California

San Francisco

There are so many famous places in and around San Francisco that have appeared in movies that it could take pages and pages to list them all. Alcatraz is perhaps one of the most famous with well known movies such as The Rock and Birdman of Alcatraz filmed there. And what about those famous car chase scenes that were filmed on the San Francisco hills, including one of the most highly regarding car chase scenes in movie history in the film Bullitt. And don’t forget the Golden Gate Bridge. This easily recognized landmark has been featured in many popular films including Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Utah

The western state of Utah, with its stunning scenery, has been a favorite of moviemakers for years. The small southern Utah town of Kanab has been the site of numerous famous westerns including The Outlaw Josie Wales, and The Devil and Miss Sarah. Other movies filmed in Utah include Thelma and Louise, Planet of the Apes and Napoleon Dynamite. And of course Park City, Utah is the home of the Sundance Film Festival — the premier film festival for independent films.

Mexico

Mexico has been the site for movies for years, and mainstream movies are no exception. Total Recall, Quantum of Solace and Altered States are just a few of the movies that have been filmed in Mexico.
