House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Welcome to your private vacation paradise!

This 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, Mediterranean stone and stucco home is just one block from the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The huge private yard has lush tropical landscaping with paved pathways, a courtyard, a stone patio with fireplace, a gazebo and a beautiful heated pool.

Stroll down to Sunset Beach - one of the best-kept secrets in Florida.

This is not the Sunset Beach near St. Pete in Treasure Island. That beach is pretty crowded. If you're like us - you'd rather have the beach to yourself. Our Sunset Beach beach has more wildlife than tourists. Walk out the short causeway and onto the sandy beach. You are surrounded by the gulf, the shorebirds, palm trees and the gentle sea breezes. During the day you can launch a boat, a windsurfing or kite sailing rig - or you can just relax and sunbathe or take a dip. Each evening folks gather to watch the sunset.

It is perfect for families, nature-lovers, sports and windsurfing enthusiasts or for couples who just want a relaxing and romantic escape.

Florida Oasis

Our chilly arrival to Florida was soothed by the beauty of the lush gardens surrounding the pool. The winding paths through the gardens presented us with something new each time during our 3 week stay. There were several areas for sitting and relaxing so one could enjoy the warm sun or avoid its harsh PM rays. The owner's response to our inquiry about heating the pool was immediate.

The comfortable home was well stocked and comfortably furnished. While we would have enjoyed a TV in the master bedroom. Free Internet access provided us opportunity to catch the morning news and ease into the day.

Tarpon Springs has many fine Greek restaurants and shops. We also found Rusty Bellies right on the water, that served delicious, fresh seafood. Our best dining experience was at Zantes in downtown Tarpon Springs. Excellent food and unique environment, with a trained chef, make this a treasure for all. Clearwater, home of our Phillies Spring Training field is only 30 minutes away.

We already have reservations for next year. This is a private oasis in a quiet neighborhood only three blocks from Sunset Beach.

It's the garden area of this rental that makes it so special. It's private, quite and conducive to reading, outside dinning, lounging or playing in the pool. We needed the pool heater on, but that was no problem as the owner talked me right through it. The house is good, a little worn but suited our needs just fine. It has a well equipped kitchen with lots of dishes and silverware and having beach towels and chairs is a plus. The toys under the bed were a big help with the children. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, though none you can walk to and you can also get into Tampa or Clearwater in 30 minutes. I will definitely go back if it's available next year.

We had a wonderful stay !!! The house is great, very comfortable. Everything you need was there. We contacted the owner to have the heater turned on the pool. They respone right away. No problems. So we enjoyed the pool with our granddaughter. I loved the furnishings in the home as well as the art work. The gardens are wonderful. You want to come back often to see what it looks like. We did harvest a myer great. (they let you enjoy the fruit while you are there) Walking thur the gardens is like an hunt for what you will see next. We can not say enough about the place. Close to town of Tarpon Springs, also to both parks and beaches. Close drive to Clearwater and Dundein. We want to book next year for a longer period of time!

Gulf Beach Gardens- a private enclave

  • 5 of 5
We had a great vacation at Gulf Beach Gardens. What a relief it was to escape the winter up north last year and chill in this tropical oasis. The landscaping is so lush and lovely, you would think there is a full-time gardener on the property. There are hundreds of interesting plants including numerous fruit trees. We loved stepping out the door and picking citrus fruit. The pool area is a private enclave surrounded by palm trees- great for entertaining, grilling and chillin'.

Located in a quiet neighborhood, the house is just two blocks from beautiful Sunset Beach, one of the best places to learn kite surfing in the country. The owner said she could help locate someone to teach us how to kite surf but we opted to try windsurfing instead. She found us a windsurfing rentals and an instructor and suggested we try Fred Howard Park, a 155 acre park, a mile or two up the road. Fred Howard Park is a very safe place to learn to windsurf, surrounded by flat water. You launch from an island off a causeway. Out on the island you can also rent bikes, umbrellas, kayaks and various small boats.

After windsurfing many days we were starving. Luckily, there are tons of great inexpensive restaurants in Tarpon Springs, which is famous for sponges and Greek food. There are tons of things to do in Tampa Bay, but we didn't stray far because everything we needed was so close at hand. When we visit Gulf Beach Gardens next year, we will be sure to see more of Tampa Bay.

Activity and Interests

Just minutes away...

We are just two blocks from beautiful Sunset Beach - but there are lots of other great things to do in the neighborhood.

Swim, windsurf or snorkel at Fred Howard Park. This 155 acre park is located just a few blocks north of the house. Fred Howard provides access to the Gulf of Mexico by a 1-mile long causeway. The white sandy beach is great for kids.

Attention windsurfers - Fred Howard offers some of the best flat water windsurfing conditions in the state of Florida. There are also umbrella, kayak and boat rentals.

Soak up the history of Tarpon Springs. Visit this quaint town and see examples of early Victorian architecture and, of course, the historic sponge docks. There are also dozens of antique shops, Greek shops and many delightful Greek and seafood restaurants.

See manatees and dolphins on the Anclote River. The Anclote River is a great place to see Florida wildlife. Several tour boats offer 90 minute environmental and adventure trips along the river to the Gulf of Mexico and Anclote Island, a pristine uninhabited barrier island. For the more adventuresome - a kayak is a great way to explore the Anclote River. Rent a kayak or charter a kayak fishing trip or an "eco-tour."

Bike the Pinellas trail. Stretching from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, the trail links parks, scenic coastal areas and residential neighborhoods. Bike, walk or skate on the smooth paved surfaces. Stop and have lunch in one of the restaurants. You can rent bikes at several places along the trail.

Play a round of golf at Innisbrook. Just three miles east - you can play golf where the PGA Tour players play. Innisbrook's four championship golf courses are laid out on over 600 acres of natural lakes, woodlands and hilly terrain unusual for Florida. The famed Copperhead course is rated "One of America's Top 50 Resort Courses" by Golf Digest.

Step into Florida's "wildest place" at Brooker Creek Preserve. This 8,500 acre wilderness area is just a few miles east of Tarpon Springs. The site supports a great diversity of plants and animals and offers one the the best wilderness hiking experiences in Florida. Hundreds of feet of elevated boardwalks allow the hiker to stroll across Brooker Creek. Kids and adults will enjoy the 6,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall.

Just a short drive away...

Check out the sparkling sands of Clearwater Beach and "Winter the Dolphin"- the star of the new film "Dolphin Tale." She lives about 20 miles south at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. You can meet her and see her animal and fish friends at the museum which is located on Clearwater Beach.

  • Step into the courtyard... The beautifully renovated 1700 sq ft. 3BR 2.5 bath house has amazing artwork and vintage Florida decorations... yet it is very "kid-friendly." (Check under the kid's beds for loads of toys and games) It is designed to accommodate 6 people. The house is also wheelchair-accessible. The kitchen has everything - including a dishwasher, microwave and two coffee pots. (one for decaf folks) plus four bar-stools for those breakfasts at the counter. The kitchen flows into a great room with a working stone fireplace, bookcases full of great reading materials and a dining area that overlooks the pool. Our favorite place is the vintage wicker lounge chair in front of the fireplace. It's perfect for curling up and reading a good book. The house is fully air conditioned (and heated) with a washer and dryer, two large screen cable TVs with premium channels, free long-distance phone (even to Canada) and wireless internet. If you need to catch up on business - the green bedroom has an office area. There are also plenty of linens and beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas. The house sits on a huge double lot - surrounded by lush tropical plantings. Open the courtyard gates and enter the private backyard oasis. There are four separate seating areas: courtyard, pool side, gazebo and the dining area on the stone patio. The patio also has a large stone fireplace and a deluxe Weber grill with prep area. The beautifully tiled free-form pool is almost 6 feet deep - and it has steps and a shallow area for kids. The pool has an underwater light for evening swims - and is completely secluded. Your only visitors are the seagulls and ospreys that fly overhead.
