Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 8 Sleeps

CampWegatchie is located on the Oswegatchie River near Oxbow, NY featuring panoramic waterfront views from a unique private setting. There is excellent fishing on the river for small mouth bass, bullhead, walleye and pike. It is also a prime habitat for the lake sturgeon which is making a comeback. There are many surrounding lakes such as Moon lake, Yellow lake and Black Lake which offer additional fishing oportunities. If you would like to bring your own boat, there is a place to keep it at the cabin. It can be launched close by. A variety of ducks, Canada geese, whip-or-wills, deer, turkey and an occasional bald eagle are some of the wildlife that you are likely to see. The updated cabin has a small master bedroom with a full size bed plus a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds including one double bed. The living room couch also pulls out to a double. The cabin comfortably accomodates 6 adults but can sleep 8 when using the sleeper couch. Sweeping views from everywhere in the cabin seems like it brings the water right into your lap. The village of Oxbow is just 2 miles away for gas & convenience items. The town of Gouverneur is 8 miles away for shopping, dining, bowling, golf and hospital. Alexandria Bay is 25 miles away and it's just 40 miles to Watertown.

My girlfriend and I stayed for a week and loved it. Canoeing the river was a blast. Spent a day in Alexandria Bay, only about a half hour away. Would highly recommend for couples.

We enjoyed our vacation so much at the camp. We found the cabin to be clean and comfortable with all the necessities. We were surprised that the area had do much to explore (especially the wineries !!). Would defionetly recommend it to anyone who wants to get away and just relax. First vacation we have taken in awhile and am so glad to found this.

The Best Vacation Spot EVER!

  • 5 of 5
I came across this place by pure luck, and it turned out to be the best Vacation spot that we have ever had! I talked to Bob to see if the place was available and would accommodate our needs. Amazingly, it worked out perfectly and Bob was extremely accommodating... THANKS BOB! For the past 9 years now, a number of friends and myself have been taking a week for just the guys and camping and this place is a guys paradise!! ( although its perfect for just about anyone who loves nature and getting away from it all ) Our week was spent mostly outdoors enjoying the sun and the atmosphere that only a place like this can bring. The rope swing also proved to be a perfect outlet for some fun as well. On the few nights that it did rain, we were able to take refuge in the cabin ( Air conditioning and all!! ) and relax with a movie or some darts or other games.

Additionally, when all the guys arrived, they couldn't stop raving about what an amazing place that this was and the pictures did it no justice! This is such an amazing place... Thanks so much for sharing a bit of paradise with us BOB!

Time away witth family :)

  • 5 of 5
I was very pleased with the cabin. First time we have been there. I have 3 small children 9,6,5 so I was a bit nervous being right on the river, but over all it was good. My kids just put on life vests and ventured right out on the water, so many wild life to see as well... frogs, snakes, beautiful bugs...U must love them, cause they are there to see. I loved the dirt road to the place as well,& the old bridges too one of my favorites. We stayed for 9 days, that really was our first family vacation, very affordable, we went all over the place, out to dinner, old forge water safari, ( which was 2hrs. away) but totally worth the drive. We cooked out almost every night on the grill, the bugs weren't even that bad. I wouldn't bring very small children, but my kids are at the age were they can get in the river with life vest and swim out a bit. And I loved that the cabin had everything you really need, even down to toothpicks. HA! It was so nice to just "get away" from everything. It was clean, I even loved that it had a vacuum cleaner too, cause staying there for so long, specially with kids I had to clean a bit under them. My husband can't wait to go back, he loved fishing, and going on the canoe too. I have well over 400 pictures of the place, and when showing my friends & family, they where all like wow, beautiful view. What was also really nice is having the owner Bob, call me and really tell me about the cabin. I was one of those people that was nervous and he made me feel like I was truly going to enjoy myself. The one thing I will change is my phone service since we have T-mobile it didn't work, so we were without service the whole time, that made me very upset...so if you have t-mobile be ready for no service. I will come again for sure! Great time with my family.

A Perfect and Peaceful Home Base

  • 5 of 5
After attending a conference in Rochester, my wife and I were looking for a little place to rest and relax before heading back home to the Midwest. The serenity and peacefulness of Camp Wegatchie were more than we had expected. With no other cabins or homes anywhere in sight, we felt like we had the whole river to ourselves! We enjoyed eating our breakfasts on the deck and listening to all of the birds before we hit the road for day trips to all of the activities that the area had to offer. We were within easy driving distance to rafting on the Black river, hiking in the Adirondacks and sight-seeing in Alexandria Bay, and on days when we didn't want to travel around, we pulled the kayaks out of the shed and paddled up and down the river. Bob was a gracious host who called us after we booked our reservation so that he could explain what to expect upon our arrival and gave us a few pointers on what to bring. We weren't necessarily looking for the lap of luxury when we booked the cabin, but we were looking for a peaceful home base for our adventuring. This clean, comfortable and well-equipped cabin exceeded our expectations.
