Top 10 Labor Day Vacations

Don't feel all down in the dumps about summer's end, because there's still one three-day weekend left to let loose. Kick back on the lake, listen to blues in DC, or sample a Taste of Colorado... the world is your oyster, and Vacation Rentals.com's reminds you of this with the Top 10 Labor Day vacations.

1. Chicago

The 70 degree weather will beg you to take a walk through Lincoln Park, while the sounds of the 31st Chicago Jazz Festival will keep you dancing all weekend long. The Windy City always makes for a great getaway, but that’s especially true on a holiday. Watch the Chicago Bears in a preseason football game, or check out the fireworks at Navy Pier. There are a million things to do, and only three days to do it all, so get here fast!

2. Lake of the Ozarks

Although the Lake of the Ozarks was made by men, you’d never know it. That’s because it’s big, like really big – it's got 1,050 miles of shoreline, to be exact. The usual things-to-do include fishing, birding, caving, horseback riding, water skiing, boating, and a whole heck of a lot more, particularly on Labor Day weekend, when several themed events take place.

3. Washington DC

Being the seasoned tourist destination it is, DC has it going on for Labor Day weekend. The National Symphony Orchestra will be giving a free concert at the Capitol, but you can catch free music just about wherever you go, like at the DC Blues Festival. Lots of kid-friendly festivals and events are on the schedule, too.

4. San Francisco

From shopping on Pier 39, to exploring the Hearst Castle, to taking a clichéd snapshot of yourself standing in front of the Golden State Bridge, San Francisco is one of those evergreen destinations, always worth stopping by. As an added bonus, it'll be easy to get your fill of it in 3 days.

5. Las Vegas

Not a single bar, hotel, pub, or street in Vegas will be taking it easy over Labor Day weekend. That’s because the city’s full of people looking for a party. So, if you’re in the mood for some non-stop reveling, plan a Labor Day vacation, Sin City style. Don't plan to return to work on Tuesday, though.
