5 Off the Beaten Path Fall Destinations

Fall Foliage VacationsFall head over heels for these unique fall destinations!

Roland, Arkansas

Arkansas features some of the best fall foliage in America, but not too many people are aware! Whatever you do, don’t overlook the overlooks of Pinnacle Mountain, a day-use state park located in Roland – a small town outside Little Rock. The seeds of winter and the leftovers of summer provide some of the best natural views in Arkansas, and make a fall hiking trip a one-of-a-kind experience.

Trenton, NJ

New Jersey’s capital city may not be the first place you think to visit on your fall getaway; after all, New England (and also New York) take the cake when it comes to fall excursions. But that’s what makes Trenton a special find. Considering the state's nickname, it’s not too surprising that the foliage of the “Garden State” is a pretty sight to see, and this is especially true in October. Trenton is one of the most walkable cities in the US, so scenic strolls through town are hardly uncommon!
Fall Pumpkins

Circleville, Ohio

Circleville’s only claim to fame is its Pumpkin Show, the largest pumpkin festival in the United States. The four-day long festival is held every October and draws nearly half a million visitors to the otherwise indistinguishable Midwestern town. Why? The line for the largest pumpkin pie in the world is worth it; the parades feature Circleville’s best and brightest; and the Miss Pumpkin Show is always entertaining! Circleville is a great idea for your next fall getaway.

Hermann, Missouri

Watch the leaves change color in Hermann. Whether you’re biking along Katy Trail or walking along the banks of the Missouri River, fall beauty will surround you. This makes Hermann, a town rich in German history, the perfect setting for one of the country’s very best Oktoberfests. Oom-pah bands, beer tasters (as well as wine tasters; the area features seven wineries), and plenty of other festivities take over Hermann for the first four weekends in October.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

Albuquerque, New Mexico

New Mexico, off the beaten path, is a tourist's wonderland. One of its many treasures is Albuquerque. From the leaves to the hot air balloons, Albuquerque is full of color in the fall! The world-renowned Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is held every October and for nine days the skies are filled with ballooners. But the Balloon Fiesta is one of many festivals; the Albuquerque Wine Festival and New Mexico State Fair are also favorites. When you're not partaking in an annual celebration, check out the local farmer’s markets and the Albuquerque Museum! Consider an Albuquerque vacation house instead of trying to book a small hotel room at a quick-to-sell-out hotel.
