Get away from it all while only being 4 miles from award winning wineries. Located on 11 secluded hill top acres with fantastic views. Juniper, oak, cherry, madrone trees and wildlife. The stars are big and bright in Comfort, Texas. Comfort has a great historical downtown area that includes restaurants, wine tastings and plenty of unique shops. Our cabin is located at one of the highest points in the county and overlooks the Guadalupe river valley and the lights of Comfort approx. 9 miles away. Our Eco-friendly home is a historical designed 'Dog Run'. Fashioned after my families original homestead built in 1856. This low impact structure features a rain harvesting system, recycled bottled glass for insulation, locally sourced building materials, grey water recycling system and a grid tie wind/solar power system that generates over a kilowatt of power. Slice of Heaven!

My husband and I immediately fell in love with this remarkable place! The cabin, views and winding trails were heavenly. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in the Texas Hill Country.

Wonderful place to get a away and relax

  • 5 of 5
I spent hours & hours of research to find the 'right' place for my husband and I to stay while visiting the Texas Hill Country.
Rick's Comfort Cabin did not disappoint in any way! What an experience driving up the hill to get to the cabin! The moment we opened the gate and drove in we fell in love with the 'concept' of the property. It is evident that this property has been a labor of love for Rick and his wife. The grounds and cabin are meticulously kept.
Rick is environmentally conscious and generous and easy to deal with, the view is terrific, and the seclusion unbeatable.
The second "bedroom" is a loft that's a little difficult to access but I don't know why you would need or want a second bedroom because the place is perfect for two and you wouldn't want anybody else with you. This is definitely a place we would recommend and would come back to.

So relaxing! So quiet you can hear a pin drop. Loved watching the birds at the feeder. The trails were very well groomed. Loved the eco friendly cabin atmosphere. Just what I needed and I will return. Thank you!

Far from Stress....Close to Comfort

  • 5 of 5
Rick's Comfort Cabin has become a favorite of ours. This is our second stay and will not be our last. The cabin is very secluded; you can feel your stress melt away the minute you see that breathtaking view.
All you have to do is show up and enjoy. Rick has provided every convenience.. in the kitchen (i.e. Pots, pans, dishwashing liquid, trash bags, glasses, plates & silverware, etc.) to shampoo & soap in the bathroom. And a BBQ grill on the patio.
Went visited Hill Country Pottery in Comfort and several wineries in the area this visit. Explored Fredericksburg & Luckenbach, only 20-30 minutes away. In the evening, we sat by the fire pit on the patio, stargazing and enjoying a bottle of wine from our wine trail excursion. Rick provides plenty of wood for the fire pit.
We are so glad to have found this perfect getaway. Thanks Rick for your hospitality and sharing your wonderful place!

Exceeded expectations

We stay in vacation rentals exclusively and often in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. I must say that from beginning to end staying at Rick's Comfort Cabin was easy and enjoyable. Rick was very attentive and proactive with his communication. The property is so well thought out. The Dog-Run style house, which is very historical here in the south, was such a novel idea and even though it may seem strange it is very functional and it was so well laid out. The View is the star here but the amenities were great. We loved using the wood stove at night, as we were there during one of the coldest ice storm periods in recent memory. We were cozy and comfy. Wifi works great, bathroom is nice with general supplies of shampoo/conditioner etc. Firepit outside was wonderful. Plenty of wood was available and most of all we were able to bring our dog Sadie with us. She romped and ran all over and loved the nature trail down into the canyon below the house. The garden had some nice winter vegetables as well. The house is just down the road from a vineyard and only 20 minutes to Kerrville and other areas of interest. We will definitely be back.

Don't tell anybody about this wonderful gem!

Don't tell anybody about this wonderful gem!

On our way to our 25th annual pilgrimage to José's parent's home for Thanksgiving, we booked four nights at Ray's Comfort Cottage as a "release valve" following a busy summer and early fall. We needed to chill, especially before spending Turkey Day with 15 of our "nearest & dearest" extended family. However, we experienced "chill" in more than one way!

The first bitterly cold days of winter arrived at the hilltop location as we did. High winds, icy rain and even some snow flurries kept us inside the uniquely-designed cabin the entire visit. Except for a couple of forays into Comfort & nearby Kerrville, we snuggled VERY comfortably in the two large rooms that make up the main parts of the cabin. The ground-floor big bedroom features a homey pot-bellied stove and just outside is a large collection of cut logs. (The stove was unnecessary, as the modern place is heated without you having to lift a finger. But using the stove is a hoot and a welcome echo of earlier times. And it's cozy as all get-out.)

A loft bedroom is over the open-sided "breezeway" between the kitchen and bedroom and accessible only from the lower bedroom by a library-style ladder. Perfect for kids and teens, and even adults, heat/AC (and sound) is shared by all three spaces.

The large kitchen/dining space is perfect. Everything you could possibly want or need is at hand -- serviceable pots and pans and lids and much more, including spices! The dishware is a delightful mish-mash but the silverware needs an upgrade. It's just too small. The refrigerator is a surprise treat nearly filled with food! And more foods are apparent everywhere in the cabinets and drawers! You could arrive with nothing but the clothes on your back and not have to leave for a fortnight! (Not even for wine or fresh apples!) I think the theme is "Pay it Forward," with guests silently encouraged to leave behind better than they used. And Ray ENCOURAGES guests to harvest from his garden, too. We enjoyed the last of the tender lettuces & mustard greens before the freezing storm hit. Great with our ribeyes.

Our Black Lab loved the property. She (Artemis) got to run around the 14 fenced-in acres like a mad woman, reveling in the leashless lifestyle. Neighbors are nowhere in sight.

The TV needs to be adjusted (as the on-screen instructions say), but a few stations came in perfectly.

Again I admonish: keep this wonderful place a secret! We don't want the mere hoi- polloi taking up all the reservation space!

Owner's Response: Hi, thank you for your review and suggestion. In keeping with the recycle/reuse spirit, we buy our silverware and dishes from thrift stores. It also works well will the old style look and decor of our cabin. However when we can find quality we buy it and will be upgrading or silverware as we can. Hope to see you again soon.
