1 room, sleeps 2, 1 full private bathroom

Your own private Harlem hideaway. A quiet dreamy oasis for your busy New York trip. Enjoy life in an 1895 brownstone in one of the city's most charming historic neighborhoods.

Enter from the front stoop through the ornate carved wood entry arch and you will feel like you have just stepped back 100 years in time. All original oak details which show the charm of gently worn history. Go straight ahead up the carpeted stairs to the top floor to your own private huge room.

The Guest Room is located on the top (3rd) floor of the building. There are no other bedrooms on that floor. It is the only unit rented as a room, rather than a separate apartment. However, many guests prefer this room over the others, as it has its own attributes which makes it special. Its charming retro feel will definitely make your stay in New York special.

The Guest Room is entered by a separate private entrance from the main hall. It is large (18’X18’) and has 3 south-facing windows which have their own original shutters for privacy or to darken the room. It faces the street down below and a clear view of the sky and treetops straight ahead.

Although the Guest Room does not have a formal kitchen, it does have a small refrigerator/freezer, toaster oven, microwave, and coffee maker, along with cups glass, dishes and utensils. These are all neatly hidden in the large armoire between the decorative fireplace and the closet.

The Guest Room has a high definition LED flat screen TV and wifi, as well as a radio/iPod player with an equipped iPod with a Harlem Hideaway playlist of blues and jazz. The queen size bed has a memory foam mattress. It has an antique desk and dresser, a bookcase with unique books and two relaxing woven chairs next to the vertical magazine rack containing vintage magazines and comics. It has an adjustable ceiling fan and lights with dimmer switches. During the summer it has an air conditioning unit.

The graffiti wall is the entire west wall. It contains thousands of signatures of bygone friends and guests (some very famous). A marking pen awaits your own addition to the wall.

The all white bathroom is five steps down the private internal hall. It is not shared and is dedicated only to the guests in the Guest Room. It has a skylight and claw foot tub and fan. The lights even dim to suit your mood. A hairdryer and outlet is provided, as well as a magnifying mirror and special gifts in the medicine cabinet for the ladies. Monogrammed bathrobes, soap and shampoo are also provided.

You also now have access to the beautiful shared backyard.

For an additional $25/night you have total access to the outside terrace on the same floor. You are up in the trees and it is a peaceful and relaxing way to have a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or eat a meal.

Harlem Hideaway has two other options you may want to consider as well: Harlem Hideaway Parlor Apartment sleeps 3 (Home Away # 982545). Harlem Hideaway Studio Apartment sleeps two (Home Away #982538). Garden Apartment (Home Away 3634519). All are full apartments, not guest rooms.

Harlem Hideaway- highly recomended accomodationy

  • 4 of 5
We had a fantastic visit in New York and staying at Harlem Hideaway was the best decision ever. Much better than a hotel. The room has everything you need. It is clean, the bed is very cofortable and you can make you own brekfast. The hole building is realy beautiful! Dennis is the best host you can have. He is helpful, have a lot of information and good advices what to see and visit, were to have brakfast and dinner. Coming from downtown we almost felt like home in the quite neighbourhood. The subway, nr 2 or 3, is located realy close and taks you downtown in less than 15-20 min.
Go to the Apollo theatre on amateur evening – good entertainment, Mannys have the best take away, for Breakfast go to Il Café Latte that have it all.
Take a boattrip by night round Manhattan, go to the bar in the mest distric Whiteny, where High Line Park begin, take a walk on High Line Park, take the L train, first stop, to Williamsburg to Hotel Withe. At the bar on 3 floor you can se the skyline of Manhattan.

We also recomend to have comfortable shoes for walking around, a good way to get to know the city. For exempel take a one day walk in Central Park – enjoy!!

We highly recomend Harlem Hideaway visiting NY and we absolutly stay at Harlem Hideaway if/when we come back.

Harlem Hideaway Stay

  • 4 of 5
We really loved the property and Dennis. He was so very gracious and helpful. The room was gorgeous, the bed very comfortable and there was lots of room for all of our belongings. This would have been 5-star if the bathroom was attached. The area was great, we were close to the subway, and lots of cool restaurants right within walking distance. We highly recommend this and would definately return!

Harlem Hideaway Was Uberfab!

  • 5 of 5
We loved our time in Harlem and staying at the Harlem Hideaway helped make that so. Dennis was an ever gracious host suggesting many local eateries and attractions, which we enjoyed. We highly recommend that folks visit the Studio Museum of Harlem, which we found more interesting than MOMA. We relished all the exhibits, but especially Kianja Strobert - Of This Day In Time. Go see it if you can.

And it was so close to everything! Including a subway stop that made it easy to jump downtown or to get to Penn Station.

The room was exactly as described and spotlessly clean. The bed, pillows and linens were extremely comfortable. Dennis has a great flair for design, which is enviable.

We were able to stash our luggage after check-out time, which was deeply appreciated as well as the use of huge umbrellas during the monsoon rain on the last day of our stay.

We are already telling our friends about the place and can't wait to go back!

Christmas In Harlem - New York

  • 5 of 5
Having booked via the internet we were always going to be apprehensive about what the place and area were really like having been dissapointed more then once previously.

Well I have to say we were pleasantly surprised that it met and exceeded our expectations and we felt within a day that we had bought our own piece of New York for the duration of our stay.

The room was large and private, and had all the comforts we needed including our own private bathroom down the hall. Dennis was a fantastic host and made sure we got off to a perfect start answering all our questions and pointing us in the right direction to the subway and various hotspots.

When we came home every night it was like our own little apartment and we loved that feeling. Definitely reccomend and Harlem was extremely safe and we had no issues whatsoever. Also very convenient to the subway which was two minutes away and took us anywhere we neded to go.

Highly reccommend and cant wait to get back again.

Harlem Hideaway was perfect for an ex New Yorker to be reacquainted with the city. Dennis was an excellent host, providing many details about the apartment and the neighborhood.
The apartment was very clean, quiet and Dennis was always available to answer any questions. It was a wonderful experience and I would gladly recommend my friends to visit the Hideaway.

From the Owner

The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park. I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.
