Awesome Cabin, Exactly as Described

Review submitted: May 20, 2009   Date of arrival: April 26, 2009

We stayed at Thistle Britches from April 26-May 5 2009 and we didn't want to leave. This cabin was exactly as describe and viewed in the pictures. The owners are awesome, Jamie was very helpful with anything we called and asked him about. We loved the home feeling in the cabin and that it was well taken care of. We would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great cabin with all the amenities but far enough away for some peace and quiet.

We had a wonderful stay. The cabin was all they said it was and more. We had no problems, well it took me two tries to unlock the door but I had just gotten out of an 11 hr car ride lol. Not only was the cabin lovely, but it was convenient to everything we wanted to do. I loved that this cabin had a yard for the kids to play in and the view was lovely. We were very comfy here. The hot tub was wonderful after the hikes. The best activity of the trip was our white water rafting trip with Smokey Mountain Outdoors White Water Rafting. When we come back (and we will) we would like to stay here. It was well equiped to cook in (which we did almost every night). Thank you for sharing your lovely home; it made our vacation great.

Will go back!

Review submitted: March 8, 2012   Date of arrival: February 17, 2012

The cabin had all the amenities we were looking for. I will name a few that were our favorites including: the amazing view of the mountains (the cabin was at the top of the mountain on the side we were on), having a nice big flat grassy area for our dog to play around on, a pool table, a hot tub, a jacuzzi tub, games, close proxemity to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and the seclusion from other cabins. These were all of the major things on our wish list and this cabin had them all plus some. If we had to say anything negative, the only thing would be that the place wasn't as updated as some that we did see, but we were willing to give on that since it did have all the other things we wanted during our stay.

Secluded Home near towns

AmyAmes (Alexandria, VA)
Review submitted: January 18, 2012   Date of arrival: January 11, 2012

There were 8 people in my party and one dog. The location was great, easy to find and very convienent. The home had everything we needed for cooking and cleaning. I would suggest bringing additional towels and garbage bags as those were the only things we ran out of. The hot tub was amazing except it wasn't covered and it rained most of the time we were there. The cabin is perfect for 6 but may be alittle to crowded for 8. The bathroom situation was unfavorable because there was no unattached bath available for use. All in all, we had a great time and slept very comfortably!

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, pet-friendly, romantic getaway

Owners response: Hi Amy, Glad you guys had a good time!

There were extra towels under the TV in the bedroom downstairs where we store "changeover" linens, wish we had known you guys were running low :( Usually our cleaner leaves extra bags under the sink.

Sorry to hear you had rain most of the time, definitely puts a damper on things. We thought about covering the hot tub, however we felt that would block out the stars, and open nature feeling on the clear nights which is the majority of the evenings.

Eight people is the max, it is best suited for 2 couples (king bedrooms), and kids (fold outs). Yes, both bathrooms are attached to each bedroom.

Beautiful Mountain Views

Robin (Greencastle, PA)
Review submitted: November 11, 2011   Date of arrival: October 22, 2011

This was the perfect home for us to rent and experience Pigeon Forge for the very first time. As soon as I opened my car door I smelled the pines - so refreshing! The home was so cozy, clean and beautiful, and to hear the Dollywood locomotive train whistle echo through the mountains - it was great! The week was a beautiful fall week and we spent many afternoons sitting on the deck soaking up the warm sun and looking at the beautiful mountains and autumn colors. Although it was quite thrilling driving a 1/4 mile up the mountain to get to the cabin, but once you get the first round trip done, you're good from then on out, plus, it helped that the directions were dead on! We took my in-laws along with us who has never stayed at a vacation home before and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay and the entire trip. Our little dog, Isabella, loved it too. Dixie Stampede is a must - we truly enjoyed the meal too, and Bentley's BBQ was awesome. When going to Cades Cove, go early if you want to see any wildlife. We were bumper to bumper on a 11 mile loop which was very tiring. We didn't see any bear, but we did experience one. We woke up one morning and our storage container had been broken into and knocked apart I'm assuming by a bear - I guess he was after the bacon grease!! LOL. Anyway, love this place and the big screen TV, plus it's very peaceful and far enough away from the main drag - that's what I loved!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Great Location and Accommodations!

Dollywood Junkies (Jonesborough, Tennessee)
Review submitted: September 12, 2011   Date of arrival: September 9, 2011

We really enjoyed our last minute weekend getaway at Thistle Britches cabin! The view was fantastic and it was so close to Dollywood which made it really convenient for us. We really could hear the birds at times from Parrot Mountain and the train at Dollywood which is not something every cabin can offer! The cabin was true to its pictures and was clean, the furniture is nice and the kitchen is well stocked. There was plenty of space for our group of 4 adults and 4 kids to spread out. We spent time up in the game loft and out at the fire pit and some of us relaxed in the hot tub. We thought the seclusion was nice but yet it was close to everything we needed. Thanks Jamie and Amanda for the last minute opportunity! We will see if Thistle Britches is available next time we head that way.

Review submitted: August 17, 2011   Date of arrival: August 7, 2011

This cabin was everything I expected from the listing and more. The location is WONDERFUL! Private but at the same time it is close to everything. We only had one problem that could happen to anyone at anytime. The refrigerator quit working but Jamie had a new one delivered the very next morning without interfering with any of our plans. It was awesome after a day out full of activities (white water rafting, zip lines, attractions, magic show, sight seeing and shopping) to come back and sit out on the deck and enjoy the beautiful view. We grilled out twice and had a great time just hanging out at the cabin playing pool and games. I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend quality time with my family. Thank you again Jamie and Amanda

Beyond Expectations

Just a quick note to say how much we thoroughly enjoyed our time at your gorgeous home. We were extremely excited based on the pictures hosted online. Upon arrival, we were blown away that the home, lot, and view, is actually more beautiful than we anticipated. Relaxing on the porch, soaking in the view, and being swept away by the sounds of the train at Dollywood and the parrots at Parrot Mountain was nothing short of incredible.

The short jaunt to all local amenities, whilst being tucked away in the woods in a private luxury cabin was an absolute dream. It was a stunning experience, all around, and one we will never forget. We will absolutely return, and have already passed on the recommendation to several friends as well. Thank you for sharing this polished jewel of a property with us.

We enjoyed these restaurants: Old Mill, Bullfish Grill, Smoky Mountain Brewery, Log Cabin Pancake House. We enjoyed these amenities: Dollywood, Splash Country, Forbidden Caverns, Titanic, Dixie Stampede, Hatfield & McCoy dinner show, Wonderwerks, Hillside Winery, Apple Valley Winery, Mountain Valley Vineyard.

Protip: Avoid the Parkway as much as possible by using Teaster Lane, and injecting yourself onto the Parkway where needed. This is a 4 lane road that runs parallel to the Parkway, but there is literally no traffic, ever. The Parkway is bumper to bumper all day, every day. Teaster will save hours upon hours of drive time over the course of a week.

Nice Location

Summer Getaway (Indianapolis, IN)
Review submitted: June 27, 2011   Date of arrival: June 12, 2011

Cabin was ideally located with a great view across the mountains. Tastefully decorated with decent layout. Housekeeping sorely lacking as there were dead bugs and dog hair laying around. Also battled mouse droppings all week. I don't feel this was the owner's fault as much as it is the cleaning crew but I didn't like paying a pet deposit and a cleaning deposit to go into a cabin that needed something more than surface cleaning. I think the owners have tried to supply a very nice cabin but I couldn't get past the cleaning that needed to be done.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with teenagers, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: We were notified of the your situation 3 days after checkin. We strive to keep one of the cleanest cabins in the area to meet our renters expectations and have received numerous compliments from guests on the cleanliness of our cabin. I wish I would have been called when you first found any items and the cleaners would have been resent to address your concerns.

I offered to have the cleaning crew come back out to address the concerns however was told the situation was taken care of and seemed more attention was placed on the cleaning fee than rectifying it.

Once notified, we immediately had pest control sent out to take care of the mouse and any other pest issues the renter had.

The pics I received of 3 dead moths on the floor would be normal after staying in the cabin (in the woods) for 3 days because they will congregate around the outside lamps at night and fly in, then die, once you have entered and exited the doorways. We provided a broom and dust pan in this event.

Regarding the pet deposit, this fee is for the convenience of bringing your pet along with you on vacation vs paying for boarding at a kennel. The fee helps us to replace any damaged furniture in the event a pet does do damage. These pet fees enable us to allow pets in our cabin. This is not a cleaning fee.

I had also offered to refund the cleaning fee for the inconvenience but you also wanted the pet fee back too?

This is definitely not a normal occurrence. I am glad you enjoyed everything else.

quiet, comfortable, perfect vacation spot !!!! It was exactly as described, we were pleasantly surprised. Our dogs LOVED the woods, plenty of room to roam. We had good correspondence with the owners and have recommended to two people already, and we just got back a few days ago !!!

Was a little put off by an envelope in the kitchen saying "maids tip", since we were paying a cleaning fee, did not feel that was necessary.

Our stay at Thistle Britches

Troy (Columbus, Ohio)
Review submitted: September 12, 2010   Date of arrival: September 3, 2010

Our stay at Thistle Britches was very enjoyable. It was as advertised. We had everything we needed including spices, cookware, linens, etc. We had forgot our dogs water and food dishes and they actully had a spare set we had used!! the views were awesome. we also made smores after we made a campfire one evening. There was a bit of a bug problem (centipeds) in the lower level but noticed that there was some bug spray applied to the exterior of the home. so i would say that they at least were attempting control the problem. But i wouldnt say the problem was extreme by any means. The cabin was very clean when we arrived. Dollywood is literaly 3 mins away and we heard the train daily as it made its way threw the park. It is also very private. there is only one other cabin in site of this one and it is a good 300yds. away. We highly recommend Thistle Britches to anyone and if we return to the area i will once again rent the home for sure!!

Perfect Vacation

Review submitted: April 28, 2010   Date of arrival: April 11, 2010

My family and I had the most perfect vacation at Thistle Britches! The cabin was more than I had expected! It was very clean and the details that were given were TRUE! I have been to other cabins where you get there and you think "this is not what they described." Jamie was very nice and helpful! The cabin had everything we needed and we enjoyed having a fire almost every night we were there. The views were amazing! I like the private setting better than a road with cabins right next to each other. It is also in a great location. Pigeon Forge is only about 5 minutes down the road and Gatlinburg is only 10 to 15 minutes. We enjoyed going to Forbidden Caverns, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Horse Back Riding, and Dolly Wood is at the bottom of the mountain. We did not get to visit the new Titanic museum they had there or visit the parrots we heard from the cabin, there was so much to do that we will have to see it next time. I will recommend this cabin to everyone I know and will return here on my next vacation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us, it will bring a lifetime of memories for us and many other families!

Sincerely,
Christina

Thistle Britches: a room with a view to serenity

Dark Blaze (Loganville, Georgia)
Review submitted: February 16, 2010   Date of arrival: January 1, 2009

My wife and I stayed for a week at the Thistle Britches cabin in early December, 2008, to celebrate our honeymoon. (I apologize for the delay in writing my review- we stayed around 12/07/2008, so please ignore the dates chosen below). The experience was absolutely wonderful. Although the pictures in the ad of the property are very resplendent, the cabin is actually far more beautiful in real life. All of the information provided to the public is accurate, and carefully detailed. The beautiful mountain setting of the cabin is surpassingly peaceful. The nights especially were blanketed by a most delightful tranquility and silence. The views of the nearby mountains are breathtakingly gorgeous. The cabin itself is nestled near the summit of a tremendous hill, which provides a wonderful vantage point overlooking the valleys below. The wildlife in the area of the cabin is delightful and unique. My wife and I once had the divine pleasure of seeing a solitary piliated woodpecker, happily pecking a tree adjacent to the rear of the cabin at the brink of the woods. It was an awesome experience. The inside of the cabin was absolutely immaculate. It was clean enough to satisfy even the most meticulous of neatniks. The interior of the cabin smelled clean, vibrant, and inviting. The whole entire house was as clean as a pin. It was absolutely delightful. The location is also nice. It is far enough away from the main strip of Pigeon Forge to give it a truly rustic, mountainous feel, yet it is not far away from the convenience of stores and the city of Pigeon Forge. There are a plethora of nice dining establishments in the vicinity, from McDonalds and Taco Bell to nicer upscale Steakhouses. The owner of the property was very polite, friendly, and helpful. One day, the electricity temporarily went out in the cabin. I immediately called the gentleman who owns the cabin, and within less than 30 minutes, he had rectified the problem by contacting the power company. There are many amenities in Thistle Britches. There are awesome video games to play, a large pool table, a jacuzzi, big screen televisions, cable, and adequately sufficient bathrooms. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire cabin. This experience was wonderful, and I would recommend Thistle Britches to any friend or family members who might like to get away to the mountains for a short time. I commend the owner of the property for being so helpful, polite, and supportive. Keep up the good work!

Perfect Get-Away!

Two Sisters from Nashville (Nashville)
Review submitted: November 16, 2009   Date of arrival: November 11, 2009

Thistle Britches is awesome! My sister and I came to this cabin for some much needed R&R. Everything was in place for us to settle in and realax from the start. First and foremost, the cabin was very clean. The kitchen is well appointed and the layout was just so comfortable. Nice big soft leather couches in the living area that made it so easy to sit in front of the fireplace and relax. The wrap around deck has three different points of entry and exit for really convenient access to the different deck areas like the Hot Tub (yeah!) or the tables and chairs on the side where you catch the most spectacular view of the mountains, or the front entry that has a little gate at the stairs so that you can keep your pets contained on the deck. How thoughtful! The hot tub was perfect and in great condition. The living area had a surround sound system with an ipod docking station that made us feel right at home. Everything was great. We built our own campfire our last night there and it was totally magnificent. We roasted our marshmallows and had flashbacks to our younger days. The dogs had a wonderful time running around in the yard. It was perfect because there is access to the yard from the upper and lower areas. The beds were comfortable. There was plenty of linen. The firewood was stocked for the campfire. Access to stores was a hop skip and a jump. It was an extraordinary time for us and our dogs. Jamie was very accessible and resonded to our needs with care. We couldn't have been more satisfied with the owner's customer service. What more can we say... We'll be back! Thanks Jamie and Amanda for having such a wonderful PET FRIENDLY cabin!!! Rocky Top will always be, home sweet home to me.... Good 'ol Rocky Top, Rocky Top Tennessee, Rocky Top Tennessee....

Perfect in every way!

Review submitted: October 27, 2009   Date of arrival: October 20, 2009

Our four night rental was just perfect at Thistle Britches. We couldn't have asked for anything for anything better. The location in Pigeon Forge is nowhere near the chaos of the "strip", so quiet and secluded! Just a quick turn or two and you're on the way to the SMNP Entrance without any of the congested traffic. If you want Dollywood it's perfect! If you want to enjoy the mountains without falling off a cliff this it's perfect too. Our boys and our dogs loved the front yard (access from two levels) and the fire pit area! Cabin is equipped with everything you need. The upstairs living room is not huge but there are so many places to be in this cabin that's its just fine. The view is amazing; it's hard to believe that you're so close to it all. The wraparound porch and hot tub is a dream. The road is a bit windy so be prepared with the right vehicle and try to arrive when it's light out. I think the rates are a steal for this gem. Thank you so much!! We had a wonderful stay and hope to return. I would recommend this cabin to my best friend. Jon, Linda jacob & Dylan

It was Great! Plenty of activities at the cabin to keep the kids occupied and close to the Nascar Speed Park that the kids love so much. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows outside, which you can't do at most cabins that are situated on steep hillsides. I have already reccommended Thistle Britches to friends.

Owners response: Glad to hear it! The city lights of Pigeon Forge nestled along the mountain rang in the distance is great to look at while hanging on the deck or by the campfire. You can also see the Gatlinburg Ski Slope in the distance.

They owners were very responsive and informative, great customer service. Would definately recommend to anyone.

Just wanted to take the time to thank you for such a nice retreat at your mountain home "Thistle Britches". This visit was for our 6th wedding anniversary. The view was absolutley amazing. The cabin itself was wonderful and felt so much like our "home away from home". We appreciated the fact that you take so much care in making sure your cabin is comfortable and cozy. We captured some GREAT pictures from the front porch ,as well as, the trail right outside the cabin. We loved this place so much that we didn't even want to leave. We can't wait to get back there. Thanks again. 2-4-09 to 2-8-09.
