Review submitted: April 2, 2012   Date of arrival: March 28, 2012

Pleasant, comfortable, and clean villa in well-maintained building with very easy access to the short boardwalk to the beach (took us only about a minute to get from the villa, down the elevator/stairs to the beach). The ocean is visible from the villa although much of the view is of lush island greenery also.
Kitchen is fully equipped for dining in or opt for one of the good restaurants available.
Biking on Kiawah is great, especially if you appreciate easy, leisurely riding on miles of bike paths in a beautiful setting.
Very good communication on the part of the owner, with clear instructions provided for what you'll need to know while staying in his villa.
We would definitely rent this villa again.

My husband and I had a wonderful time visiting Kiawah for the New Year's Eve weekend. The villa fit our expectations perfectly - a terrific location close to the beach, comfortable accommodations, and close to Freshfields, too. Craig couldn't have been nicer to work with, allowing us a later checkout than usual since it was New Year's Day, and we were out late the night before. I highly recommend this villa!!

My husband and I recently stayed at this one bedroom villa at Shipwatch on Kiawah Island. The villa was just as it was presented and was very clean. THe kitchen has all that you need, and beach towels were even included. I thought the view to the beach from the balcony was even better than the photograph showed on the website. The owner provided all that we needed plus recommendations of places to go and to eat while we were there. He was always quick to email back when I had a question. This was our first visit to Kiawah, and we loved it. The bike trails are wonderful, and you can ride for hours throughout the beautiful island. I would definitely recommend this property to others.

I picked the days of an earthquake & Irene to visit Kiawah but I still had a wonderful time! This villa is the perfect size for a solo traveler but a couple would also be comfortable here. It is decorated in French Country, very pretty. The views are beautiful, it's unbelievable how private the unit is, I felt as if I was on a tropical island all to myself! The boardwalk to the beach is at the elevator door- how much closer can you get?! I stayed at the beach til 7PM & then picked a different restaurant each night for dinner, & never left the island! The free WiFi was great, the kitchen has everything, the TV's are nice, & I loved the views. I will definitely be back soon!

My family had a wonderful vacation staying in this villa in Shipwatch. The location was very convienient for biking, shopping, dining and most important, the beach. The unit was as described and was a short walk to a beautiful beach. I would recommend bicycling down the beach toward the river in the morning and watching the dolphins feed on small fish. It was spectacular. It must have been a great vacation because even my two teenage daughters loved it. Looking forward to coming back in the future.

My wife and I had a wonderful week's stay at Kiawah. The villa was as advertised and very convenient and close to the beautiful beach. Kiawah, of course, is lovely and absolutely first class. It's proximity to downtown Historic Charleston is an added bonus that we took advantage of a couple of times during our stay.

Everything is available in the tastefully furnished condo, and it is as close as it gets to the "original Kiawah". We immediately took advantage of the daily delivery of two chairs and umbrella for an extra $100. The nearby restaurants were varied, and the market outside the island is quite complete. The owners made our stay easy as pie. I highly recommend it and would love to return!

The property was exactly as represented, and we were especially impressed with the cleanliness. The kitchen was completely outfitted, very easy to use. Furniture and bed were all very comfortable. The owner was very responsive to all our pre-visit questions, and he provided information on local restaurants, etc., which was quite helpful. We loved sitting on the balcony, enjoying the ocean view. We would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I have been to Kiawah several times and have stayed in other areas of the island. This condo by far was well priced for the ammenities it offered and the beach was 30 seconds right outside the door. The condo's furnishings were just like the photos on the internet. Very comfortable all the way around! We will stay here again in the future. Nice being so close to the front gate with easy in and easy out to the nearby shopping and the Straw Market is right next door.

Everything you need for a fabulous vacation is at this Shipwatch Villa. The Villa is spacious, bright, tastefully decorated, steps from the beach and close to all the amenities Kiawah Island has to offer. The owner of the condo was easy to work with and flexible on the dates which we very much appreciated. We could open the windows in our condo and listen to the sound of the surf. We called a bike store to rent bikes on our way to Kiawah Island and by the time we arrived at the condo, our bikes were waiting for us. Everyone on the island was gracious and accommodating and we highly recommend this Villa and Island as a vacation destination.

My husband and I had never been to Kiawah before. We fell in love with the island and loved this small, but fully appointed villa. We loved that it was just steps from a beautiful uncrowded beach via a boardwalk, had tons of bike trails available, and shopping and restaurants close by on the island (some just 1/2 block away). Then of course golf courses galore and Charleston with all it has to offer only 20-30 minutes away....... It was just the perfect combination of offerings, all of which were easily available without much effort at all. It was without a doubt my most relaxing vacation ever.

This was our first time back to Kiawah in several years. I must say, we had the perfect vacation! The description of the villa was accurate and we couldn't have asked for a better location. The owner of the villa made our visit very easy with not only directions, but things to do while we were visiting the area. The property was very clean and had everything we needed to make our vacation easy. We would walk down to the beach each morning and with the villa being so perfectly located in Kiawah it was easy to get around in any direction. The trails around the resort are wonderful to bike or walk. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Kiawah from casual to elegant. Also, the shopping was surprising. The grocery store was amazing and fun at the same time with all the prepared foods to choose from. We will definitely go back and this villa was perfect for us! We miss it already and talk about what fun we had on our vacation in Kiawah. If you need some R&R, this is the place for you!

Marvelous stay at Kiawah villa

Review submitted: May 28, 2010   Date of arrival: May 5, 2010

We had a wonderful visit to Kiawah and to Charleston. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The Villa is situated ideally to take full advantage of the beach only steps away and is close enough to Charleston that we were able to make several trips into the city without 'driving' ourselves crazy. We spent one day kayaking in the Kiawah estuary and never left the island. It was wonderful! Every morning we walked the beach and did some body surfing. We found beautiful shells to take home to the kids. The villa, the restaurant around the corner, Fresh Fields grocery and everything were so convenient. The complex was incredibly quiet. We felt as though we had the place to ourselves. All of the appliances worked fine. We really appreciated the bottle of Pinot Grigio in the refrigerator. It was so refreshing to have a glass in the evening and sit on the veranda listening to the cicadas, often with an overflight of pelicans coming by in formation. So idyllic. We'll always remember our time there with great fondness.

The perfect get-away

Review submitted: July 14, 2009   Date of arrival: May 21, 2009

My husband and I were looking for the perfect get-away and found it on beautiful Kiawah island at this immaculate ocean front villa .A beautiful beach at the door steps of the building and endless bike paths connecting the island from one end to another awaited us. Early evenings we spent on the balcony at the villa taking in the ocean breeze while sipping a glass of wine. A cozy living/dining room, large bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen invited us to relax at our pace.
We especially enjoyed the long bike rides to remote places where we could observe nesting birds and large alligators lurking from the many ponds around the island.
The resort offers a very lovely shopping area with a mix of excellent restaurants, boutiques and a wonderful supermarket
that carries an array of specialties and ready made dishes for take-out. So we felt there was no need travel outside the resort for anything.
We are planning to return to Kiawah, a nature treasure.

This villa is perfect for a couple or a small family. Furnished in lovely "beach style" and very convenient to the beach which is accessible via a boardwalk. The pictures online capture the layout exactly. View from the balconies was of beautiful palm trees and the ocean.
Our favorite activity was biking around the island, reading on the beach and going out to nice restaurants. Charleston is very convenient and we dined there twice. We loved Magnolia's and "Slightly North of Broad." Hege's at the Freshfields Shopping area was also very good. Would definitely recommend.

Review submitted: May 19, 2009   Date of arrival: May 9, 2009

My husband and I spent a relaxing week in this villa. All descriptions are accurate. We were very comfortable in this clean and cozy place and hated to leave.

We spent our days walking the gorgeous beach and kicking back in lounge chairs on the beach for a couple of hours. We also spent some time just observing and marveling at the beauty of Kiawah.

I had a Mother's Day dining event at the Jasmine Porch, where the chefs were showcasing their local cuisines - with their moms! The Ocean Course Grill is a must do for lunch- the view is spectacular. The meals at both venues were excellent. Freshfields has a nice selection of stores, including Newton Farms for groceries and Hege's for a good dinner. It is a 40-minute ride to Charleston, if you can drag yourself away from the beach.

The owner's communications and instructions were gracious and clear. We appreciated the opportunity to stay at this lovely villa and hope to return in the future.

Kiawah in November

P & B (Ottawa, Canada)
Review submitted: November 30, 2008   Date of arrival: November 12, 2008

We stayed for five nights in November. It’s a quiet time on Kiawah and you can walk the gorgeous beach “up or down”for miles, meeting very few walkers. [ However, the central / north-eastern side of the island remains inaccessible to "renters" in a car since you need owner's privileges to get you past the security gate]. This second floor unit faces easterly, ie. has morning sunshine through the palm trees. The pictures on this web page and the above reviews accurately convey this unit’s cheerful and well-equipped character. The queen bed is very comfortable. The owner was helpful and easy to deal with. Your best bet for excellent food provisions is at Freshfields, a newly constructed “village market” minutes away up the road to Charleston, where you also find outdoor café, restaurants, book and other stores. We found the unit perfect [ and much better value compared to staying in Charleston ] as a base to drive each day into historic Charleston, the plantations, and Patriot’s Point ... all of which are a reasonable 35-45 minutes from Kiawah, leaving ample time to come back in the late afternoon for a nice walk on the beach into the sunset.

Great place to stay!

Rhonda of Atlanta (Atlanta)
Review submitted: October 23, 2008   Date of arrival: September 26, 2008

Kiawah Island is unlike any beach on the Atlantic with lush tropical vegetation, miles and miles of scenic bicycles paths and ten miles of pristine private beach. It's by far my favorite beach on the Atlantic or Gulf Coasts. Kiawah isn't simply a vacation resort. It's unique, it's a sustainable island community, home to many with some gorgeous homes. Kiawah Island has an active Nature Conversancy program which benefits the island by preserving its beauty and wildlife. While there I saw two alligators, many dolphins, a medium size shark and lot’s of native birds…it was a delightful. A forty minute drive and your in Charleston with fantastic restaurants, lots of southern history and charm with shopping galore

Shipwatch Villas sits directly on the beach with “in a minute" access to the beach. There were no surprises; ` the unit looks just like the photos. It was very clean, with almost any amenity one would desire. To my surprise when we arrived there was a lovely bouquet of flowers to set the tone. There is a partial sweeping ocean view from the deck which was quite lovely in the morning or evening. I also found the owners very easy to work with, ssessable and personable. Not only would I recommend it I will go back again and again.
