Our visit started off badly because we arrived early, as I had requested, and the owners were still in the condo. They were told we weren't arriving until 4:00pm the afternoon of 4/4 when in fact we arrived around 2:30am. After having to find a hotel to stay in for about 5 or 6 hours - which wasn't easy due to Marine graduation; we contacted the owners the next day and were able to unpack and actually start our vacation. We loved all the beach themed decorations of the condo and the location to the pool was great. The owners had installed a new stove and it was good but the front burner didn't seem to work right. Then we had an issue with roaches; three mornings when we woke up and went into the kitchen we found visitors that we promptly killed. After that we started leaving the light on at night when we went to bed and didn't see anymore.
We had never been to this part of SC so we weren't sure what to expect and while we liked Harbor Island and how it was set up we did not like the beach/ocean at all. It reminded us of going to the lake in that it was brownish in color, no real waves and lots of gnats and mosquitoes.
We did LOVE Hunting Island, went on a bike ride there two different days. Tried going to Fripp Island but got as far as the front gate to find out we couldn't get on the Island. St. Helena Island had some really nice shops as did Beaufort. We drove to Savannah one day and would have loved to stay there longer than the five hours we were there.
The weather was great for our whole trip too so that helped.
All in all, the trip was good but we doubt we will be back to the area unless it is to go to Savannah.

Owner's Response: As property manager for "Seas" The Day villa, I would like to thank Amy again for renting. My correspondence with her prior to her arrival was very nice, and she herself was appreciative of my promptness in answering questions and in sending her informational emails to aid in her enjoyment while there.

While she did request to arrive early on Saturday, April 4th., I told her to check back with me before she arrived to be on the safe side if, in fact, someone may be departing on the day of her arrival. Normal check-in is at 4:00 P.M.; therefore, she would have normally checked in at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 4th.. I had informed her that the owners would be there for a couple of days, and would be departing the day of her arrival. Even then, I informed her she may be able to check in early, say around 2:00 P.M. if the owners had already departed. Nobody minds allowing early check in as long as a unit is vacant and has been cleaned. Knowing all this, you can imagine the surprise of the owners when Amy shows up at 2:30 A.M (instead of say 2:00 P.M.) on Saturday, April 4th.. As mentioned, early check in is fine; however, I've never had anyone attempt to check in over 13 hours before the normal check in time. While the owners were not upset, you can imagine being woken up at approximately 2:30 A.M.. The owners were helpful though letting Amy know of places that she could try down the road for lodging.

Once able to check in during a normal time later in the day, Amy mentioned that they saw roaches in the kitchen more than one night while there. Knowing that the villa is serviced for pest, my guess is that a few "interested" roaches may have decided to enter the villa when the front door was opened and stayed open while the owners talked to her about being way too early and recommending places to stay until later in the day. Bugs will always be around outside and are naturally attracted to a light coming from an open door. Even more so when that door is left open from the outside for a good while.

Amy correctly pointed out the stove being new and that she felt she had a problem with one of the burners. That could have been the case as well as she may not have been operating it correctly.

Overall, the general content of her writing leads one to believe she was not so much disappointed in the villa as much as she was in the beach area and being frustrated in not being able to check in at 2:30 A.M. instead of the normal afternoon.

Beachfront Relaxation

My husband and myself had a wonderful time there. The beach really is just a short walk on the boardwalk. Step off the beautiful deck and follow the board walk. We went every morning and evening. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves. The beach was clean and no stones or rocks. The pool was literally a stones throw away again very few people but some families were in the pool. The condo was clean and everything worked. The dishes, glassware and silverware were nice no all plastic stuff. Well stocked also.
It was an easy drive to Beaufort, and a beautiful State Park is very close, I think it is Hunting Island and they have a pass for you at the condo. We ate a few times at Johnson Creek Tavern, very nice and close. All in all we would rent "Seas The Day" again. If we had to pick one thing we didn't like, we heard some of the walking back and forth upstairs. We live in the country so I think we noticed it more than most people. No one was noisy and no partying heard. Even during the day it was very peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the deck. Everyone who walked by or that we drove by was very friendly too. We LOVED it and enjoyed the surrounding area. As I said would go back again.

Latitude Adjustment

This condo is perfect for families or couples. The 900 sqft is spacious for 1 bedroom and the decks made it seem even bigger. It was just the two of us, but you could easily fit 4 (or maybe 5) people comfortably in this condo. The fold out couch is comfortable, as well as the queen bed. The pictures don’t do justice to the view off the decks. You can see the ocean, pool, an island, and several boardwalks. The condo is newly renovated. I love the bright colors, it is very beachy. The décor is well thought out. Coral seems to be the theme. The TV’s are large, with a great picture, better than what I have at home. There is about 30 DVD/Blue Ray movies to choose from, along with 7 or 8 different board games. The best part is the convenience of walking off the deck essentially onto the boardwalk.
I love the views of the beach, marsh, sunsets, sunrise, boardwalks, shrimp boats, the elusive alligator, the dolphins surfacing just off the shoreline, sea turtles, sea shells, the lighthouse, Johnson Creek Tavern, The Shrimp Shack, fresh fish off the boat from the Gay Seafood Company, the souvenir store Barefoot Bubbas, and my favorite—the bird sanctuary.
Harbor Island goes to great links to keep everything nature centric, just like God intended the island to look. If you are visiting in the winter, you’ll likely have the whole beach to yourself. In the summer months, you’ll find a few more folks, but the beach is never crowded.
It’s a private island, so you’ll have a great sense of safety and security.
To sum it up, the views are breathtaking, the air is salty, there's never a crowd--the whole place has a relaxing vibe

While the setting on Harbor Island provides a relaxing atmosphere, the active minded can readily take advantage of the Island's Beach & Raquet Club. It offers tennis courts, large swimming pool (there is an additional smaller one right beside the Villa as well), wading pool for infants, playground, sand volleyball court, food/gift shop area and exercise facility! Of course, you have complete access to the beach on Harbor Island! All of this is just a few steps away from your Villa!

You may want to try your hand at crabbing from the nice designated dock on the Island. Leave your trap tied off and go out on the beach and surf cast for the BIG CATCH! Also, there is much enjoyment in just walking on the beach collecting shells or looking out at shrimp boats with "nets extended" and seeing dolphins playing in the water off in the distance!

When you are ready to venture off the Island, there are convenient locations nearby for putting-in your personal boat off the Island (boat not included in rental) or hearing the spin of your reel as you drop a fishing line with your favorite lure attached! There is even a location off-Island nearby for pier fishing!

Do you feel like visiting the only lighthouse in South Carolina where you can actually walk to the top looking out for miles around in all directions? Well, you are in luck as 5,000 acre Hunting Island State Park is located right down the road from Harbor Island!

Nearby "Ladys Island" has two major grocery stores supplying everything you will need for "roughing it" back at the Villa!

The downtown area of Beaufort, South Carolina awaits you with an abundance of history, art, culture and natural beauty. It is the second oldest city in South Carolina with more homes on the National Historic Register than any other town its size! Carriage and walking tours are available providing background history of the "Spannish mossed" neighborhoods where homes date back to the 1700s! This beautiful downtown area also provides you with a shopping district where antique, boutique and art gallery shops abound along with casual eateries and fine restaurants!

For those looking to add a perfect day trip to their schedule, the historic cities of Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia are short drives from downtown Beaufort!
