Great Location with Everything Included

Review submitted: October 12, 2012   Date of arrival: September 16, 2012

The listing was a little confusing because when you look at one cottage, you see pictures of all the cottages, but they were all physically located next to each other.

We stayed in the Grandview Cottage. It was perfect for us. Great proximity to the beach, we walked there everyday - it was just around the corner! It was our dog's first road trip and their first trip to the beach. They were very skeptical about the beach but it was great that we could include them on our mini-vacay. The eclectially decorated cottage was equipped with everything we needed. Yes the cottages are old, but they have all the necessary amenities. From other reviews, we expected some sand on the floor, and there was-but it was no big deal. Besides, there was a dustpan and broom if it bothered us, which it didn't. We were there to be at the beach! Seriously, it's ok that a little beach came "home" with us.

We did get to meet Capt. Al, who was super friendly. There were plenty of shops and restaurants that were within walking distance. We choose to explore further by car, but we really didn't need to. Great location, fresh seafood nearby, reasonable rates! Thanks for a great time. Next time we'll have to stay longer!

Owners response: Dear Marianne:
Thank you for your kind unsolicited review. It was exactly what future guests should expect. I look forward to seeing you next time your in Clearwater Beach.

corner cottage

Review submitted: March 15, 2012   Date of arrival: March 1, 2012

We stayed at this cottage for one week. The place was not very clean, the floors were dirty, our feet were filthy everyday. And we are used to taking our shoes off when we enter a home. The bathroom sink would not drain, so you couldn't leave the water run for long. We were only given 2 bath towels each for a week stay. The furniture is old and uncomfortable. The curtains need to fixed and hung properly.
Would not stay here again for the money it cost us. Sorry but its the truth. I can deal with old, just not dirty.

Owners response: Dear Janet:
I apologize that you did not enjoy your stay at the Corner Cottage. Although these cottages are thoroughly cleaned prior to guest check in, sand does blow into them as we are so close to the beach. Sand does clog up drains too. My housekeepers and myself are onsite everyday and I am suprised that if you did want the floors swept again, or wanted more towels you did not ask for them at any time during your stay.
I do hope you enjoyed our beautiful beach, just down the block.

Good Times at Clearwater Beach Cottages

Review submitted: March 4, 2012   Date of arrival: February 10, 2012

The Hideaway Cottage was perfect for our needs. 6 adults, our 3 week old grandson and 2 dogs and we were quite comfortable. We wanted to spend some good quality time with our new grandson, family and friends and thats what we did. The cottage is beachside and the beach is a stones throw away so we spent alot of time on the beach. Pier 60 is a couple blocks away and its worth the short walk to see the arts, crafts and activities. Sunset Celebration there every night. My wife loved the stores along Mandalay Ave on the way to the Pier. Food of all kinds everywhere you look; bar across the street, pizza on the corner. It was great! Our hosts, Capt Al, Rodney and Gayle were great and a phone call away. I highly recommend this place if you want a simpler more down to earth stay.I would happily stay here again.

Good Times w/ family and friends @ the Hideaway

Review submitted: March 4, 2012   Date of arrival: February 10, 2012

We, 6 adults, 1 newborn baby and 2 dogs had a great time here! Within a walk thru the courtyard of the beach view and a couple hundred feet you're on the beautiful shell covered beach of Clearwater itself. We rode bikes (provided) and walked the the few blocks of Mandalay Ave to Pier 60 where there is a Sunset Celebration everynight and the sunsets here are awesome! The stores and window shopping along the way are well worth the short walk. Our hosts were always readily available and the cottage was quite comfortable with all the ammenities to drop your bags and hit the beach. Towels, kitchen utensils and linens are all provided. The kitchen could use a cookie sheet but there were pots and pans of all sizes. I know that if I had of asked for a cookie sheet one would have been provided because the hosts are that good and a phone call away! So would I stay here again? In a heartbeat! Would I recommend this place to a friend? Without hesitation! What would I stress with my recommendation? If you want room service and the fancy stay stuff go to the Hilton; but if you want to have quality time with your companion, friends and/or family, and enjoy being beachside and within a few hundred steps of standing in the sand and a down home kind of atmosphere... this is the place!! Thankyou for a our stay at the beach! We met our 3 week old grandson and had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Hideaway Cottage very much!

WE LOVE THE COTTAGES!!!!!

Review submitted: July 7, 2011   Date of arrival: July 11, 2009

Our family have stayed at the cottages at least 3 times, if you are looking for "the Ritz" look elsewhere! If you are looking for a FABULOUS family vacation then this is the place! The cottages are 100 years old, when you get there you feel relaxed immediately! It's a fairly quiet neighborhood, and literally steps from the beach! You can go to the beach in the morning, back to the cottage for lunch, and walk back to the beach in minutes! My kids LOVE IT! My dogs LOVE IT, and my husband and I LOVE IT!!! It is a TRUE relaxing beach vacation!

Owners response: Dear Melissa:
Thank you for your unsolicited accurate review. Funny thing is our repeat Florida Guests love Clearwater Beach and love the Cottages. Must be something special about Floridians. Next visit, don't forget to ask Capt. Al for a courtesy boat trip to Honeymoon and Caladesi Island.

Not What We Were Expecting

Review submitted: May 5, 2011   Date of arrival: April 23, 2011

When viewing the photos online, we were not expecting to show up and see what we saw. The pictures make these places look much nicer than they actually are. From the outside they are not appealing at all. The inside was fairly clean, however, the shower was very unattractive and several insects were found in the kitchen area throughout the week. The property was equipped with some kitchen utensils but not everything that you would expect. We were most dissappointed that there was not a shared swimming pool on the property. On one of the web sites that we viewed, it does not give a clear explanation, that the pool you can use is a community pool that is down the road and you would need to pay $7 to get in and use it for the day. Needless to say the kids were very disappointed. They spent much more time in the ocean that week!

Recommended for: age 55+, pet-friendly, tourists without a car

Owners response: There is no swimming pool on the property
Dear Guests:
When you first checked in you asked me where the pool was and I explained that the Clearwater Community pool is 3 blocks over. You had insisted that you googled pool hotels in Clearwater and the Cottages came up. When we went to the office and reviewed all the advertisements for Clearwater Cottages it was very apparent that it said Clearwater community Pool. At that time you had the option of not staying, but choose to do so with the 6 adults and 4 children and three big dogs at a very good rate. . The hotels with pools simply don't take pets.
I am indeed sorry that your kids were disappointed that there was no pool. Most guests choose to stay at the cottages for the proximity to the beach 200-500 steps, the incredible value, and that we accept pets.
On the positive note, your children from Wisconsin got to enjoy swimming in the warm , clean , beautiful Gulf of Mexico, your dogs got to run free on the beach, and your friends all had their own bedroom in the Hideaway Cottage with the Kingsize bed, queen bed, two full beds, all for less than the Hotel with pool would charge for one bedroom for the week.
We also offer free passes to the Clearwater Community Pool for guests who stay one week, all you have to do is ask for them and the entrance fee is only $1.70 for residence and Guests who stay at our Resort.

Worst Ever!!

Review submitted: April 27, 2011   Date of arrival: April 21, 2011

The cottage has got to be atleast 50 years old and the furniture and accessories are dated as well including the beds and linens. Old painted kitchen table with mismatched dated dining chairs. Fortunately we had our own bedding linens, towels and pillows. No internet access available.

Bathroom sink did not drain well.

The coffee maker was so dirty and gross, we could not use it. Mismatched dishes, mugs and glasses. Doesn't all of this make a statement about the place?

I would not even give this place one star.

Located in an extremely dated area of Clearwater Beach.
The only plus was the beach.

Owners response: The Corner Cottage is more than 50 years old, its almost 100 years old, however the furniture and beds, as well as mattresses were replaced within the past 3 years. It was not necessary to bring your own linens and towels, or pillows as all of ours are new and we have 2 commercial washers and dryers on the premises and a full time housekeeping staff. Sand does have a way of causing slow draining at the beach, that is why we ask guests to shake off the sand before getting in the shower. The only thing dated about this part of Clearwater Beach is that the Sandpearl Hotel was just built there 3 blocks from us and about $379 per night, also our beach is rated best city beach in America. Our Cottages are fun, funky, and artsy, for $99 a night you get to enjoy the same beach as Guests who pay 3-5 times that amount at the Sandpearl Hotel and Hilton both within 5 walking blocks. Our Cottages are not for upscale, well heeled travelers. They are for families with children and pets who want sand in their toes, and dont mind if a little gets on the floor in their cottage. Oh, never had a single complaint while you were there or even did anyone ask for help with access to the internet. We want Guests who want to have fun, enjoy the beach, relax, and make new friends and want a great beach vacation with good value. ( I would like to point out to our future guests that all of these guests in one group wrote poor reviews when I was threatened that I would get poor review if I did not adjust their bill which I did not. Please look at the photos, which tell the trust, and see my other properties at vrbo.com/238940 and vrbo.com/238940 for more positive reviews.
Lastly, I realize that the Cottages may not be for Guests that have the expectations of perfection that they may get at the Sandpearl, Hilton, and Marriot Hotels, so once you arrive at the Cottages,if they are not your style, we will provide a new condo suite at the check in Motel, Blue Wave Motel, which does deliver the high expectations some travelers require.

In Desperate Need of Cleaning and re-model!

Review submitted: April 17, 2011   Date of arrival: April 13, 2011

One of the worst beach properties we have ever rented anywhere in 25 years! The "cottage" is completely run down and in need of everything being upgraded. The entire "cottage is dirty and dusty. I have showered in better showers at a RV park than this one.."gross". The bed is squeaky and very uncomfortable and the bedding didn't fit correctly and felt as if it wasn't washed and is very old and mismatched. We were supplied 3 towels and 2 wash clothes for a 5 day stay for 2 adults! The TV's are very old and the sound quality is horrible. Could not even hear the tv over the extremely noisy air conditioner (which runs constantly) that is mounted above your head as you sit on the couch in the living room. If you rent this "cottage" you would rent it for the location. Short walk to the beach, but quite a long walk if you want to go to the public beach entrance where all the action and restaurants are located. Parking is a nightmare so walking is the best way to get around.

Owners response: Like I said, when the Guest wants a reduced price they threaten us with a bad review. Although this Guest never called for any service the entire stay , I would not give her a reduced price upon check out, because of the flyer with discounted walk in special. The TV and air conditioner has been replaced since this review. I agree it was loud, and the TV speaker was broken. The Cottage as she described is a short walk to the beach, 300 steps, but a long walk (7 blocks) from the public beach where all the action and restaurants are. Guests who want all the action, and noise , and traffic should stay at the Hilton Hotel and Holiday Inn and Shepards Beach Resort. You will have all the noise, tourists, day trippers and traffic jams. Parking is, as this guest said, a nightmare, that's why we recommend you park your car, free parking at the cottages, and walk everywhere. We please a lot of people, but can't please everyone. Our new policy is if the cottage is not what you want, we will provide a new condo suite at our business office bluewavemotel.com and adjust the rate down. Cottages are great for families, but some of our upscale guests prefer the condos. We are here to make sure our guests are satisfied.

Pineapple Cottage- March 2011

Review submitted: March 31, 2011   Date of arrival: March 8, 2011

We stayed in the 'Pineapple Cottage', which was really more of an apartment than a cottage.
Positives: It was literally steps to an amazing beach (not too crowded) and a close walk to the shops and restaurants at the north end of Clearwater Beach. The cottage was clean and had all the basic supplies, the staff at the Blue Wave Motel were very helpful and friendly (offer support to the cottage). The beds very both very comfortable and the heating (yes we needed it one night) and air conditioning worked well. The pizza place around the corner was great.
The one Downside was seating. The cottage comfortably slept 4 but the breakfast bar only had 2 bar stools and there was only one couch in the living room which comfortably sat 2 or sweezed 3. This made it difficult to sit together and eat a meal or to play cards or watch TV.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Thanks for staying with us, we know you guys had a great time. On the positive side Canadians always send us a review or thank you card, either you guys north of the border are just great or you really appreciate the warm weather in Florida. Second, next year we are going give you the biggest cottage we have (if you don't wait until the last minute to book)

My wife and 2 young children stayed at the Corner Cottage. It was on the Corner, but most important on the corner with a view of the Gulf of Mexico. We stepped outside and there it was about 5 houses down, we walked past the other cottages and were on the powdery sand of what they call best beach in America. And it was. lots of clean sand, beautiful clear water and everyday we would take a morning walk to the north end of the island where the mansions ended and it was just sand and water all around. Perfect location away from the noisy hotels and tourist district, yet only 10 minutes walk when we were hungry. There was a full kitchen with french windows overlooking the front yard. This cottage was a cute little house with everything you could need to stay a week with the kids. DVD, two TVs, wifi, cute comfy sofa bed. It had tile floors so it was really clean for my little ones. Beach chairs and BBQ right outside the front door. What more could you ask for. A perfect beach family vacation rental house. Hope to return soon with my friends next year.

My family get together at the Cottages

Review submitted: March 11, 2010   Date of arrival: January 23, 2010

We had our Xmas family reunion at the Cottages. We stayed in the Corner Cottage, which felt like a little house. We had a full kitchen which was great as we cooked for the family and had a great reunion. With the beach just down the block we spent a lot of time just walking back and forth. Early morning we enjoyed our walk and evening we watched the sunset. How wonderful. The rest of the family enjoyed two of the other cottages. Being able to walk to wonderfull out door restuarants from the cottages was nice. Palm Pavillion, Frenchy's and Pier 60 were just all a few blocks away. I would highly recommend the Cottages for a unique family beach get away. Robert Allen
