Cottage, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 4 Sleeps

Casita Encanto is a charming 1 bedroom cottage located in San Diego, California within a short drive from the Gaslamp District. French doors open up onto a private redwood deck that overlooks a beautiful, lush, tropical shade garden. Sit on the deck and enjoy the fragrance of the night blooming jasmine and the flowers of the Trumpet trees. Catch the morning sun on our redwood deck overlooking the entire neighborhood. Go out in the morning in the spring and pick organic nectarines and peaches from our fruit trees.

We created Casita Encanto based on what we like when we travel. Luxury and comfort are very important to us, as well as having a complete kitchen where we can cook our meals, rather than always eating out. I like to be able to wash my clothes when necessary

We are located in a well-established, unique, eclectic, middle class neighborhood, where no two houses are alike. The neighborhood is zoned agricultural with a 1/2 acre minimum lot. You won't find any apartment buildings or sidewalks here, but the occasional rooster or chicken can be seen crossing the road. It is peaceful and quiet with a country feel, just minutes from downtown San Diego. We have lived in this neighborhood for 22 years and absolutely love it. It is the best kept secret in San Diego.

We are within 10 minutes of many fun tourist attractions: Seaport Village, the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, The Embarcadero, Old Town, Coronado Island, the Silver Strand Beach. The Gaslamp District is packed with wonderful restaurants, great music venues, and live theater. We are only 15 miles from the International border.

We are within a 15 to 30 minute drive from the following: Knotts Berry Farm Soak City, most San Diego County beaches, Seal World, Lego Land, the Wild Animal Park, Birch Aquariam and Indian gaming. There are many great hiking areas throughout San Diego County. There is no end to the fun things to do and see while visiting us.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I wanted to recommend an enjoyable vacation stay at Casita Encanto which is a small cottage fully contained and fully equipped that is located in the hills about 7 miles east from downtown San Diego near Fwy 94. The bed is wonderful and it gave me great slumber and the grounds are lush and tropical. I recommend this highly to those who love to try new adventures and who love life. The host and hostess are tremendous people and very cordial. Sure beats a motel or hotel.

Winter Escape

My husband and I along with our dog spent a month here. The cottage was wonderful and Deborah and Jerry were not only friendly and welcoming but very helpful. The place was clean and well stocked and the gardens were outstanding. The location was fantastic. We were able to travel to most of the beaches and into San Diego in under 30 minutes. There were days when we just sat on the deck or in the gardens reading and taking in the peaceful surroundings. We would definitely recommend this place and look forward to returning.

Girls Trip

My girlfriend and I spent a week here with our small dogs. The gardens are beautiful and the owners were very hospitable and helpful. We went to the San Diego Zoo and the botanical gardens and several great restaurants while we were there. The facilities are probably best for a couple but there is space for others. Would go here again. Thanks Deborah.

Beautiful tropical getaway with every amenity imaginable!

Wonderful place! The guest house and gardens are very well maintained - next time we will spend more time there. It is near everything you may need as far as groceries, restaurants, and tourist facilities. The bed is very comfortable, the living area more than adequate, and washer/dryer very nice addition. Everything you could need for cooking any meal is provided and the property is very clean and beautiful. The owners/hosts were fabulous! We will be back...cannot wait!

What can we add to the very favorable reviews listed above. Having lived in San Diego County for 50 years, the Encanto experience was delightful. The access to the major freeways made this a most desirable location for our visits to old friends. The surroundings enabled us to entertain friends. We were impressed with the gardens and the cleanliness of the Casita. We were used to "June Gloom" but the Casita's location was excellent for June weather. We can not say enough for the courtesy of the owners (and their guardian dogs). Having off-street parking was certainly a plus. When we return to the Mainland, we always pick a new place to stay. We would, without hesitation, recommend the Casita.

Very peaceful and convenient

  • 5 of 5
A fantastic property. The unit was clean and well supplied when we arrived and the owners are a joy to meet. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen among the best equipped we've ever encountered. The whole unit is very comfortable and the deck was a fantastic place to relax in the evenings or have a spot of breakfast before heading out for the day.

The location of the unit makes having a car a necessity, but being so equipped, you will find it to be very close to almost anything you may want to see in the area. The freeway is very close and it seemed we were able to get to almost all of our destinations within 10 minutes. Very convenient, and a small price to pay for absolute quiet and solitude in the evenings. Far better for travelers with small children who might appreciate a locale away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown.

All said, we had a lovely time. The pictures don't lie; this is a very nice place to spend a few days, or preferably more! The garden is stunningly pretty and the dogs make great company (Hi, Oso & Mo!).

Great value. If we're in the area, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Truly Enchanted

I've lived in San Diego for 30 years, so I know the area well (and adore it! beautiful, so much to see and do, and great weather.) I needed a place to hole up with my two sweet kitties for three days while my home was being tented. I wanted someplace fully-equipped so I didn't have to leave my kitties alone, easy to get to, yet secluded and very quiet -- a tall order for a tourist town like this. The Casita was perfect. It's charming, very comfortable, immaculate, and any noise came from birds singing happily in the beautiful gardens. I spent much of my time on my computer, and was pleased to find the internet service reliable and very high-speed. And, of course, one couldn't ask for nicer, more considerate hosts than Deborah and Jerry.
