In historic Charleston, we name our houses, and this one is "Anson Garden House". It is located in the heart of historic Ansonborough neighborhood. It has a tall four poster queen sized bed, a kitchen with a dining table and chairs.

There is an off-street parking space for one car, a garden private outdoor courtyard all of which adds to a romantic getaway.

Also is a patio with chairs and umbrellas and an outdoor grill for your use. This is really an incredible property. Painters come back for a painting retreat. Many honeymoon couples come here, then come back again every year to celebrate their anniversaries, also this is a perfect location to attend the Spoleto Arts Festival events.

Many writers come here every year to spend quiet time working on their manuscripts it is so peaceful and inspirational. We are alternate lifestyle friendly.

Alice's Garden cottage

Alice's Garden cottage

This is a perfectly located studio cottage near the historic district and within easy walking distance of many fine restaurants and gourmet groceries on Queen St. With the exception of the yard photos, the inside is not what the cottage looks like. I made the small mistake of not viewing the video that was sent to me of the inside, which is perfectly fine, but not what I expected. The owner's wife, Alice, recently passed away and I believe it has something to do with why the larger Anson House is not open. You will get a separate entrance and all the amenities and it is fabulous, and the ONLY reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because the inside photos are not what you get. So view the video and take advantage of this wonderful locale. The house notes provided are very helpful and there are many other booklets to see. TV, but no radio.

A perfect location: within walking distance of many attractions yet on a quiet street and a parking spot nearby is included. The owners were were very hospitable, helpful and welcoming but at the same time unobtrusive. The decor is beautiful: classic Charleston charm with custom touches here, there and everywhere. All the fixings for light breakfasts are provided. A split of champagne and a fresh rose also welcomed us. We felt pampered! The weather, however, prevented us from enjoying the private enchanted garden complete with fountain. Maybe next time... I would not hesitate to recommend staying at The Anson Garden House. You'll love it!

Fabulous retreat in fabulous location

  • 5 of 5
Hasell Street is the perfect location in Charleston as it is convenient to East Bay Restaurants, the Market, walking the entire peninsula and even the new stuff on Upper King. The classic architecture of this apartment was gorgeous but with all the modern conveniences. It was clean, great bed, nice sheets and a pretty functional kitchen (although we did not use it). We DID use the private courtyard for coffee and cocktails. Would definitely return and the price was right!

Great Charleston Weekend!

  • 5 of 5
Alice's garden cottage is a great apartment in a very nice residential neighborhood. As other reviews have mentioned, it is not a separate cottage per se, but an attached studio apartment to a lovely historic home. It is however, very private, in the back of the house with its own entrance.
It is a lovely accommodation, tastefully decorated and very clean. The owners give you a wonderful assortment of breakfast choices- bagels, juices, cereal, and fruit along with delicious pastries(cinnamon bread was especially tasty!) The apartment is stocked with coffee and teas, along with a bottle of wine. Very nice touches.
We took advantage of the hot tub after a long day of walking around the city and it was a great ending to the day. Very quiet in the back of the house, and very relaxing!
The off street parking is a definite bonus.
The location is great- easy walk to King St and the market area. There is grocery store within an easy drive, or several smaller markets within walking distance if you want to eat in. But, Charleston has such great restaurants within walking distance, you may not need a market!
The only issue we had was sketchy Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is available, but we had to reboot several times.
Overall, this is an excellent accommodation, in a great location with many extra touches - breakfast, wine, hot tub - to enhance your stay. We would, without hesitation, recommend staying here on a trip to Charleston.

Wonderful Hospitality, Great Location!

  • 5 of 5
We truly enjoyed our stay. Walked ALL OVER! Easy to get to most all areas in the historic district. The accommodations were just as pictured. Charming courtyard, comfortable bed, and cozy living space. Our hosts were lovely. Got good recommendations and enjoyed the hot tub. Thank you for your hospitality!

Cozy stay in the Historic District

  • 5 of 5
Our stay in this small apartment was carefully nurtured by our hosts, who live in the attachment main house. An ample and tasty array of breakfast items were provided, rolls, bagels, cereals, juice. David was quick to offer ideas for sightseeing and dining. The absolutely beautiful garden surrounding the pool was a delightful place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The two of us found the apartment to be efficient and comfortable. During our four night stay, we took a city tour, visited Ft. Sumter and Fort Moultrie, and walked the historic district with a guided tour on our smart phone. Although a car is not necessary in this great location, we appreciated the off-street parking provided. Our car enabled us to drive to the Magnolia Plantation and to have a delightful meal at RB's on Shem Creek, where we watched the dolphins frolic as we dined. The one minor flaw was a balky wi-fi connection, which worked OK with our laptops but not our smart phones. We would definitely recommend the cottage to any couple.
