Fantastic Family Vacation Experience

Jamie (Brooklyn, NY)
Review submitted: February 20, 2013   Date of arrival: July 7, 2012

This was the perfect place for our family vacation (6 adults, 1 twelve month old). From the pool to the outdoor fireplace, we had every accommodation met for a chill, relaxing vacation. The location was ideal as it's about 30 minutes from Lake George but situated next to a charming town on its own. Highly recommended for a summer getaway in the Lake George area.

New Years Weekend

Review submitted: January 3, 2013   Date of arrival: December 29, 2012

This is a terrific house that accommodated my group of 14 with ease. As it is described, the house is on a small compound with a few other rental houses but they are not on top of each other so you can maintain a sense of privacy. It is cozy and spacious at the same time. A ten minute drive to Gore Mountain. Dealing with Vasili was very pleasant and Dick was extremely helpful getting us set up and it was nice to have him nearby if we ever ran into an issue.

Nice and very clean rental

Review submitted: October 16, 2012   Date of arrival: October 12, 2012

We rented this house with 17 people. The price was competitive compared to similar properties. The owner Vasili and the caretaker Dick were both very nice and helpful. We especially appreciated how Dick set up firewood outside for us ahead of time. Even though the property has other cabins, the house is located in a very private spot.

The house was well-equipped with utensil, pots, etc. Everything inside was very clean. Note that the sleeping spots didn't seem to correspond exactly to the configuration on homeaway --- while there are 17 spots, two of the spots seemed to correspond to a pull-out couch and the rooms were laid out somewhat differently. This was no trouble for us, but I mention it in case it matters to the reader.

In terms of activities, half of us hiked and the other half climbed. In terms of hiking, there are lots of routes close-by and I think this is a really good spot for those kind of activities. However, unless you are equipped with a full set of trad gear and the requisite knowledge, to get to good climbing spots requires at least an hour trip.

Finally, the immediate locale around the cabin is just a wooded area, and is not scenic. This is not necessarily a negative, as the house is not advertised as such, but I just mention that in case someone is really looking for that kind of location.

All in all, a very positive experience, and if you have a large group, this place is well worth a look.

Great Family Getaway

Review submitted: July 30, 2012   Date of arrival: July 14, 2012

Our family stayed at Mill Creek's 5-bedroom house/cabin. We were a combination of all age groups and we all found things to do througout the week we spent there. It is great for kids - swimming pool on premises plus tons of greenery to run around and ride bikes without having to go out of the property. For those that like to cook, the kitchen is very well equiped including two outdoor grills for exclusive use of this cabin. If you like to explore, there are plenty of places to go during the summer - many small and safe public lakes, there is a Garnet Mine and many towns in the immediate area. One of the places we liked most was the Hobby Farm off Route 28, operated by Leslie - the most charming woman you could ever meet. She grows small quantities of produce on her farm that has been in her family for over 100 years. For directions, ask Dick the Mill Creek property manager - who is, by the way, a very amicable and helpful gentleman. Upon our arrival, Dick was extremely helpful, professional and informative. Lake George is a short 25-minute drive from Mill Creek property. We would definitely recommend this vacation rental - a great value for your money.

The owner was extremely nice and accommodating to all our requests. We had a big group stay here and this place felt like we were at home. There is plenty of parking spaces and the bonfire at night feels like a real vacation, very relaxing.

Cozy one bedroom cabin

Review submitted: February 6, 2012   Date of arrival: February 3, 2012

We had a great weekend staying in the one bedroom cabin. It was very clean, exactly what the pictures showed, and the fireplace was nice to have in the winter. We were also able to bring our dog with us, which made a huge difference. There was a nice road/trail within walking distance to the cabin that we hiked on both days. Nice place to let the dog run off leash. The property manager was very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you have a dog. Very accommodating! Thanks for a great weekend.

This home is both rustic and cozy. It has all a group needs for a home-away-from-home type of getaway. The stone fireplace is a great central place for gathering. It's only a few mins. drive away from Gore Mtn.'s skiing, tubing, other snow attractions, and restaurants. Plus, there's a nice fishing stream to stroll beside for a wintery hike. I've stayed at this property several different times and always enjoyed my stay.

Cabins at Mill Creek is a wonderful place!

There was about 22 of us staying in the Kinghead Cabin which is the largest one offered. Every single one of us had enough space for our own personal things. The layout is absolutely perfect- with the common areas (livingroom, dining room, kitchen) area being in the center of the cabin surrounded by 5 bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms is in the master bedroom. We had an AMAZING time! The whole vacation is a unforgetable memory to all of us. It was very laid back, quiet, clean, private and beautiful!

As soon as we arrived, the wonderful property manager Dick had already set up a bunch of chairs around the fire for us, the house was spotless and the tiki-torches filled. For a large group this would be the perfect location to spend your vacation. It took us about 20 minutes to get down to the actual lake, there is a store selling beer, cigarettes and any kind of necessities only 5 minutes away and best of all if you choose to relax by the fire outside with some music on the cabin closest to you couldnt even hear it.

The service really was unbelievable, Dick made sure to accomadate anything we requested and even helped us by lending us tools to set up a birthday sign for a friend of ours. So worth it were definately coming back next year!

A great place to stay

Review submitted: December 1, 2011   Date of arrival: November 10, 2011

I have had the pleasure of several trips to The Cabins at Mill Creek with both family and friends. Everyone has loved the experience. My most recent trip was a stay at Sparrow's Nest, one of several, as always it was most welcoming to arrive and find the place in good order and a nice welcoming letter from Dick, he even leaves the porch light of for us. They are close to Gore Mountain, within a reasonable drive to the attractions in the Lake George area, Indian Lake, Blue Mountain Adirondack Museum, etc. and a must is the 45 min. or so drive to Buttermilk Falls. They are kid and pet friendly which means a lot to vacationing families. North Creek is a short drive to get supplies in town. The new pool this year is WONDERFUL and still they managed to keep the Adirondack charm of the property with a unique free form design and plantings that were beautiful. If you ever need anything, Dick the onsite host and caretaker is always very accommodating, knowledgeable of the area and one of the friendliest I've ever encountered. I would and do quite often and very highly recommend this place. It's not a fancy "Ritz Hotel" type place, but it is a true Adirondack kind with just enough rustic and very friendly atmosphere, and all the amenities you need and then some. Enjoy!!!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving we had!!! The Sparrow's Nest Cabin was perfect for us in so many ways. Clean, spacious, and nicely appointed with nice touches like live plants, and original artwork for decoration. Kitchen was well equipped for a large family meal. On site host Dick was friendly and helpful, we learned what The Adirondacks has to offer! We are tinking strongly of a return visit to use the pool in summer. Sparrow's Nest Cabin made us feel "at home". Lovely experience! We were so pleased to land in such a warm and welcoming setting. Perhhaps Christmas???

Disgusting

Review submitted: November 27, 2011   Date of arrival: August 7, 2011

We stayed in the Sparrow’s Nest and were very disappointed. Our bedroom was disgusting. It smelled musty and had water on the floor every morning. The bathroom was moldy and stinky, as well. We spent the first day buying cleaning supplies and cleaning the entire unit. The living room was awkwardly set up and not comfortable to watch TV and hang out with the family. It also had a musty smell and the chairs needed a good febrese spray. The stove area looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. This place was not very close to any attractions, except Gore Mt. That didn’t help us in the middle of August. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I can’t understand why it got so many good ratings.

This is a nice place, minutes away from Gore Mountain, and not too far from Lake George, for shopping. The caretaker, Dick, is an amiable fellow, and makes certain that you have what you need and that there is ample firewood, as well. The cabins are charming, warm, simple and unpretentious, and make the Adirondak experience especially warm and cozy. I will enjoy making a return trip, in the future.

The weekend was absolutely delightful. I completely enjoyed the cabin, the setting and the fireplace. It was a weekend to unplug from everything, and the Honeymoon Cabin was the perfect spot. And the weather was spectacular for the entire time, not a cloud in the sky, warm, brilliant sunshine...all in mid-November!

Dick was a very gracious and welcoming.host.

I will be back

Thank you for the perfect weekend

I AM FROM NEW YORK CITY AND I HAVE BEEN COMING UP TO THE MILL CREEK CABINS FOR 8 YEARS NOW AND I WOULD NOT STAY ANYWHERE ELSE. I COME UP IN THE FALL TO DO SOME OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND THEN AGAIN IN THE WINTER TO GO SKIING. THE CABINS ARE JUST MINUTES AWAY FROM GORE MOUNTAIN, WHITE WATER RAFTING AND OTHER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE, HOSPITALITY AND CARETAKER DICK ARE SUPERB. I WOULD RECOMMEND THESE CABINS TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A VACATION PLACE TO ENJOY THE OUTDOORS OR JUST GET AWAY FOR A QUITE VACATION.

Perfect for Families and Friends...and their pets!

Amy (Baldwinsville, NY, USA)
Review submitted: September 21, 2010   Date of arrival: August 13, 2010

My family rented this cabin in mid August for a week. The site is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for all of your needs. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the cabin. In the past when I have rented cabins from other companies in the adirondacks, I spent the 1st day cleaning. The area is quiet, even with the cabin located near the road. We were able to bring our 2 very large dogs for the week. A Great Dane and a Mastiff. Both were able to fit comfortably in the cabin along with 7 adults and my cousins small dog! We had a fantastic time. We were immediately greeted by the host, Dick Doux. He was friendly and accomodating to our requests. He promptly responded to our need for a screened door. By promptly, I mean within 10 minutes! Amazing! Dick brought us a load of firewood for our first night so we would not have to go out. By law you cannot bring wood from home. There are several areas near the cabin to purchase additional wood at extremely reasonable rates. This cabin is close to everything you would want in a vacation. Lake George was 25 minutes away for shopping, sight seeing, live music, food and drink. We went to the Great Escape for a day as well. Saratoga race track was just 35 minutes away. There was also a day spent at the outlet centers! I would absolutely recommend this as a vacation site to any of my friends/family. We are already planning a return trip next year! Thanks to Dick Doux for helping to make this a fun and relaxing week for my family! See you next year! :)

Fabulous Place to Host a Family Reunion

Kathy (Tequesta, FL)
Review submitted: July 26, 2010   Date of arrival: July 14, 2010

Every two years my very extended family host a family reunion. This year we had the pleasure of staying at the Cabins of Mill Creek which we truly enjoyed. There were many activities available to us in the surrounding areas which kept "young and old" busy, i.e., Golf, Great Escape Park, Boating on Lake George, strolling through Bolton Landing and visiting the Sagamore Hotel were just a few of the many activities planned. Every evening there was the fire, s'mores and lots of laughing. A big thank you to Dick Doux, caretaker of the property who made this family reunion one we will always remember.

What a great homebase for an Adirondak adventure. We have enjoyed this place as a large group (family reunion, holidays) but have also stayed with our kids and have always had a ball. The grounds are lovely with a great little walk to a beautiful river. Bonfires at night are always a blast. Kings Head is a great place if you want to spread out and the cabins are cozy and intimate. You are close to Lake George and the high peaks are equally accessible. Really a perfect location to enjoy the mountains and you can't feel more well cared for.

Review submitted: July 12, 2010   Date of arrival: June 27, 2010

My family has been coming to these cabins for years, so this year we decided to host our family reunion here. We had a group of about 25 people that came from all across the country. Every single one of us had an amazing time. The cabins are clean, comfortable and fully stocked. The owner (Vasili) and the property manager (Dick) are wonderful and accommodating people, and they made sure we were all well taken care of.
The surrounding area has tons of nearby activities: various hikes, rock climbing, tubing, etc. If you enjoy adventure, but like a nice, quiet, comfortable place to come "home" to, this is the place for you.
