House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Relaxation Destination: Lake Escape is a comfortable homey cottage on the Cayuga shore. Situated directly across from Cobblestone Winery and Orchards, the wine trail location makes this an excellent choice for visitors to the wine trail. The living areas and deck feature splendid views of Cayuga Lake, fish from the dock or bring your boat along to explore the many great fishing spots on the lake. The deck offers a great space to laze and take in the views. The cottage features an open floor plan with spacious dining and living areas, two bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom on the first floor, as well as a full bath on the first floor. The roomy kitchen offers plenty of space for everyone to help with meals, or take an evening off to enjoy one of the many fine area restaurants and winery bistros. There is a walk-out basement with a washer and dryer.

Not a relaxing vacation!! My husband and I rented this place. My brother drove from Maine to join us. Upon arrival, we found trash, debris on deck, filthy windows and a horrible musty odor. We burned 3 candles around the clock!! The SULPHUR smell from the water it gagged us! We let it run for hours and still the smell did not abate. We were given a "handyman's" number. We called but never received a call back (for 5 days)!! There was no lake access. We purchased tools and cleaning supplies. My guys had to clear 3 foot high weeds before we had any lake access at all. We could not use the dock - it was in terrible condition. We vacuumed spiders and webs inside and out!! We had to clean the outside windows. I contacted the owner with all of our concerns and the work we put into the property. Her response was "I'll let housekeeper know". We expected and asked for compensation, but received nothing.

Owner's Response: The water source for the house is well water. It does have a sulfur odor to it. All renters are advised to bring bottled water. Unforunately, there is nothing that can be done about the water source for the house at this moment and it is safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc. However, the city is in the process of running a water line to this quaint area of wine country. At that time, we will definitely convert to city water, which should alleviate this situation.

This property is lake front and spiders tend to be around lakes. Therefore outside around the lake are some spiders. That's how it is in the country.

This is a beautiful house and I encourage renters to call me with any issues they encounter. I assure that they are resolved immediately.

Disappointing Stay

  • 2 of 5
I sent an email to the owner,no response:I wanted to get in touch with you regarding our trip to the Lake Escape last weekend. We had a really great time, the house has a fantastic location, however,my girlfriends and I were very disappointed at the standards in the home as well as not being able to use the lawn to enjoy sitting by the lake because it is a complete mud pit.I have attached several pictures as well as a video for you to review. There was trash out in front of the house on Friday that remained throughout the weekend. Shortly after arriving,we went outside to check out the yard, deck&dock and were very disappointed to find the back yard was completely torn up and there was no access to the dock.A repair man showed up and began working on the dock(probably should have known to expect a man working on the property)he did attach the dock to the new wall but the it was so muddy we didn't attempt to go sit down there. We understand that living near the water can cause dirty windows and bring extra bugs, however, the windows are extremely filthy, and full of spider webs and dead bugs. The stairs are sunken in the middle, detaching from the wall, and the bannister is very loose, making the already steep stairs even more dangerous. The upstairs beds were very comfortable;unfortunately the downstairs beds leave a lot to be desired not even be suitable for children to use.You did tell me to bring water as the source at the house is well water but didn't tell me is the water is sulfur water, with a terrible smell when you attempt to wash up or do dishes. The shower had absolutely no water pressure and the hot water runs out within minutes of attempting a shower, making it very difficult for 4 girls over a 3 day time period to wash up.The cost of the stay includes cleaning fees,I am not sure who you are hiring to clean but the carpets are stained, the stove top was dirty, the windows are filthy, there are cobwebs in the shutters of the downstairs bedroom and the house smells musty. This is an annual trip my girlfriends and I take, the cottage where we have stayed the last several years is no longer being rented and we were looking for a new "home" for our future trips.I can assure you the Lake Escape will not be our future escape.I understand you do not live locally, I wanted to let you know there are issues with this property and give you a chance to address these concerns and offer some sort of compensation for our disappointing experience before sending an official review.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the feedback. I have since contacted the cleaning company and will ensure a cleaner state of the house. The retaining wall project has been completed and there is now a beautiful and safe yard for future renters. Of course, you can always enjoy the deck to view the breath taking lake views. Lastly, the water source is well water and bringing bottled water is highly recommended. The house is in the process of being converted to city water - but the completion timing is dependent on the city.

Kind Regards.
