Highly recommend staying here. Safe neighborhood and close to the subway. The apartment was lovely. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and plenty of space for sitting around. We'll definitely return to this charming brownstone. Jackie was a wonderful host!

Fantastic brownstone, tastefully appointed

  • 4 of 5
Very well appointed brownstone apartments with convenient access to the subway. Great river view from the sidewalk. Don't pay the higher premiums for staying near mid-town! You're there in 15 minutes with the 1, which runs every 7 minutes or so. Couch (shown in the photo) was torn on the seat, but covered with a throw (we weren't in NYC to sit on a couch and watch TV anyway). The electrical outlets in the kitchen that are on the same wall as the dishwasher and toaster did not work; could have been a fuse issue located in another part of the building, but we just rerouted how we plugged everything in (minus the dishwasher; didn't know it didn't work until we were leaving the last day and attempted to start it so that the dishes were done). Owner provides a wonderful welcome package for the kitchen (bacon, eggs, juice, filtered water, cereal, milk, fruit, etc., etc.), which was SUCH a treat considering our flights were delayed and we weren't able to get to the nearby grocery before morning. Spa like bath towels. Water temp in bathroom is a little tricky and the tub faucet handle came off/wasn't attached securely; we weren't able to get a solid warm/hot water flow out of the bathtub, but just transitioned to taking a shower (no big deal). Would still definitely recommend this place for anyone. So much more comfortable and spacious than staying in a hotel room. Owner also provides a hair dryer and full laundry onsite, enabling anyone to pack lighter than they normally would (and who doesn't love that?). Get yourself accustomed to the subway routes and you'll be good to go!

Owner's Response: Thanks for recommending my apartments. So happy to see that you enjoyed the welcome breakfast treats, the washer/dryer, the lovely view of the river, the easy access to midtown and the close proximity to the #1 subway line. Many many thanks for mentioning how comfortable and spacious the apartments were and that they are much better than a hotel room. I am a little disappointed that you did not contact me with any of the problems you had, a simple flip of the circuit breaker in the laundry closet would have had all the outlets working as well as the dishwasher. I would also have increased the water temperature during one of the coldest weeks this winter, but you did not complain, so I figured you were ok. I saw that the couch had been broken by the previous guests and ordered a new one but it will not be delivered until the end of March. Thanks for staying and see you again soon.

LOVED this place

  • 5 of 5
My group and I absolutely LOVED THIS PLACE. It was centrally located from the sightseeing to night life. This place was actually more than what we expected. The description was accurate and very well maintained. We were able to meet the Ms. Jackie as well as the house-keeper who was very hospitable. She also suggested a great restaurant. We loved it.

We have already began to plan our trip back. Most definitely pleased..

Owner's Response: My housekeeper, Stephanie, is the most valuable member of the team. She keeps the apartments shining clean and she is a wealth of graciousness and information when dealing with guests. I am so happy you got a chance to meet her.

Fabulous Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5
I stayed here while attending a course at Teachers College. It was so great to come 'home' every night to this wonderful place. The apt. is so comfortable, clean and Jackie is a fabulous host. The fridge was stocked with breakfast foods (including beautiful fresh strawberries) when I arrived and the kitchen made it easy to make dinner and pack my lunch each day. The apt. is close to the subway, a nice grocery store and a beautiful park. I have stayed many places in NYC and this is the best! Jackie is so helpful. One night she even offered to drive me to a Staples so I could copy an article I needed the next day. I can not say enough positives about this property. I have stayed many places in NYC and this is the best by far!

Everything and More!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the Garden Terrace Inn. It was clean, comfortable, quiet, and close to the subway so it was easy to get to all of the attractions. Jackie was a great host, we could contact her if we required anything. She also stocked the kitchen with breakfast foods which was great for our busy mornings. Located very close to grocery stores, drug stores and restaurants. Everything we needed was there for us and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks again Jackie!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your great review, I thought of changing my description to let future renters know what a great location this is, but you said it all. Please come again, I miss you guys already!!!

From the Owner

I fell in love with New York brownstones when I worked as a personal chef for a wealthy family on 77th Street off Park Avenue. I could not afford that location but finally saved and purchased my very own brownstone in the Columbia University area in Upper Manhattan. I spent oodles of money gut renovating all 5 floors (think Property Brothers). This was a labor of love and when I look at the apartments now compared to what they were, I feel a deep sense of accomplishment. It is a joy to share them with my guests and read the wonderful reviews when they leave.
