Luxury in the Jungle

Review submitted: February 3, 2014   Date of arrival: January 26, 2014

Just returned from a week at Casa Buendia and it lived up to its promises of providing luxury, family-friendly accommodations in an undeveloped part of Costa Rica. We visited with six adults and three toddlers (3 years old) and everyone loved it. There was plenty of room in the house and the kids loved the pool. Also, Erick and Yelba were fantastic, giving us tours of the property and helping out with little questions.

The house is also well-located. After a five minute drive down the mountain (4x4 a must!), you're minutes from Playa Hermosa (wonderful swimming beach) and Playa Dominical (fascinating surfer town). Drive a little further south and you're in Uvita - great grocery store, health clinic, and home to beautiful national park with stunning beaches. We never lacked for things to do.

Quick tips - while the water in the home isn't potable, we had no trouble getting water from the local groceries and no one in our party ever got sick. Erick and Yelba were also able to provide air mattresses for the kids so they could sleep in the rooms with the parents - worked great. Finally, the house was an easy 3 hour drive from San Jose; however, on our trip there, the Caldera Highway was closed unexpectedly and it took about 4 hours and 30 minutes to get there (but we had a surprise tour of rural Costa Rica!).

Holiday Paradise

Review submitted: January 27, 2014   Date of arrival: December 28, 2013

Our family of 10 enjoyed a marvelous New Year's week at Casa Buendia. The home was clean and spacious. The mountainside view of the ocean never got old. The pool offered hours upon hours of entertainment and relaxation. Many days, our grown kids were perfectly content to hang around the house watching toucans and searching for howler monkeys in the hills. Erick and Yelba were the quintessential hosts. They took care of all our needs, including late night luggage retrieval, laundry assistance and coconut cracking. Erick even offered a botanical tour of the property. Outings included a day trip with snorkeling/scuba diving at Cano Island, off shore fishing and several hikes into the forest (night hike). For world class wings, the Jolly Roger was an easy drive or a strenuous hike down the hill and worth more than one visit. Costa Rica and Casa Buendia allowed our family to create some mighty fine memories!

Remote Tranquility

Review submitted: January 9, 2014   Date of arrival: December 21, 2013

This is the haven if you want to get away from the hustle and chaotic pace of the rest of the world, and if you don't want an "Americanized" resort, but yet have all the comforts of home. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle and patience to get to the Villa, and don't plan on having the convenience of a quick trip to the store. One time out and one time in each day is enough. Learn to enjoy the 4 KM drive up and down the undeveloped road to a rare piece of property. The privacy, comfort, and peacefulness of Casa Buendia is so relaxing. It's a great refuge to connect with family and friends outside of worldly distractions. But if you must stay connected to the your own world, the Villa has Wi-fi. One surprise, however, is that we found no DVD player to watch a few of our Christmas classic movies. The house is magnificent, the views are astounding, the sunsets are nothing short of amazing, and the memories are forever. The daytime ocean views are obvious, but not to be overlooked is the spectacular star-filled nighttime sky. The caretakers were more than caretakers. They are so friendly and genuinely good people who gladly do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. The village of Dominical - located about 25 minutes away - is a simple, laid-back, relaxing community with some great small businesses for coffee, ice cream, breakfast and a brew. Groceries? Head south to Uvita, about 25 minutes from the house. The grocery store will have most everything you need. But don't forget to buy and grill fresh-caught fish from the fishermen in Dominical. The caretakers will help you make the purchase and prepare the fish. You will have your choice of many activities to do in Costa Rica, but of all the things we did, the horseback ride to Nauyaca Falls was the best. Absolutely Marvelous!
And if you choose not to partake in the recreational activities in the area, simply chill in the hammock or the poolside chaise lounges and enjoy the toucans, geckos, and the howl of the monkeys. We planned and anticipated this vacation for nearly a year - it did not disappoint!

2nd Time; Still Magical

Review submitted: March 12, 2013   Date of arrival: March 3, 2013

This was our second time to Casa Buendia, and it is truly is a magical house. We decided to spend half of our trip outside Montezuma, and half returning to the Dominical area. This trip confirmed that Casa Buendia is such a special place, and there is really no reason to look elsewhere. We will continue to return to this house each time we visit Costa Rica.

The Dream House!

Review submitted: January 15, 2013   Date of arrival: January 2, 2013

We had a wonderful holiday with a family of 5 adults and 2-year-old. The house was spacious enough for all of us to have own privacy, pool was perfect also for our small child and everything was just like in the pictures - no surprices there! The garden was full of life - birds and monkeys- and much more in a short drive away.
In the house description 4-wheel-drive is recommended, but from our experience it's a must. Even during dry season it would be a real challenge to dry driving up there with normal two-wheel-drive.
Surrounding area is quiet and not suitable for party seekers. Fun & tasty Jolly Rodger's bar was a short walk/ drive away, so if you don't want to make your own dinner every evening, their chicken wings and burgers are excellent choices! We also booked Luis to cook for us for the first evening, which was a perfect start for our luxurious holiday.
Me and my family warmingly recommend this house to all! We had a wonderful holiday with great thanks to this lovely house!

Perfect Vacation Spot in Paradise

Review submitted: November 27, 2012   Date of arrival: November 7, 2012

Casa Buendia exceeded all of my expectations - the house as beautiful as the pictures and the views are absolutely STUNNING. The house is set up perfectly for large groups and families with a great balance of common areas and private spaces. The house comes with every amenity you could possibly need.

We saw lots of great wildlife in the trees while relaxing at the pool (toucans, humming birds, and even a monkey!) and took a great hike around the property - there is a waterfall not too far away. You truly feel like you are in paradise!

Dominical is a great town - not too touristy and very relaxing - lots of surfers. There is a bar/restaurant half way up the hill to Casa Buendia called Jolly Rogers that has great food (pizza, wings, burgers), cold beer, and American football on the TV! Tortilla Flats in Dominical is also great for food.

Stand Up Paddleboarding in Dominical with Shawn was awesome - he was a great teacher with lots of energy. Quepo Canyoning (near Quepos) was spectacular - our favorite activity by far. It was a 45 min drive from the house, but totally worth it. The "monkey drop" is something you will never forget!

You will definitely need to rent a car to get around (make sure it is a four wheel drive) - taxis will come up to the house, but they tend to be a little pricey.

The caretakers on property (Juan and Glenda) are friendly and beyond helpful. Louis, the property manager, cooked us an amazing meal the first night of our stay - it was a great way to start off our vacation. Vince, the owner of the house, is a pleasure to work with - he was very responsive to answer all of my questions and accommodate all of our requests.

I highly recommend a trip to Casa Buendia - I will definitely be returning in the future!

Every detail was perfect!

Review submitted: June 22, 2012   Date of arrival: June 11, 2012

Every element of our stay was perfect! The house was impressive in its design, cleanliness and comfort. The staff was impressive in their ability to provide fabulous meals, a clean home and pool and beautifully groomed gardens, even though we rarely saw them. The chef prepared meals were absolutely superb! Even their reference to Uvita Information Center, yielded curtious assistance and linked us to the greatest experiences scuba diving, surfing, zip lining, and even restaurants. Our week at Casa Buendia can only be descibed as perfection! And all that was complimented by stunning views of the Pacific, the stream that can be heard in the house and the amazing monkeys that call from the trees. We can not wait to return!! Thank you Casa Buendia!

Esperamos regresar pronto.

Review submitted: April 4, 2012   Date of arrival: April 23, 2011

Our group of 9, composed of two families with five children ages 6-12 stayed for one week in March 2012. This house met our every need and exceeded all expectations. The home is very spacious yet welcoming, open and breezy. The house and everything in it feel new and are exceptionally clean and well kept. The kitchen is large and functional, with everything you could need. The views are breathtaking, the pool pristine and large enough for 5 active kids. From the large outside living area we watched birds including acaris, and listened to howler monkeys. The on-site caretakers were friendly, most helpful, and gave us peace of mind at night and when we were away from the house. We will definitely return to stay again, and would recommend this property to anyone.

A Fantastic Vacation

Review submitted: March 19, 2012   Date of arrival: March 11, 2012

If you are looking for the great rental in Costa Rica, look no further. This house was fantastic. Every room is perfectly designed. The pictures don't do it justice, There are balconies off of every bedroom and it had a great living area. We loved this house and didn't want to leave.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon and immediately put on our swim suits and settled in. Luis cooked a delicious dinner for our family. It was so good, we asked him to cook another meal later in the week. Don't pass on this option!
Sonia at Uvita Tours took care of all of our activities from canopy zip lining, horseback riding on the beach, hiking in the rainforest, kayaking in the Pacific Ocean to massages at the house.
The housekeepers Juan and Glenda, were great. Juan took us to the waterfall near the house. We never would have found it without his help.

What a fantastic vacation! We can't wait to return to Casa Buendia!

Beautiful Time at Casa Buendia!!!

Review submitted: March 10, 2012   Date of arrival: March 1, 2012

Just returned back from an incredible stay at Casa Buendia with a group of 10. The house was amazing! Impeccably built with fantastic design elements. The views were unbelievable!!! Luis, the property manager was so kind and sweet- eager to help us with anything we may have needed. Juan and Glenda were on site the entire time and made us feel quite at home. The drive up to the house is a 10 minute adventure but well worth it. The infinity pool made it easy to just relax at the house in the morning and there was nothing better than coming home after a day out jumping in the pool and watching the sun set over the ocean. One week was not enough time at CB and we will definitely be back! Luis, Juan and Glenda made us awesome meals the first and last night, highly recommend as it's a great way to settle in and a fantastic send off. Thanks to everyone at CB for making our stay in Dominical a trip of a lifetime! Pura Vida!!

Spectacular House for a Spectacular Location!

Review submitted: February 21, 2012   Date of arrival: February 10, 2012

From arrival to departure it was first class the entire time. This property provided everything discerning travelers could need.

Secluded, manicured grounds. Highest quality furnishings. Picasso views from almost every window and venue. Colors that almost seems to fool the eye. From the infinity pool to the details in all of the rooms, virtually no expense has been spared. The outdoor shower and hot-tub in master bedroom are a romantic touch.

Every morning a perfect sunrise awakens you from the master bedroom, accompanied by a beautiful concert of howler monkeys and numerous fauna making a simple sunrise a symphony! Not to be out-done by the spectacular sunsets from several balcony vantage points. Nightfall drapes the property with a curtain of stars so bright they are mesmerizing.

From the property manager to the beautiful caretakers, it is very obvious everyone involved with Casa Buendia is there for the customer. Anything is possible. Gourmet local meals cooked to order. Provisioning. Arranging local tours and expeditions. Everything here is turn-key thanks to the owner's connections. On our second day here we took a 1/2 day fishing trip. Caught 5 Mackerel, saw several Hump Back Whales and learned how to cast...all in one day! By the way, the Mackerel on the palapa grill were fantastic!

One of the many things the property owner's know about is location. It may be 4x4 access to the property, but its proximity to many restaurants, grocery stores, activities etc... is perfect and convenient. Who would ever guess that after White Water Rafting you could have Escargot, Truffle Mushroom soup, or Filet Mignon in Costa Rica?

Don't miss this Gem of a home!

Great Home, Great Area!

Review submitted: January 9, 2012   Date of arrival: January 3, 2012

Dominical and its surrounding beaches are a great destination, especially for nature lovers, who will without a doubt enjoy all that the area has to offer (great beaches, lush forests and plenty on activities such as diving, snorkeling, whale and dolphin watching and more). Casa buen dia is a perfect compliment to the area. The homes' design makes the most out of the fantastic mountain and oceans views. The spaces are ample and our party of 10 was very comfortable there. The staff was helpful and kind. I would have given this home 5 stars but the AC was not in perfect working condition in one of the bedrooms, still we will definitely be returning!

Owners response: We have repaired the airconditioning unit, and all are working now. Thank you so much for the helpful feedback, we look forward to having you back as guests in the near future!

Casa Buendia couldn't be more perfect! The pictures do not do it justice. The booking process from start to finish with Vince was great. Taxi rides to and from the aiport were arranged for our group and arrived right on time (even though our flight from Miami did not HAHA.)
The location cannot be beat, and you will fall in love with the town of Dominical, at least I did. The caretakers on the property were so friendly and always smiling. I have never whitnessed such a loving and well behaved young boy that was always trying to help his dad with the chores.
Casa Buendia is the perfect vacation home and we cannot wait to return. You will always be our first choice!

I had the opportunity to stay in Casa Buendia for a few days during the month of June in 2009. I was astounded by the beauty of this place; breathtaking views of the ocean in 2 directions and a lush green and peaceful garden surrounding the home. This is a gorgeous house, with windows everywhere, beautiful decorations, and charming and comfortable bedrooms. It was such a luxurious place to stay. The owners and the on site staff are delightful, so helpful and easy to work with. My stay was absolutely everything I hoped for. The area too is such a wonderful place to visit in Costa Rica. The drive from the airport is gorgeous, and this home places you squarely in the middle of all kinds of exciting tourism opportunities. I think Dominical is one of the best cities to visit in Costa Rica!

Stunning House with Incredible View

Review submitted: November 28, 2010   Date of arrival: November 20, 2010

My husband and I stayed at Casabuendia for a week over Thanksgiving and had the most amazing time. We wanted to avoid the heavy tourist sites, attempt to have a more local experience, while enjoying the adventure and beauty of Costa Rica. Casabuendia provided us with this perfect combination. The house, a true architectural gem, is spacious, airy, well-decorated, and has amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. Though it's an easy drive from San Jose (less than 3 hours), the house is located in a secluded and peaceful area in the mountains but less than a 10 minute drive from the main road and 15 minutes from the beach. Within about 15 miles, we were able to take a whalewatching tour to Cano Island for snorkeling, zipline through primary and secondary rainforests, tour the mangroves to see macaws, monkeys and alligators, horseback ride to Nauyaca falls, relax on quiet beaches, and enjoy some excellent restaurants in Dominical and Ojachal. Another highlight of the trip was Luis, the warm and hospitable property manager, who helped familiarize us with the area, connect us with a tour operator, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our vacation special.

We highly recommend Casabuendia for a relaxing, adventurous and unforgettable experience in Costa Rica!

I had an absolutely wonderful stay. The view is stunning. The interior is beautifully designed and decorated. I felt like royalty. My favorite is the pool, which is perfect for kids, since most of it is shallow enough for them to stand. And of course the whole place looks out over the jungle and ocean. I know Costa Rica very well, and I would not even think of staying somewhere else next time.

"The house is spacious and comfortable with grand vistas of the rain forest and the Pacific Coastline. The floor plan of the house will accommodate a large group but still afford individual privacy and solitude if that is desired. The amenities are that of a modern home offering modern appliances and a swimming pool. The colorful flowers and tropical birds make any location on the property a spectacular vantage point.
The area of Dominical has a multitude of hiking trails leading to clear pools below cascading waterfalls. The beaches are secluded and offer spectacular evening sunsets over the Pacific. There are a good variety of restaurants to be found in the coastal villages along the coast highway within a short driving distance."
