Spring Trip with Family

TripFool (Melissa, TX)
Review submitted: April 19, 2013   Date of arrival: March 14, 2013

Wonderful 3 night trip mid March, 6 adults - 2 children ages 10 and 14. Did not rent the cottage. Used two of the roll away beds for the kids. Just one shower, the master having tub only. So plan accordingly if you are a larger group and only rent the house. Plenty of towels and linens for the group, just remember they do ask that you wash before leaving. Plenty of washing liquid and dryer sheets in the laundry room. We brought our own sheets so we could save time on the last morning. We also brought paper products for the kitchen like paper plates, cups, etc. But, just our choice. There were plenty of kitchen items available for use. Used a few pots and pans for some indoor meals. Plenty of trash bags supplied and trash cans located outside as well. The inside of the house was clean, all areas. Outside furniture had a little dirt and dust on them. Remember, this is a house on a lake and outdoor furniture will get a little dirty in the weather. There are cleaning products in the house or bring your own and wipe it down if it bothers you. If you want a relaxing get away on a nice piece of property and a nice home + fishing, and not looking for a 5 star hotel in a city with a maid, then you will enjoy this place! We had beautiful spring weather. A little early in the season for great fishing, but we did catch a variety of fish in small numbers each day. There is a place for bait just a couple of miles down the road called Pickers. Lots of outdoor furniture including chairs, tables, swings and a hammock! Plenty of lights located down the walkways/stairs, deck over the water and at the outside bar and around the the house. Having the large ice machine outside on the lower level was awesome!! No constant trips to the store for ice for the ice chests. There is also a restroom outside off the walkway deck which also very convenient. There is more than one charcoal grill to choose from in different areas outside. If you want great seafood, drive about 4.5 miles N on LA1 to Truck Stop/Video Poker/Restaurant-Cash Magic and Sam’s Southern Eatery. At the intersection of LA1 & LA2. Huge portions, cooked perfectly and waitress was very nice. The groundskeeper Johnny met us at the property when we arrived, lives nearby & was very helpful for anything we needed or questions. The owner is also nice, easy to work with & answered many questions for us before our trip. We would definitely rent this property again in the future when visting Caddo Lake!

We feel like we hit the jackpot of rentals with this Lake House. Provided for us was just about anything we needed. Blankets, bedding, towels, toiletries, dishes, grilling seasonings, syrup, and even board games were available. The kids had a blast riding bikes on the long driveway and rolling down the little hill in the backyard. We all enjoyed the ENORMOUS walkway and pavillion leading to the huge dock. As a mom, I really appreciated the railings that prevented the little ones from falling overboard while fishing. We enjoyed the house so much that we never felt the need to venture off to site see. It was very easy to take the boat out on the lake. When we needed a few groceries, there was a Shell and Dollar General 5 minutes away. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner was always quick to answer my questions. We look forward to renting this house again.

Caddo Lake Property

Ro (Colorado)
Review submitted: September 10, 2012   Date of arrival: August 5, 2012

First and foremost, the house overall was very dirty & greasy. All of the toilets were dirty & had rings in them indicating that they hadn't been cleaned for a very long time; The linen closet was a jumbled mess; The master bathroom had no shower; The main bathroom was dark, dirty & had no where to hang a towel or anything else; it felt like you were showering in the dark; the walls had streak marks on them from condensation; The main living area was full of dust & cobwebs & all the taxidermied animals had cobwebs & bugs on them. The ceiling fans were unusable due to all the dust on them; The kitchen cabinets were very greasy and grimy. There were many food items there for us to use but we didn't use them because they were either open & not stored properly or expired. I appreciate the fact that others leave items to be used but the owner or whoever cleans the place needs to go through them and determine what is good and not. Speaking of who cleans, i would venture to say that no one really ever cleans the place - they just wash whatever linens are left, make the beds and call it a day. If someone is paid to 'clean,' it's wasted money. It was extremely disappointing to rent a dirty house. Although it was stated in the welcome letter that there was a shaved ice machine & to bring our favorite flavors, it too had bugs & cobwebs all throughout it & we couldn't use it. The photos of everything were obviously taken in better days. The outdoor furniture was old and dirty and everything was covered in bugs & cobwebs. I know that bugs & spiders are prevelant but nothing had been cleaned off in a very long time. I don't know if we would have used the outdoor kitchen much but after seeing its condition, there was no way we would use it. It was filthy. By advertising it as an outdoor kitchen you're stretching the truth by quite a bit. We all felt that August in Louisiana would be ok as we could jump in the lake when we were hot but it's not a 'swimming' lake from the house/deck. When the outside toilet backed up into the cottage's shower it was cleaned by me. I feel like you really need to make some amendments to your advertising on VRBO as I believe it is NOT fully factual. A very disappointing rental.

Owners response: Thank you for posting your coments, your complaints about the house have not gone to deft ears, we have made changes in the cleaning crew. Although not the type of comments I am used to reading on the site, I thank you for letting me know; this is not my regular home nor I live near by and I rely on help to do a lot of things in regards to readiness for the guests. Unless the guests tells us, we would not know about this things.
I have to mention though, in regards to your coment about the furniture, the house underwent extensive remodeling outside and inside.
The pictures are acurate, all the furniture in the living room and kitchen was purchased 2 years ago. The floor was changed through out the house. The bedroom furniture is also the same that it is in the pictures.

I am very sorry, your vacation was not what you had hope for. I would have liked to know all of these when you were at the house; perhaps I could have done something.

To others interested in the house:

1.The outdoor kitchen consists of a bar styled area with stools, a deep fryer, sink, 2 small refirgerators, and an electrical stove (2 burners I believe), 2 tv's - there's a picture in the website.
2.Bugs are abundant in Caddo Lake
3. Although Caddo Lake is a beutiful Lake, not all of it can be a good swimming spot. The front of our house is not. You cannot dive at any point in this lake, too many trees. If you bring a boat and many guests do, there are several points near by you can have a good day in the water and pull a tube, skis etc. we can provide you with a map upon request.
4. Caddo Lake is for the most part a fishing lake. It's abundant with catfish, crappie, bass and other fresh water fish. Many of those you can catch from the pier.
5. If you have any questions about the house or what's available, please call us, we'll be happy to answer your questions and help you decide if the Lake House is the right place for you.

Once more thank you for your comments,

owner,

Caddo Lake House Rental

Susan B. ()
Review submitted: July 30, 2012   Date of arrival: July 18, 2012

The house is a great venue for families, the deck is impressive and of course Caddo Lake is wonderful.
The house has a lot of potential of being a nice place to rent, but it was dirty. The oven was very dirty--like it had not been cleaned in years. The kitchen cabinets were dirty, the cabinets were not organized and very messy--shelf paper was either missing or wrinkled up. The windows and glass doors were dirty with lots of smudges. The toliets were dirty and stained by years of neglect. The floors were clean for the most part, but in corners and underneath they were dusty and dirty. Window sills were covered in dirt. The house has a large selection of prize--stuffed game animals--spider webs were hanging off of them. The stone fireplace was covered in cobwebs. The outside deck is very impressive, but the outside furniture was filthy. We had to clean the tables, chairs and swings before using them.
It is a great house and wonderful family enviornment. The owners just need to do some serious spring cleaning.

Owners response: Thank you for posting your review. I have taken note of all your comments and we are in the process of selecting a new cleaning crew. I am terribly sorry you did not have a 5 star experience. I will contact you directly about this.
To potential future guests, all I can say is that we are remedying the situation.
Regards,
Owner

One Word - WONDERFUL!!!!!

Review submitted: September 8, 2011   Date of arrival: September 2, 2011

This house is so full of amenities, I don't know where to start! We rented this beautiful lakehouse for my husband's birthday which also falls within the Labor Day weekend. We read all the reviews prior to renting but were still overwhelmed with how well-stocked the house was. The kitchen has at least one of every seasoning/spice you could want. There are pots/pans/dishes/glasses/silverware galore! Trust me, the only thing you need to bring is whatever food you plan to prepare. If by chance you forget something, take a look in a cabinet before running to a store because its probably there!

There were all kinds of games for the kids. There were even toys that our 2 year old granddaughter could play with! The outdoor kitchen was my favorite spot to hang out. There are televisions (yes outdoors) for watching, burners for cooking and a hugh fryer for the "catch of the day!" The standing "cooler" housed the water and fruit drinks for the kids. There's even a snow cone machine for the little ones, just bring the cups and syrup! The outdoor bathroom is tastifully decorated and so convenient to the outdoor kitchen and fishing docks.

The owners have thought of everything you may possibly want or need. To my surprise, there was even a laptop - yes, a laptop and printer for our use! My computer stayed in its case the entire weekend! This place is top of the line all the way! Thank you Glen and Tita for a beautiful and unforgettable stay!

Last but not least, I send a special shout out to the neighbors on the left! Thanks so much for the batteries!

Everything It Says It Is!

Randy (Wichita Falls, Texas)
Review submitted: July 16, 2011   Date of arrival: July 6, 2011

This beautiful vacation home is everything it is presented to be...and THEN some!

Each year a few of my lifelong friends and I -- along with our wives -- get together for a summer reunion at different places in the region and this year Caddo Lake was chosen. Although my own family annually stays on the Texas side, one of the wives had done some searching on-line for place large enough to accomodate all eight of us, and found this one in Louisiana. We were all immediately impressed by the pictures and what we read, but I was just a little skeptical at first it could really be "all that"...as the kids say!

Well, I stand corrected! LOL We arrived first and were instantly impressed from the moment we opened the front door of the main house. And it just got more so as we took an initial tour of the ever-winding deck and its various levels, the outdoor "sports bar", the seperate cottage, and the lakeview!

The rest of the bunch arrived a bit later, and the first words I spoke to them were "Y'all are NOT going to be disappointed!". That was quite an understatement! As we looked and explored everything over in more detail, we were all just awed by the size and luxury and features of the house, the beauty of the property and lakeview and -- of special note -- the lakeside area dock/deck/pier maze. This latter has so many various levels and features (including an outdoor bathoom and ice-maker located next to the "sports-bar..both of which can be quite handy!) that I am STILL not sure if we saw all of it! *whew*. (if you bring young kids or grandkids, they will have a ball playing hide-n-go-seek and/or chasing each other around on it! LOL).

And of course, the outdoor bar gazebo referred to earlier deserves a special mention with its "kitchen" features (refrigerator, sinks, stove, deep-fryer, etc). We spent a lot of time out there at night just talking, having a drink or several, and catching the breeze and from the largest and most beautiful natural lake in the South.

As one of the wives said for comment: "How relaxing, so nice to be able to go from the deck upstairs, to the bar area and then down to the lake deck with hammock...many different areas to hang out in....the house itself was gorgeous and well-stocked. We had a blast!" Yep, we did...and will DEFINTELY be back!

Finally, I want to mention how helpful and friendly were the neighbors to the left (facing the road). I would definitely recommend this place. It deserves SIX stars!

This house is not only beautiful, but it is unique. The interior design is filled with conversation pieces and fascinating artifacts. There is an awesome plasma screen TV for those members of your party who aren't so into fishing or sitting on the spacious back deck. The decks alone are incredible. They wind all along the back of the house, opening into private sitting areas, a sports bar, ice machine, and fishing piers. If your forgot something back home, have no fear! It's probably in a cabinet somewhere! Best of all, this place is located in a serene neighborhood with extremely friendly people all around. We caught a bunch of big catfish, and we enjoyed ourselves doing nothing but hanging out at the house. Thanks!

We had a small family reunion here of approx. 12 people over the weekend and had an amazing time. We fished off the bank and caught very large catfish. I would say they were at least 3 lbs catfish. The huge deck is so accomodating for hanging out and lounging around with all the shaded seating areas. There's even a restsroom on the deck so that you don't have to walk back up to the house. That was very nice! The house is clean and nicely decorated. The beds and sheets were very comfortable. I left my camera charger and battert plugged into the wall and the owners had someone find it and mail it to me free of charge. I thought was so nice of them. My family and I made some really great memories at this house and I would defintely come back!

Great Family Getaway

Sheryl B. (Dallas)
Review submitted: June 12, 2011   Date of arrival: June 7, 2011

This was far above our expectations! We just returned from a 5-night stay. The first 3 nights were with our 3-year old granddaughter and it was a perfect setup for her to play and have fun. The last 2 days the rest of the family arrived and there was still plenty of room to enjoy sitting around visiting, playing games, etc.

We found out about several great attractions nearby to entertain the little one. We can strongly recommend the Jubilee Zoo (about 15 minutes away), the Riverboat Cruise and splash fountains at Sci-Port in Bossier City, and Poverty Hill Pick-Your-Own Blueberry Farm (about 15 minutes away). We could have gone swimming right off the dock but it seemed a bit too challenging for the granddaughter so we went up LA-1 a very short distance to a great park and swimming area and had a blast. Right at the house we spent lots of time fishing and even splashed in the "waterfall" off the boat house. The deck/dock is beyond fabulous!

I love to cook so I had a great time preparing our meals in the kitchen since it was so well stocked. And having a washer/dryer so we didn't have to bring dirty clothes home was another great bonus.

This was such great place we are thinking about a planning a repeat!

Our entire group was thoroughly impressed with the lake home. The owners have thought of every amenity you could ask for. There home is stocked full of everything you need for a getaway, with plenty of sleeping space, bedding, condiments, etc. The home is very clean and the remodel is exceptional. There was plenty of entertainment both indoor and outdoor. From board games for the family and kids, to the latest gaming system. The deck and fishing dock are shockingly large. Great fishing from the dock, the owners have provided all the fishing gear you need if you don't have your own. All in all, this is an exceptional property for a great getaway.

Thanks again!!!

Great Experience!

Visitors from South Louisiana (Kaplan, LA)
Review submitted: July 17, 2010   Date of arrival: July 14, 2010

Our family just got back from spending a few days at the Lake House. It was an unbelievable experience from start to finish. The owner is outstanding! He was easily accessible by phone and was willing to answer any questions or help us in any way. He made us feel like his priority was making sure our stay was as pleasurable as possible. When he says you only need to bring your clothes, food, and beverages...he's right. Everything else from linens and kitchenware to board games and fishing poles is provided. The house was extremely clean, comfortable, and spacious. The amenities are exactly as they are described online. The entire outside area is awesome! It provides plenty of room, shade, and outdoor fans for everyone to feel comfortable, as well as plenty of seating and table space. The lake is unbelievably clean and calm. The kids swam, tubed, and fished the entire time we were there. The cypress trees are picture perfect. I can't comment on the nearby activities and attractions because we never had to leave the house except to restock on bait. I would definately recommend this place. As a matter of fact, we are already trying to make plans for another visit. What a treasure we've found!
Advice: Bring a boat and life jackets
Don't waste space in your vehicle with extra pillows and blankets...they're not needed
Bring an air mattress if you need more sleeping space (but there is also a pull out cot and 4
sofas)
Don't overpack clothes...there is a large front load washer and dryer for laundry
If you have very young children, be aware...there are lots and lots of stairs outside
If you catch fish, fry them...the commercial fryer and outdoor kitchen area are perfect for it
Stay for more than 2 nights if you can

My family and I traveled to East Texas, with my mother in law and golden retriever for a property we reserved in April to find it had sold and we had not been made aware of it. You really went out of the way for us and while our trip was shortened, it could not have been better!

The house and entire property, you just have to see to understand! The kids loved fishing from the dock and cooking and setting out at the bar listening to music. This is a very family friendly place with great owners.

We will be booking the first week shool is out for next year!
