Family Weekend

Sojuta (Plymouth, MI)
Review submitted: March 25, 2013   Date of arrival: March 22, 2013

We had a great weekend in this house. The house was as described, spacious and clean, with 3 levels of living space perfect for three generations. The bedroom on the entry level was perfect for our young adult.
The views of Lake Michigan were beautiful and so was the wildlife around the house.
After two days of skiing and enjoying the family were are now back at work still thinking of the good time that we had there.
We decided on Wednesday to do this and the people in charge made it possible that it worked out at such short notice.

Nice Area

We stayed here for two weeks and had a few issues. We contacted the owner and they have fixed all of them. They are great! I took off one star since they had to be fixed after we arrived. They came and moved the rocks we had isssue with in the water. They replaced the shades and put in new curtains in the bedrooms. They also told the cleaning crew to come later on our behalf so we could sleep in. We stayed two weeks so they had to come in the middle. They made sure the lawn guys came later in the day as well. Wow, are they great owners. They even said they might think about putting in a king size bed in the master upstairs, since there is room, and getting new linens and blanklets for the beds. Check the vents in the upstairs, if they are not open it gets toasty. Also, fourth bedroom is an office on first floor, just so you know.
The area is supreme. The house was spotless. The TV is very nice as was reception. Kitchen has lots of room and the house is nice and bright. We had a good time and wish all the owners in the big lake were this good.

Owners response: Glad your stay was enjoyable, you are welcome back anytime! Just one comment if I could so there is no confusion to any future renters. The mainfloor bedroom is not an office (There is no office furniture, computer, dusty fax machine, etc..), it is merely a bedroom without a closet. It has a queen bed, two night stands, dresser, and two lamps. Hope this helps!

Peaceful and Scenic

Abby (Oak Park, Illinois)
Review submitted: November 21, 2011   Date of arrival: July 16, 2011

Our family of 6 stayed one week at the "Surf Cottage" this past summer. We didn't want to leave!! The home is so peaceful it's almost dreamy. We could tell it was going to be a relaxing stay when we first pulled into the home. The house is situated on a road that really seemed like more of a big bike path than road. Very peaceful and the views were spectacular. The inside of the home looks like something from a 60's home decorating magazine. There were videos, magazines and old records for us to enjoy. We spent our evenings listening to the turntable and watching The Avengers (I now have to get that series on DVD!) :) I even once used the 60's cookbook in the kitchen. The home was also very clean and well maintained. It's the kind of clean that makes you want to take your shoes off and feel comfortable doing so. I spoke twice to the manager when booking and once before leaving. She was very helpful. During our short stay, we went to Mackinac Island once and the city twice. We had a two fires on the beach and though the beach is long, we never saw another person on it. We were even lucky enough to catch a thunderstorm. We could hear it rumbling from Wisconsin (I think) and over Lake Michigan. It was majestic and big sounding. There is a book in the home with maps that detail things to do and places to eat. We tried two of the restaurants in Petoskey and they were both REALLY good. One was called Julliene Tomatoes and the other was an Asian restaurant (can't remember the name.) I think our favorite restaurant was Legs Inn in Good Heart. It's a polish restaurant on a large bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. One of the nice surprises about the home is that it has two living rooms. The kids were able to play and watch TV in the one with the pool table and my husband and I could watch The Avengers (I will get that series!) in the other. That wasn't something we thought about when we booked the home, but we now know it's almost a requirement with the age range of our kids. There was also a firepit in the backyard (which we didn't use) and a swingset (which the kids did use). We all had room to spread out, yet enjoy each other. Anyway, we are so happy to have found this home. We are definitely coming back and would recommend it to our friends.

Warm, Welcoming & CLEAN

Chris (Garden City, MI)
Review submitted: January 12, 2011   Date of arrival: December 27, 2010

The house is AMAZING! It was the cleanest and coziest house we have rented.
We had a large group of 12 people and had more than enough room. We loved that we could bring our four-legged family members as well! The property was beautiful; we fully enjoyed walking through the back woods. It was such a treat to see Lake Michigan in the winter and walk down the stairs to be on the snow covered beach.
We will definitely rent from the Blue Lakes Vacation Rentals properties again…

Wonderful Week

Review submitted: March 3, 2010   Date of arrival: August 1, 2009

We had a wonderful week at The Surf Cottage. The house is perfect for kids & adults. The beach was pure heaven on Earth. The waves were huge. We even saw some surfers. We had such fun swimming, tanning, biking, and of course eating! We had great campfires by the beach. The most fun was the pancake competition. (Mocha, pb & banana, s'more, egg & bacon, apple graham, chocolate pretzel). All good!

Wonderful Vacation

Review submitted: March 3, 2010   Date of arrival: May 15, 2009

We had a wonderful vacation. House was very clean. We traveled to Mackinaw, Petoskey, Charlevoix, etc.. We saw many deer near Harbor Springs, and they posed for Photographs. The crystal clear skies were filled with countless stars. The water was very blue. The sunset was gorgeous. Humming birds fly by the window. The quiet air was broken only by the sound of a busy woodpecker. The ground was covered with Trillium in full bloom, and the trees were so many shades of spring green. We had a campfire, and told stories after roasting hot dogs, and marshmallows. We enjoyed Leggs Inn, Turkeys, and Cornichonos, all great food. We played pool, and Toss Across.
