Overview

Property Details

Updated: Nov 17, 2014
House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

If you are looking for a get away in the middle of the woods with all the amenities of a brand new house, then this is the place for you. Add in a great view and hiking outside your front door, The Hideaway makes for a great stay for anybody looking to get away from the city for awhile and relax. With aerial views of the Blue Ridge Mountains up to 50 miles, you can view multiple mountain ranges from the back deck including Mount Mitchell to the north and Grandfather Mountain to the northeast. Also, only 30-45 minutes from Asheville, Black Mountain, and Hendersonville, shopping, dining, and nightlife are not far away. The town of Chimney Rock, with its fine hiking at Chimney Rock State Park, and Lake Lure, with its scenic lake recreation, are located 15-20 minutes away. For reference, The Hideaway is an approximate 30 minute drive from I-40 (via Hwy 9) and I-26 (via Hwy 64).

Situated at ~ 3,200 feet above sea level, The Hideaway is a cabin/modern home that is best suited to couples and small families but can hold up to 8 adults. Making the most out of 1,050 sq ft, the cabin is brand new and has 3 bedrooms (two gueens and 1 full) and a sofa pullout queen bed in the living room. The two queen bedrooms are upstairs and share a full bathroom with shower. The full bedroom is the smallest and located downstairs next to a full bathroom with shower. There is a wrap around deck that goes from the front of the house and around the side to a large deck on the back of the house.

Sit on the back deck in the Adirondack chairs, go for a hike, or watch cable satellite TV, all are possible during your stay. The house is located on a 5-acre wooded lot within an undeveloped subdivision. Surrounding the property are hundreds of acres of forest and over a mile of gravel/dirt roads (shared by all subdivision property owners) on which to hike and enjoy the outdoors. Birdwatchers will definitely want to bring their binoculars as you never know what you may see. A snowy owl, a rare migrant to southern forests, was observed Thanksgiving weekend 2013 off the back deck.

NOTE: Due to the steepness of the gravel driveway/access road to the property, it is highly recommended that you have a 4-wheel drive or rear 2-wheel drive vehicle if you are considering renting this property. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask.

There is not a telephone at the house so you will need a cell phone. I know Verizon cell phones work good, but I am not sure about other carriers. Also, the house is not currently wired for internet so your mobile device must be capable of a wireless connection to access the internet.

No pets are allowed. Please make sure you review the property owner's rental agreement prior to booking.

Ken,

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I will be sure to add more trash cans in the house. There is the one under the kitchen sink but I will put some in the bathrooms as well. Thanks for letting me know. Hope you can return soon.

Beautiful Mountain Escape!

  • 5 of 5
My fiance and I absolutely loved our stay at The Hideaway! The house is impeccable, the view is breathtaking, and that driveway is...exhilerating! We hiked the trails around the property and even caught a few bass in the pond. We also saw a bear and a deer!
The Hideaway is perfectly located. Close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The drive up 74 to Asheville is really gorgeous. The Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby too. We highly recommened taking a trip on the Parkway up to Craggy Pinnacle and Craggy Gardens.
We can't wait until the next time we are able to stay here at The Hideaway!

Incredible view, beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I met another couple at The Hideaway and absolutely loved it. The pictures of the home are very accurate. It is beautifully decorated, very clean, and so cozy. The view of the mountains is breathtaking. It unexpectedly snowed while we were staying and the fireplace inside and view of the snow covered peaks made for such a cozy weekend. The home has everything you might need for cooking. One of the upstairs rooms has an incredible view of the mountains to wake up to.

In terms of location, it is a little drive to Asheville and on a winding road through the mountains. It was a beautiful drive each way, but could be surprising for someone not familiar with scenic mountain drives and back roads. The name doesn't lie--Drop Off Drive is quite a drop off, but worth the drive in for the view. The directions suggest arriving during the day time, and after arriving at 10pm, I would definitely suggest that as well.

The owner provided fantastic directions. Even in the dark, it was easy to find the home and process to get in felt secure and was well thought out. The suggestions at the home for places to eat, hike, etc. were great, too. We hiked to the overlook over the hill from the property, and really enjoyed the local music, great food and beer from the Straightaway Cafe (it was a great spot to go that is relatively close to the home). Tia B's in Chimney Rock was also great--outdoor seating by the water and great food.

I would absolutely recommend this property. We can't wait to go back!

Owner's Response: Kayla,
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide a review. I am happy to hear y'all had a good time at The Hideaway. And I am glad y'all got to enjoy an early season snowfall. It rarely snows there in the fall! Thank you also for mentioning the driveway/access road (Drop Off Drive) to the house as the road is steep and anybody considering renting the house should have a rear-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicle. Front-wheel drive vehicles can get down the road just fine, but they have trouble getting back up the road as the back wheels spin on the loose gravel. Also, thank you for mentioning arriving/checking in at night as the property is very rural with no light pollution which is great for enjoying the nighttime but can be troublesome when navigating the roads and opening the driveway gate and house key lock box. For those future renters out there, please remember to bring a flashlight or some sort of light if you will be arriving at night. I am also happy to hear you all got to go to the Straightaway Cafe. It is one of a kind and a great place to eat, drink, socialize, and enjoy live music and it is the closest restaurant/bar/music venue to the house.

Thanks again for sharing your experience and I look forward to you all staying again!

Sincerely,

William

Nice home - extra clean - could use a few extra touches like trash cans, door hooks, bathroom shelves, etc, but the quiet and the view were unbeatable.
So remote - no noise or light pollution - you could almost hear the stars!
Sunsets were remarkable.
Driveway is steep - 4-wheel drive a must.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write and thank you for choosing the Hideaway as your home away from home. We will definitely be adding some trash cans and likely some shelving in the bathrooms. As you say, the driveway is steep and definitely part of the adventure of staying in such a private remote location.

Note to future renters: Due to the steepness of the driveway, this rental property is not recommended for those who will be driving front-wheel drive vehicles as you may have difficulty getting up the driveway. Any all-wheel (4-wheel) drive or rear-wheel drive vehicle can get up and down the road just fine.

Beautiful Home -- Book it today!!

My wife and I stayed here for our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was perfect! Close drive to Chimney Rock and Asheville, and far enough removed that it was silent at night. The Busbee Family did a wonderful job with directions, stuff to do and have everything you need at the house itself. Make good use of the indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit!

We stayed at the Hideway early Spring, very quiet and serene. If you want privacy this is the place.

We enjoyed sitting on the back deck with a beautiful view of the mountains and only the sound of the forest. We made s'mores at the fire pit.

We also visited Chimney Rock and Biltmore House. We had a great time at the Hideway. The cabin is very comfortable and cozy and we will stay here again.
