Cheap April Vacations

April is a nice time of the year to take a vacation—before the summer crowds and summer temperatures hit. Where can you go for cheap April vacations? Let's explore the possibilities.

Travel Tips for Keeping It Cheap

  • Plan ahead: know when you can travel and start looking into plane tickets and lodging ahead of time.
  • Know your budget: know how much you have to spend on this vacation, including travel to/from, lodging, food, and entertainment. To save money on food, consider finding a vacation rental (condo or house), rather than a hotel, that will provide you with a kitchen and the ability to eat in. Rentals also tend to be roomier and accommodate more people.
  • Most of all, relax and have fun!

Las Vegas

Perhaps one of the most fun cheap April vacations is Las Vegas, which has something to offer just about everyone. Even if you don't gamble, Vegas has some of the best shows, restaurants, and nightlife in the world, not to mention theme parks, museums, and activities for kids. Furthermore, the Grand Canyon National Park, one of the world's most amazing national wonders, is just a short car ride away.

You can also book a bus or helicopter tour. Must-sees include the Aventuredome at Circus Circus, America's largest indoor theme park; the "Bodies" exhibit at the Luxor; and any of the Cirque du Soleil shows. Vegas is also a great venue to see your favorite musician, magician or comedian. Top-rated restaurants for overall dining experience include Alize (French), Il Mulino New York (Italian), Shibuya (Japanese), and Aureole (American). Best of all, due to the overwhelming amount of competition for tourists, Vegas vacations can be very inexpensive.

Amusement Parks

Cheap April vacations were made for the theme park; temperatures are mild and lines are reasonable. Of course, the two most famous parks are Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and Disney World in Orlando, Florida. These are both great options, especially if you have children who are old enough to enjoy the experience.

Disney World: Orlando's Walt Disney World is more extensive than Disneyland, plus the city of Orlando itself is geared toward tourists. For younger kids, the fairytale Magic Kingdom is usually a hit. Adults will appreciate Epcot Center, and Disney's Animal Kingdom is for fun-seekers of all ages. The Cirque du Soleil's permanent show, La Nouba is an impressive feat of talent.

For restaurants, California Grill's American cuisine is sure to please. For more casual fare in the park, try Chef Mickey's. Other highly rated restaurants include Fulton's Crab House (seafood) in Lake Buena Vista, and Todd's English bluezoo (seafood) or Victoria & Albert's (international), both in Walt Disney World Resort. When it comes to nightlife, check out the pubs and jazz clubs on downtown Disney's Pleasure Island.

Disneyland: The world's first family-oriented mega theme park, Walt Disney World, is still "The Happiest Place on Earth." Disneyland contains eight sections: Main Street USA, Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, Frontierland, Mickey's Toontown, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland features the famous Space Mountain (newly revamped), Star Tours, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and Buzz Lightyear Astro. New Orleans Square features the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, one of Disney's most popular rides. Mickey's Toontown and Fantasyland are both popular with younger kids.

While you are in Anaheim, check out Knott's Berry Farm and Knott's Soak City Water Park. Highly rated restaurants include Napa Rose and the House of Blues (both American cuisine), which are located in the Disneyland Resort.

Wherever you travel, we hope you enjoy one of Vacation's cheap April vacations.
