Loft with 2 full beds, 2 queen bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large couch with a pullout bed and outside deck positioned perfectly to take in the BREATHTAKING VIEW and GORGEOUS SUNSETS. New roof and siding and clam shell driveway, located at the end of a private, quiet road. The spectacular, quiet beauty of nature gently caresses the back of our home. When you are ready to explore the town or pop over to the tiny airport to watch the visiting planes, it's the perfect bike ride or to take a leisurely walk. The best way to start the day - sit on our deck in comfy, new chairs with a cup of coffee in hand, with the breeze gently blowing. Be a part of the peaceful atmoshphere - you will WANT to turn off the cell phone and just be in the moment. Walk down to the nearby nature walk for a quick swim and enjoy a bird watching paradise!

A very peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I live in the Midwest and wanted to find a warmer winter this year. I was in Cedar Key on business several years ago and wanted to return some day. We found this home on the internet, it's located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The home overlooks a salt marsh with abundant birds, crabs and more. If you are looking for sunshine this home will give it to you. The deck faces northwest, so evening sun and beautiful sunsets can be seen every clear day.

This home has two full bedrooms with attached baths. There is also a loft that will serve as a third bedroom if you don't mind climbing a ladder. It has an open concept living room kitchen comb that's surrounded by windows and sliding glass doors that open wide for the outdoor feeling. We found the home very clean, the beds were comfortable and the owners provide all dishes, linens, everything you'll need to feel at home. We stayed the entire month of February and kept busy with biking, walking, birding and eating. (I came very close to overdosing on clams....yummm!)

The owners Art and April don't live in Cedar Key, but if you have any issues they have a handyman on-call. Help is only a phone call away.

Escaped the Snow in Cedar Key

  • 4 of 5
This was our first visit to the Cedar Key area of Florida. We really enjoyed the view from the house and deck overlooking the marsh area. The birds were beautiful to watch and fun to photograph. Both sunrise and sunset are visible from the balcony. The house is accurately described in the listing and the pictures are a good representation of the interior. House is in a very quiet, convenient area. Close enough to the village for sightseeing. Lots of very good restaurants on the island, one of our favorites was Pats. We would recommend this private home rental.

We stayed in this lovely getaway and had a great time. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. It is located close to town, which has great shops and restaurants. I look forward to staying here again.

Marvelous Seclusion

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 6 days in this earthy, 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2-story house, nestled in Cedar Key's quiet neighborhood off the beaten path. There are unobstructed, panoramic views of wetlands where the family can sit on the expansive wooden deck and watch the sun sink into the bay. The kids will love the occasional visit by a friendly flamingo or brown pelican feasting on fish in the marshes. Very private setting. The house is great for kids or a romantic getaway for adults, chock full of amenities, including a new large kitchen, gas barbecue grill, wood floors and clean bathrooms. Cedar Key is the clam capital of the United States, and several great seafood restaurants abound. The house is within a short bike ride to Tony's Famous Clam Chowder or Island Pizzeria, where pizza, burgers and steaks are the fare of choice for landlubbers. Tony's has perhaps the best clam chowder in this seafood connoisseur's view, rivaling the famous Black Pearl in Newport, Rhode Island. The house is also situated in close proximity to the municipal marina for boating or kayaking. We rented bikes and fishing poles and had easy access to all the best "secret" fishing spots the area has to offer. The quaint, historic town is eerily reminiscent of Hemingway's Key West, but without the crowds and tourist traps. Although the myriad of restaurants were great, we also enjoyed cooking in the large kitchen and relaxing at night with a movie on the large screen television, snuggling on the wrap around couch. The locals are very accommodating and the house owners were always available to answer questions and make recommendations for outdoor activities. If you are looking for wild, noisy and eclectic nightlife, Cedar Key is not the vacation for you. However, Cedar Key beckons those longing to unwind, relax and explore the pristine estuaries and its chain of small islands, easily accessible by boat. This property offers a reasonably priced, alluring vacation destination that will certainly not disappoint.

A great place to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5
Really enjoyed my stay! House was comfortable and conveniently located to the town, but far enough to feel like you are really getting away from it all! Quiet cul de sac location, so no thru traffic! Loved watching the wild life (so many birds!) from the deck. Very relaxing! Would love to go back!

Location

Activity and Interests

It's like time stood still in Cedar key! The island has a small, quaint 'downtown' that feels relaxed and friendly. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast (or spicy shrimp tacos and fried green tomatoes for lunch) at Ken's Keyside Diner, the best keylime pie and reasonably priced brew (and a good children's menu) at Pickled Pelican, a cigar bar on Dock Street, the best chowder in the the world at Tonys, or live music with steamed clams and a juicy burger at the outdoor Big Deck. The most adorable store to visit is The Dilly Dally with mermaid trinkets, t-shirts and darling sundresses. Then cool off with ice cream and souvenier shopping at the shop next door. The local art stores provide wonderful pieces to view or purchase. The local hardware store has a helpful staff and a good selection of items. Stroll toward the town beach to cool off or rent a kayak, golf cart (a lot of fun!) or a ride on a horsedrawn carriage. Hop on a boat tour (it's so neat to learn about the history of the area) or rent a boat for your own adventure. See dolphins frolicking in the water, birds everywhere and explore the little nearby islands. It is a photographer's delight - it is just gorgeous! Visit Kona Joe's for a cup of hot coffee or refreshing fruit smoothie and next door is a shop that makes lovely, local canvas bags for purchase. There are churches for worship, 2 little markets, take out pizza joints, and 5 mins up Rte 24 is a neat watering hole w/ an awesome sunset called The Tikki Bar. The local police is visible and friendly. The pier in town is terrific to relax on or fish off. Folks travel near and far to fish in Cedar Key!
