House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

This is the classic California cottage with wood floors throughout and plenty of windows to let the sun shine in. For me it's the perfect location, with Sunset park as your front yard and the ocean beyond. Sit on the front porch and enjoy your coffee in the morning, or end the day there with a cocktail as the sun goes down.

The property is in Dana Point located half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, making one day trips to both Los Angeles (Universal Studios Hollywood, DisneyLand etc.) and San Diego (Sea World, San Diego Zoo, etc.) possible.

There's a Trader Joe's right down the street along with restaurants and movie theaters. And San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach are just minutes away if you want to go exploring other beaches and towns.

But you may just want to hang around the cottage and take advantage of the recently renovated kitchen and backyard with top of the line teak furniture. We've built a new large patio off the TV room where you can enjoy barbecues and entertain if the mood strikes you, or just sink into a chair, put your feet up and get lost in a book.

You may be tempted to never leave the property, but remember, you're within a mile or two of some of the greatest beaches in California and the Dana Point Harbor. You'll find plenty of things to do no matter what your taste or mood with golf, tennis, surfing, fishing or my favorite - sitting on the beach reading, all with in your grasp.

Great happy-hours, barbecues, sunsets and relaxing days on the beach are endless. It's the classic Southern California living experience, life is good here.

Classic California cottage: 2 Bedrooms + TV room with sofa that turns into a bed to sleep two people. Two baths, one in the house and the other off the patio. (Sleeps 6)

This quiet Dana Point vacation rental is a classic California cottage that is only minutes from all the best beaches, shopping and recreation southern California has to offer...

Perfect, beautiful cottage for an exceptional OC vacation

  • 5 of 5
We spent one week at the cottage in Dana Point and were sad to leave. The owner bent over backwards to make us feel welcome after our long international flight, and we loved the book of ideas and shops to make us feel like locals.

The design details of the house are extremely well thought out with an exquisite eye and taste, from the door knobs to the beautiful dining table that I covet. While it was perfect and inspired some changes to our own home, it was comfortable and inviting for our two very young children. The kids, 3 and 5, found they were more than catered for as well, with kids plates and table setting, but they were most impressed with the outdoors: a fabulously appointed patio, garden with a great gas grill and an enormous, fun playground just in front of the house. They had so much freedom to move about in a safe and exciting environment.

The windows are enormous and the entire house feels airy and light. We had a BBQ with friends and found everything we needed and more already equipped in the kitchen. As our sunday lunch turned into dinner, the kids were all able to take advantage of the wonderful DVD collection and big screen TV in a room separate from all of the grown ups.

It was perfectly located for all of the beaches, Disney and San Diego, although the weather was so lovely we never did make it to the Zoo. We will have to come back and I plan to stay here again when we do!

Great little house in a great little neighborhood

This cottage is everything it's advertised to be. The rooms are all spacious and nicely decorated. The back patio is extremely well furnished for family gettogethers, complete with a really nice grill. The dining table has a great distant view of the sunset reflecting on the ocean, and the sun pours in in the morning. We loved the proximity to San Clemente, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, San Juan Capistrano, and Huntington Beach, all fun spots to tour while you're here. We could hear the freeway from the front porch, but it's really not a problem; it's a really nice place to perch in the sunshine, and look over the park. The owner made sure we had his contact info. in case we needed anything, which we did not. He had great instructions for the TV/DVD... great satellite and tons of DVDs.. in a nice family room atmosphere apart from living room. Great VRBO in So Cal if you want to feel like you're in a comfortable home, not a condo. Definite recommend!

Perfect Spot in the middle of SoCal

Modern. Beautiful. Clean. What more can I say? Booking was easy. Owner is friendly and helpful. Photos are 100% accurate of the current state. Truth be told, we wanted to copy the design of the place on to our place back home.

This is not a Beach rental, though. This is the perfect kind of blend of everything in a residential neighbourhood off the freeway. It felt like being at home somewhere else. We were able to go up and down the OC beaches, head to San Diego, head up to L.A, and at the end of the day, play games in the house.

Amenities were fantastic. Like the previous review, an iron and toaster would have been welcome, however the availability of clean sheets and towels, stocked necessities, modern appliances, beautiful furniture and decor, modern technology and entertainment more than made up for it. Dishes and glasses were plentiful, too.

The owner was friendly, quick to respond and very helpful. The house even has a "book". The ins, outs, and friendly recommendations of the whats and wheres of the OC. It was like a personal, print-based YELP.

We were 4 people (a couple with 2 kids - aged 10 and 13) and we loved it.Great stay. Great vacation. Hope to get back here again sometime soon.

Wonderful vacation!

We really enjoyed our stay. The home was very clean, nicely furnished, and in a great location. You are halfway between L.A. And San Diego. The freeway is five minutes away.
Our family spent one day at Magic Mountain and another day in San Diego. Several days were spent at the beautiful beaches and beach towns close by.
There is a Costco within ten minutes to gas up and buy groceries for the week. We don't eat out a lot, so we really enjoyed using the backyard grill and kitchen.
The movie collection was epic! I've never seen such a complete list of movies and series available to watch. I was able to watch a complete season of "downton abbey" in a few days. So many movies, not enough time!
We would definitely stay here again. The only things I would recommend that would make the stay even better is an iron and ironing board and a toaster. There might have been one, but we couldn't find them. Other than that, the home and kitchen was very well stocked with what you need.

Memorial Weekend Retreat in Capo Beach

  • 5 of 5
Booking was effortless! I contacted the owner, Eric to check availability for the Memorial Day weekend and to ask questions about the house, the neighborhood, the parking situation, etc. A day later, my booking was accepted and confirmed.

The day before our arrival, Eric reached out to check on what time we’d be getting to the house. I had told him we'd be there around noon but due to horrible holiday traffic on the 5 fwy, we were running a couple hours late but he was very accommodating. When we finally got there and met him, he was friendly, welcoming and had a bottle of wine for us cooling in the refrigerator – nice touch, especially after a long drive!

Eric gave us a tour of the house and backyard. We had loved what we’d seen in the photos in the listing but it was even better in person, especially with all the natural light from the big front windows. We were somewhat surprised at how tastefully and beautifully it was furnished, both inside as well as outside on the patio – more appropriate for someone’s actual home than a vacation rental but Eric explained that his mother-in-law had been living there until just recently.

The house has 2 bathrooms and at first I thought it was strange that the 2nd bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) could only be accessed from the patio in the backyard or else thru the garage but it was actually pretty convenient since we spent most of the time outside in the backyard. I guess it makes sense too for surfers or anyone coming from the beach/ocean? That way they don’t have to trek thru the house?

The house is located right across from a park and even though we didn't actually go there, we sat on the front porch every morning sipping our coffee and admiring the view. We liked that the neighborhood wasn't cookie cutter track homes - felt eclectic. It was pretty quiet and conveniently close to a shopping/entertainment area where we bought groceries, coffee, take-out and even saw the new Star Trek movie (which is great by the way) one of the nights. We also discovered a great local sushi place there, Miyako, which we highly recommend in San Clemente (the house is in Capistrano Beach but they're right by each other.)

Aside from the horrifically painful holiday traffic getting there, it was a really great getaway. Will definitely plan to visit and stay again.
