Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Lenora,

We arrived home last night from the Big Easy a little tired, a few pounds heavier (ha ha) but full to the brim of wonderful memories. I just wanted to say “Thank you” for hosting us for our NOLA vacation.

The Americana was perfect for us and was so convenient to the festival site and everything else we wanted to see. We had such a great time and totally fell in love with your city, the neighbouhood and the lovely people that we met.

I sure hope that we get back there someday soon.

Rick thinks that next time he would love to spend a couple of months.

Guess I better buy a lottery ticket today!! :-)

Best regards,

Very nice place to stay near the city

  • 3 of 5
The apartment was very nice and clean. It was very convenient to get on the St. Charles street car to get to the city. The small bathroom shower could use a new floor and there were weeds outside the doorway. Also the front door needs to be reinforced it was very loose. We did enjoy our stay.

Super Convenient Location & Great Hosts

Super Convenient Location & Great Hosts

We stayed here for Mardi Gras, February 2013.

This is an adorably decorated three bedroom unit that is literally steps away from the streetcar. We picked this Uptown location because it is but eleven blocks or so from our favorite spots in the Riverbend. Places like Cooter Browns for Andygator, Madigan's, and of course the most delicious Camellia Grill, and there are many others along the way such as the myriad of hotspots on Oak Street. We were able to walk to all of them when we wanted, or simply walk across the street to the neutral ground to catch the streetcar. Palmer Park is right on the corner as well, which was a fun playground for our toddler.

Lenora was a wonderful communicator from the get-go, She answered all of my questions and even called me to discuss which of her units would be the best fit for our family since we were traveling with a toddler and both of our mothers.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a nice welcome basket of Community coffee, jams and wine. We felt right at home. The linens and towels were top shelf... super soft and cozy. This Carrollton Avenue neighborhood is very safe, appliances (including temperature control) worked well, and the kitchen was appointed with everything we needed, including sugar, sweeteners and tea.

I noticed someone else mentioned a dead cockroach in their review. We live in the South... we have bugs here. It is NOT an indication of cleanliness. The apartment was very clean. A dead bug means the pest control is working... that's a good thing. It just happens from time to time.

There is some street noise from the streetcar that can be heard in the front bedroom, but nothing horrendous... it's city living after all. Simply put your light sleepers in one of the back bedrooms.

All in all, this is a great property, especially for the price during Mardi Gras. We were all very happy with the location and the ability to ride the streetcar to the parades on St. Charles. I would recommend it!

Nice stay in a good neighborhood

  • 4 of 5
This first floor apartment is located in a relatively quiet, safe neighborhood. right on the St. Charles streetcar line. That is very is convenient if you don't want to drive everywhere which, given the streets of New Orleans, is not a great idea. Our interests were mostly Uptown, so the location was great for us. Getting down to the CBD and the French Quarter sans automobile is no big deal, but don't plan on getting there quickly using public transportation. Off street parking was great to have since finding parking on S. Carrolton is a challenge.

It was comfortable for 6 adults and a well behaved dog. There is one sofa suitable for 3 persons and that is the limit of seating in the living room. The glass top kitchen table seats 4, so don't plan on 6 people sitting down to eat together. Speaking of that table, it is unstable, so if it hasn't been secured, don't lean on it or you may be picking up broken glass. The kitchen is well appointed, but sufficient silverware for 6 was lacking.

The closet in the master bathroom is a large step down cavern that is a little bit spooky at night at first. The owner might want to consider putting up some kind of door. As several other reviewers have mentioned, if the upstairs neighbors have feet, you will hear them. Once we broke the code the wifi worked fine.

There are two bathrooms, one off the master bedroom and the other in the hall. The shower stall in the hall bathroom could use some additional lighting, and the darkness could lead one to question its cleanliness (which one of our party did) but that turned out to be more of an illumination problem than a sanitation issue.

Overall, except for the pickiest amongst us, it was a good place to stay in a nice area of New Orleans.

Americana on Carrolton

  • 4 of 5
Nice comfortable but small place. One block to the St Charles street car line which gives a nice view of some grand mansions on the way to the city. Noisy if additional guests upstairs not realizing one man's ceiling is another mans floor. Wifi was inoperable during our stay.

Beautiful apartment in a great neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5
This apartment was beautiful! We enjoyed the decorations, and the small bottles of wine as a house gift. There were 6 of us and we had plenty of space. The only negative was how far it is from the French Quarter. On the Streetcar it was about 50 minutes during the busy day. Besides the distance, its location is beautiful. Right in the middle of the Garden District, the homes around the neighborhood are very historic! Overall it was a wonderful home and I would love to stay again.

not sure if I would recommend this house

  • 2 of 5
We found the house to be old and run down but clean except the bathroom where there was hair all along the baseboard. The beds were very worn and hurt our backs. Worst of all the listing was not clear that this house has multiple units and this unit is on the ground floor. When the people upstairs waled it sounded like they were dropping bowling balls.
