Very convenient location

We walked everywhere, to the beach, supermarket, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, restaurants. Very relaxing.

Owners response: Kailua is a wonderful place to stay, Pres. Obama loves it. We have 3 miles of beautiful white sand and beautiful turqoise waters. It is a great lovely beach. The unit now has a table and 2 chairs. Only a very, very small but vocal minority dislikes rentals. Everyone realizes it helps the Kailua economy and small businesses, beach rentals, ie. kayaks, windsurfers and are very friendly and helpful. We've also upgraded to the best double pane windows to block noise and they're nice too, obscure on the bottom for privacy and clear on top to see the sky and trees outdoors.

Loved our Stay here.

We stayed for 8 nights in this studio. Had everything we needed and then some. Never got to meet the owner's and only met one of the other tenants when we came home one evening and he had a problem with where to go to get to his unit. Other then that we felt like we were there all by ourselves. Really relaxing. Great spot for us we had family staying on Bellows and a brother in Waimanalo. Perfect location for everything on the island. We travel to Hawaii every couple of years and will look into renting here again. Mahalo Dan and Sue

Owners response: Thank you very much for your nice comments. Kailua is a wonderful place with the best beach, water and sand! We are out a lot and respect everyone's privacy but always avail by email or phone if any assistance is needed. We would love to welcome you back with a loyal renter discount. Thanks for being so friendly and helpful. :-)! Much aloha until we meet again and Happy Holidays!

A wonderful experience

We really enjoyed our 2 weeks in the Ginger Suite! We walked everywhere - to the beach, to town - and didn't spend a lot of time in the room - which is the reason it was such a great deal. Ron was so helpful and friendly, and the property was clean and well maintained. The photo did not accurately reflect the appearance of the room, but it really didn't matter. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to any of our friends or relatives who would not expect to be staying at a posh resort. When we come to the Islands we like to come to Kailua for its laid-back, small-town feel and the beautiful beach. We will absolutely come back to the Ginger Suite (hopefully Ron and Sue will have this property for years to come)!

Recommended for: age 55+, tourists without a car

Owners response: Thank you very much. We certainly enjoyed having you as our welcomed guests. We put forth our best efforts to make everyone's experience an enjoyable one. You may recall however, that this original unit you inquired about was not available so we referred you to homeaway.com 320339. I believe you will agree that the unit you actually stayed in matches this listing and not the original one, which was booked. Thanks again. Aloha, Sue and Ron

Great place, great location

We really enjoyed our stay here. We have a lot of privacy and everything we needed. We walked to the beach and town. On Thirsday we walked to a Farmers Market, it was a lot of fun seeing the local produce and flowers. We bought a nice orchid for $10 for our room, a pineapple, bananas, papaya. And an avocado. Yummy! I highly recommend this place, it was a very good value, ESP. After going to Italy in December where the rooms are much smaller and the cost 2x more with no frills. There was a refrig and small appliances for light cooking. We mare coffee 3 days and walked down to the beach 4 days and bought coffee and scones at the market there! It was a wonderful vacation.

Very nice enjoyable visit

We had a very nice time. The listing was accurate. The place was one of the cleanest we've been to. We appreciated the amenities for light cooking and made our coffee each morning and enjoyed it on the small lanai. This is a nice central location between the beach and stores. We stopped at the supermarket on our way to our rental for a few supplies. It was very convenient. The owners respected our privacy but was there to give us suggestions if we asked. We would highly recommend this place.

Owners response: Thank you very much Mark. We enjoyed having such friendly, considerate guests! Aloha!

Quiet and Private living in Kailua, HI

Review submitted: March 29, 2011   Date of arrival: March 16, 2011

I'm originally from Hawaii and I had no intention of staying in Waikiki where most of the hotels are located. I found this cozy studio listing online and it was perfect for what I was looking for. The studio is located in Kailua and I loved the quietness and privacy. The studio was perfectly sized and had all the essentials that we needed.

I would highly recommend this studio if you're familiar with the area and if you want some peace and quiet.

Owners response: Thank you very much Stephanie, for your kind words. We sincerely appreciate it since we try our best to have a comfortable, clean and pleasant experience for our guest. You were so nice!

Great bargain, walked to the beach

Review submitted: March 2, 2011   Date of arrival: January 1, 2011

This was a great bargain. I stayed in Waikiki before, but now I will stay here. It is cooler and more relaxing. The beach and sand is nicer. The price was cheaper than Waikiki and for the comparable price, the room was larger and had much more amenities. We sat in the small lanai at nite and it was very cool. The room had brand new double pane windows that kept it very quiet when we wanted to. We hardly needed the ac, and used the ceiling fan as we are "green" people like the owners. We helped recycle our trash, cans and bottles and felt happy helping mother earth. We enjoyed seeing the chinese dogs at the front of the house and the nice buddha and angel statues in the garden. We walked to the beach everyday. We had a coffee maker but walked to Starbucks (3 blocks) a couple days. We loved Buzz's Steakhouse island atmosphere- $10 dinner salad bar recommended by the owner, Sue. We walked to the beach and on the way 1day, we rented a kayak for 2 and paddled around all day. Then came and ate shaved ice at Island Snow where Pres. Obama ate shaved ice. It felt historical. We vacation in Hawaii 1ce are year and will definitely return to this nice place.

Owners response: Thank you very much. We enjoyed having such happy pleasant guests! We try to envision what we would need/like on our vacation and try to provide it ie., the scale to help weigh your suitcase, so no need to reshuffle at the airport and an iron and hairdryer so you don't need to bring any and travel lighter! :-) It was a pleasure. Aloha!

I stayed in room D-2 from May 07 until May 14, 2010 and I had a wonderful time. Only met the owner once for a brief time. The room had everything I needed and it was away from all the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. Great place to relax and enjoy my vacation in paradies. Would return any time. Next time, I will bring both my kids so they can enjoy their piece of paradies as well. Thank you for everything.

Owners response: Vera was a wonderful, considerate guest. Thank you very much for your positive comments. We love to relax and enjoy Hawaii in our home and Kailua Beach and are so happy to share this with like minded guests. Aloha!

great place for the price.

We felt it was a good deal with kitchenette for our light cooking. It was one of the cleanest places we're rented, and everything well maintained. It was close to everything-- we walked to the beach and shops. It looks just like the photos. It's cozy as we found most places in Hawaii are. There was a small table and chairs for inside seating. One night we sat under the trees and watched the stars. We had a great time and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

great location. walked to the beach.

The description was very accurate. It was nicely decorated with a queen bed and a table and chair. We asked for another chair and was promptly given one. It even had an iron and hair dryer so we didn't have to bring them in our luggage.
It was a very central location, close to the beach and close to shops, restaurants and the supermarket. Everyday we walked to the beach. Once we even got up early to see the sunrise over the ocean which we can't see at home.
One day we took the bus for fun around the island for only $2, and the bus stop was only a 1/2 block away. We went to Don Quiote's department store which had everything a vacationer needs, snorkel/mask, boogie boards, souvenirs, postcards.
The property was one of the cleanest we've been to, and well maintained. There were fun windchimes hanging from the tree and ceramic turtles and angels in the foliage. The owner works so was not home, but she was very friendly and helpful and available by phone for any questions or suggestions of where to go or eat. I would recommend this rental. It's an excellent value and we had a happy vacation here.

Very good

It was a nice little place to stay. Owner gave total privacy we didn't see her once the entire stay. Very clean and supplied with just about everything you might need. Good location about a 1 mile walk from the beach. There are many things to do within walking distance in Kailua. Close to the Marine Corps Base. I would recommend this place to a quiet couple young (we were 20 and 22) or old or a person staying alone. We would probably stay there again.

Small, clean, private, on busy street, walk/bike

kleis (seattle, WA)
Review submitted: December 28, 2007   Date of arrival: November 1, 2007

We love Kailua beach, but no hotels, so rentals are the only option. (Locals dislike all the rentals.) Rent one of three private rooms behind locked side yard gate, shared wall with owners home. It is on Kailua Dr., noisy car traffic. Close to walk/bike/drive to town or beaches, and coffee. Park right in the driveway.
The bed is fine, no table or chairs, small TV. Sink, micro, refrig., laundry right outside. Drive to anyplace, easy. Bikes are marginal, but we used often. Owners helpful, if you ask. You have privacy.
