This attractively painted cottage is directly on the water, right at the entrance to Hope Town Harbor. The shore is more rocky than sandy, but shelling opportunities are not bad. From the expansive deck, you get a stunning view over the Sea of Abaco, and the Hope Town Light. Truly awesome.
The cottage itself is wonderful. It's in good shape and very clean. Three bedrooms--the back being a kind of dormitory room with 4 single beds and a half-bath; then two more bedrooms on each side of the main bathroom, one with 2 single beds, and the other with a full size bed. The beds pretty much take up all the space in the bedrooms, but they are comfortable, with quality linens.
The kitchen/dinning/living area is open plan, on the water side of the cottage with three sets of glass doors that open onto the deck--we always had a cooling breeze. Inside furniture is in good shape and is comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. The island uses cistern water, but there is an office-type water cooler in the kitchen for drinking water.
Outdoors, the deck is large and fitted with some very nice furniture, including a cushion sofa and chairs, a dinning table and chairs and some Adirondack chairs. There is a smallish swimming pool (not heated) and an outdoor shower. There are 4 kayaks available for use. Otherwise the cottage sits on one of the largest yards in Hope Town.
A local phone is in the cottage, and the internet worked. My only suggestion would be to trim the shrubs that line the deck as they obscure the harbor entrance when you're seated. We're boat watchers, so relaxing and watching the boats go by is a thing--and Lavender Cottage would be the perfect spot for doing that if the shrubs were just a little lower.
The cottage is at the very edge of Hope Town--right where the sidewalk ends--but it is an easy walk to the shops and restaurants in the village.
Maureen (the owner) and everyone we dealt with at Elbow Cay Properties was absolutely wonderful. I have to especially call out Robinette--a cottage owner simply could not have a better representative!
So. Clean, comfortable, on the water, great views, large yard, walking distance to village amenities, friendly staff...just about perfect to me. IF you're considering a trip to The Abaco's, it will be for you, too.
