Absolutely beautiful historic 4 bedroom/3 bath steps from streetcar
This 'simply gorgeous' spacious and gracious historic 19th century home with a expansive tropical garden setting complete with a pool is in a fabulous section of Uptown just few steps off the St. Charles Avenue famous streetcar line which can take you all along the Avenue right to the beginning of the French Quarter. This FIVE STAR property known as the Oulala House/Pool & Gardens, was recently honored and reviewed by the VRBO BEARS ( see review above listing) who called it 'Magnificent'. This roving VRBO/Homeaway review group of 13 people stayed in both the Oulala House's main house and its charming on-site Garden View guests house. This upscale luxury property is located a piece of land that spans a whole block and is divided by several walled gardens with fountains. The main historic house has 4 beautifully appointed bedrooms and 3 full baths on 2 floors in the 4800 sq. ft which can accommodate 8-11 guests. The on-site charming Garden View guest house, which can be rented for an additional fee, has two bedroom and one bath and can sleep up to 6 more guests.
This beautiful home is within walking distance of Tulane and Loyola Universities, Audubon Park and Zoo and hundreds of local restaurants, quaint shops and music venues. Located at the end of St Charles Avenue on the Mississippi River side of the avenue and its historic streetcar line in the vibrant section of Uptown known as Riverbend. This classic 19th century home that exudes New Orleans elegance has 12 foot ceilings and is appointed throughout with art and antiques. It has a gracious and formal dining room, spacious French country kitchen, upstairs library and star watching terrace balcony, and lush gardens in a large outdoor entertaining area where there is a charming gazebo, a 17th-century cascading French wall fountain flowing into the refreshing pool, interesting antique garden ornaments throughout the verdant gardens, and a barbeque grill, all of which can be viewed from the raised kitchen deck while sipping your morning coffee.
There are four spacious and beautifully decorated bedrooms with queen beds and each is appointed with antiques and some with armoires. The master bedroom has a a view of the pool through its bay windows and a private bath with a large walk-in open shower; the Upstairs Veranda suite and Blue Room share a bathroom with jacuzzi tub through a central upstairs hall and the downstairs Parlor bedroom is appointed with Louis XVI antiques and has a beautiful hall bathroom with an antique marble table converted to a sink. All of the three bathrooms have full baths with two having tubs and all three having showers. The formal dining room, complete with chandelier, 19th plaster ceiling medallion and console piano, has seating for 8-10 and and the adjacent French country kitchen has a French 19th c table that seats 6. There is plenty of outdoor seating in the expansive patio around the pool with a covered marble dining table that seats 8 and a charming covered gazebo. The spacious kitchen comes with all of the Louisiana spices, cookware, lots of tableware , and table linens.There are flat screen televisions in all of the bedrooms and in the family seating area all equipped with cable . There is High speed internet WI-FI, central air and heat, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Just two blocks away is the Mississippi River levee where you can take sunrise and sunset walks to enjoy breathtaking views of the large ships gliding down the river. Guests who have stayed here have raved about the home and enjoyed its historic character and details. It is wonderful home for family entertaining as the flow from the kitchen onto the patio deck overlooking the gardens is perfect to oversee the large lush gardens with several bistro table sets, flowing fountains, antique gates and sparkling pool. In the spring there is a fresh vegetable garden in one of the three privately gated gardens on the grounds which spans across the block having two separate entrances on two streets. There is off-street parking for two cars on site.
On the rear of the property where the original carriage house use to be is an upstairs sunny open-air two bedroom guest house called the 'Garden View Apartment'. This private apartment overlooks the back enclosed garden and is also available for rent either with the main house for extra guests are separately for smaller groups of travelers. The upstairs garden apartment has a separate private entrance that enters into a beautiful French country courtyard with a French Provincial Town fountain flowing in the middle of it and has a large provincial wooded table for outdoor dining. The upstairs apartment rents for an additional $250-$350 a night if you need more accommodations than the four bedrooms in the main house for your guests. It has a stack-able washer and dryer, two bedrooms with queen beds, and a bunk bed with two twin beds tucked away in a nook in the open air floor plan of the living area. Thus, the apartment sleeps up to 6 additional guests. There is an open wall kitchen that is completely equipped. About the Owner
I , Michelle Le Blanc am the owner of French Fountains / A Gallery of Ancient Garden Elements that was founded on St. Charles Avenue in 2003. I have launched a new division of my company called The French Casting Company where we do castings of 17th century French limestone fountains and antique garden ornaments in addition to design and consultation for our clients from all over the country. You will see touches of my French collection of art, antiques, garden ornaments and fountains throughout my property which I continue to enhance on my travels. My large collection upstairs and downstairs of books includes an impressive selection of books on the historical influences found in gardens around the world. I also have a large selection of poetry books that may be of some interest to some of our visitors.

We loved our stay at the absolutely beautiful Oulala House. The owner's profession as a garden ornament consultant could be seen everywhere from the front door 19thc urns to the antique olive jars in the pool and garden area. We were delighted at how many goodies the owner had put out to welcome us upon our arrival. Wine, milk, bacon,eggs, coffee, orange juice,cookies, chips, nuts and her signature chocolate kisses throughout the house in bowls. Fresh flowers on tables and in hallways made us feel like we were at arriving at a special party just for us. The house is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in Old New Orleans, but has all the modern conveniences that we would want. The wonderful patio gazebo and pool was our favorite gathering spots where string lights and candles set a great mood for the night. We want to come back next year, as this was a memorable experience. You will love your vacation here!

A Magical Anniversary Weekend!
There were 18 of us; the property was a great fit for our family. We never felt crowded, due to the lovely flow of the house itself, plus having the Garden Apt for the grandkids. And we all spent some heavenly time relaxing, visiting, and welcoming friends in the two courtyards, and on the front porch, and on the upstairs porch facing sunset.
The house and the apt were sparkling clean and beautifully furnished. The bathrooms were thoughtfully stocked with plenty of towels, lovely bath products, and many other items that travelers need. The gorgeous beds were comfortable. The courtyards are lush gardens; Michelle's fountains are the centerpieces.
For the anniversary dinner, it was wonderful having two kitchens (and two ovens)! Michelle allowed and encouraged us to transform her beautiful dining room to suit our needs. The results were magical (we've sent Michelle pictures for her Facebook page)! We used her dishes, flatware, linens, glassware, bowls, serving pieces, votives, candles, etc…we lacked nothing to create an elegant and intimate experience. Our parents were delighted and overwhelmed.
During our stay, we took advantage of the nearby streetcar stop. Some took the streetcar to the French Quarter, while others drove and parked. We took Mom and Dad to Cafe du Monde, to the awesome Katrina exhibit at the La. History Museum, and to lunch at historic Cafe Maspero.
Near the Oulala House: some of the grandkids visited Cooter Browns, while others in the family enjoyed La Madeline Bakery and Camellia Grill, all within easy walking distance. To prepare for the anniv. dinner, we shopped at Roberts, Fresh Market and Cleaver and Co... (We also squeezed in a visit to Morning Call at City Park!)
We can highly recommend all that Michelle provides! We hope to return someday to the lovely Oulala House.

I had the master bedroom up stairs and it was spacious and lovely.
I think the only thing I would suggest to the owner is the shower knobs in the master. There is some weird funky way you have to position the knobs to get a comfortable water temperature and to shut the water off. There are 2 knobs and it's something like the left knob has to be positioned at "7:35" and the right knob has to be at "4:20:. That was a bit frustrating however in no way did it dampen my stay there.
The owner was very nice and sweet. They provided the kitchen with many snacks and things for a continental breakfast.
Her house is really charming and I don't believe the pictures do it justice. Her pics are okay but a little dark and gloomy. I suggested to her maybe retaking pics with nice lighting at night. The house is truly charming.
The place is beautiful, clean and comfortable. We were considering making it an annual trip there 😊
In response to the unfortunate difficulty with the large walk-in shower in the private master bathroom, I have my plumber coming today to rectify the quirk you experienced in this custom shower control valve that was installed a few years ago. I apologize for the inconvenience this caused you during your stay as the bride-to-be's stay should be hassle free. As I tell all guests when they arrive, we have 24 hour service people to assist with any problem that may arise during your stay. Since you did not tell me about the problem during your stay as requested in my house guidelines, there was no way for me to know you were experiencing a problem during your stay. Nor, did you tell me about he problem when you were checking-out. I am sorry that you felt it necessary to put this in the contents of your review as it is a maintenance issue that I would have addressed immediately if I had known you were having this issue during your stay. Since I have such a large 19th century home, it takes a lot of love and care and constant maintenance to keep her ship shape. My guests who are using the home are my best testers of my many mechanical systems and I am always so appreciative if they alert me to something that may malfunction during their stay so that I can respond to it immediately. Thank you all for coming and I hope that you come back next year as you indicated you may do in your review. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and I wish you all the joy and happiness in the world.
Oulala So Wonderful!
The kids and adults enjoyed the lovely swimming pool. We had a fabulous evening having a special Barbeque in the wonderul garden backyard.
We were able to all use the dining room for the dinner and also used the backyard gazebo for some of our meals. The dual control air conditioning made our stay comfortable.
The overall organization of the house and lovely food available for our use was much enjoyed. (Thanks for the first bottle of wine we consumed!)
Everyone had a great time and we thank you for making us feel welcome and comfortable. I will definitely recommend this home to my friends planning a trip to New Orleans. Can't say how successful and fun this special setting was!

Tulane and Loyola University are a 10 minute walk from the house as is the magnificent live oaks of Audubon Park and Audubon Zoo. The Mississippi River levee is just two blocks from house for beautiful sunrise and sunset runs, walks or bike rides. Fabulous location!

Failure to do so will require the remaining balance to be due. A Damage insurance policy is required that is purchased for
through VRBO during the booking policy and ranges from $49-$89 depending on the size of the group. This insurance policy covers $1500 in damages, if any, occur to the property during the guests stay.

“Experience the charm of a real 19th century New Orleans home with its upscale comforts yet historical references. The 12 ft. ceilings, exquisite furnishings, and large rooms are one of the first thing some guest note on their arrival. Others enjoy exploring the rooms to view the fine art and antiques that they discover on their stay. However, one of the most wonderful experience is the warm and gracious setting one feels in the kitchen for breakfast or dinner where fond memories are made through good food and conversation. You will want to cook in this kitchen and then slip outside to the outside dinning area to enjoy the twinkling lights strung along the 7 foot stucco walled garden wall all year long. The favorite spot most of my guests enjoy gathering is the verdant expanse of the pool area with its numerous seating areas The sound of the fountains flowing makes for a romantic candle lite night. In the warmer months most of my guest have chosen to sip cocktails by the pool while they take a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing. There are many places to have private conversations on the grounds that has several gardens enclosed behind stucco walls and antique gates. My favorite is star gazing on the upstairs terrace on a clear night.”

- For large groups the Oulala House/Pool and Gardens also has a Garden View apartment that if rented for additional fee also could accommodate up to 6 additional people . The main house sleeps 8 people in four queen beds for the rate nightly rate. Three extra bed can be made up in the main house for a one-time fee of $75 a bed. Thus, the main house can accommodate up to 11 people comfortably for a family reunion or extended friend gathering.
