Located on the 3rd floor of the Townhouse, overlooking the inner courtyard.

Owners on premises... fully serviced by an elevator lift.

Built in 1904 from Italian marble and Indiana limestone, The 5th Avenue Townhouse was erected by an old New York family as a crown jewel of the traditional Beaux Arts fashion.

Located on a tranquil New York City street and only 30 paces from Central Park, this elegant and aristocratic Townhouse was recently awarded the prestigious classification of Class 1 Landmark status.

Since 1994, the Owner's family have lived on the upper three floors of the building (floors 4, 5, 6).

The lower floors have been converted into completely separate and very private guest apartments (all with independent entrance).

They all are available for short- and medium-term let on a year-round basis.

The Owners and Maintenance Personnel live on Premises full time.

Daily maid and housekeeping service are included with every reservation (not optional - we insist on it..).

This property is listed by its Owners (a married couple with a 3 year old son) that live in on the premises in the upper floors. The Owners have lived in The Townhouse for over 24 years and have been hosting guests on a short- and mid-term basis for the past 9 years.

Housekeepers/maids live on premises and are available most of the time. Most matters get attended to in a matter of minutes.

The most wonderful and enjoyable New York stay.

My wife and two energetic boys from Brisbane, Australia were looking for an apartment that would provide a great base for our holiday in Manhattan. We were looking for an elegant and spacious property that would allow us to feel comfortable and not live on top of each other like in a hotel room. From the very beginning I was impressed with Julia and her willingness to help. The welcome was inviting and made us feel at ease. After travelling for almost two weeks prior to arrival the suitcase had accumulated some clothing in desperate need of a wash and within 24 hours our clothes were washed, folded and sitting on our bed upon our return from a day out.

The first night was spent at the baseball out in Queens and Julia arranged a town car to pick us up after the game which was great with a tired family wanting to get home.

Like all other accommodation there are some table stakes that are just crucial to a good experience. This starts with the hospitality of the host and the appearance of the apartment which both were fantastic. Then for the two kids the Wi-Fi was fast and consistent, and for me and the world cup being on and hot summer days we needed a great tv and an air conditioner to spend some down time after a long day of playing in central park. However, the most important aspect of a good holiday is a happy wife and that means shopping. The location is just terrific with a short stroll to central park and a neighbourhood of cafes, restaurants and shops. The proximity to Madison avenue is great and the boutiques went on for miles.

However, two things stand out for us on our holidays and in this case both were big ticks. The beds were large and very comfortable and the showers were hot and strong.

We went to Boston for a few days and were able to leave our suitcases in storage here which was very convenient.

All in all i highly recommend this accommodation. We stayed in both the balcony suite and the terrace suite and both were of excellent quality. We would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful, elegant accomodation in perfect UES spot

My husband, 2 year old daughter and I live in London and stayed in one of the apartments in Julia and Claudio’s townhouse for over two weeks this autumn. It was a perfect choice in every respect: great location steps from Central Park; cafes and shopping on Madison Avenue, and child friendly restaurants on nearby Lexington and 3rd Avenue. Most importantly, despite the central location, the townhouse located on a lovely tree lined street was also incredibly peaceful and quiet. The apartment was well equipped, clean and bright with daily inclusive cleaning and laundry service. Furthermore the hosts were extremely responsive to any request or question no matter how small but they were equally unobtrusive. We were able to receive shipments to the apartment in advance and during our stay which was extremely helpful. And as parents, we appreciated that the hosts set up a crib and provided some toddler furniture for use during our stay. If you are looking for a peaceful, spacious and elegant accommodation in a quintessential Upper East Side location that offers warm and responsive service in addition to kitchen and living space, this is the perfect choice.

Spacious, light and bright.

My husband and I have both lived in New york, and now visit the city frequently.
We prefer to stay in apartments rather than hotels. We were fortunate this trip to have found this 5th Avenue townhouse. We spent 5 nights in the Deluxe Balcony Suite. The location is terrific, safe, wonderful neighborhood and within walking distance of many New York attractions. We loved coming home to the spacious and very comfortable apartment and waking up to a bright, lovely view of the garden and ivy covered wall.

Julia and Claudio could not have been more gracious, and we will definately stay here again.

Just what the doctors ordered!

We are husband/wife doctors who took some time away from our practice and brought our two youngest children, ages 15 and 7, to NYC for a short holiday. This townhouse suited us perfectly. We stayed in the Deluxe Balcony Suite, which was elegantly appointed and supplied every amenity one might need. The bedroom was comfortable with lots of closet space. The living area provided two chairs which folded out into twin beds; just perfect for the kids. The home was surprisingly quiet for being so centrally located and we all slept very well.
The owners, Julia and Claudio, were wonderful hosts. Julia offered to shop for groceries for us prior to our arrival, and went out of her way to give us advice on restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing. Housekeeper Yulia did a great job keeping our space impeccably clean. Daily cleaning was included, and there were no additional taxes/fees/charges at checkout. The booking process was straightforward and painless. Responses to questions before arrival and during our stay were immediately answered by Julia. She even arranged a car to transport us to the airport upon departure. By choosing this suite, we had everything we might usually expect at a hotel, but with so much more, and at no additional charge.
This home is wonderfully located. It is steps away from Central Park and world-reknowned museums, and provides easy access to subway and tour bus stops. There are numerous upscale shops and restaurants within easy walking distance.
We wholeheartedly recommend this townhouse, and look forward to spending time here again the next time we visit the city.

Great Location

We are an Australian couple (retired lawyer and teacher) and we had just completed a 28 day Princess cruise firstly in the Baltic, then up to Iceland and then trans-Atlantic after visits to Glasgow, Belfast and Cork.

The location of this apartment, very close to Central Park with proximity to the Subway and 3 museums, as well as the pleasant walks up and down 5th Ave and Madison Ave, made staying here for us more attractive to us than "downtown" hotels/apartments.
We sampled local restaurants, e.g. Serafinas and convenience stores (we often prefer to 'eat in' ) and found them to be more than adequate.

The building itself was, as it looks, attractive and secure. The apartment (ours was the Deluxe Balcony) was comfortable (especially the bed), reasonably appointed, though in some respects it could do with an update, the wi-fi worked very well, our host Julia was pleasant, responsive and helpful and the housekeeping/washing service provided was very good.
We very much enjoyed our 8 night stay in New York and a big part of that was the great location. Yes we would stay here again.

We stayed at the balcony suite. Julia and the staff are very nice. We couldn't open the balcony. The furniture is too old, the wood floors are too noisy and we found a roach

Owner's Response: Unfortunately I made a wrong choice when agreeing to host this couple in the Balcony Suite over the Grande White Loft.
They liked the style of the very modern White Loft, but wanted to have the balcony and the view of the courtyard. So that is where we hosted them – in the Balcony Suite.
This was my mistake, as I should have understood that they really wanted everything to be brand new…
I suppose this unhappiness with the style of the apartment set the tone of their entire stay and I am truly sorry if they had less than most happy memories of our house.
Most of our guests simply want to stay with us.
For others style does matter… a lot… So please let us know if it matters to you!
Everything in the Townhouse is well maintained and we have 3 full time staff members living with us and taking care of the house...
It is true that some of the antiques in the Suite (merely decorative pieces of furniture) date back to 1650. They are kept polished and in good condition… apparently that is “too old” for some...
The couple found a dying roach between the two glass front entrance doors, and decided to point it out to us. Strange, as we would have probably removed it in a matter of minutes as soon as we saw it.
The insect was obviously a victim of “spraying” in one of the neighboring houses… it would not have been lying in the foyer waiting to be destroyed if it were a “resident” of our house...
Yes, it was a hot and humid August, and yes there are insects on the streets of NYC in August. There is nothing we can do about it. However we can keep our house as clean as possible and that is exactly what we do. – We clean, clean, and then clean again…
The two balcony doors are fully operable. However, in the humid month of July and August, the air conditioning is installed in the living room as well and then the balcony becomes accessible only through the right side of the 2 very large balcony doors,.. and that makes it much harder to open (the doors are big and heavy – it is easier to swing open 2 at the same time).
The rare-wood parquet floors were meticulously laid in 1904, and we hand-wax them 4x per year… however, as with any wooden floors, they do have a warm creak to them… a little if you are light footed, and a bit more creak if not.
So, if you are obsessed with newness… this apartment may not be the best choice for you… please try our Grande White Loft… located in the same Townhouse.
