky about beds slept soundly on the roll-away bed. The owner John and Maria were very considerate. They had floor fans prepared for us in case the weather gets too warm. Both of the bedrooms also had ceiling fans. I will recommend this place to my friends and we will definitely come back again in the winter to enjoy the cozy fireplace in the living room.
