A Riverside Retreat is located in the scenic town of Index, WA, only one hour from downtown Seattle, and 25 minutes from Stevens Pass. Index is the smallest town in western Washington with only 150 residents, but it offers some of the biggest views and the nicest people in the state.

Our riverfront 2-bedroom home sleeps 4 in absolute luxury with new World-Class Simmons Beautyrest Pillow Top mattresses with 600 thread-count linens. The home also includes a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor gas grill with rotisserie, complimentary gourmet coffee (regular and decaf), complimentary popcorn for movie time, and a full-size washer and dryer. There is a phone on site with unlimited calling to the US and Canada.

Though we offer a huge array of entertainment options, most people are mesmerized by the natural beauty of the area, the sight and sound of the river, the smell of the air, and the peace and quiet they have been craving. See our 5-star reviews and contact us today!

lovely and cozy home away from home

  • 5 of 5
This Index house is one of a kind. It offers more than any hotel can offer. Magical sleeping experience on the cloud-like bed, and beautiful views of the forest with the snow covered mountain peaks.
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy house, and regreted that we could not stay longer. For people like us, who likes outdoor activities , this house is ideal: it is surrounded by sights of waterfalls and hiking trails, it has a jaccuzi and mountain river, on top of everything there are plenty of bicycles to explore sight seeings. It felt like luxury camping in the middle of forest. Thank you dear owners:)))

Fantastic, Inspiring Location

  • 5 of 5
We used this rental for a movie shoot, so it was not a typical rental, but the location was just fantastic. You are in between gorgeous river views and a sheer cliff, that seems like something out of a storybook. Cast members noted that they had not seen a location like this outside of Norway, yet this was actually a very easy, brief drive about an hour outside Seattle. I would love to visit again as an actual guest, based on the scenic views. The house itself was very well-kept and homey. It is someone's home, so that seemed to make sense. Definite 5 star rating. Thanks to these guys for being so open to an art project in their home!

Owner's Response: After asking some pointed questions about content and receiving the right answers that this was a legit and family friendly operation, we were happy to have these respectful guests use our location for their movie. We agree that the scenery is spectacular and many people remark that they can't believe such a place exists only an hour from a major west coast city. We hope to see them back when they are not working!

Romantically enchanting

  • 5 of 5
I have been here too many times to count. I just keep coming back. This is hands down the best place to stay if you love the outdoors. The Skykomish river is literally in the front yard. There are tons of hiking trails nearby. Stevens Pass is a few minutes away. From the front porch Mount Index is breathtaking, especially when covered in snow. The hammock and fire pit are perfect in the summer, as are snowball fights and the hot tub in the winter. For those who aren't into the outdoors, there's a huge tv with cable and tons of movies, a wii, and non-electronic games too. The house is great for groups, couples, or solo. Speaking of couples, I always thought winter would be my favorite time to visit, but that all changed this summer. I got engaged during my most recent visit to A Riverside Retreat. I couldn't imagine a more appropriate place for this to have taken place. It's a moment I will never forget. The setting is perfect, no matter what you're looking for. After your first visit to A Riverside Retreat, you won't be able to stay away either.

Good place to have a vacation

  • 4 of 5
The house was clean and rooms are fine.
One thing I disappointed was that there was food garbage in trash can in the kitchen (the owner said it would be a mistake of housekeeper).
Even though it was slightly rainy it was good.
Since we had babies, we couldn't enjoy many activities. But we totally enjoyed the house. There was a guitar my son loved, Wii I loved, and hot tub my kids liked.
There is a market in walking distance.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the business and the feedback Hyunsoo. So glad to hear that your family had a great time and you found plenty to do in the house. We've equipped it with the guitar and board games and movies and cable tv and wi-fi and video games and magazines and books to give everyone something to do.

On the small food pail - when we brought this up with the housekeeper she was mortified as her standards are extremely high. You commented on how clean the place was so you saw that for yourself. We have a compost pile out back as an option for people who like to separate their food waste from the other garbage. This small pail has a lid on it with a charcoal filter so that there is no smell. While it's usually scrubbed clean, it was missed on this occasion. Hopefully you can overlook that detail and stay with us again sometime!

Amazing vacation spot

  • 5 of 5
Clean, well appointed, stylish, good price, with great views in a great location. The owners were kind, helpful, and quick to respond to emails and inquiries. It's better than the pictures!

This was the perfect home base for me and my husband's hiking vacation, probably the best trip we've ever taken. It also would make a great artist's retreat. With plenty of plein air scenes right off the front porch, I'm glad I had my traveling watercolor kit!

A whole laundry lists of gorgeous hikes are easily accessible from Rt 2; Lake Serene, Necklace Valley Lakes on the Foss River, Alpine Lookout via Meritt Lake, falls at Wallace State park just to name the few we tried. wta.org had a bunch more.

After your outdoor activities in the unparalleled beauty of the cascades, you can come home to soak in the hot tub, relax on the porch and watch the sun play on the incredible mountains that surround you, curl up on the plush couches with a good book, make delicious dinner in a kitchen with all the essentials (including sharp knives, something you don't always find at rentals!). At the end of the day you can collapse on an incredibly soft bed, pop in your earplugs (thoughtfully provided!), and sleep like a rock.

The only down side was I didn't want to leave!

Owner's Response: Ruth - thank you for the hikers review, and we're so glad you found the place enjoyable. You're exactly right that we have some world class hikes within minutes of the cabin. Hopefully you felt our book outlining them was helpful. We're currently staying here ourselves and you're right about the knives - my bandgaged thumb is testament to that! You're welcome back anytime.
