Fabulous Stay!!!!

Review submitted: August 22, 2014   Date of arrival: July 4, 2014

I would like to thank Dirk, the owner, for sharing his beautiful home with me and 4 of my closest friends, The purpose of our visit was to celebrate my 50th birthday. We were looking for a home that would accommodate 6 people comfortably, a private pool, and close to the beach. This lovely home provided us with all that we were desiring. It was nice waking up and having our coffee by the pool and listening to singing birds, sounds of monkeys, and having beautiful view of cliffs and the beach from afar. A ten minute stroll to the beach to have coffee was a nice treat as well.

The property was very clean and provided a washer and dryer, grill, fully furnished kitchen and a lock box for security. It also had 3 bedrooms and to full bathrooms. Gus was there awaiting at the gate upon our arrival to lead us up to the house. He was more than happy to provide us with any information about the house and any tour we were interested in. There are many brochures in the house that can help assemble tours you might be interested in.

I recommend renting a car so you can go explore other beaches and to go into town. I also recommend renting Dirks property if you are wanting more privacy, yet the ability to get in the mix of things.

Owners response: Hi Angie,
Thank you so much for the great review! Glad everyone had a great time and hope you'll call us again when you all are planning your next annual girl's getaway!

Wonderful Family Vacation

Review submitted: May 16, 2014   Date of arrival: March 21, 2014

We spent spring break with our two little ones (ages 5 1/2 and 3) at Casa Manana. The pool was one of the original features that drew us to the property, and it did not disappoint! The pool was by far the kid's favorite part of vacation. We swam every day, sometimes multiple times per day! It was fun to see the iguanas venture out on the rocks during the day, and by the end of the trip, our son had named the frequent iguana visitors - "Iggy", "Jake", "Max" and "Jack" :)
Dirk was so helpful and extremely responsive when booking our trip, talking on the phone and sending pictures and info. The house was perfect for our family. We've been home for almost 2 months now and the kids still keep asking when we're going to back to our "Costa Rica house".
The weather was absolutely perfect while we were in Costa Rica. Sunny every day, no rain, and nice and hot with a warm breeze. The pool was always the perfect temperature too!
We did lots of fun stuff while on vacation, including exploring the local beaches, a catamaran sunset and snorkeling cruise, river boat tour, and Miravailles volcano tour. All were well worth the time and money!
The kitchen at Casa Manana was well stocked and we ate all our breakfasts and most of our lunches at the house. I loved that there were even spices to cook with!
An extra perk of the house was having the free wi-fi and long distance phone. We had a little hiccup with our daughter getting sick, so we had to make a few phone calls to our doctor back home. It was a relief being able to call home so easily.
All in all, it was a great vacation, and it felt so comfortable staying in Casa Manana! Thank you, Dirk and Lisa!

Owners response: Hey Megan & Scott,
Thank you so much for the great review!!! It was a pleasure visiting with you both as well! Glad you guys all had a big time and please let us know when you're ready to head back down to your Costa Rica house:) We're actually taking our kids down for a (last hooray) week this summer before our oldest heads off to college. Take care and thanks again! PURA VIDA!!!

Great Vacation! Great House!

Review submitted: March 12, 2014   Date of arrival: February 8, 2014

Our family of 7 (4 adults/3 kiddos) had a great time in Costa Rica! Dirk and Lisa’s house (Casa Manana) was very clean and comfortable, fully equipped with all the essentials (even spices in the kitchen) and made for the perfect location to explore the area. The first couple of days were mostly spent on the beautiful Playa Hermosa beach...kids loved the snow cone vendors J There are some nice shaded areas, but you’ll want to bring your sunscreen if you plan on staying for the day. Also, really enjoyed the outdoor patio and pool at the house...the gas grill was a bonus. During our trip, we decided to drive up to the mountains of Rincon de la Viejo to a place called Vandara Hot Springs. You’ve got to do this if you’re going to be in the area....it’s about an hour and a half from the house. For around $80 a head, we went horseback riding, did the zip line/canopy tour, flew down a ¼ mile long water slide (kind of scary), relaxed in a hot natural spring swimming pool, did the volcanic mud rub AND had a fantastic all organic lunch...best day ever! The last couple of days, we ended up visiting some of the other nearby beach towns (Playa Coco, Playa Flamingo and Playa Tamarindo). Everyone enjoyed the excursions, but the general consensus was that we had made the right decision to stay in Playa Hermosa.
Also wanted to add that Dirk (the owner) was extremely helpful. He spent a good deal of time visiting on the phone with us and sent additional information, a concierge package and photos of the neighborhood and beach. Guss (the concierge/property manager) was great as well! When we first arrived at the gate, he introduced us to the guard, took us up to the house, showed us around and answered all of our questions. It was nice knowing Guss was just a phone call away if we needed anything or had other questions. All in all we had a fantastic time in Costa Rica and we would definitely recommend staying at Casa Manana!!!

Owners response: Hey Pat,
Thank you so much for all the kind words and glad you and your family enjoyed your vacation! Please keep in touch and let us know when you guys are interested in heading down again.

Absolutely fantastic!

Review submitted: October 19, 2013   Date of arrival: September 28, 2013

Firstly, I would like to say that from my very first contact, Dirk was brilliant. Always very prompt at answering emails and a couple of times he even phoned me in the UK, which I really appreciated. He even colluded with a friend of mine from Memphis to arrange a surprise visit....that made my holiday, thanks Dirk :-)

The house was exactly as described and had everything you need to make your stay comfortable. There were 8 of us, and we never felt cramped. Like one of the previous reviewers, we also like to eat together, so when we wanted to eat inside, we just brought in the outside table...no problem.

One of the best features has to be the pool, which is beautifully maintained. We made ourselves a net and played water volleyball daily, which was so much fun.

The staff are lovely. Guss is extremely helpful and always on hand should any problems occur. The groundsman Gordo, is a legend, so friendly. He popped by daily and even though we speak little or no Spanish, we got on so well and laughed a lot together.

We went in "green" season and I am so glad we did. The surrounding area was lush and we prefer it with fewer tourists. There's plenty to do in the surrounding area. If you like adventure, it's a haven.

I would highly recommend both Dirk, his property and the area. One of the best holidays we have had in a long time!

Owners response: Hey Suzie, You're the best!!! Thanks for the great review and so glad you guys enjoyed your stay at Casa Manana. I'll be sure and pass on your compliments to Guss and Gordo...they'll really appreciate the kind words:) Thanks again and hopefully we'll be hearing from you again!

A Great Week at Casa MaƱana

Review submitted: September 9, 2013   Date of arrival: August 17, 2013

We had an amazing week at Casa Mañana. There were 8 of us and the house was plenty spacious for four older adults, two young adults and two teenagers. We drove from San Jose and (of course) the drive was longer than we expected) but once we got there we were treated to a house that was so comfortable and had practically everything we needed. We especially liked the great views, the warm pool with waterfall and the constant stream of birds and lizards that greeted us on the patio.

Playa Hermosa is a wonderful beach, calm, beautiful, not at all crowded. We also spent time snorkeling at Ocatel Beach just a few miles south of Hermosa.

We had two weeks in CR and spent the first here with our four children and mother-in-law and father-in-law. We all zip lined, went fishing with Captain Al, went rafting and some of us played golf nearby. We did a lot of cooking and had a lot of wonderful family time.

We really were impressed with how well equipped the house was and how close to restaurants, markets and the beach we were. Our only complaint was that the dining room table only sat 4. We are a family that loves to eat together so this was a bit challenging for to have to separate the group into those sitting at the counter and those sitting at the table.

Thanks Dirk for having such a great vacation house. We will absolutely be returning.

Owners response: Hey Tom,
Thank you so much for the great review!!! Glad you and your family enjoyed our home and surrounding sites...sounds like guys had a big time! Thanks again and let me know when you're ready to head back down.

Awesome view- Great house

Review submitted: August 13, 2013   Date of arrival: June 27, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Manana.
The information that Dirk provided before our stay was a great planning tool for our vacation.
When we arrived Gus was there to greet us and show us around the house, answered all of our questions and got us started on our vacation.
Coffee on the patio next to the pool and overlooking the ocean every morning was a great start to the day.
The house was large enough to allow six adults and one toddler plenty of space of their own.
The house came with all of the ammenities needed i.e. washer, dryer, dishwasher to make our stay comfortable.
We would definetly recommend Casa Manan as "The place to stay" while visiting Costa Rica.

Owners response: Hey Jim,
Thank you so much for the great review! Glad everyone enjoyed our home and please let us know when you and your family are ready to head back down.

Wonderful

Review submitted: July 4, 2013   Date of arrival: June 22, 2013

10 min walk to beach. Nice view, but wished shrubs were cut a little lower so that view could be seen while sitting instead of standing. House had everything you would need (such as dish and laundry detergent, plastic wrap, foil, dishes, etc.) Kids loved the pool and waterfall feature. Guss was wonderful and spoke good English (Thank you.) Some things either we couldn't figure out or were not working (microwave, both air conditioners in main room, DVD player.) Liked the men working gate, they were good natured about the amount of times we went in and out. We went to Tamarindo and did the CR buggy tours which were dune buggies. This was by far the best tour we took. They took us to six beaches that were all so different from each other. Tour was four hours and cost Three hundred Fifty for 5 of us. We also went down on Hermosa beach and used a local to catch fish and take us snorkeling for One hundred Fifty for 3 hours. Lastly we did the adventure tour for Eighty pp, which was great. It included horses, tubing, zip lining, and mud/hot spring. Overall this home was centrally located and met all our needs.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Hi Christie,
It sounds like you guys had an action packed 5 days! I just spoke to Guss and Tim (our property managers) concerning some of your comments. Having had 79 (5 Star) reviews, it's extremely important to all of us that everyone really enjoys their stay. The bougainvillea is typically trimmed to maximize privacy as well as the ocean view, but Guss has asked Gordo (our landscape guy) to cut it back just a little more. He said with the recent rains, it may have gotten a little higher than normal. Unfortunately the descriptions on our new microwave are all in Spanish. As far as the DVD player, to our knowledge it works fine...you do need to have the TV on input 1 in order to watch a DVD. Also, Guss told me that the remote control you were using for the 2 air conditioners (in the den & kitchen) was set at 31 Celsius (87 degrees Fahrenheit) and that's why they didn't seem to be cooling. Those remote controls can be a little confusing, but I've asked Guss to have the AC guys come by just to double check all the units. Thanks for your feedback and for staying with us!
Take care!

Amazing!!

Review submitted: May 20, 2013   Date of arrival: May 12, 2013

We spent 5 days here and it was AMAZING, we had everything we needed at this house. The pool was great we enjoyed it very much. In the mornings and evenings you hear the monkeys near. Its a very safe and secured property with many things to do around town. Our whole family had a hard time leaving, we will definitely stay here again and highly recommend Casa Mañana to all. We had the best vacation ever.

Dirk thank you so much for everything, you made everything easy and we are extremely happy to have stayed at your home. Thanks again...Miriam Soriano and family.

Paradise in Playa Hermosa

Review submitted: May 11, 2013   Date of arrival: April 12, 2013

We arrived to this beautiful house after a short drive from the Liberia airport. We already had all the pertinent information from the owner, Dirk, who went the extra mile providing tips about restaurants and sightseeing. The house is beautiful, in impecable shape, and we were greeted by Gus, who briefed us on all the features available. Beautiful landscape, privacy, a grill and the pool, all appreciated. Easy walk to the beach, spectacular sunsets, no rain. We drove to busier beaches, like Flamingo and El Conchal, but Hermosa is the place if you want to enjoy a quiet time with family. We would recommend this house without any hesitation whatsoever.

Owners response: Hi Andrea & Eduardo,
Thank you so much for your terrific review! We're glad you and your family had a great time and enjoyed our home.

Wonderful, relaxing retreat

Review submitted: May 3, 2013   Date of arrival: April 23, 2013

We recently spent 5 nights here while attending a wedding nearby. The home was very well equipped with everything we needed.(AC!!) The pool and patio were so pretty and fun for all ages. We had our 2 grandchildren (one and three) who spent many hours in the pool and relaxing on the patio. We loved getting up early to view and hear the birds. Most mornings we also heard the monkeys in the distance. We even got to view them from the front driveway. The 4 bedrooms were comfortable and the living\kitchen space allowed everyone to be together. The washer and dryer came in handy too. Short walk to the beach. The gated community felt safe and secure. It really is as pretty as the photos you see. Dirk was very available to answer all our questions. A very smooth vacation for our family of 8. We have brought home many wonderful memories of Casa Manana.

Owners response: Hi Karen & Gerhard,
Thank you for the kind words and so glad you and your family had a great vacation!

Great get-away!

Review submitted: April 15, 2013   Date of arrival: April 1, 2013

We had a great time at Casa Manana (family with 2 teenagers). The house was clean and convenient, and the pool was so great. Love the grill out on the patio. The location is great, you can walk to the beach and to restaurants, even to the supermarket if you don't mind a longer walk. I'm familiar with many beaches in Costa Rica but Playa Hermosa has to be one of the best. Dirk was very nice to deal with, Guss took great care of us and everything was easy. Hope to be able to return.

Owners response: Hi Katherine,
Thanks for the nice review and so glad you and your family enjoyed our home & our little neighborhood! My wife and I traveled all around Costa Rica for years before deciding to build in Playa Hermosa. We just love it there as well:)

Lovely!

Review submitted: March 19, 2013   Date of arrival: February 18, 2013

We had a lovely stay at Casa Manana. Dirk was more than helpful with all of our questions and inquiries before our arrival. Guss was great help during our stay and Tim and his wife were more than generous for help with "baby-type supplies" for use during our stay.
The house is wonderful - all you need is there. It was great for us (2 families each with young children - one 7 month old and 1 year and a half). We were able to cook breakfast and any other meals we wanted. Everything we needed was in the house, and we picked up groceries in the town down the road and did 1 larger shop in Coco at the bigger store.
The beach is 10 minutes from the house by foot (about a 3 minute drive). Easy to do with the babies, and it is a lovely beach (we saw 2 other nearby beaches but Hermosa was by far the best beach).
If you don't want to be by the beach the pool at the house is lovely, and you can watch the hummingbirds feed off the flowers in the morning. In the afternoon you can watch the iguanas come by to sun themselves on the rocks. In the evening you can hear the howlers "barking" in the hillside. (If you're lucky you can find them at the beach hanging out in the trees lounging! We didn't see them at Hermosa, but we did see them at Ocotal)
The house we perfect for us and the other couple we stayed with - plenty of room for the babies to play, and lots of space for us to enjoy ourselves after the kids are asleep! Perfect distance to nearby national parks (we went to Rincon de la Vieja), an animal sanctuary (Las Pumas), snorkeling off the beach (Playa Ocotal) etc.
Ginger - a restaurant right around the corner from the house - was delicious. Really you can get the best of both worlds staying here - beach and forest hiking.
The grounds keepers and the guard at the gate were all very friendly.
Only positive things to say about Dirk, our stay, and Hermosa! We would definitely stay here again in the future.
Thanks Dirk (Guss and Tim!)!

Owners response: Hi Barbara,
It was such a pleasure visiting with you and your husband and thank you sooo much for all the kind words!!! Really glad you guys had a great time and were able to get out (with the babies) and experience both the mountains and the beaches. I'll be sure and tell Guss and Tim you all appreciated their help as well.
Take care and hopefully we'll be hearing from you guys again!

Wonderful Guanacaste Retreat

Review submitted: March 18, 2013   Date of arrival: March 8, 2013

Our family of four, including a 9 year old girl and 11 year old boy, had a wonderful time in Playa Hermosa. Casa Manana made a perfect base for exploring the area. We split our time between the usual - zipline, volcano, horseback riding; and lazy days at the beach or at the house. Oodles of space (two families could have split), great location.

Owners response: Hey Brian,
Thanks for the nice review and so glad you and your family had a good trip! Look forward to talking to you about next year's visit.

All I can say is WOW. Casa Manana was the perfect spot for our birthday celebration get-way. Horse back ride in the rain forest to the natural steam bath and hot springs, snorkling, reasonably prices restaurants - all close by. Thanks Dirk for the bargain lodging and making it so easy for my wife, daughter and I to have a wonderful time.

Owners response: Hey Rob,
So glad you guys had a good trip and thanks for the glowing review!

Great Vacation

Review submitted: December 18, 2012   Date of arrival: November 18, 2012

We spent Thanksgiving week here and liked it very much. The house is fantastic. Comfortable, spacious, well-equipped, and with a layout that provided us all with privacy when we wanted it. The open-air patio with the swimming pool is awesome especially when you have kids. Owners were very helpful and responsive prior to and after booking. There is a caretaker who can help if necessary. He was there when we arrived and when we were leaving. Having two phones, one for the calls to the US and one for local was a great convenience. There is nothing about this house I can criticize and we would rent it again. I most definitely recommend it.

Owners response: Hey Marek,
Thanks for the nice review and I'm glad you guys enjoyed the house & pool. I hope you and your family has a wonderful holiday!!!

Awesome House in Playa Hermosa!

Review submitted: November 17, 2012   Date of arrival: September 1, 2012

I stayed at Casa Mañana for 7 Days in early September, and it is absolutely Awesome! There are great restaurants nearby, including a Tapas place and great hotel restaurants. The house was amazing! We spent a lot of time on the porch grilling and swimming in the pool, and the view was better than the pictures show. We were also with two other couples, and the size of the house and property was very good. We could've easily added another couple to the trip comfortably. The beach, just a 5-10 min walk! We traveled around a lot to different beaches, and kept coming back to Playa Hermosa, as it was by far the best. Aside from the great environment and view, the owners and the property manager were the most accommodating I have ever had at a vacation rental property. They knew where everything was, and were available by phone whenever we had a question, or needed some guidance. If you're considering a stay at Casa Mañana you should definitely do it. Great owners, great location, great service.

Owners response: Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for all the kind words and really glad you guys all had a great time! Keep in touch and give us a call when you're ready to head back down again.

Amazing Vacation Home

Review submitted: September 9, 2012   Date of arrival: August 19, 2012

If you want to have a grand vacation then this is the house to rent. From day one I felt comfortable with the whole transaction with the owner (Derek). The staff was amazing and the home was over the top. It felt like being home but only for the gorgeous scenery of Costa Rica. If I had to do it all over I would rent this house a million times over. It wa clean, very roomy and comfortable. The free internet and free long distance was the best to keep in touch with our loved ones. The pool was amazing and in the evenings the sunset took your breath away. The home was very secure and the beaches were a short ride away. Quite and a retreat in heaven. Loved loved loved this home and its surroundings. Congrats to the owners! Hope to see you again in 2 years......................

Beautiful Home

Review submitted: July 31, 2012   Date of arrival: July 7, 2012

My husband, two children ( 7 and 16) spend 5 days in this house a couple weeks ago. The house is beautiful very comfortable and clean. The view is amazing.
The owners are very nice and easy to deal with. They go the extra mile to make sure your stay is perfect. The property manager is great. We had to call him a couple times because we notice that the wasp were building a nest in one of the fans. There were hundreds of them in a matter of hours. He came within 5 mimutes and solved the problem :). (My 7 year old loved seing them).
In the backyard you will see butterflies, colorful birds, will hear the monkeys and if you explore a little we found two bats in the wall of a neighboor house.
They have tons of family movies and books. (Thanks for sharing them).
If you stay here visit Hacienda Guachipelin ( tons of fun).
We loved the house and our stay. Thanks for letting us use your lovely home.

Owners response: Hi Ariadna,
Thanks for the nice review and glad you and the kids had a good stay. We actually just came back from CR ourselves and this time did a lot of the touristy things - canopy tour, horseback riding, mud baths, thermal baths, etc. Our kids had a blast!!! Next time you guys get down, you have to visit Vandara Adventure Park up in the mountains of Rincon de le Vieja. It's only an hour's drive from the house and absolutely beautiful. Thanks again and hope to hear from you guys soon.

Beautiful Hermosa!! Beautiful House!!

Review submitted: May 15, 2012   Date of arrival: May 5, 2012

Our family of 4 just returned from our stay at Playa Hermosa and we loved Casa Manana! It was very clean, large living areas, well appointed and down right comfortable. We loved the beach of Playa Hermosa and the clear water. But I must admit, our kids loved waking up and going out by the pool to read and take a dip. Our best meals were at Gingers although we had many great fish and seafood dinners from Tamarindo to Playa Hermosa. We would drive to a different beach each day and eat dinner at the beach we visited. The river ride at Corobici was fantastic. Our guide showed us birds, monkeys, lizzards and even a crocodile! The cloud forest was fantastic as well. ANd the kids loved zip lining. My husband and I opted for the hanging bridges.

We all had a wonderful time at Casa Manana and want to thank Dirk and Lisa for sharing their awesome house with us. Also a thanks to Guss for the great info he provided upon our arrival. If you chose to go to Costa Rica, we highly recommend Casa Manana!

Perfect home for a family holiday

Review submitted: April 26, 2012   Date of arrival: March 26, 2012

We stayed at Casa Manana for 5 nights in March (too bad it couldn't have been longer) and would highly recommend this beautiful home-away-from home. Our family of six was very comfortable and enjoyed the many bedrooms, bathrooms and couches at our disposal. The house was clean, modern and ready for our arrival. I must brag about the tupperware drawer...it was almost as well stocked as our drawer at home! Loved the option to take snack food and fresh fruit with us every time we headed to the beach. Gus, the property manager, was resourceful and directed us to many local activities/attractions and Dirk, the owner, was always pleasant to deal with. Oh...and the pool - a must for the hot temperatures! It was very refreshing.
Thanks for everything!

Absolutely Wonderful!

Review submitted: April 5, 2012   Date of arrival: March 5, 2012

My husband & I and out two children (6&7) stayed at Casa Manana for 6 nights in early March. Coming from the rain & rustic quarters of our place near Volvan Arenal, the house was a little piece of heaven! Being that there were only 4 of us, we had plenty of space. Each child had their own room, which made for easier bed times! The house is gorgeous and comfortable. The kids began calling it "home" which was sweet. We spent a lot of time out by the pool and on the porch area. We appreciated the pool toys & the childrens life vests (our kids can swim fairly well, but they added the comfort when we didn't want to be in the pool with them). The howler monkeys across the road were loads of fun to watch (loud!). The location is great for getting around the area to see the sights! We prefer to cook our own food (the grill at the house was great!), so the large grocery store in Playas del Coco was perfect. We drove to Playa Conchal (take the highway, not the back roads!) for a beautiful day on the beach and Tamarindo for lunch (touristy). Our favorite day was driving up to Parque Nacional Rincon del la Vieja and hiking the Las Pailas trail - stunning. On the way back we stopped in for a volcanic mud bath (even the kids!) at a local spa which was such a treat. On our last night we went on a sunset cruise through a place in Coco (Marlin, I think),through Guss, which was spendy and ended up not being set-up for kids at all. The snorkeling part was simply green water-nothing to see. We still enjoyed it through the eyes of our kids and the sunset was amazing. One surprise was how dry everything in the area is at that time of year. There were a lot of fires up in the hills and everything was pretty brown. TIPS: We absolutely recommend a 4X4 and a GPS. Roads are not always named or marked and can be very bumpy! Also, do not rent a car from Dollar in San Jose. We rented one well in advance & secured with a credit card only to have them say they didn't have one when we arrived. Thanks to a great concierge at the San Jose Hoiday Inn Express we were able to locate one (at 2X the price we planned to pay!). Thanks Dirk for your wonderful house and amazing attention to your customers. We always felt that assistance was just a call away! I would recommend this house to anyone!!

Owners response: Hi Amy,
Thanks so much for the great review! So glad you guys enjoyed our home and had such a great adventure. Hope the Howlers didn't get you out of bed too early...it is surprising to hear that much volumn coming out of such a little monkey. We also love going up to Rincon de la Vieja for the day. Beautiful scenery and a nice break from the hot afternoons at the beach. From the looks of things, you didn't have much down time so hopefully you've gotten a chance to rest up from your vacation. Anyway, thanks again and let us know when you and your family would like to come back down.

Review submitted: November 16, 2011   Date of arrival: October 13, 2011

“Casa Mañana” is the perfect house, in the perfect beach and in the perfect country in Central America! It comes equipped with EVERYTHING you would ever need during a short or long stay at a beach house, and leaving it is always very hard! I have stayed there with friends and family twice this past year and the views and ease of location can’t be beat. The house is spotless inside and out, and the pool and patio are our favorite part of the house. It’s a MUST see and the owner, Dirk, is great! He responds quickly and ensures your stay is easy and hassle free from start to finish. I am already planning on returning at least 3 more times in 2012.

Owners response: Hey Gina,
You're the BEST!! Thanks so much for your kind words and look forward to having you and your family back anytime!

Wonderful Home Away From Home

Review submitted: September 10, 2011   Date of arrival: August 12, 2011

This was my mom & mine's first trip to Costa Rica and the first time I had ever made a home reservation over the internet. I was pretty concerned, imagining all the things that could go wrong. Let me tell you, it was one of the best choices we made in scheduling our trip! Right from the beginning Dirk was quick to respond to my inquires and great at answering all the questions I could think of. And this was before we had even arrived!!!
We flew into San Jose so we could see other parts of Costa Rica during our two week stay. But the Liberia airport will be where we fly into next time, it is amazingly close. Just 20 minutes and four turns away:-). The directions to the house Dirk provided were very easy to follow and we had no difficulties finding the community.
We arrived to a beautiful home set in a quiet community with a gorgeous view (I can't tell you how many sunset pictures I have). We used the house as a base to explore the area. During the trip we saw national parks, many beaches, did zip-line tours and snorkeling and fishing tours. At the end of each day when we came back it felt like we were coming home. Our week stay at the home flew by & we were sad to be leaving. But we will definitely be returning! Please let Gus know that we appreciated all his help. He is an awesome concierge! And we want to thank you, Dirk & Lisa, for letting us use your home. Thank you!

Pura Vida!

Review submitted: August 23, 2011   Date of arrival: June 28, 2011

It has been 31 days since my family and I left Casa Manana, the goal of our vacation was to be a family free of cell phones, and the daily rat race. From the moment we arrived in Liberia we knew that we were in for a life altering adventure, Dirk, Lisa and Guss were a tremendous help with all of our planning and answered every question that we had. We were blessed to of been on a vacation that enabled us the best of both worlds, home cooked meals with the opportunity to enjoy several of the wonderful restaurants within the area. Each morning we were greeted by an orchestra of birds and howler monkeys, then around two in the afternoon the waterfall would begin and we would be beckoned to an afternoon of lounging in and around the pool. There is not enough space within this review to express the rich greens of the foliage, the scents the pure clean air, the exhilaration of driving the roads, the feel of the foliage, the kindness of the people, the varying hues of the ocean and the sky, the flavors of the food, and the opportunity to truly live a pura vida. We are already planning to return for a longer period in 2012, therefore, we definitely recommend this home away from home to all. Once again, thank you Dirk, Lisa, and Guss!

The best house we stayed at by far...

Review submitted: June 15, 2011   Date of arrival: May 28, 2011

We recently stayed at Casa Manana during a two week vacation to Costa Rica with two grandmas, ourselves and our two children ages 3 and 4. Everything leading up to our stay was easy and reassuring. Dirk was helpful and the process of securing the home was the least complicated of the three homes we rented. Upon arrival, Gustavo (Gus, who speaks English) was the best propery manager we could have asked for. Very knowledgeable and available for whatever we needed. The house itself was very nice. Lots of space and privacy. The pool was beautiful and great fun for the kids. They also really enjoyed the toys, kids videos and body boards for the beach that were available for our use. There were also big and high quality beach towels that were an added convenience, we used ours at the beach and kept those for the pool which helped out on reducing sand everywhere. The area was very nice. Playa Hermosa is quiet and close. Playa Coco was great for shopping and restaurant choices, but less inviting at the beach which had a board walk under construction and wasn't as clean as other beaches we visited. The Congo Trail was the best family experience we had on the zip-line tour. The staff were friendly and the price very affordable ($35) per person. We also highly recommended the hour drive to Playa Conchal, which was the most beautiful place we visisted. The entire beach is full of shells, no sand and clear blue water. We cooked mostly at home and shopped in Playa Coco, although there is a store also near the home. Food was more expensive than we had anticipated, but still much cheaper than eating out, especially for a group our size. Overall, this house was the best end to our family vacation. We loved having free international calls to family in the US as well as local service. Dirk and his family take extra special care of this home and in making sure that the guests have everything they need during their stay. Dirk even called us upon our arrival to make sure everything was okay. For someone who might be hesitant about renting a home in another country through the internet, rest assured that you will find confidence in Dirk. His contract, the explicit details regarding the house and all its functions...again far surpassed the other two homes we stayed at. Flying into Liberia airport is ideal, however, we went through San Jose and drove up which was about a 4 hour drive, not bad, and very scenic. Thanks Dirk and Gustavo for everything!

Owners response: Hey Desiree,
Thanks so much for all your kind words and glad you guys had a good trip. I'll be sure and pass on your comments to Guss as well. I know he'll really appreciate it! We're already packing and getting excited for our family trip down soon. Thanks again for you suggestions on the few things I should bring down for our casa. Seems we're always bringing a couple of additional suitcases full of more knick knacks for the house. Let me know about the toys for your new Costa Rican friends...I'll be glad to take care of that for you. Keep in touch and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks,
Dirk

Loved this comfy and relaxing home away from home! Can't wait to go back!

Review submitted: June 14, 2011   Date of arrival: May 6, 2011

After sending an email to Dirk through VRBO late one evening, he got back to me first thing the next morning with a phone call to answer all of my questions in preparation for our FIRST TRIP to Costa Rica. The beautiful pool and patio had me interested, but knowing we would have the speedy response of the property owner sold us on the place. It was only my husband and I - but the house could comfortably accommodate 3 couples or a large family. The house is located in the gated Palo Alto community (24/7 security-attended) in Playa Hermosa - felt very safe coming and going. If you aren’t into AI’s or hotels, vacation rentals are a fantastic option, and often the same price as a hotel, but with the ability to shop for groceries and save a little money and feel like you are at HOME. The house has dishes, pots & pans, EVERYTHING you will need to stay in and cook - if you choose to do so.

This villa has a private pool with a waterfall (back massager!), very good A/C, lots of room, tons of beach towels, a beautiful kitchen and patio, comfy beds, nice bathrooms, HUGE couches, reliable WIFI, and a VOIP phone to use to call US or Canada free. It was nice having all of that room to ourselves to stretch out and relax indoors or out. There are ceiling fans on the patio that are lovely to have in the hot evenings. You might even see some Howler Monkeys nearby, we had a few staying at a neighboring property and that was a treat (after initially being startled and not knowing what that "sound" was!)

Playa Hermosa is a great base-point for traveling in this area. We visited several parks and beaches within a two-hour drive max. You can't beat the sunsets on the patio here and it's so much more private than the hotels. Thanks, Dirk! You will be hearing from us again soon!

Owners response: Hi Chris & Vanessa,
You're too good! I really appeciate all the beautiful photos you sent us earlier and of course all the wonderful comments just now. Lisa and I really enjoyed reading your post on Trip Advisor as well. I would highly reccommend everyone check it out...there's so much great information and written beautifully. We're definitely going to do the cave descent on our next visit...really sounds like a bucket list thing to do. Well, it looks like you guys had an amazing time and hope now that you're back home you can get some rest. Give us a shout again when you feel the need to scale mountains, swim in waterfalls or explore other caves 70' under ground.
Thanks again!!

Beautiful!

Review submitted: April 27, 2011   Date of arrival: April 1, 2011

A group of 8 of us booked this house for our one week stay in Costa Rica, we looked around extensively and Dirk offered us a great price and was very helpful with information about the area, and things to do and see.
We had a particularly rough first day, but when we finally arrived at the house, all the troubles of the day just melted away!
The pool was gorgeous and the pictures posted on the site do not do the house justice. The house is beautiful and well equipped with everything you need for your stay, including flashlights - which you'll need if you're walking about town after the sun goes down!
I would definitely recommend renting a vehicle for the duration of your stay. I also highly recommend eating at any of the restaurants on the beach - so good! And very comparable in price to eating out in North America.
And if you're an early riser - keep your ears open for howler monkey's in the trees by the house, they're quite chatty!
Thanks Dirk and Guss, we had a wonderful trip - despite the not so wonderful beginning! The Welcome Massages were just what we needed!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway

Owners response: Hey Brent,
Thanks a lot for your kind words and glad you guys enjoyed our home. Hope the howler monkeys didn't get you out of bed too early...Take care and thanks once again for staying at our place.

A true home away from home!

Review submitted: January 11, 2011   Date of arrival: December 19, 2010

My family and I recently enjoyed a fantastic 10 day Christmas vacation at the wonderful home Casa Manana in Playa Hermosa. As a group of 6 adults and 3 children we certainly needed a vacation home with location, amentities, activities and of course proximity to the beach! Casa Manana was the perfect spot and provided all of this! We enjoyed the house and great location - and Dirk was fantastic in helping us with a unforgetable vacation!
You will not be disappointed, the listing and description does not do the house justice and we would highly recommend the house to our friends and family - which of course we already have.
My family and I enjoyed the pool with great view of the ocean, a really great patio for cooking and the clean and well kept house and yard. This is a very nice secure and family orientated location that allows easy access from the Liberia airport and close proximity to all the beaches, restaurants, grocery store and libations! Playa Hermosa and the nearby Playa De Coco has everything you will need no matter what your pursuits are. And make sure you try the ceviche on the beach!!
Thank you Dirk for the genuine help! and of course to Gus whom is the most friendly and helpful guy when its comes to direction on activities or anything you might need while enjoying your stay at the house.
We will be sure to stay at Casa Manana again when returning to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

What an amazing find!

Review submitted: December 3, 2010   Date of arrival: November 17, 2010

We loved staying at Casa Manana for many reasons. The house is beautiful, clean and spacious. The location is excellent and about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the beach. The owner, Dirk, is extraordinarily helpful and pleasant and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed in advance and during our stay. The person who manages the property in Costa Rica was always available to answers questions, make sure we were completely satisfied, and guide us for finding the right people to help plan our "tourist" related desires. It was an amazing experience to visit Costa Rica and our family loved staying at this home.

Best in Costa Rica

Review submitted: October 25, 2010   Date of arrival: October 8, 2010

I highly recommend 'Casa Manana' if you are looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to spend your vacation. The house is amazing and lives up to every word in the description. The owners are very gracious and accommodating. Always asking how they could be of help.
Playa Hermosa is centrally located so you can go on day adventures with no problem. It was wonderful to be able to come back to the house throw some burgers on the grill and jump into the pool. We felt like we were at home. There is plenty to do in Playa Hermosa and in the surrounding beaches. We did not go see the sea turtles at night but are going to put that on the list for next time. We are lookingf orward to returning someday and enjoying this house again!
Thank you Dirk and Lisa! You helped make our vacation wonderful!

Casa Manana Cannot Be Beat

Review submitted: September 10, 2010   Date of arrival: August 19, 2010

We just returned from spending 5 wonderful days in Casa Manana. There were seven of us and we had the best time. The house is extremely comfortable and private. Dirk & Lisa provided everything you could possibly need all you have to do is show up with your bathing suit. The house has a beautiful ocean view and the pool is great.
I have relatives in Costa Rica and we have rented in Guanacaste before and Casa Manana beats all the other places. It is centrally located allowing you to go to a number of different beaches each day but coming home to Casa Manana is great.
The owners Dirk & Lisa were great with both information and and great customer service.
We ate at Ginger's and loved it but we also loved barbecuing at the house.
I would highly recommend this house to anyone and plan on returning.

Our Casa Manana Experience was Perfect!

Review submitted: August 5, 2010   Date of arrival: July 17, 2010

I Recently booked our first stay in a vacation home, instead of our usual American type resort or European bed and breakfast. Skeptical as I was, I could not have been more pleased. We ended up with eleven family members instead of eight (daughter-in-law and three extra grand kids) and we still had plenty of room in this beautiful, spacious house. We found the home to be centrally located as we visited Manuel Antonio in the south and Monteverde/Arenal area in the north. From the property, we could walk to the local grocery for the best pastry this side of Paris, the beaches were close and perfect for the kids and the shopping in nearby Playa Coco is close and convenient. The owner was so very helpful with invaluable information that was extremely useful for anyone traveling to Costa Rica for the first time and Gus the caretaker was always just a phone call away if you needed him. The house has great perks like being able to call back to the states for free, maid service, beach towels, cable tv. and vcr/dvd player. The kids loved the pool with a waterfall and the beds were very comfortable. It was nice to be able to get up for a late night snack, mix a rum drink or relax and play cards with the family and still be able to retreat to our rooms when we wanted alone time. I would defininitely recommend Casa Manana at Playa Hermosa to anyone wanting to spend time in Costa Rica.

Great place to relax

This property is very relaxing and peaceful, with all the amenities of home. We walked to Hermosa Beach (approximately 10 minutes away), drove to nearby beaches for dinner, SWAM AND PLAYED A LOT in the awesome waterfall pool. We bought groceries and cooked breakfast at home to save a little $. This rental is a great value, and the property management and owners are only a phone call away.

8 amazing days at Casa Manana

Review submitted: April 14, 2010   Date of arrival: April 2, 2010

We just returned from 8 amazing days at Casa Manana. The house and pool are beautiful! It has everything you need for a stress free vacation. Dirk was great to work with booking the house. Gus, who manages the property in Costa Rica was super friendly and helpful. I was trying to book a safari tour and had trouble contacting the place so he came over and called the company for me and gave me directions. He also gave us other great suggestions of places to visit and eat at. The cleaning staff was great. They came every other day to clean and wash the sheets and towels. It was so nice to have someone come in and sweep and clean things up. They were also very friendly. There is a gorgeous view of the ocean from the pool. The pool is surrounded by beautiful flowering bushes that humming birds feed from everyday. In the morning on the patio you can hear the howler monkeys calling. I felt complete safe in the home and in Costa Rica. The people were so friendly and gracious. I would highly recommend this home!

Wonderful Stay at Casa Manana

Review submitted: April 10, 2010   Date of arrival: March 25, 2010

Our family recently had a wonderful trip to Costa Rica and enjoyed superb accommodations at Casa Manana. Playa Hermosa is a great destination in Costa Rica, close and convenient (within 2 hours) from many day trip destinations - including river tours, zip lines and volcanoes - not to mention the beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. The house is beautiful, close to the beach, nicely furnished, comfortable, spacious and well-stocked with towels and other necessities. We had everything we needed. Our extended family of nine (including three children) absolutely loved the convenient location of Casa Manana and it made a nice and comfortable home to come back to after a day of adventure, a lazy day on the beach or a fantastic dinner and evening stroll on Playas del Coco. Our concierge, Guss, was extremely nice, helpful and responsive to our needs. Dirk, the owner of Casa Manana, was also wonderful to work with. We feel very fortunate to have found Dirk and Casa Manana. Our stay there was truly amazing and if we are lucky enough to have the opportunity for a return visit to Costa Rica, would not hesitate to call Dirk and arrange another stay at his beautiful home in Playa Hermosa. We recommend Casa Manana highly.

Great place to stay

Review submitted: February 3, 2010   Date of arrival: January 3, 2010

We had the pleasure of staying in Dirk's house for the month of January 2010 and enjoyed it immensely. It is in an ideal location for enjoying Playa Hermosa. The pool is great and you really dont want for anything. Tim and Gus at Beachfront were wonderful to work with and we appreciated their help. While you are there make sure you get to Ginger for Dinner it located within walking distance to the house and is a great night out. Also there is a Mexican Restaurant at Ladera Del Mar on the road to Coco that is great. Thanks for Everything Dirk and Family.

Casa Manana was awesome. The house is beautiful, very close to the beach, comfortable, spacious, and the pool was so relaxing. The house was exactly what was described by the owner, who is very responsive and great to work with. We had all the amenities and comforts of home. The house is stocked with everything you need in the kitchen to cook out if you choose. There are two grocery stores within walking distance.

Two friends and I rented the house to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We had a blast in Costa Rica and at the house. We saw all kinds of wildlife around the house.
We went diving, snorkeling, zip-lining, hiking to a volcano, and 4-wheeling through the rain forest. What a blast. We also spent a day at the house relaxing around the pool.

The property management company (Gus and Tim) was very responsive and provided constant attention to us. They gave us suggestions on what to do and even brought us beer a couple of times!

One suggestion we would make --- rent a car. We initially did not and wished we would have. We rented mid-week and glad we did. Roads are easy and getting places was easy.

Overall, the house was clean and spacious and it was nice to have a home away from home. Thanks to Dirk and Lisa for their great hospitality with their home. We plan on going again next chance we get.

Thanks for the incredible review!! I'm so glad you girls all had a great time. I'm going to ask Gus and Tim why they never stop by and bring me a beer while I'm down there?? We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. Casa Manana was a fabulous home base and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there! By the time we reached Hermosa, we had already been in Costa Rica for two weeks and we were thrilled to see a dishwasher, phone, internet, and most importantly a comfortable bed! The pool kept the kids busy and was great to come home to after a day out in the hot sun. The house was very comfortable for our entire family and our kids did not want to leave to come back home to Portland. I really appreciated how well supplied the house was with furniture, dishes, towels, spices, etc. Thank you so much for your hospitality and advice. You helped make this a trip one we will always remember!
Owner's Response: Hi Kim,
I'm so glad your family had a great time in Costa Rica and that I could help. You could probably tell from our phone conversations that I enjoy making suggestions and sharing some of our Costa Rica experiences. If you don't mind, I'd like to use that photo on our website you sent me of your husband and the 50 pound Mahi Mahi he caught when you guys were down. I thought our 3 little 7 pounders we caught last time were nice, but that guy was a monster. I'm guessing you won't be eating fish for a while. Thanks again and let us know when you're coming back down.

Review Submitted: August 13, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My wife, three children and I had a great stay in Casa Manana. The house is perfectly fitted out for a relaxing stay on the Pacific Coast. It is very well maintained and was immaculately clean when we arrived. The included maid service was also great so the house stayed very clean for our entire stay. Even with three children!
We really enjoyed the Playa Hermosa beach just down the road. It was always very relaxed and quiet and provided great swimming and sand-castle fun for the kids. The beach is walking distance and we did plan to walk there; we just never got around to it. Parking was too easy.
Dirk and the property manager were also great. The service provided by both was fantastic.
I would recommend Casa Manana to anyone and would definitely stay there again.
Owner's Response: Hi Andrew,
Thanks very much for staying with us and I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed the house and beach. I appreciate your comments about the staff, and I'll be sure and let them all know you thought they did a great job. I've been told winters can be brutal in Toronto, so keep us in mind when you need another round of fun in the sun. Stay in touch and thanks again,
Dirk

My wife and I and our 2 children, ages 4 and 1, stayed at Casa Manana with our 2 friends and their 2 children from 06-01-09 to 06/08/09. We had a wonderful time!

First of all, getting the house rented was great, Dirk and Lisa were very friendly and reliable, always retuning any email or phone call and answering all of our questions.

As for the house, it is BEAUTIFUL!!! Great location for one thing, and the floor plan is nice and open, which worked out great with the kids! The pool is amazing, we spent a lot of our time in the pool and out on the patio...great for relaxing!! The house was very clean, the staff great, and took care of all of our needs.

While we stayed at Casa Manana we did several activites and ate at some great places in and near Hermosa. First of all some of the activites included, ziplining at the Congo Trail. Very worth it, but make sure you pay the extra 5 bucks to go in with the white faced and spyder monkeys...probably the neatest experience we had while there. We also enjoyed the beach in Hermosa, the water is clear and calm, overall just really enjoyable. We also drove to nearby Coco where we rented a boat that took us snorkling which was also very fun, we got to see lots of fish and a couple of white spotted rays! Also in Coco we had fun going to the shops and getting gifts to take home. One day we drove to Tamarendo where we took surf lessons and also did some shopping. The rest of our time was just spent relaxing around the house and enjoying it!

As for places to eat, we really loved eating at Ginger's in Hermosa, a little expensive, but well worth it! The Upper Deck sports bar had great buffalo wings, but the pizza was not very good. We did a lot of eating just at the house which was a huge plus, as it can get expensive eating out all the time, so it was nice to get together and make a meal at the house and relax and watch the sunset next to the beautiful view of the ocean!!

I would recomment this property to anyone...it exceeded all of our expectations!! Again, I can't say enough about Dirk and Lisa who were just wonderful, and we are so greatful that they shared their home with us!! Thanks so much, we had such a great time!!!

It was hard to say goodbye to Casa Manana!

Review submitted: July 31, 2009   Date of arrival: July 20, 2009

Owners response: Hi Kim,
I'm so glad your family had a great time in Costa Rica and that I could help.

Girl's Week in Costa Rica

Review submitted: June 29, 2009   Date of arrival: June 13, 2009

Owners response: Hey Jennifer,
Thanks for the incredible review!! I'm so glad you girls all had a great time. I'm going to ask Gus and Tim why they never stop by and bring me a beer while I'm down there?? I'm sure it had nothing to do with having 3 girls staying at our home. Anyway, thanks again for all your kind words and please stay in touch. It was a pleasure working with you as well.

Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments! We're so glad you guys had a good trip and enjoyed our home and our little slice of paradise. From the looks of things, you pretty well did it all. Lisa and the kids and I are heading down in a couple of weeks, can't wait... We'll take your recommendation and try the zipline at the Congo Trail. We've always gone over to Witches Rock up by the Four Seasons, but I'm sure the boys will be anxious to try a new canopy tour. Again, thanks and let us know when you want to bring the family back down.

Well....another year and another stay at Casa Manana! This time for 2 weeks! I can't add anything more to my post than last year, so, please, read that one!....no, no, just kidding!
Last year I was worried that if I leave glowing comments we are not going to be able to rent it again! I was almost right! As it happened, this year we found the perfect window that worked for us, as well as Dirk.....This February, for 2 weeks. We rented it in December....this house is going fast!
Dirk and Lisa, as always, perfect hosts! for all of you people renting in Playa Hermosa, you know there are problems with the water, given that we got there at 10 PM, on a Saturday, we had to call Dirk at his home, on a Sunday nonetheless, and he called us back, made another few phone calls and arranged everything!
One of those calls went to Gus, the concierge of the property. You could not ask for someone better for this job. Prompt, helpful, always accomodating.
I really don't know whaat to add! The fact that we went back and dealt with the same owners 2 yrs. in a row should say something to anyone interested. We are not related, we spoke on the phone maybe 6 times for these 2 trips, he emailed us all info/maps/suggestions to all our questions, they took care of everything for us.
The house is exactly as it's shown in the pictures: spacious, fully appointed with everything that one would need during a vacation, swimming pool and an absolutely amazing view!
Thank you Casa Manana, Dirk, Lisa, Gus, for another exceptional trip!
Andrea

Owners response: Hi Andrea,
Thanks for the kind review and staying with us a second time around! Sorry about the brief water interruption and glad to see Gus figured it out and got you back up quickly. I hope Ninette received the "See Foot Restaurant" photo she asked me to email her; that was hilarious. Stay out of the snow and let me know when you guys want to come back down.
Thanks again,

Our stay at Casa Manana was excellent. There 6 in our party with 2 children, ages 13 and 3. Both kids had the best time. Between the pool, the tv with videos, and the internet there was never a dull moment. The house was fantastic. Lots of room for all. Every one from the maids to the security guards to Gus to Dirk were really great and made our stay pleasant. We all hated to leave. Can't wait to go back.

Casa Manana was wonderful and we were pleasantly surprised to find it even better than the photos suggested it would be! It is very speacious, clean, well equipped and perfectly private. The beautiful pool is a definite highlight! The local management team were excellent and the 24 hour security gave us an extra sense of safety (not that we needed it,Playa Hermosa is a lovely, friendly little town and not once did we feel anything but safe and welcome).A fantastic holiday (and a welcome break from the British winter) and we will never forget our breakfasts by the pool watching hummingbirds in the flowers, vultures in the sky, lizards on the patio and howler monkeys in the nearby trees.

Casa Manana was a perfect honeymoon getaway. The house was lovely, with picture windows in every room. For those who wish to travel with other couples or family, this house offers privacy as well as enough room for entertaining. We loved the open living/kitchen floor plan which overlooked the pool and Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, the rainy season hit hard the week of Oct 12-19th. All but one of our tours were cxl'd due to flooded rivers and roads. That's why this home was such a perfect sanctuary. We could sit on the covered patio and enjoy the sounds of birds, and watch the display of butterflies and hummingbirds "up close and personal." Between rain storms, we visited the little villages close to Playa Hermosa. FYI, a four wheel drive is a must! The property manager was helpful and kept us abreast of road conditions. We have promised ourselves another visit, but next time during the spring!

month long stay

Review submitted: July 5, 2008   Date of arrival: June 1, 2008

My wife recently retired from her job so she chose to return to Costa Rica as her "reward". She painstakingly searched the internet for a place to stay for a month. She chose Casa Manana based on location, cost, positive reviews, and a phone conversation with owner, Dirk. Dirk was extremely helpful during the planning phase of our trip and checked on us several times to ensure our stay was going well. It was!! What a terrific house. Plenty of room and the pool was wonderful. We actually brought a laptop to aid us in developing things to do, so the wi-fi was very helpful. The Vonage phone service worked exceptionally. We had seven family member/friends come and go during our month. They were all impressed with Casa Manana, Playa Hermosa, and Guanacaste in general. We would buy fresh fish from the fish store behind Papagayo Seafood Restaurant in Playas del Coco. We also found a farmers market in Liberia, held on Fridays, for fruit and veggies. A brand new supermarket (Auto Mercado) opened in Cocos on June 27th. They had everything you need. Earl at Diving Safaris in Playa Hermosa runs a great dive shop. There are several good restaurants in Playa Hermosa. Skip "Gingers". We thought it was overpriced for what you received. We're from California, we know tapas dining. This place was not worth it. La Finesterra was our favorite in P.H., great view of the beach, good food, and friendly waitstaff. Don't miss a visit to Arenal. We stayed in the Smithsonian rooms at the Arenal Observatory. What a view! We lucked out; the volcano was blowing out while we were there. Stop at the Cafe Macadamia on the way to Arenal. Geat sandwiches and smoothies. Gus, Tim, and Heber (pool guy) were very helpful and on top of everything. Gus arranged with a friend of his, Eric, to take our group of seven into Nicaragua. It was a great trip. We would definitely stay at Casa Manana again, as would all of our visitors.

Owners response: Thanks Tammy and Jack for all the kind words!! I'm so glad you all had such a good trip. It was always a pleasure visiting with both of you and hope you enjoy your well deserved retirement. Every time I read comments from our guests about their vacation, I alway want to head back down. Surely there's got to be something I need to do around the house, or at least that'll be my excuse to my wife. You guys take care and keep in touch.
Thanks again,
Dirk

Casa Manana Playa Hermosa House

Review submitted: April 10, 2008   Date of arrival: March 14, 2008

For three weeks in March and early April we had three different family groups come to stay with us at the Casa Manana for a week at a time. What a terrific place for families or for three to four sets of couples. Affordable, close to the airport in Liberia, good roads make this home a easy place to get to. The house itself is a wonderful place to stay. The 4 bedrooms/2 baths and the great pool and living areas make this a top notch place to stay without the top notch prices at many other homes of this size. Playa Hermosa beaches, the restaurants, and activities are all within walking distances but I recommend a car to travel to the many nearby towns and beaches that differ from Playa Hermosa. The house and pool were well maintained, clean and any problems that sprung up were quickly handled by the staff. All linens and towels were provided, everything you need in a kitchen from blenders to coffee pots were there, satellite TV was a touch of home, wireless internet if you must, so all you need to bring is your toothbrush. On a scale of 1-10 this place is a solid 9.

Home Away From Home

Review submitted: March 16, 2008   Date of arrival: February 1, 2008

Casa Manana was superb. We enjoyed our holiday more because we had our own home and could relax far more than we could have done in a hotel. The pool and view are gorgeous and the BarBQ was very handy for cooking steaks from an outstanding butcher in Liberia. For three couples an extra bathroom would have been attractive. The house is spacious and very comfortable.

We were at the house not even a week ago....To quote one of us, "if we're not paying attention, we could get used to this"!
Perfect setting for a family trip! Casa Manana is splendid! Spacious, clean, cosy, inviting....not to mention the pool! So convenient to have a way to cool off after a day at the beach, while "somebody" makes dinner reservations!
Dirk, a perfect owner! Always in contact, always ready with suggestions and ideas and extremely helpful with info and arrangements! Gus, a sweetheart!
Thank you,

P.S. I have to stop, or we'll never be able to book this property again! It'll be that busy!

It has been one month since we stayed in Costa Rica at Casa Manana and I haven't been able to get this vacation out of my mind. It was fabulous!

Casa Manana is a great house--clean, spacious, comfortable, and so convenient to everything Costa Rica. The view of the Pacific and surrounding Hermosa was overwelming. The birds and wildlife are just a step away; however, don't plan to sleep late as the 'howlers' get up pretty early!
Dirk is the perfect owner....always available to answer questions and take the time to insure our stay was at the highest standard. Thankyou.

Our stay was perfect. The house is beautiful, sparkling clean. the pool and grounds very well kept and so relaxing. The view is out of this world.Gus is very helpful. The maids are delightful and do such a great job. We couldn't ask for a better place to stay and are already looking forward to another vist.Dirk made it so easy to plan our trip, sending information etc.Gus quickly answered all my many E Mail questions. And all question while we were there. Personally checked in with us daily to make sure all was well.Needless to say I can't say enought good things about our visit. The five of us felt we were in another world.Life moves at a slower pace in Costa Rica. The people are very friendly.Driving is definately different, you need nerves of steel but after a day or two you get used to it. The resturants are very good. The Steak House was good. We were not to impressed with Ginger's. The sunset sail around the bay is a must. Beautiful! If anyone one has any questions about staying at Dirk's just ask me, I'll be more than glad to answer

The Casa Manana was the perfect house for our vacation rental in Hermosa. Centrally located in Hermosa and literally a minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. The house was clean and the view from the back porch over Hermosa to the Pacific was great. Cooked Mahi Mahi every night on the BBQ grill outside and relaxed in the pool. Lots of room in the house with typical Costa Rican flare. We will be back.

All of the people you referred us were helpful and good natured. we thoughly enjoyed the area and the escursions that were there, for our part we went to do the obvious: horsebackt riding and a canopy tour and the not so obvious: day trip to see Granada, Nicaragua. Our party of 8 friends can mirror all the other comments, but we want to add that for us, being able to, at the end of each days activity, return to the peace and quiet of our own house. No motel, hotel, or lodge hustle and bustle. Breakfast on the patio, occasional B.B.Q's and our own inventions with Papaya, mango, pineapple, and bananas blended into some very exotic drinks as the sun set made the trip for us. Only sounds were the birds and unkown wildlife in the surrounding jungle to sooth our nerves after a day of thrills on Costa Rica's roads. There is a catfish restaurant run by some folks from Texas, nearby, that we recommend very highly. Tim or Gus know where.

Great house, we really enjoyed the property, it's amenities and the view. During our stay at Casa Manana, we went scuba diving, dined frequently at Velero's on the beach, watched howlers monkeys in the trees, watched birds off of the patio, drove the highway down the peninsula down to Nicoya and back up the coast road/goat trail to Hermosa. We played over in Coco - fun town, and also drove North up to the Nicaraguan border (didn't cross it!) then over to the beaches west of La Cruz past Soley. Basically this house is in a great location to enjoy the Pacific side of Costa Rica! We also drove to Arenal and Monteverde. A 4WD is a MUST and realize the drive is at least half of the adventure! I highly recommend Casa Manana - it is a beautiful house and well maintained and managed. You walk in look towards the gulf view and the vacation is ready to begin!

My boyfriend and I spent 7 glorious days at Casa Manana. We felt completely at ease in the house. We utilized the kitchen by making a "Costa Rican" breakfast every morning. We enjoyed lounging by the pool and soaking up the breathtaking views of the beach and ocean. This location was perfect in that it was so close to the water and neighboring beaches.
We felt safe knowing that the house had security lights and that there was a 24 hour security guard at the front gate.
Dirk and Lisa were very helpful before we even left Dallas. When we arrived, we were greeted by Tim and Gus from Beachfront Properties. They were both very helpful in finding restuarants and suggestions with outings. This took the stress out of planning something on our own.
Marty and I can't wait to get back for more adventures in Costa Rica and we are hopeful that we can stay at Casa Manana again.

The house and location was beautiful. Every morning at 6 am my husband and I would be out on the patio at poolside having morning coffee. The sounds of the many different birds were great. The butterflies and hummingbirds would be all over the bougainvilla. We used the pool constantly, even late at night. Our three boys, 15, 17,20 thoroughly enjoyed the pool and all the room we had in the house. The house was in a great location, with an easy walk to the beach. The drive to Playa del Coco was very quick and we could do most of our grocery shopping there. Dirk was very helpful with any questions we had and his contacts there, Tim and Gus, were extremely helpfulas well. We would definitely like to rent this property again.

My wife and I and another couple, in our early 50's, from Savannah, GA stayed a Casa Manana April 21-28. Our vacation objective was rest, eat well and visit the local beaches via 4 wheel drive.

The house was clean, attractively furnished and well equiped with cooking utensils and condiments. We appreciated the cordial reception and instructions by Gus and Tim.

We also appreciated the magnificent view of the pool, surrounding garden and the distant Playa Hermosa Bay view. The neighborhood was clean, quiet and the security force was always courteous and pleasant.

Most evenings we ate at local restaurants, however, one night we used the grill, which worked well. Another night we had a take out dinner from El Dolce in Playa Coco.

We spent a large percentage of our time visiting different beaches, eating lunch on the beach and snorkling. The house enhanced our stay with its good airconditioning system, large outdoor porch sheltering us from the sun and the functional layout of the bedrooms and living areas.

I would recommend Casa Manana to other persons.

We stayed at Casa Manana for 5 days starting on March 19th. We had a great time and loved the house and the area. I have been traveling back to Costa Rica for about 10 years, touring different places and hotels, and I can honestly said this was probably the most enjoyable trip. Dirk, Tim and Guss were extremely helpful and kind, and were always available. The house was great, fully loaded and the pool perfect for the hot days. The house was just perfect for our group of 7, and we look forward to hopefully visiting again in the near future!!

My wife and I, along with four other friends stayed at Casa Manana for five nights starting on March 12, 2007. We had a great experience, the house was great and had everything we needed. The walk to the beach took between five or ten minutes and was a very pleasant walk. The house was very comfortable to stay in and the pool was great on hot days, which was every day.

Tim and Gus from Beachfront properties were great and helped us feel right at home. Gus helped us set up tours, arrange transportation, and answer our other questions.

Thank you Dirk & Lisa for renting us your lovely home in the end of February 2007. The house was even nicer than the photos, the pool and beautiful flowers surrounding were a picture postcard. The peacefulness and privacy was exactly what I wanted. Playa Hermosa area was great, plenty of nice restaurants around and many things to do. I hope to stay there again in the near future!!

We had a great 10 days at Casa Manana in January '07. The pictures that are shown are exactly what we found. We had a group of 8 in the house & we didn't find it to feel crowded at all. The open design of the living room & kitchen gave everyone room to move. Grandmom even was comfortable getting around with her walker.

As for the Playa Hermosa area, it was superb. We found a very private beach within a few hundred yards of the main beach. We took alot of day trips, Playa Grande to surf, Rincon Park for the waterfall & mudpots. Did a two tank dive with Diving Safaris, it was our first ever dive and they were very helpful. One of the Divemasters arranged a fishing trip for us aboard the "Don Manuel" with Capt. Daniel & 1st mate Danny. We caught two 35 - 40# dolphin (Mahi-Mahi not Flipper) and they boated both perfectly.

The owners, Dirk & Lisa, are very helpful. The house is complete with everything you need. All you need to do is a food shop in Del Coco and your set. The pool & view is fabulous for the days that you want to veg at the house. Already looking forward to another trip.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Manana. This relaxing house is conveniently located with an excellent view. The staff were most helpful, laundry room fully stocked a big plus!! We only regret that we had not stayed longer in beautiful Costa Rica.

I must tell you that our stay at Casa Manana was outstanding. The house was beautiful and spacious. (Much more than two people needed.) Our stay was so relaxing because of the comforts of the house. The bay windows gave us a wonderful view and the pool and patio area were equally as nice. The restaurants nearby were very nice and offered great dining experiences. Scuba Safari, for adventurers, is right down the beach road and offered professional and safe diving and also booked deep sea fishing for us.

Thankyou Dirk and Lisa for making the rental process so easy. Pura Vida!!!

Sincerely, Cole

What a spectacular place to stay, perfect for families or several couples. Accomodations were marvelous with all the comforts of home and then some! Interior was inviting, comfortable, and roomy, a pleasant retreat from a long day of outdoor exploring. The beautiful pool added a refreshing and relaxing end to the day. The view was great, and the location perfect, close to a magnificent beach area, great dining, and a short drive to and from the airport, shopping, and night life. And as inexpensive as it is to visit Costa Rica, we could not have found a better deal for a vacation destination. This is definitely the place to come again and again.

The house and surroundings are beautiful, what a view from the porch! This is what a vacation is all about!! Dealing with Dirk and Lisa on the rental was a breeze, and then having Tim in Costa Rica help with tours and adventures made this a vacation of a life time and one I will recommend to all.

We stayed at Casa Manana for a week at the end of August. This time period is Costa Rica’s rainy season, but we only had a daily shower that didn’t get in the way of our plans and, more importantly, our tans. When we arrived to the house,it looked exactly as it did on the pictures. Both the inside and outside of the house was impeccably clean and well-maintained,a quality which is kept up by the maid, gardener and pool guy (who visited twice during our stay). In addition, when it said "fully furnished" on the website,I didn't take it literally, but the home was filled with everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. This included pool floaters and towels, laundry and cleaning agents and even cooking spices! It’s apparent that previous guests contributed to our comfort by leaving behind kitchen items they used.We did the same for future renters.Dirk and Lisa even left guides on the country(saves a trip to Barnes and Nobles!),which offer maps and a lot of helpful information on most destinations. You’ll find plenty of information on various activities laid out on the coffee table. The location is extremely convenient with the beach down the block and tourist attractions, shopping and nightlife of Coco nearby. You can’t pass up the stands across the Lizard Lounge for great deals on souvenirs.Feel free to practice your bargaining skills here to get a better deal. Most of the employees at the supermarket in Coco (Superluperon) speak English-very useful at the deli counter. You can also pay in dollars here.Tim was very helpful with hints as to how to get around Arenal and San Jose and even got us a discount on a boating trip (ask him about John Kingsley’s boat). You can’t get around without a car here, but we enjoyed the driving experience.Make sure to get a four wheel drive if you plan on going farther than just to Coco and the airport. The roads in CR have varying degrees of pavement with anything outside the main highway as dirt roads filled with potholes. Arenal Volcano-Worth the trip even if you can’t stay to witness the lava activity.Great views and food at the Arenal Observatory Lodge. The hike to the waterfall is a must (only a 15 minute walk).Visit the German Bakery on the way for great coffee and desserts. Coco was our favorite beach, but if you want something more private, go with Hermosa.Very pleasant beach with gentle waves.
We couldn't have pictured a more perfect introduction to the country. With all the developments going on in the area,I'm sure one day we'll be paying much more than we did this time to stay at your home.Dirk and Lisa, thank you again for allowing us to use your house and experience what "pura vida" really means.

We found Casa Manana to be a clean, open, nicely furnished and decorated vacation home. The house is great for families or adults. We loved the pool and the view of the ocean. The birds that nest in the nearby trees were great to watch. Close to the beach, shopping and restaurants. Highly Recommended!
