STORYBOOK-CHARMING BEACH COTTAGE ~TURN BACK TIME & RENEW YOUR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ~ Make new memories & savor the old time feel of Sanibel and Captiva Islands ~~

The best part of this experience is that you simply come as you are. Seriously -- You don't need to bring anything -- we've thought of it all. So it's worry-free packing --Bring you swimsuit, sandles, beachy clothes and your lunch ;)

Okay now that packing isn't important, it's time to picture yourself in a tropical & airy beach setting -~ A comfortable cottage with two lovely bedrooms, a bath with tub/shower, light & cozy furnishings in living and dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen. You'll have everything you need. Not a single care.

We have a screened porch with eating area for breakfast or coffee to start your day. Then off to the beach ...We provide the beach chairs, cooler, umbrella & toys. Choose a book from our library and off you go. You bring the sunscreen!

Seagrape Cottage has private access to a practically secluded beach... only 49 steps up the sandy path.

Rent a bike for a day or week ~ Pedal anywhere on the island.

We're about a block away from Lighthouse Point, the fishing pier, marina, Lighthouse Cafe & Old Town with its specialty shops, ice cream parlor & boutiques.

Sunday afternoons, bike to the farmer's market and fill your basket with fresh fruits and veggies. Buy some fresh breads & pastries and have a picnic at your practically private beach.

In the evenings, sip a glass of wine or tea and enjoy one of the many films at the cottage. There's time to read, play scrabble, start a jigsaw puzzle or whatever you do for relaxation after a day of sunshine and fun. And the stars in the Sanibel sky are awesome so don't forget to take a late walk under the moon.

Frommer's & Conde Naste Magazine specified Sanibel Island as Number One of the Top Ten Best Place to Visit in the World~

US New & World Report Top Ten Beaches in the US

Do you love the arts~(Big Art Center); Sanibel Library (lecture series and discussion groups); Nature (Ding Darling Conservatory) Aviaries; An array of restaurants and pubs; sports bar; outdoor eating and boating... Sanibel Island is the place for you. There is nothing like it in Florida

About the Owner

Welcome~ We hope you'll love Sanibel as much as we do. It's hard to describe the feeling people get visiting our home but it's kind of like going back in time. It's a slow pace where relaxation is the key word: time seems to go slower here. Everyone strolls, bikes, walks, and meanders through the days. People are kind, friendly and unhurried. And the Island can be a romantic get-away or a family vacation with something to do for everyone. Or just hang out on the beach and chill.....

Read our long list of our guests' comments and find out what kind of place our cottage is and who we are. I think you'll find that we work hard to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Most people return to Sanibel Island again and again and those lucky enough, stay with us in our lovely cottage.

Sanibel's beaches are dog-friendly. Owners will consider a small dog.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Anna told me she wanted to write something too; however, only one entry per guest booking is allowed. (She is Carter's partner from MN who said "Carry this Little Gem with Me" in the Guest Reviews.)

She told us that her favorite part of her visit to Sanibel was getting up early in the morning and running on the beach. She loved the fact that the beach was a few houses from the cottage so she could get there in only a few minutes.

During her run, she said she saw lots of dolphins and was amazed that they were so close to the shore. She hadn't seen dolphins in their own habitat before this time.

She'd then jump into the Gulf and swim for around 20 minutes (hoping to catch a ride on one of these lovely creatures;) then return to Seagrape Cottage, shower, eat breakfast on the screened porch and chill out for the rest of the morning.

Lunch was usually a 3 minute bike ride to Pinochio's famous Ice Cream Parlor a block away from the cottage. She said she "...justified the ice cream because the run equaled the calories so it was an even swap!" She and Carter already booked the cottage for this summer.

Thanks to Anna for her submission. As told to Karyn and Richard ;)

Seagrape Cottage became home away from home within minutes of arrival. The location is perfect --- short walk to the Gulf beach or the Bay. My dog, Sadie, was welcome and she enjoyed beach walks and bicycle rides. The cottage is located on the east end within walking distance of Lighthouse Cafe, few shops, and ice cream & deli. Most resturants are within biking distance, best way to get around. The Triller was a fun boat ride, which I recommend. The island is paradise - - - sun, sand, shells, birds, dolphins, good resturants, bicycling, and relaxation . The cottage was comfortable and clean with plenty of bath towels and beach towels. Family and friends joined me throughout the month and the cottage was still comfortable when there were four of us. Kitchen is well equipped. Washer and dryer was a blessing. Beach chairs, lawn chairs and picnic table were provided for enjoying the beach, shelling and relaxing outside. I would definitely come back next March if the cottage was available.

Owner's Response: The info you provided for future islanders was so helpful -- it is a daunting chore for someone surfing the vast number of rentals on a vacation site. Finding the right place is so important. Thank you for providing the next guests a great picture of our island. And Becky, I wish you had a picture of your little dog Sadie in her basket on the bicycle tooling around the island! Priceless!

A laid back paradise

  • 5 of 5
This little cottage was just what we were looking for. We liked it so much we plan to return next year! It is in the east end of the island on a quiet street and just a two minute walk from the beautiful beach. There is no public parking on the street so the beach was quiet around the Seagrape Lane area. We took in sunsets and sunrises at the beach almost every day with lots of shelling, swimming and long walks in between. Also, you are within minutes walk to the water on the Causeway side of the island where we liked to sit in the shade or fish during the hot afternoons. In addition, you are within walking distance of the fishing pier which is very popular for those who like this sport.
The cottage had everything we needed for a great beach vacation. There are lots of towels, extra bedding in case of cold nights, beach chairs and umbrellas. We did a lot of our own cooking and the kitchen was very well equipped. The beds are comfortable with new mattresses. There are plenty of books for people with various tastes which was great for two avid readers.
We had a dog travelling with us so the outdoor shower, the lanai and the big yard were very helpful. Dogs are welcome on all beaches on Sanibel as long as they are on a leash.
We brought our bikes which is a great way to get around the island. Next year I hope to bring my kayak as well as there are lots of places to paddle.
We are nature lovers and really enjoyed all the bird watching as well as spotting the dolphins. Although you will see plenty of birds on the beach, a visit to Sanibel is not complete for us without a trip to Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. Also, don't miss the farmer's market on Sunday mornings and a visit to the various public beaches on Sanibel and Captiva as each one has its own beauty and unique character.
Karyn and Richard were very attentive and checked in with us regularly to see if we needed anything or just to share information on events and activities taking place in the area. They are very personable and easy to deal with.
If you are looking for a laid back, cottage style vacation on a beautiful tropical island we would highly recommend Seagrape Cottage.

In the fall I spent 5 glorious weeks at Seagrape Cottage with my little dog, CeCe. It was exactly what I expected... a home away from home on the most wonderful island in the world!!!! The cottage has a perfect location! You have a short walk to the beach to view the sunrise in the morning and an almost private beach to enjoy the rest of the day. The shelling is spectacular! You are also about a 5 minute walk to the Lighthouse Cafe( their breakfasts are yummy) and other shops.
The cottage is extremely clean and well kept. Karyn and Richard have thought of everything! The kitchen is well equipped, roomy, and had everything you could want. It was fun to have cocktails in the back yard on the great picnic table! Karyn and Richard are a grand couple. They would check in to see if I needed anything (which I didn't) because everything had been cared for so well.
If you are looking for a place to really relax and enjoy Sanibel, this is the place!

Owner's Response: You are so kind to provide others such a wealth of information. This helps future potential guests see what an objective guest like you enjoyed most about our cottage. You took advantage of so much the island has to offer... and because you are such a beach- girl and shell-seeker, our Sanibel dog friendly beaches seemed like the perfect spot to seduce you & bring you back year after year. Watching colorful and a great variety of birds on the property and all over the island make for great memories too. But the dolphins, in the Gulf of Mexico at the end of our path on Seagrape Lane, seemed to hold your interest daily as you walked each morning--You are a joy and I can't wait to see you and CeCe again next year!

This Island has everything. You can get around on bike, kayak, scooter,or fun cars. The description is accurate. You will not need anything but your bathing suit and shorts. The cottage had plenty of extra towels which we really appreciated. The owners will go above to make sure your stay is pleasant. We had a delightful vacation. We needed a vet and a doctor while on vacation and found them readily available without leaving the island. We did eat out several times but made our own meals most of the time. The kitchen was fully equipped and efficient for our needs. We gave a birthday party and hosted a dinner for six people with no problem. I would recommend this vacation cottage to anyone. I am currently trying to get a return reservation.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Barbara: It never fails -- we keep on getting the same awesome people year after year. Why does the cottage attract THE nicest people on the island? We try to do everything to make your stay special, unique and as perfect as can be. It's our trademark and we'll always be there for you and anyone who enjoys their holiday at Seagrape Cottage. We appreciate your help in showing other potential Sanibel vacationers the way to our paradise!

This was our second year that we returned to Seagrape Cottage. Again it was a wonderful experience. The location is excellent, on a quiet street near the lighthouse. It is in walking distance to grab a good cup of coffee and pastry each morning. The ice cream shop and one of the very good restaurants on the island is also within walking distance. The beach is a short walk from your front door. The cottage has everything you need, just bring your swimsuit and flip flops.

This was the second time we've vacationed at Seagrape Cottage and we'll definitely be back. The location could not be better and we enjoy the privacy of a backyard, the quiet of a residential street and cozy cottage feel of the house itself. We have stayed in other places on Sanibel, but Seagrape just feels like home.

Owner's Response: It was so cool to have an author stay at our cottage. Being so close to the beach, perhaps the Gulf breeze provided you with inspiration. And maybe Seagrape Cottage was your muse... We know we will see you again and we will welcome you and your husband soon. Thank you for your lovely comments.

From the Owner

Sanibel Island is home to many artists and writers with an energy that is catchy. I think that's why we bought our home over 17 years ago. And nothing much has changed -- the island is still quaint, peaceful and beautiful. Not a fast food kind of place - cozy and unique restaurants and boutique dining. It's all very laid back but still special and memorable for the family. Make your memories here. It's a charming little island that feels like it's somewhere other-worldly. (Does that sound strange? Okay. You'll 'get it' when once you arrive and begin to stroll rather than hustle.) We bought our duplex as a place for the family to be together and now it's that plus the perfect place for our guests to learn about island living, get relaxed, unwind, and enjoy the island and SW Florida for a unique holiday stay at the beach.

From the Owner

Since we have practically private beach access, you won't find many other people on your end of this secluded beach. Only 2 streets on East End that have direct walking access to beach. We are one.We are on the bike path route as well; simply rent bikes from one of the island vendors and use them as your method of transportation during your stay. That's the way most people do it ~ It's a blast from the past. Everyone enjoys the fabulous restaurants on the Island, but it's great to have some home cooking too. Go fishing during the day~ then cook some grouper in the evening. It's relaxing to stay at home and cuddle up with a book or watch a film -- we have a large selection of both. Or perhaps you want to start a jigsaw puzzle or play scrabble or chess. And once you realize that Sanibel is a seashell paradise, you will soon do the 'Sanibel Shuffle' as you find unique seashells on the beaches of the serene Gulf of Mexico. (Sanibel beaches are dog-friendly) Home to artists, writers, professionals and celebrities.
