We spent many an afternoon lazing by the pool, plus the odd massage poolside organized by Joanne. We were totally looked after by Joanne & Chuck from the moment we arrived. In fact before that Joanne had answered questions by email about how to find the place, where to buy a local sim card for my phone and other helpful hints.
The apartment was great. Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean.
We spent over two weeks there and found it ideal as a base to explore the many Mayan ruins and natural attractions within an hour or two's drive.
I would recommend this apartment without hesitation.
Thank you Joanne and Chuck.

Perfect location perfect hosts

Review submitted: February 22, 2012   Date of arrival: February 1, 2012

This casita was authentic, safe, and comfortable. One block from the beach walk, or "Malecon," it was in the perfect location. Best of all, the Canadian owners/caretakers made the experience magnificent. Joanne was a great friend and hostess. In every way, her service exceeded my expectations. No matter when you arrive or leave, Joanne will be there to greet you. A first day trip to the market(the Bodega) helps make the transition there seamless. She even had a book of all the eating places and their quality, explanations of the do's and don'ts of the Yukatan, ways to tap into the services of the city, and "must see" sites.Something special happening in town-Joanne makes sure you know about it and how to participate. Top that off with free internet and Canadian cable tv and you have a special place to stay.

This place is

cybor (portsmouth, ri, us)
Review submitted: November 19, 2011   Date of arrival: October 31, 2011

now on my favorite list for return visits. There literally were no surprises except the property does actually look a bit better than the photos. The grounds and landscaping are gorgeous and the interior is bright and cheery. This is something that you don't always find in Mx. Lots of places to hang out inside and out and right around the corner from the beach and restaurants. What more could you want.
I also want to mention that Joanne (the owner) was extremely helpful and went far above and beyond the call of duty.
We (husband and I) highly recommend this very clean and well located rental.

Arriving in Progreso late at night Joanne was ready to greet us. The location is excellent with walking distance to most stores and sight seeing. Joanne was gracious to take us to the larger grocery store and spent time explaining the differences in food for the Yucatan. She gave us a short sightseeing tour and how safe Progreso was. We truly enjoyed out stay and loved the suite and large pool with total privacy. We would recommend this home any time...thanks again Joanne and Chuck

Oasis del Mar is close to everything you want to be close to in Progreso including the beach which is just around the corner. It is a great place to stay with two cozy apartments and a wonderful pool. Joanne and Chuck are great hosts who are happy to tell you places to go and things to do or, if you prefer, let you alone. Wifi is important to me and there are two separate ISPs so that if one has a service issue, you still have a connection. We'll be back in Progreso later this year and plan to stay there again.

Amazing Stay

Review submitted: January 14, 2011   Date of arrival: December 27, 2010

We had an amazing time down in Progreso staying with Chuck and Joanne. Everything listed in the description is perfectly accurate, but there is just so much more to see and do, and Joanne and Chuck are unbelievably welcoming and accommodating. The extremely comfortable atmosphere of the property makes it feel like a home away from home. The amount of tours are endless, and delicious food is usually just down the street or around the corner, and for the most part, inexpensive. We highly recommend this place to anybody, whether it's somebody looking to just relax and enjoy the warm weather, or someone with a "do it all, see it all" attitude, Progeso and Oasis Del Mar has something to offer for everybody. -Randy and Alannah

Home away from home

Happy Campers (British Columbia, Canada)
Review submitted: September 21, 2010   Date of arrival: April 1, 2010

This is a great place to stay. We travel frequently and usually are ready to go home in a weeks time but after spending the month of April at Oasis Del Mar we did not want to leave. It had become home. Everything you need to be comfy is there and even though my wife has a bit of a handicap we could walk almost everywhere and the pool and suite design really made life simple. If we needed a taxi that was very prompt and unbelievably inexpensive as was everything else, dining out, attractions etc. and although all this is great the very best part of Oasis Del Mar are Chuck and Joanne. They make you feel right at home at all times. They also are a store house of information and share with you any time you want it. We will return very soon and this is where we will stay, it is now home for us in Mexico.

Accommodation is to North American standards, clean and comfortable. The furniture, appliances and cooking aids were in impeccable condition.
The pool area was perfect and so tranquil day and night
Conveniently situated for down town where we found all our food. Loved the fish market.

Wonderful week at Oasis del Mar

Review submitted: September 23, 2009   Date of arrival: August 26, 2009

We had a fabulous time at Oasis del Mar, it was exactly what wanted for our Mexican vacation! The location was great, we could walk to the beach, restaurants, the market and buses to Merida, but still enjoyed peace and quiet at night. The apartment was light and spacious, and the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The pool area was so relaxing, and we took full advantage of the grill and had dinner outside in the evenings.

We especially appreciated the hospitality of our hosts, Joanne and Chuck. They were helpful and knowledgeable about sites in Progreso and Merida, as well as travel to and from the area. They were more than willing to answer questions and gave us lots of local info that wasn't in the tour book. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Shangrila is alive and well at

Hey you (Ajax, Ont. Canada)
Review submitted: April 29, 2009   Date of arrival: October 19, 2008

Lynda & Don - Canada
What more could you possibly ask for in Shangra La.
This was truely our home away from home. All the things you want in your tropical get away from full serviced kitchen, internet, satelitie TV CD player and the list goes on and on. An immacualte pool in a breath taking setting.
Walking distance to all restaurants, shopping and nite life but still the tranquility of the oasis and the security wanted.
Joanne and Chuck were great. They make you feel not only like this is your home but they also make you feel like part of the Progreso community. They are vast storehouses of local knowledge and are there to assist you in any way possible.
We ended up staying for 6 months and probably the best 6 months ever at any place we have stayed.
We can only give them a 10 out 0f 10 for their establishment, assitance and all the little things that complete this wonderful get away.
A big thank you to them for making our stay exactly what we had dreamt it could be.

Blissful Week (Semana Santa 2009) @ Oasis del Mar

artinads (Seattle, WA)
Review submitted: April 19, 2009   Date of arrival: April 3, 2009

My husband & I just spent a blissful week at Oasis del Mar, still glowing from our tans and the hospitality! Joanne & Chuck really took time out of their personal lives to show us around town to get us oriented, as well as helping us to take care of little details that would have taken a lot longer during our (brief) week in Progreso without their assistance. The experience began well before our trip, with Joanne taking time via email to answer many of my trip questions in a timely manner. We felt like we were with family, and can't wait to return someday. Highly recommended!
