Overview

Property Details

Updated: Sep 10, 2014
2-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and a deck in San Francisco Sleeps up to 4

This colorful, thoroughly updated purple Victorian cottage greets visitors with bay windows and a red door.

Abundant windows throughout, in addition to a huge skylight and French doors that open onto the flower-laden deck, make the inside remarkably bright and open. The color-splashed interior is compact but very livable, and filled with folk art collected during the owners’ extensive international travels.

The upstairs features the kitchen, dining and living area as well as one bedroom and full bath; downstairs are a bedroom/office, office, and full bath, equally whimsical and colorful. Owners have an extensive library of books, maps, etc. of San Francisco and Northern California.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION

NEIGHBORHOOD: RUSSIAN HILL You just can't find a better location in San Francisco. This fairy tale cottage, located on a charming alley, is very quiet despite being in the very heart of the city. The alley is half a block away from the Hyde Street cable car line, which runs between Ghirardelli Square on the Bay and the famous stores and theaters around Union Square. Multiple bus lines intersect streets surrounding the house, which also is within an easy stroll of grocery stores, pharmacies, wine shops, boutiques, wonderful restaurants and cafés, and a multitude of coffee shops. Walkers will love being able to step out the front door and head to Chinatown, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Financial District, Downtown-Union Square, the Marina District and Marina Green, the Presidio, and Crissy Field. Incredibly convenient for taking a stroll or bus to watch sailing events on the Bay.

Charming restaurants and small businesses cluster on leafy Hyde Street between Jackson and Union Streets, and Polk Street is crowded with unusual boutiques, antique shops, trendy restaurants and night spots. A mini French quarter has sprung up around Polk and Green, where you'll find La Folie, THE restaurant where French chefs eat when visiting San Francisco; La Boulange, a traditional café-boulangerie; a French antiques store, and several French-influenced gift and home décor shops.

Russian Hill is a residential neighborhood with pockets of restaurants and shops. The views from the hills are ddazzling. The neighborhood got its name when gold rushers found seven Cyrillic-inscribed gravestones at the top of the hill. Consensus on the identity of the Russian men buried there -- they were reputed to be anything from sailors to fur trappers -- was never reached, the gravestones disappeared in the late 1800s, and the Russian influence has long since dissipated.

Charming retreat with city access

  • 5 of 5
I met up with family and stayed for a long weekend at this house and it did not disappoint us. It presents as advertised: tastefully decorated, comfortable, and located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. The homes on the street are charming and well maintained. I like to avoid renting a car when I travel, so being close to public transportation was a big plus. Between the bus that stopped at the end of the street, and BART, which was a short walk further down, it was easy to get around town. It's a really quick BART ride to downtown. The location of the house made it simple for us to immediately pick up the few essentials we chose not to pack, as a very nice grocery is on the way back from the BART. There are several nice restaurants on the same street if you don't feel like going back to the city center or cooking. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a comfortable place to relax after a long day of sight-seeing in San Francisco.

Perfect spot!!

  • 5 of 5
Super for our needs, two couples meeting for a brief reunion in the City. Each couple had our floor (bedroom/bathroom), loads of privacy and at the same time we shared the main floor for gatherings. Great place for catching up, beautiful inside and out. The deck was a real treat with gorgeous views. BART, and great restaurants within walking distance. Would definitely stay again!

Charming San Francisco Home

  • 5 of 5
This is a gem of a home in one of the best neighborhoods of San Francisco. I had my family visit for a week and we all had a wonderful time at this house. The house has a unique and charming interior and a beautiful deck area for outdoor eating and relaxing. For those who like to cook, it has a fantastic gourmet kitchen from which we produced some lovely family meals. It is perfectly located, central to restaurants, museums and shopping. Absolutely no need for a car, because the BART station is a 3 minute walk away, straight shot into Union Square or Embarcadero. Come2 SF was a pleasure to work with and I will definitely book this house again in the future

Quiet Comfort with Easy City Access

  • 5 of 5
106 Surrey offered the perfect combination of a quiet get-away with excellent access to vibrant San Francisco city life. Besides being a huge beautiful home... locale was a major factor for my husband and I. We loved that we could cook dinner at home (in a truly gourmet kitchen) and then dine al fresco on a huge private deck. OR we could just scoot into the heart of the city on BART in less than 10 minutes to enjoy all the city has to offfer... did I mention the subway is a quick 5-minute walk. To say it was the best of both worlds was an understatement. We also didn't even need to leave the neighborhood if we wanted... Glen Park was just lovely! Reminiscent of a little european village with a variety of markets shops and great restaurants. Truly a hidden treasure!
