Nature Lover's Paradise

Nature Lover's Paradise

We had never been to the Homosassa area. We selected this area because it's on Florida's "Nature Coast" and since we are nature lovers we thought it would be a good fit. And it was perfect.

The home is set far back from the road directly on the river. It was very clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed for our month's stay. My favorite feature of the home was that it was so light and bright, many windows, all with great views. Every day I stood on the deck and watched birds, deer, sea otters, and fish jumping in the water. One day I saw a pair of dolphins swim by. The owner and the property manager called us several times while we were there to see if there was anything we needed.

We found many interesting activities in the Homosassa area. The Homosassa State Park was a wonderful experience. The Freezer was our favorite restaurant, specializing in steamed shrimp. We went on day trips to Orlando and Tarpon Springs. My husband went on a fishing charter in the gulf and caught sea trout. We enjoyed our stay here and brought home many good memories. I would certainly recommend this home to my friends.

Old Homosassa Waterfront Sanctuary - #117966

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I rented this house (Old Homosassa Waterfront Sanctuary) in January and February, 2013. We enjoyed it so much that we rented it again for the first two months of 2014.
We relished the quiet, peaceful surroundings. Large dramatic-looking birds such as snowy egrets, wood storks, great blue herons, and anhingas frequented the creek and salt marsh viewed from the front of the house, sometimes perching on “our” dock or standing on the edge of the lawn seeming to pose for photographs!
The immediate area is great for walking and biking, with low-traffic streets. It was fun to explore by bike and find views of the Homosassa River, creeks and tidal marshes. Sometimes we took our bikes to the paved 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail, used by walkers, bikers, skaters, and even horses (on a parallel trail), and to the 10-mile paved trail leading out to the Gulf of Mexico. The nearby Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park attracts visitors from all over, with its underwater viewing platform and huge variety of animals in natural habitats.
The house is spacious, comfortable and attractive, with a homey feeling. The heating/cooling system responds quickly to its user-controlled thermostat, greatly appreciated in changeable weather like January, 2014. The appliances, such as washer, dryer and dishwasher, are excellent.
We appreciated the well equipped kitchen, where we prepared most of our meals to enjoy on the dining table with the panoramic view. We also developed a list of favorite restaurants in Homosassa and in Crystal River (about ten miles north).
The house has wireless Internet access, unlimited telephone use, and two television sets with a great variety of channels.
Even though we didn’t take advantage of the many activities available in the area (kayaking, fishing, boat tours, to name a few), we found this is to be a wonderful and relaxing vacation house. The owners checked with us frequently to make sure everything was going well and dealt with any issues immediately.
