My boyfriend and I stayed at the Gatehouse this past week and were in for a wonderful suprise! The pictures of the house doesn't do it justice! We had never been to acadia national park before. Really beautiful! Went biking, hiking, kayaking on long pond. Great lobster at Trenton lobster pound, awesome scalops at Jordans snack shack. After being out all day and then coming home to the Gatehouse was incredible! We loved all the décor and special touches! I spent hours reading in the window seat soaking up the sunlight later in the afternoon or early in the am. Saw 2 deer playing in the backyard! We loved the open floor plan, high ceilings, long wood counter top to sit and eat breakfast at. Thank-you again for sharing your home with us. Be back soon!

Owners response: We're so pleased that folks find a pleasant surprise when they arrive at our "Gatehouse." Even when they don't write a review they write wonderful things in our guest book saying they couldn't have picked a better place for their home away from home, how central its location is to everything they want to do, the great book collection and sound system, and even the adults love exploring the Pine Cone Path looking for elves and gnomes! Thanks for the nice review and we hope you come back.

This house is terrific! The house is beautifully appointed with a cheery and fully-equipped kitchen, a great counter to hang out at, and good views of the water. We felt at home immediately! If you're a reader (or a writer!), don't bother to bring books with you because this house is fully stocked with a great variety of literary novels, non-fiction, childrens, and interesting stuff like a huge coffee-table book of New York Times front pages dating back as far as you can think. Despite Acadia looming nearby, you might find it hard to get out of the window seat to explore it.
That said, we had three great paddles in our kayaks, directly from the beach, up the Jordan River and into Eastern Bay. Great launching spot just across a small meadow and orchard and a rocky beach that's easy to navigate, plus you can walk for miles in two directions when the tide is right.
Total privacy at the Gatehouse, which is at the very end of a dead-end road.
Lovely, lovely spot and every little detail is attended to. Very peaceful and aesthetically pleasing setting, both inside and out. Only a half hour to everything in Acadia, too, and a great farmer's market on the way so you can stock up on fresh local fruits and veggies.
You won't be disappointed!

Owners response: We love when our renters appreciate all the books we have in our house. I have always thought writers in particular would find it the perfect place to relax, to read and to write!

The description of the property was totally accurate. The house, as well as the grounds, were lovely. Spoiled us for other rentals!

The Gatehouse was a perfect rental for my family and I. It was warm and welcoming (even with fresh flowers) and very well equipped. The setting was lovely as well. I was hesitant about not being on Mount Desert Island, but my fears were completely unfounded. The location was convenient and it was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of MDI. I enjoyed taking nice quiet runs through Lamoine and to the beach. Really can't say enough good things about this rental (except maybe that we wish we found all the games earlier...but there was much to do and explore in the area so the games weren't even needed)!. I now want to build a window seat for reading in my home!

Owners response: We are so pleased when folks love our house. Lamoine sounds like a strange little village and it's hard to convince people that is will be a great jumping-off spot for visiting Acadia and Mount Desert Island (including Bar Harbor) It is always rewarding for us when renters write that they were completely satisfied with their stay or that they found our home was far above their expectations.

We had a great time at this absolutely beautiful area very close to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. The property was wonderfully homey and stocked well with everything we could have wanted during our stay.
The sites and the sceanery were breathtaking. The fall colors were out in full force and I can't describe how pretty it was and though it was foggy and rainy during part of our stay it didn't diminish our enjoyment of Acadia National park. I would recommend this property to all of my friends and family and I hope to be able to visit again in the future.

Owners response: We appreciate so much the fact that renters notice all the little niceties we have at our house. We try to think of all the things folks could possibly need, from extra tooth brushes to condiments in the fridge. Then there are the things nature provides, a beautiful field to walk through to reach a typical seashore for beachcombing. Oh, and we mustn't forget the "pinecone path" that we did for the kids but find that adults get a kick out of it, too.
