House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 10 Sleeps
Honu Hale I - 3BR, 2 Bathroom, sleeps 10 Vacation Rental Mokuleia, Hawaii USA
Why stay in a rental when you can vacation like an owner in this authentic Hawaiian cottage with model furnishings? Experience all the tropical wonders of the North Shore; swim with the turtles, fish, snorkel, kayak, and surf. And if you are brave enough, skydive in your backyard!
Fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waves. Melt into world-class beds and comfortable amenities.
Honu Hale is an authentic Hawaiian beach/oceanfront single story vacation home on the North Shore of Oahu, next to the waters edge.
If you are looking to spend your Hawaiian vacation in a small picturesque town in a secluded area, only 35 minutes from Honolulu, this is the place for you! It has a variety of excellent restaurants and it is a great place for all water-sports, including snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing, and kayaking.
Other favorite activities include walking on the beach, fishing, skydiving, horseback riding, tennis, golfing, biking, and hiking the nearby end of the North Shore Road.
Honu Hale is named after the numerous sea turtles that play in our waters. You can enjoy your dinner in the large backyard as the sunsets dazzle you and the cool ocean breezes gently caress you. Isn't this what a tropical paradise is supposed to be?
Honu Hale is situated on the ocean, with unobstructed ocean views and an unbeatably quiet and private location.
Come stay where the people of Oahu come to get away from the crowds. Mokuleia is on Oahu's North Shore, but is a secret to most. It is just 35 minutes from Honolulu, seven minutes from the town of Haleiwa, and 15 minutes from Hawaii's famous Waimea Bay and Pipeline.
There are no hotels in Mokuleia, and we have empty white sand beaches for miles and miles. This is the Hawaii you dreamed of and thought you could only find on the Outer Islands.
A great horseback riding and equestrian center is just across the street.
Enjoy the sunset every day in your backyard from the bubbling Jacuzzi or on the rooftop deck.
Our backyard is your beach - an amazingly beautiful and peaceful setting of nearly private uncrowded beaches. Mokule`ia provides some of Oahu's best and least crowded surfing. Most of our guests enjoy staying close to home and enjoying the ultimate Hawaiian Paradise. Within a 10 minute drive are fine restaurants, quaint shops, a marina for fishing and sightseeing, and North Shore's world famous surfing.
Just a short drive from the nearly private beaches and sets of both popular TV series Lost and Baywatch (Haleiwa). Honu Hale’s location is also a great home base if you are interested in sightseeing. Conveniently located 10 minutes from the H2 Hwy, you can get across the island within 20 minutes.
No events, parties, or weddings allowed.

I have lived in Hawaii for five years now, but this has definitely been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had on the island.
The house is a little out of the way from the busy surf scene in Haleiwa, adding to its appeal for me. I live in downtown Honolulu, so getting a reprieve from the city traffic was greatly appreciated. I never get tired of looking out to the ocean and seeing so many stars. I loved unwinding in the hot tub and basking in the stars and full moon.
I definitely recommend any local cuisine. The shrimp trucks are great and there’s a ton of delicious hole-in-the-wall spots in Haleiwa.
For a great time, I highly recommend visiting Pearl Harbor around noon/lunchtime for a minimal wait time. The Polynesian Cultural Center is an excellent way to spend a day. It’s interactive and fun, teaching you a ton about Polynesian Islands. Plus if you do the luau, you won’t be disappointed. They’ve got firedancers, lots of hula, and the food is FANTASTIC! It’s one of the best local food luau’s on the island. Diamond Head and La’ie are great places to hike. Take lots of water and wear good shoes.
Most of all I encourage you to enjoy the house itself. A huge part of Hawaiian lifestyle is just hanging loose and relaxing. This house is your opportunity to get away from things for a while… enjoy it. Don’t underestimate hanging out at the house, soaking up some sun, and taking a dip in the ocean.
PS. Say hello to the turtles for us! Watching the whales was awesome!

Not the "Ultra Luxury Beach House" we paid forNot the "Ultra Luxury Beach House" we paid for
We contacted owners/property mgmt w/detailed feedback before leaving a review to give them the opportunity to resolve. The most upsetting part is their LACK OF INTEREST in making things right AND the hoops they jumped through to DECEIVE US. During the back & forth they updated descriptions & photos online & then tried to tell us that we “read it wrong”. BUT we had taken screenshots of the listings before the changes were made. When we pointed out specific changes, they stopped responding.
A few noticeable edits from after our feedback include: Removal of "Ultra luxury Hawaiian getaway. Paradise beach house." Replaced w/"Authentic Hawaiian getaway." Change from "Gourmet kitchen at home" to "Home cooked meal from fully stocked kitchen at home." Change from "beach directly behind Honu Hale" to "when ocean conditions permit." These edits suggest they completely agreed w/our feedback, yet their response was to offer $120 or 4% of what we paid. We rejected the offer because it was insulting.
The best advice I can provide is if you want beachfront access, RENT A DIFFERENT PROPERTY. If you want luxury, RENT A DIFFERENT PROPERTY. If you want a property company that doesn’t stop returning your messages or try to find a fair compromise, RENT A DIFFERENT PROPERTY.
OVERALL: The property needs some TLC & descriptions changed.
NO BEACH / NO ACCESS
NO GOURMET KITCHEN - leftover food burning at bottom of oven filled kitchen with smoke immediately.
DUST: Looking for an outlet it was clear that a vacuum hadn't touched the areas behind furniture & most ledges.
BATH: Black mold & cracked tile on the dolphin shower ledge which is the only ledge you can place anything. Rusty shower rod & shower rings & dirty curtain.
FANS: Blue tape covering fan switches, probably due to the amount of rust / dust in the vent holes.
No Beach = Disappointing Stay
The biggest issue we had with this property is the lack of beach. I think the listing & website should be changed so it is a more accurate description. Our main reason for renting this property was to have beachfront access with my small children. After some research I knew that because it was winter there may not be beach access in front of the home because of the water level. That was correct, the water remained quite high upon the sea wall during our entire stay. I was however assured that even if this was the case we would have very close beach access just a short walk away. That is no longer true. There is a large fence completely blocking off the path that was once public access. There is no way around it. After speaking with a local homeowner we realized that this fence was put up by the city after a storm washed away part of the beach. This was at least 6+ months ago & there is no plans to remove it. It looks permanent. There are many beaches on the island of course but you need to hop in the car & drive there. We had planned on close access without having to pack the kids, carseats, beach toys, stroller etc etc into the car & drive. It was certainly not convenient for us & had we known we could have rented a different property instead.
THE GOOD: We enjoyed the casual island decor, the large & super comfortable beds, the beatiful view of the ocean from the backyard, the sound of the waves, the outdoor hot tub, The property manager Linda is very nice & friendly although we did have a check-in issue because we were given a wrong key code.
THE BAD: The couch is not in great condition & very uncomfortable to sit on, parking is very limited with only room for 1 vehicle in the garage (any other vehicles must park on the grass beside the highway). There is a section of the floor where the kitchen floor meets the carpet that needs maintenance. There is a throw rug put over the area but on the side of it there are still many exposed sharp nails/pins from the carpet. I was glad that I stepped on it & my baby did not crawl over it first.
Most memorable trip ever!
Great "Home Base"Great "Home Base"
The only other real issue we had was as Hurricane Ana was baring down on the Islands we had no communication with the property manager, we reached out but got no response until after the hurricane passed. Luckily being from Florida we have experience preparing for a hurricane, but we were in an unfamiliar place and could have used some assistance with things like flashlights, batteries, etc.
The two issues above would not prevent me from recommending this property and we would stay there again.
We sincerely apologize that you had difficulty reaching your caretaker during your stay. This is extremely uncharacteristic as our caretaker always provides exceptional service to all of our guests. It is rare to receive the personalized and quality service that our caretakers provide to our guests. Our guests satisfaction is our highest priority. For future stays you can also contact our property management company in the rare event that you cannot reach your caretaker. They are available 7 days a week. The safety of our guests is also very important to us and all of our homes are equipped with safety flashlights, extra batteries, and corded telephones which are stored in the kitchen cabinets. Additionally, the island has an emergency evacuation horn system that you would hear in the event that an evacuation would be required. We will make sure to improve the communication to guests regarding where the safety items are located by detailing the location in the reference book that is left on the counter of our vacation homes. Thank you again for your feedback! We are so pleased that you chose to make our Honu Hale I your home away from home and we look forward to having you as our guest again in the future!
