House, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Beautiful fully furnished and equipped vacation home with great views on the Sunset side of Seneca Lake.

Conveniently close to everything that you want to explore or visit in the Finger Lakes. The roomy 1600 square foot interior of this old farmhouse has new modern paint, updated vanities, new BeautyRest mattresses and gorgeous refinished hardwood floors throughout. You'll enjoy taking in the stunning lake views from the large enclosed front porch, the living area, front bedroom or from one of the seating areas outside in the large acre yard. Pictures don't do justice for the wonderful views, beautiful rooms or ample size of the house. Great mix of old and new decor as well as furnishings.

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5
We were all very happy with the house! The view is absolutely gorgeous and the inside is nicely furnished. The living room comfortably sat all six of us and the kitchen table was great for playing board games. The kitchen had a lot of necessities incuding fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. The rentor was extremely accommodating and allowed us to control the heat so that everyone was comfortable. She mentioned there would be enough towels and wash cloths but we seemed to be short a few wash cloths so you might want to take your own if you have a large group of people. The only other tip was we visited the house in april so they hadn't had a chance to do any winter maintenence so the driveway was a little rough for sportscars. Hoping they plan to fix the driveway because this place is a great house for a great price and great view. It is only minutes from downtown watkins glen!

Great Place, cannot wait to return in 2015

  • 5 of 5
Truly a gem of a find. We have been attending the NASCAR race for several years and resort to staying in motels in the area, which don't have the comforts of a home. Having found this house, it is wonderful and perfect for us. All accommodations were excellent and we tried to treat it as we would want someone to treat our place. There was nothing we lacked in the way of amenities, comfort, location or view. Only one minor problem which happened on "our watch" and we took care of correcting it which the owners appreciated. Enjoyed the stay and are looking forward to returning in 2015. Thanks for having us.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the nice review and taking time to submit it. Not everyone is able to find the time to submit a review, so it is very much appreciated. We have had many return guests, so even if they don't do a review, we know people are enjoying the home and we are doing something right. It is very fulfilling to know our guests are happy and all our hard work is being appreciated!

Quiet comfort with beautiful view

  • 5 of 5
We rented this house for the "Deck the Halls" wine tour weekend. We had 6 adults in our group, and found this home to be perfect for our group. The view of the lake is wonderful, and the house is centrally located for the wine tour. The kitchen is just the right size for multiple adults to be in at the same time while preparing meals, and the 3 beds were very comfortable. Customer service with great, with a list of good restaurants in the area. The house is close to Watkins Glen - for those runs to the store! I would highly recommend this property.

A Great Read

  • 5 of 5
You've heard the saying 'You Can't Judge a Book by It's Cover?" The House on the Hill was that wonderful surprise selection once you opened the book, from beginning to end. A very functional wrap around, enclosed porch that was perfect for watching the sunset on the lake while playing board games. The inside was nicely remodeled and furnished to retain the home's maturity while still keeping the look freshly modern and cozy. Hardwood floors and open living space with plenty of room for our growing family (including 5 adults and a young granddaughter), yet comfortable enough to provide that 'family gathering' feel we wanted. Very clean and well maintained inside which is always important during any rental, for us. Three nice sized bedrooms with very comfy beds. A well appointed kitchen for those crazy enough to want to cook on vacation. And, as the friendly owner said, if you can't find something you need in the house, you just haven't looked far enough into the plentiful cupboards;
The House on the Hill sits just a mile or two from downtown Watkins Glen and the beautiful, natural gorge (State Park) that should not be missed while visiting this quant town. A short drive in the other direction leads you to plenty of wineries w/ live music and restaurants. A perfectly located 'home-base' for day tripping the lake and all it has to offer. We had great weather...but, this home would also be a good place to spend a rainy day. We hope to revisit The Home on the Hill again and surely would recommend this comfortable, immaculately clean home to our friends.

Owner's Response: What a wonderful's so rewarding to help contribute to our guests enjoyment during their time away from home.

It has turned out to be a great location for family and/or friends to reunite to spend quality time together; visiting the raceway, wineries, great restaurants, go antiquing, enjoy the beach, the gorge, trailwalks or just take in the views from "home" getting caught up on life.

We've applied our own significant travel experiences to our getaway home and it seems to have given us what we needed to offer a true home away from home. If we can keep it going and grow our guestlist, maybe we can also improve the "cover" of this 114 year old "book" someday;)

Prefect Hideaway with a View

  • 5 of 5
We rented this lovely place for our wedding weekend. It was beyond our expectations and we absolutely loved it. I think the first day we were there we said "This place is great" at least dozen times.

Being Floridians, we were worried about being chilly, but the home kept its warmth very well and we were nice and cozy the whole time.

Its only a minute from downtown Watkins Glen and the view is fantastic. The two deer that visited us the second day was icing on the cake (oh, right and getting married).

And the owners are genuinely nice, caring people and were very accommodating. We hope to come back again next year.

Cornell Graduation Week Stay!

  • 5 of 5
We needed a place to stay for my daughter's Cornell graduation and found this
rental absolutely awesome and affordable! Other VRBOs in the area charged
triple the going rate due to graduation, not this one. The commute to
Cornell/Ithaca is a 30 minute scenic drive that we thoroughly enjoyed for
several days in a row. I don't know when the house was built but it maintains
its 100 year (?) history combined with wonderful renovations and upgrades
(up-to-date bathrooms, dishwasher, washer & dryer.) The view of Seneca lake
(and sunset) from the dining room, living room, upstairs bedroom and huge
wrap-around porch is awesome. The rental is super well stocked and clean. The beds are comfy. There are plenty of warm comforters and lots of towels.

Watkins Glen, 2 miles away, has a Wal-Mart for grocery shopping, a health food
store "Good Groceries", excellent restaurants and the Gorge hike at Watkins
Glen State Park - complete with 19 waterfalls that you should not miss! We want to come back.

Owner's Response: Just in case, we made sure the A/C's were installed, but heat still available and comforters stored nearby. It's an unpredictable time of year, but we always try to look at each visit as if it was our own to be sure and address everything to help with a happy, comfortable stay. We are so pleased we've been able to continue to do that for our guests. House was built in 1900:)

From the Owner

Nice private house and setting with no one to bother you during your stay. Can't beat the views as mentioned, but also with plenty of outdoor furniture to put where you want on the property and a charcoal grill on wheels, you can enjoy the views as well as the nice yard. The bedrooms are all on the 2nd floor, but there is only 3 steps down to get into the house.
