Post Card Setting

Review submitted: December 29, 2012   Date of arrival: November 25, 2012

We are 2 families with 4 children ages 6 to 12 that go to different beach front homes every year. We have seen many islands through the years and stayed at other wonderful houses. This one exceeds them all. Spent 9 days here. The island has more activities than any other for all ages. We zip lined, went on a fabulous catermeran tour to Culebra, Deep sea fishing, Jet skiing, Atv Tour, Roasted Pork in Guavate (in the middle of Carite Rain forest) Hiked El Junke Rain Forest and ate at family owed restaurants along the southern coast. Coming back to this home and location was the highlight. House is clean and impeccably taken care of. Large rooms and very comfortable beds. Back yard is like what you see on a post card. There is a Cabana with BBQ and bar that lights up the ocean front at night. Our remaining days when not exploring were spent here. Kids played in the water. very small waves and crystal clear. Got sun, lazed in the hammocks' under the canopy of Palms and snorkeled right in the back yard. This is the first time we are actually thinking of returning to the same location. Everyday was new and exciting. The weather was amazing the sea in the back yard was warm and inviting. The beaches were private an untouched unlike any other we have been too. The management was with such a personal touch. I can not say enough about the attention Irene gave us in helping us to get to our excursions easily. Sherry the owner made the booking process a breeze. Well we loved every bit of our stay. Like so many other all we can say is if you are reading this you should look no further. This little spot can not be beat. Price wise there were 9 of us staying in a 5 star...4 bedroom custom beachfront Caribbean home at rates that enabled us to do all our activities that just accommodations usually cost. You will find yourself home in paradise. There is no doubt why Sherry has the number one rental on the island. For us it is the number 1 rental in the Caribbean. We highly recommend this unique top quality vacation getaway.

Owners response: What a great review! Thank you. I just won another award for best oceanfront family home and most booked in all of Puerto Rico. This award was given because my management is the best. They take excellent care of you my guests (as you mentioned several times Rick:). I take care of the booking and they make sure you come to a spotlessly clean home. It's reviews like this and people like you who have taken the time to write them that got my property these awards as well. It helps those out there like you trying to find a quality home for their special vacation time. Many come to my home to get away and relax from the hustle bustle of life. They love it there too. Staying in the yard all week I personally find very tranquil when I am there as well. But I find that action packed guests like you who go out and explore the island have the best time. Thank you so much again! You will always be welcomed back to my sea shore gem on the southern coast of Puerto Rico.

Family Reunion of 17 in a Perfect Paradise

Review submitted: January 7, 2011   Date of arrival: December 8, 2010

We are a family of 9 adults and 8 children ages 12 thru 19. We gathered together from every part of the United States for the holidays. We really wanted to stay somewhere that gave us time to reconnect. A space we could call our own and not have to share with others. We started with looking for rentals that could fit all of us. A tall order for our wish list. We decided to rent both Casa Caribe Del Mar and Casa Caribe Del Sol. What a great decision we made as these two properties were a perfect fit. The adults stayed in Del Mar and we put all the kids in Del Sol. They loved having there own place and we had the security of having them next door. They played there music, watched what they wanted on TV and swam in the pool while we had the peace and quiet to ourselves in Del Mar when ever we wanted a break from all there excitement and energy.

Both of these homes are superbly appointed, colorful, not s speck of dust, the linens were crisp and fresh on every bed. I could tell how well cared for these homes are. MOST important is they both were spacious with enough room for us all. The houses had all the amenities we needed and more than expected. Franchesca brought fresh fish twice enough for us all. NOW location. The beach was ours!!!! What beautiful scenery with Coconut Palms lined up and down as far as you could see. I walked every morning, The locals in this residential community waved as I walked along. It had sea shells and coral. Literally untouched by regular tourist beach standards and star fish coral reefs, and shallow for swimming and that we did all day. The water pristine clear a magnificent view. The only negative is the sea is really for shallow swimming. There are many small coral spots to see the sea life but I think the big reef is to far out to explore and also a bit rough where the waves break. As it is private area there is no lifeguard. Sherry takes her time in the rental process and made it a breeze. She is very professional and her staff takes a personal interest in making sure we were comfortable. We did some tours that were fun but nothing was better than being at the houses enjoying our private paradise. All in all It was an amazing vacation for us with something of interest for everyone and we look forward to returning next year!

Our Family had an amazing time. We stayed for a week, It was an excellent home!!!! Best feeling in the world was enjoying our cups of coffee and enjoying that beautiful view of the Caribbean, while laying in one of the
The home was very clean and beautifully kept. Irene, the property manager, was excellent and very helpful. She went far and beyond to make our stay a wonderful one. We arrived at night and fully enjoyed the beautifully view of hermit crabs every where in the back yard, that was soo much fun, but waking up out first morning to that view, left us speechless, no words for that The beach is and back yard were pretty private which was wonderful.
This was the first time our family stayed at this home and we all loved it very much and are looking forward to enjoying it again.!!! Well worth it !!!!

A Dream Come True

Review submitted: July 7, 2014   Date of arrival: June 13, 2014

I rented both properties next to each other for my honeymoon and flew a bunch of our friends down as a surprise for our stay in Patillas. Both houses were more gorgeous and accommodating then I could ever imagine. Sherry and Irene were both fantastic, and more than willing to help pull off the surprise. The only negative part of the trip was that the houses and location were so perfect, we didn't want to go anywhere else on the island! We will definitely book here again when we go back.

Owners response: Thank you Chris for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends. I could not agree more that on a beautiful sunny day there is no better spot than our back yard beach front paradise to be. Hope we see you on many anniversaries to come.

The BEST Vacation Paradise

Review submitted: May 28, 2014   Date of arrival: May 8, 2014

First time in Puerto Rico and this house and this property was everything and more than we could have imagined. Good thing because it rained first 2 days. We stayed in and played cards on the porch. The sea was rough and choppy but the house was so charming, clean and comfortable. With rain we did not BBQ but I loved cooking in the kitchen. I am a bit of a germaphobe but it was very clean and bright and sink had a window above it that faced the sea. It had all appliances big and small, pots and pans and everything I needed to make some delicious meals on those rainy days. Bedrooms were so colorful and good size for the 8 of us plenty of room. Even crib and high chair for the baby. We made the best of it because the house was so wonderful. Franchesca was so helpful and brought us fish and blue crab. She said the rain would stop and it did :) The sea became like a lake and the sun shined through the palms. Loved the swimming and snorkeling right in the back yard. We BBQ’d evey night after that. The sun rises and sunsets were breathtaking from this property. And what a great island with so much to do. Thanks to Sherry who gave us all recommendations on tours. Went on East Island excursions and had the best time. Coming back to this house made for a perfect end of our day. Sherry is the best. Our booking was easy and we will definitely be back. This is the side of the island that truly is the most beautiful. This house is the one to stay in. It is an old tropical Spanish home! (We loved this about it) but impeccably well preserved and immaculately kept. We highly recommend this paradise on the sea.

My staff and I work very hard to ensure your stay is all you hoped it would be and more. With the tropics you can get both sunshine and rain drops. I am glad you experienced and enjoyed both during your visit. It is guest like you that remind me why I do this for a living and why I love it.........Thank you again.

Tried to place a review, but because it was not a 5 star review, it was deleted. The view here is lovely, the ocean is not really swimmable due to signs warning of the currents, and due to the corral reefs. That doesn't apply to snorkeling, I would think. My two problems with this rental were poorly functioning air conditioning, which was unable to be fixed. It was still iced up, as the cleaning people arrived to get the house ready for the next renters. We had to call several times about this. And the roach problem was quite bad. I was fastidious about keeping the kitchen clean, but they were a problem, even with all food items doubled wrapped in plastic. The house manager did respond when called. Unfortunately RAID did not remedy the situation, as roaches were even inside the microwave and toaster, after the RAID. These problems did put a damper on our vacation. Other than these 2 problems the house was clean, and the accomodations were satisfactory. Because of these problems, though, I would not really recommend this rental.

Recommended for: age 55+

Owners response: The dishonesty starts with her first sentence. She said anything but her 5 star reviews were deleted. This review is four star and not deleted. VRBO puts all rated reviews on their sight. They also read everything before publishing it. Then she says house was infested with roaches and at the end she says it was clean and satisfactory? Next..Here is a copy of her email to me in regards to her security deposit refund and experience during her vacation. On April 25, 2014 10:40 AM, Thanks Sherry, for the reminder. Will look for it, more than likely through Paypal; correct? Enjoyed our time in Puerto Rico! Beautiful!...What happened after this was a bad review and far more.... First her so called complaints: The cooling problem was taken care of and repaired the day of the complaint. I have a monthly extermination done to control any pests. Therefore there is no infestation nor have I had any complaints of this from other guests. The "one" warning sign for swimming mentioned is to the far west on the beach and not at my property. Now my complaint......This guest disputed there rent payment with Pay Pal three weeks after they got home in order to get a refund on their vacation without my knowledge. Pay pal contacted me. The roach complaint and so on was a ploy to get a refund from Pay Pal. They did not discuss any form of refund or complaint with me by phone or email they only contacted Pay Pal. In all my years no one has ever tried this scam. It did not work. I sent all email correspondence to Pay Pal and my signed contract to Pay Pal. This was a nightmare but finally Their claim was denied. In fact it never got officially opened as a dispute because of my response and time constraints. I can't imagine a group of 8 who would choose to stay in hot infested accommodations and then email me that it was beautiful. In fact I got a 5 star review from guests who stayed right before with no bug problem. I guess the roaches were on vacation for there stay :) All kidding aside...If this were a true complaint it would have been easily verified and then they would have actually been entitled to a refund and stayed elsewhere. Thank You PayPal for protecting my rights and understanding I do not give out vacations to 8 guests for free. As I have always said. My house does not change it is the guests that change from week to week. In spite of this sad experience I still love my job and am very grateful for the 99.9% of honest families that I share my home with.

What an awesome spot. My life got richer :)

Review submitted: April 1, 2014   Date of arrival: March 27, 2014

What a awesome and memorable time we had at Casa Caribe Del Mar.

First, Sherri (the owner of the property), is a champ. From the day we inquired about the property, Sherri has been extremely helpful, patient and informative. Whether it was about directions, shopping, local or tourist spots, Sherri was clear and spot on. She simply goes about her business in a very warm and professional manner.

When we arrived we were greeted by Francesca. She is awesome. She showed us around the property, and let us know all the good stuff. Francesca is the local champ.

We were a group of six. Two couples and two single guys. The place is so nice and relaxing on so many levels. The house was spotlessly clean. Everything was in place like a home should be. Anytime it was time to go it was hard to leave. Like a magnet we felt drawn to staying, and when we were gone we felt like we were being pulled back. We chilled on the hammocks, on the backyard floor, in the water, on the back porch, there are so many spots to hang out that are already designed to chill, that make it so amazing.

The property does not seem like it was designed for any specific group, as it looks like any group of people can just settle in and will love it just s we did. It is in its own secluded area and right off the water, yet close enough (5 minutues) to hang out with the locals or whoever is in town.

I strongly recommend this property, and truly want anyone considering staying here to know, that I am very glad that I have been fortunate enough to stay here. This is on mehalf of all of my friends as well.

I know awesome when I see it. Thank you Sherri and Francesca :)

Until next time.

All the best,

Owners response: Thank you Mikey for taking the time to write such a great review :) I am so glad you enjoyed our home and our beautiful island. I hope to have you all back again.

A lovely time being together with family during the holiday season

Review submitted: January 28, 2014   Date of arrival: December 24, 2013

As I sit here braving the severely negative temps of the coldest Midwest winter in memory, it is hard to believe just a few short weeks ago I was with my family soaking up sun, sand, warm water and making great memories. We found this lovely gem and I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience.

From the beginning, Sherry was more than helpful with making the reservation, and giving us tons of helpful advice for our stay at her property. I never had a minutes trouble getting in touch with her through email or by phone. She is professional and has great tips. Her on site manager Irene was extremely helpful, professional and willing to do whatever you need while staying in the house. I was pretty much in charge of planning this trip and these two ladies made the whole process as simple as can be. I thank them both very much for being so wonderful!

In total there were 8 of us. My husband and myself, my parents, my brother and sister in law and my two nieces 13 and 11. My husband and I travel extensively all over the world and we loved the idea of relaxing in a beach house for the week and taking a break from the hard core travelling that we are accustomed to. We absolutely loved the house. It was clean and comfortable. Waking up every morning to the ocean right outside the back door was such a wonderful experience. The back yard is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained by an excellent professional gardening staff.

There is so much to do in Puerto Rico and we enjoyed it very much. We found the people to be friendly and hospitable, the food to be delicious and the views are breath taking. We loved going on adventures during the day only to get back to our beach house for sunset and drinks and snacks on the beach. We also spent a few days around the house enjoying the yard and beach. It was the perfect place to call home for a week.

I recommend Casa Caribe del Mar for anyone who wants to spend a week in paradise making precious memories with friends and/or family. We all had a great time and would definitely return! Don't hesitate on this rental!

Owners response: A Christmas gift for Sherry :) Thank you Crystal for such a beautiful review. You know when I open my email and see that I have an Owner review notification, I know that no one needs to take the time to write one so I do consider it a gift of appreciation. I get very excited to read what you my guests have said about your stay. Did you love the house like I do? Did you have a good time? Etc etc. And then reading yours and giving me a 5 star rating just made my day. You made mention to some very important points about how I run my business. It has evolved into a full service rental company from a promised spotlessly clean house to location location location :) and my very special staff along with activities on the island that I feel best suits each individual party that come to my homes for a vacation. Since I have never been able to stay at my own home on Christmas holiday (I will when I retire) but until then I am so happy to have shared it with wonderful people like you at this holiday time of year. I do hope you return I would love to have you and your family back.

Number ONE Rental for 100 Reasons

Review submitted: January 21, 2014   Date of arrival: January 7, 2014

We looked at so many beautiful houses on VRBO but if you read all reviews on each site a lot said house was not quite as clean or beach not really as nice as pictures looked etc and no video??? There should be a video on all properties these days. And I wondered why not on all these other properties. Some I did not get responses for days or owner was nice but did not speak very good English which was not easy for me. I wish I could speak Spanish but I am from Idaho. We decided on Casa Caribe Del Mar because of the video it really showed us what we were getting and great reviews. Sherry contacted me the same day I inquired. She spent time with me and was very informative. I knew after speaking with her this house was it. I will tell you we feel like we won the lottery! The house and location has all and more than even the video can express. Charm, character, color..... everything we could ask for and SPOTLESSLY clean. Irene (wonderful sweet girl) met us at arrival and as she walked us through the property it took my breath away with all the beauty inside and out. I want to say that what makes this house special is it is not a mansion with fancy furnishings I would be afraid my children might break. We wanted a home away from home and this house was a real true Caribbean home. Large yet homey. A perfect size for us in perfect condition in my opinion. Everything in every room well maintained and cared for. We felt so comfortable there. The back yard against the beachfront was amazing for our children. They ran outside in the in such excitement to the grass under the Palms and played at the water edge the minute they got there. It was such a joy to see them do that. At night the whole back yard and Cabana light up under those Palms...Incredible. Sherry told us that there was a nest in the yard against the fence that the same sea turtle comes and lays her eggs every year and be careful not to walk on it. It was lined with coral so we knew where not to walk. We were amazed by just this but guess what? My children got to see the baby sea turtles hatch in early evening and walk to the sea on our third day there. AMAZING EXPERIENCE ONCE IN A LIFE TIME TO SEE THIS WONDER OF NATURE UNFOLD BEFORE OUR EYES. All the rest you have probably already read in Sherry's other reviews I will say is right on the money. So many wonderful things to say about this quaint little town, amazing food. Uncrowded and Untouched beaches. Nature at it's best. And a house I

Owners response: Thank you so much for this incredible review. I am so happy to hear your children got to see the yearly hatching of our baby seas turtles. They lay their eggs about 3 months in a row every year along our coast and one turtle has chosen the edge of our yard as her nesting site. We are very honored by this!!!! In my almost 9 years of owning there, I have seen many nests but I have not gotten to see this wonder of nature of them hatching yet. But look forward to it in my retirement :) Great video you took of it and am trying to get it on my Facebook page. They are so tiny and love the fact that you would not let the children touch them in the video. A true respect for nature giving them the best chance for survival. This review is different than most. Although I love what guests have to say in all my reviews in fact it is what I hope to achieve in reviews. It was just great to hear of a different kind of excitement from you my guests along with all the consistent compliments we get here at Casa Caribe Properties.
Thanks Again

Beautiful home, wonderful vacation

Review submitted: December 9, 2013   Date of arrival: November 28, 2013

We visited Sherry's home over the Thanksgiving holiday. We were 4 adults and 3 children, and there was more than enough room. The house is exactly as it is represented: well-cared-for, directly on the beach, and relatively secluded. It is obvious the house is more than just a rental property to the owners; it's a place they care for and visit regularly. That shows.

The property manager, Irene, was very helpful. She was able to answer all questions immediately, and she made us three restaurant recommendations (one of which was walkable down the beach, west of the house, called Lordemar), all of which were excellent.

The booking process was very simple, the directions to the house were easy to follow, and the vacation was wonderful. It was unusually rainy while we were there, and we loved it -- it's amazing to swim in the ocean in a passing rainstorm, and we saw more than a few rainbows over our stay. We also went on a boat/snorkeling trip to Icacos, great fun. We meant to hit another beach a little west of Patillas, but we couldn't pull ourselves away from the house. On days without much wind, the snorkeling was excellent. The beach itself was full of sand crabs and hermit crabs, pelicans and other birds, interesting shells and sea glass. We had a wonderful time.

Owners response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review. And for mentioning what a great job my staff does. These girls like Irene and Franchesca are hand picked trained with care and have become family to me. Yes I do come as often as I can and it is usually in the rainy season and I love it as well. Although I know most my guests prefer sunshine understandably, but I am glad to hear when my guests enjoy the giant warm rain drops of the tropics as well. Thank you again and we hope to see you next year.

Awesome Place

Review submitted: November 14, 2013   Date of arrival: November 9, 2013

We came to PR with family, to see family. This vacation rental worked out perfectly. We ended up cooking a huge meal for our entire group (some staying elsewhere) and having an amazing time cooking, swimming, playing and partying at this spectacular location. The house and grounds are just perfect. We went to both nearby grocery stores which were both convenient (the one in Arroyo is much larger). Being a bit out of the way (a huge plus for us) meant that restaurant choices were fairly slim. Having Puerto Ricans in the family and getting home cooked PR food often, we found the nearby restaurants adequate, but we also went over to Ponce and had a meal at an "elegant" restaurant that was not much better. I would happily stay here again. Life in the hammocks was wonderful! Thanks Sherry!

Owners response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. I also want to thank you for sharing the video of the sea turtles hatching on our beach. I am going to post it on my facebook page. You all were so excited and the babies were so cute. The same sea turtle comes and lays her eggs there every year. We flag the nest and put shells around it to protect it. Your children got the rare wonderful experience of witnessing this wonder of nature. I hope to one day see them hatch as well. I love when guests come and call me like you did just to say how beautiful my home and yard are. You made my day and I hope to see you all back next year.

Amazing View

Review submitted: June 19, 2013   Date of arrival: June 11, 2013

Just came back from Puerto Rico. We stayed at del Sol and del Mar next door which is great for a large group (8). First Sherry was amazing to deal with. This house was everything she said and more. Irene the property manager is a true gem. Both houses were EXTREMELY clean and well maintained. Patillas is quiet and laid back but the people are extremely friendly. We loved talking to the people and the neighbors to the right brought us fresh mangos and bananas as did Irene. She even drove us to the best bakery in the town of Patillas. We did have a car to drive where we wanted. Activites we tried were the biobay, wave boats with snokerling, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, and the Hilton casino in Ponce. DONT USE Yunke Zipling: rude, rude, rude.

Thanks again Sherry for sharing your houses.

Fantastic Vacation Location

Casa Caribe Del Mar is just as advertised, but maybe better. Right on the bueatiful Caribbean, your view of the sea framed by palm trees, a clean and wonderful home, with both local and owner support. Five stars is not enough. Our group of 8 enjoyed the island but we all agreed that staying "home" on the beach was the best.

Owners response: Wow so many very happy guests. I am so pleased. And even more proud of my staff for doing a 5 star job. The property should be perfect when you arrive and my staff has made sure of this. It has taken me years to find the best to take care of my guests and homes. It feels great to say that today... They are not just employees they are friends. It makes vacations what they should be for you our guests to enjoy and bring home great memories. Thank Liz for taking the time to right this review and I do hope to see you all back next year.

Casa Caribe Del Mar is a beautiful, well maintained property. It is wonderful to sit in the hammocks and watch the world go by while you relax, and if you don't want to do that, there are many activities within an hour of the home. We went up "Pork Road" and sampled the world class roasted pork, hiked in the rain forest, went sailing and snorkeling on a catamaran, toured Old San Juan, and some of the group even kayaked to the biolumenscent bay during the week we were there. It was a little windy while we were there and while we weren't able to do a lot of snorkeling in back of the house, but the moonlight walks on the beach were awesome! We found a little park and beach out of the wind within 10 minutes of the house and were able to do a lot of swimming/snorkeling/shell gathering there. The property manager, Irene, was so great to help us with anything we wanted or needed to know...she even got some fresh red snapper for us!

Fantastic Puerto Rico Home

Review submitted: March 20, 2013   Date of arrival: March 9, 2013

Casa Caribe Del Mar is truly paradise. Very relaxing and wonferdul atmosphere,. We spent the majority of our time in the backyard in the hammocks, chairs and cabana. the veranda was quite comfortable as well The interior of the home is wonderful and was everything we wanted in a Puerto Rico vacation. We enjoyed snorkeling right at the house and seeing the coral and various fishes, we also took the drive up to Charco Azul and the local lechoneras, very much worth the short drive. Irene was wonderful and we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our vacation.

Owners response: Thank you kate for the wonderful review. I am sorry it took so long to respond. I just came back myself and found I have gotten a few more 5 star reviews. What a gift to come home too :) You all were great and I do hope you all can come back.

Best Thanksgiving Ever....and we didn't even have turkey!

Review submitted: February 4, 2013   Date of arrival: November 17, 2012

My husband and I treated our family to a Thanksgiving week at Casa Caribe del Mar and we had the most amazing time. We so enjoyed having the Sea right out our back door. We rarely saw anyone on the beach and the water was clear and calm enough for us to snorkel out just a bit. We were continually warned about the currents so we were very careful to always stay in groups. The house was very nice, though road noise in the front two bedrooms was a little loud, i would recommend ear plugs or bring a noise maker. My daughter had one on her phone which worked very well for them. When we arrived the power was out which posed a slight inconvenience, but we weathered through and it was back on within 24 hours. Sherry talked about getting a generator, which would be nice, or at the least some good battery powered lanterns as the candles did not give too much light. With that said, the loss of power did not dampen our fun. We ventured out a bit, but so enjoyed the house that we stayed there for the most part, cooking and lounging on the beach. I highly recommend this house. We so enjoyed our stay that my husband and I are heading back in February to celebrate our anniversary.

Owners response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review Melanie. I really need these reviews when I go through a rare tough week like this one was. You guys were great about the power outage, realizing it was not in my control or had anything to do with my house or management. High winds caused power lines to go down and a black out occurred across the entire south side of PR. This is the first time in 12 years I had experienced the power being out a full day. They reported it was an 16 hour black out. Honestly Mother Nature gives me my biggest headaches with guests and the other 99% of the time things go smoothly. I do have an emergency kit, flashlights and candles. But I will take your suggestion and get a large battery powered light system for better lighting. The tough part for me was the guests next door. Unlike you they looked at this as an opportunity to get money from me and complained that somehow I should do something about it. They were very upset when I did not give them the unrealistic refund they requested. I explained that I do offer insurance at booking and they elected not to purchase it and it is an island in the middle of the ocean. This can happen but is not a normal occurrence. Thank goodness I had you next door to remind me that most guests are like you who look at a temporary unexpected inconvenience as just that and not let it effect the rest of their precious vacation time regardless of a mishap. This was my biggest mishap and you took it in stride. Truth is you were smart not to let it take over your thoughts. The other guests spent days complaining after the power was back on looking for that refund. Not in my opinion what one should be thinking about while on vacation. I have always said it is the people who come that are different. My houses always stay the same. Here you are coming back 3 short months later. That says it all for me about wonderful people like you. This is why I continue to get 5 star reviews. It's 5 star guests like you that take the time to write them and appreciate what I have to offer in my tropical paradise on the sea. You make my job a joy and worth any headaches I go through with others. Thanks again and welcome back :)

The Perfect Christmas...

Review submitted: January 16, 2013   Date of arrival: December 18, 2012

In hopes of escaping the crazy commercialized Christmas season my entire family including parents, sibling and all children planned a warm getaway to Puerto Rico. We found Sherry and Casa Del Mar on VRBO and fell in love with the pictures immediately. After a conversation with Sherry we were sure this was the place for us and we could not have been happier. We spent nine most enjoyable days there and were certainly not ready to leave when our stay was up. Irene met us at the house when we arrived and was most helpful with any and all questions. We traveled around the island a bit including a trip to Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park to zip line as well as ferry trips to both out islands. The travel was really unnecessary though when you are in such a beautiful setting as this house is. The pictures are a true reflection of the surroundings. The house was immaculate and well equipped with everything you could need. Both Sherry and Irene were more then helpful with many suggestions and tips to help make our stay absolutely fantastic!! I have already recommended this property to a few people as well as the other properties that Sherry owns. She and Irene were wonderful hosts.

Owners response: Thank you for such a wonderful review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. I am always happy to share my home with a family like yours who take such good care of it and explore all Puerto Rico has to offer in a great vacation. We would love to have you back and thank you for letting others who are looking for a great place to stay that our place is the spot and recommending us to your friends.

October Paradise Getaway

Review submitted: October 26, 2012   Date of arrival: October 7, 2012

I could write a book on all the wonderful and special things this house and location offer. We are a family of 9 who wanted to get away and have private time together. Simply the best. Just as described. Loved Sherry had a video before we choose a place as most don't on the web sites. Was even better than the video :) Very Clean and so much character. Beautiful decor throughout. bedrooms have VERY comforable beds and were a great size. Beach was sandy and sea was well......the Caribbean!!!!! steps from the back porch have to walk through a tropical lush back yard to get to it about oh 40 steps and you are on the beach. Got a discount price because it is not peak season in October. When we got there the weather was great. Beach was sandy. Rained last two days and it did bring in winds and made the water rough. Brought in some small stones on the sand too. Weather at the end of our trip is my only complaint but then that is why we got the discount. We ate the best food. Fresh roasted pork and chicken. Had fresh fish brought right to our door 4 times just as Sherry advertized was amazing. We didn't explore much. Our only day trip was up to carite forest right there in Patillas and during our drive to the house we saw how beautiful the island is. Went on this trip for family time and we were happy to stay at the house and vacation there. We wanted to stay a couple extra days but the house was booked. We will plan our trip next year for a longer stay..........Thats right like so many others we will be back. O ctober will be our month for sure. Thank you Sherry for sharing this incredable piece of paradise with others.

Owners response: Thanks Donna, I came in the day you left to renovate my new property Casa Caribe Del CoCo. Got in early and my cleaning crew arrived right after me and had not cleaned yet. I walked in the house and it was so clean I couldn't even tell! You left my house in such great condition. Thank you. I figured it out when I went into the bedroom and the bed sheets were stripped and on the floor for washing. I can not be more thankful for guest like you who do that extra touch at departure but keeping my house clean while you are there is more than enough. Next time let the girls do this. It is your vacation and it is their job. Besides it still took them 4 hours to clean and do laundry as all needs to be cleaned again and fresh regardless. So I got myself a glass of wine, my book and made myself quite comfortable on the hammock until they were done. I got to stay in Del Mar a few days before my next guest arrived. Then spent the rest of my time at Del CoCo until it was completed. I had the same weather but love the rain. I know it keeps our beautiful island green and clean. But I also had some great days in the sun and swimming in the sea too at the end of my busy days! We start at 6:00am so we can all be done by 2:00. Then I have the afternoons to enjoy the beach as my guests do. Poor me I have to work in Puerto Rico :) Needless to say I love my job! I love going in September and October I think it gives us the best of both worlds.....Sun shine and rain drops. So glad to hear you are coming back. Next time I hope you take at least two days and explore. I know the back yard is a vacation on it's own but Puerto Rico is an amazing place for things to see and do as well. Again enjoy the best of both worlds........Our amazing back yard and all that Puerto Rico has to offer with it's Caribe-Spanish flare :) Got you down for your 10 days next year. So glad to add you to my return VIP guest list. Thanks Again for taking the time to write a review. Sherry

Fabulous location

Review submitted: September 10, 2012   Date of arrival: July 15, 2012

We stayed at this property in July and had a wonderful time. We were able to rest and relax, something we don't do here at home.
The house was clean and comfortable. Irene was great and just a phone call away when we needed her. Sherry was extremely easy to work with and so helpful by giving me information on Patillas prior to our visit. I can't wait to go back and check out her other properties.
Thanks again Sherry for all your help! Looking forward to talking with you again soon!

Amazing Puerto Rican Beach Experience!

Review submitted: July 24, 2012   Date of arrival: July 7, 2012

We were thrilled with our stay at "Casa Caribe Del Mar". The description of the site and the pictures on the website were accurate. The house and property are very well maintained. The property owner is wonderful to work with, and their property manager, Irene, is awesome! We loved the quaint, little beach village that we were in, but we were also able to take day trips to a variety of places--Old San Juan, El Yunque rain forest, sea Kayaking in Salinas, etc.....We would highly recommend a Sunday drive to sample traditional PR roast pork, in the mountain town of Cayey, and also the all day snorkeling excursion to the island of Icacos! We had a fantastic time! We would definitely recommend this place to friends!

Owners response: Thanks Anne for the wonderful review. I have not had a complaint in well over a year and in fact have had guest after guest rave about thier experience staying in Casa Caribe Del Mar. Not many like you will take the time to let others know that I actually provide exactly what is described on my web sites and more. I am so glad that you went out and explored our lush green island as well. Puerto Rico is unique in the fact that you get a real Spanish cultural vacation while still having the security of being on US territory. No passports needed. Thank you for sharing. It really does help others looking for a vacation destination that is safe and unique, beautiful and fun. And of course staying at my Spanish treasure on the seashore that I have won awards for three years in a row. So I am proud to say I have been voted the best and most booked beachfront private home on the south side of Puerto Rico. And my numbers keep growing. Its famlies like yours that make my work a joy. Hope to see you next year and thank you so much for taking such good care of my home during your stay.

SECOND DEL MAR STAY A+++++++ Vacation

Review submitted: July 8, 2012   Date of arrival: June 13, 2012

If you are smart your search ends here! This is the best a tropical vacation has to offer in a property and location. Came in September 2010 and it rained most days. We still had a great time. Sherry takes excellent care of her guests (please read my 2010 review) and Irene the property manager is always on hand. A great girl. This trip in June was amazing. The weather was perfect. Sunrise and sunsets are breath taking. The house and yard are beautiful. The location can not be beat. One of our favorites were days just relaxing in the back yard laying in the hammocks and taking a dip in the warm waters of the Carribean sea. But we did a lot more exploring this trip and Puerto Rico has much to see and do. Best part is coming back to this tropical paradise at the end of the day. A must do is going to Guavate, Cayey on the weekends they play music with a live band and roast whole pigs! Delisious!!! But there is so much more we wanted to do but ran out of time. We are hooked! We have already booked for 2013. Thanks Sherry for sharing your incredible beachhouse under the palms on the seashore.

A Little Piece of Paradise

Review submitted: April 10, 2012   Date of arrival: March 9, 2012

The photos of Casa Caribe Del Mar really do it no justice. My three siblings and I visited Puerto Rico for a week and were thrilled that we found this beach house in a remote part of the island, far away from the insane crowds and traffic in the San Juan and surrounding tourist areas. Several days while we there, we traveled to other parts of the island (all very beautiful), but looked forward to returning each evening to the cozy beach house. The last couple of days there we didn’t even leave the house and spent them relaxing on the back patio or in the hammocks under the palm trees, reading books, watching the lizards in the yard, listening to the waves, and soaking up the sun.

The beach, just steps from the back patio, was rarely occupied; saw maybe a handful of people the entire time we were there. We spent hours scouring the rocks and sand for seashells (came home with a bag full of beauties) and watching the hermit crabs run around. Although it’s not a great area for swimming due to the coral and strong currents, the water is great for snorkeling, if you feel the need to get in. (The view of the gorgeous turquoise water and sound of the waves were all we really needed.)

As for the house itself…it has so much character, very clean and spacious, comfy beds, running out of warm water was never a problem, and it was great having a full-sized, fully equipped kitchen to store food and cook meals. Being able to do laundry was also a nice convenience. The cable TV and DVD player were great to have in the evenings.

Our only complaint was the faulty air conditioner, which would stop cooling if left running for too long and which completely stopped working one evening (just happened to be the day we had gone sailing/snorkeling, got sunburned, and really needed the relief of a/c.) Irene was great, though, and had the repairman there the following afternoon to fix it. As noted by other reviewers, the two main bedrooms are close to a fairly busy/noisy road, but it was not a major issue that would keep us from returning. Earplugs are an easy solution, if you are a light sleeper.

Bottom line, Casa Caribe Del Mar felt like a second home, rather than a rental. The owner, Sherry, is amazing and goes out of her way to provide a home away from home. There is no way a week-long stay in a hotel or resort could’ve compared. The house provided much needed relaxation and time away from the bustling city life. I highly recommend staying here!

Owners response: Thank you so much Tara for the wonderful review. I am so happy to hear when my guests go back to thier homes with great memories of my little piece of paradise. The last time I brought my 6 girls I wanted to go and explore but I could not get them out of the back yard either lol. On those beautiful sunny days there is no better spot to be. You are right about the coral in the sea and I try to let everyone know it is best to wear water shoes in the shallow waters. I sleep soundly and really never hear any noise. It is just a two lane road at the end of town so traffic is not heavy but I also live in the city so noise is just part of my everyday experience. I don't know if I could sleep with complete silence. I know those who live in country or large lots are not use to any street noise so I guess it is where you come from for the most part. The most important thing is your entire experience was positive and so well put into words for others to know. Thank you again and I hope to see you all back again soon.

Beautiful vacation home

Review submitted: April 4, 2012   Date of arrival: March 27, 2012

This home was exactly as described. We spent a week with 6 family members and everyone enjoyed the house. It is beautiful beyond words! We had some cloudy rainy days and didn't even mind. The view from the veranda is breath taking. We enjoyed snorkeling in the coral reef and all the underwater sea life. This home had all the comforts of being in your own home. I would recommend a drive up the coast as it is incredible. We had a visitor one day, a very large iguana that apparently lives in the back yard(he is easily 3 feet long). The house is very tastefully decorated. Well done Sherry! Speaking of Sherry she was great to deal with, it was like dealing with a friend. Our family is already trying to figure out how soon we can all come back! Just watch the falling coconuts they sound like bombs dropping, but they are great to eat. We also enjoyed shell collecting and found a lot of sea glass. We enjoyed grilling and eating outside every night. We also stopped at the local roadside food stands and had wonderful local food. I would recommend this property to anyone, it will be enjoyed by one and all!!

Owners response: Thank you so much Melissa and family :) I am so happy to hear when a family comes to Puerto Rico and enjoys the spanish flavor of my home, embraces the culture and takes in the full beauty of our back yard seashore. The weather and the seas have been basically good and calm making vacation dreams come true for you my guests. Having you arrive to a beautiful clean home is my goal as the location does the rest for me. I have been so fortunate to have wonderful famlies like you come vacation at my home and take such good care of it during your stay. I have been booked solid this year. I have had guests leave in the morning and new guests arrive in the afternoon each week for the last 3 months. Being so busy I am always concerned all goes as planned. It seems they have as I have had solid 5 star reviews coming in all three months. Irene my property manager is the best I have ever had. So I must give her credit for keeping the cleaning and gardening staff on point. Thank you again for taking the time to write this fantastic review. I hope to see you all back soon!

Gorgeous !!

Review submitted: April 1, 2012   Date of arrival: March 22, 2012

What a fantastic place. Thank you so much for opening this home for others to enjoy. We arrived and were warmly welcomed by Irene and her son. The house was very clean, cool and inviting. Irene called every day to see if there was anything we needed and even ensured the local fisherman had enough fresh red snapper to feed our party of 10 adults. The swimming as stated on another review is in shallow water, the snorkeling was good but there are lots of other local beaches to explore as well (I recommend you bring water shoes- lots of coral). I loved that there was a book filled with activities, interests and local information for us. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this home- and am sure you will as well. Thank you both Sherry and Irene- don't be surprised if we are back in a couple of years!!

Owners response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful review. I did worry a bit about hot showers etc for 10 adults in the house. When my house is full it is usually with adults and children so I am so glad it all worked out and that you had a great time. Thank you also for mentioning what a good manager Irene is. She really takes pride in the house and our guests. It would be a pleasure to have you back again.

If your dates are open GRAB this house

Review submitted: March 28, 2012   Date of arrival: February 24, 2012

First tip.....When you are looking to rent a house on these web sites pick a property that has a history and many reviews like this one. It really does matter. We looked at this house last year. Dates were open but we wanted to look at everything before deciding. When we went back to this house on the web site 3 weeks later our dates were no longer available. We then decided on a beachfront property that looked great on the web site but only had 6 reviews 2 of them were bad, but it was cheaper and it was open. Our experience was horrible. I won't go into to much detail, but main things were the house was not clean or well funished!!!! Walls had not been painted in propbably years. Not enough towels or cookware. And the beach was filled with mangoves and NOT swimmable. No pictures on the walls just not what anyone would want to stay in beleive me especially on a vacation that we save up for every year. Nothing homey about it. We felt like we were slumming it in a dive cheap hotel. Air conditiong units in two bedrooms did not work, leaked water down the walls and there was mold from this. we tried to contact the property manager but he never returned our calls. We ended up having all 4 kids in our room because of the mold. The good news is because we were so unhappy with where we were STUCK staying at, that we went out everyday to explore the island. We found we loved Puerto Rico. When we got home we booked this year right away. We were expecting a lot from this house and we were not dissapointed on any level. Sherry was informative and a real pro from the first call. Her manager meet us at the house at arrival and got us Fish and Lobster during our stay. We have 4 children and the house had EVERYTHING! A fully equipped kirchen, beach and bath towels, a pack and paly and high chair for the baby. Even games on the shelves. Central air throughout, The house was a delight. Beautiful! The beach was smooth like glass and clear and warm. Our children sat and played in the sand at the waters edge. We did exploore again to our favorite spots. But coming home to this house was the highlight. Best of both worlds. We will be back to stay at this beach house like so many others. There are probably other good places to stay out there, but for us we have learned that we will spend our hard earned money and our precious family vacation time only in a place with this kind of history bookings and reviews!

Owners response: Thank you for the informative and 5 star review. I have many guests who are very relieved to see that my property is actually as described. Pictures on the internet can be decieving. In my opinion give a new listing a chance. But ask a lot of questions and ask for a video. Since this is your vacation I would suggest that you stay away from older listings with little to no reviews or bookings. This is a sure sign of at the very least bad management. I know there is enough business for those of us with the best rentals. We are easy to find. Just look at our calandars and reviews. All of us have a couple bad reviews as we can not please all the people all the time. But read them all to get a good overall picture of how the property is managed and kept. Finding a home to rent on the internet should and can be a wonderful and fun experience if you follow these simple tips. These guests have already booked for next year adding to my list of return guests. Thank you again.

Saw that this house was booked month after month so we wanted to give it a try. Wow now we know why this house is the number one rental. What a beautiful place and location. We love Puerto Rico and have stayed all over the island through the years. This house and location are just exceptional! Authentic Puerto Rico. Pictures can not describe what you find when you get there. This was one of the best vacations we have ever had and no doubt the best property we have stayed in. Beaches are breathtaking and clean clear water. The house has everything you could need and more than expected. The staff is friendly and Sherry proved all she said is what it is. We highly reccomend this treasure. No surprises and NO dissapointments !!!! REALLY you can not go wrong staying here. You will have a great vacation.

Our Fourth Trip

Review submitted: March 7, 2012   Date of arrival: January 29, 2012

I can only repeat all the wonderful things I have said before, and that I have read in the other reviews. This is truly a paradise. It is secluded and safe, comfortable and convenient. We travel with a friend in a wheelchair, and it is perfect for his enjoyment as well, because the house is literally barrier-free, and the view from the verandah is always amazing, whether rain or shine. The house is close to the road, but we rather enjoy the local color provided by the car-radios and motorcycles, and for sleeping, a pair of earplugs makes it very quiet. Back home now, I miss the Coqui singing, and the surf, always in the background. The kitchen is well equipped and we prepared all our meals there, and enjoyed dining on the verandah every day for thirty-three days! Shopping for groceries is convenient in Patillas, as well as Guayama, 10 and 15 minutes away. And there is a Costco in Caguas less than an hour away. It is always hard to leave and go home to the frozen north. (Michigan) We have already reserved our time for next winter, and have started counting the days until we can return! Very highly recommended!!!

Owners response: Thank you so much Sylvelin :) It can be no surprise that these are my favorite guests! I look forward to thier visit every year. They take excellent care of my home and love as I do. I think I said this last year....But this has become thier home too. And you always remember to leave a review. I so appreciate you doing that. You also take the most beautiful pictures, so I hope to get new ones from 2011 visit so I can post them in my guest album on my Casa Caribe Del Mar Face book page. You are the best and I am so glad you keep coming back.

October 2011 Dream House

Review submitted: November 22, 2011   Date of arrival: October 22, 2011

My family of 7 adults enjoyed staying at this beautiful house on the beach. We felt safe during our stay, and Sherry helped us prepare months before our arrival. The architecture of this home is a must see--each room is filled with stained glass windows, tile and terrazzo floors, teak doors, and selective art and decor. The backyard is well-groomed and only steps from the sandy beach. The coconut palms provided plenty of shade for the older members of our family to also enjoy being outdoors without worry of too much sun. There is a strong current in the water, but shallow swimming (up to about 4 ft) is enjoyable and safe to the left of the backyard. The property manager, Irene, made us feel very welcome and was accessible when needed. We enjoyed living among the locals for a week--visiting nearby stores and supermarkets while also taking scenic drives through the mountains and along the coast. Everyone we met during our stay was friendly, including the guests staying at Casa Caribe Del Sol next door.

Thank you to Sherry and her staff for providing a clean, safe home for our October get-away. We came home to a foot of snow and no electricity, quite a shock after being in Puerto Rico.

If you are looking for a nice, reasonably priced private home and beach to get away from it all--this is a great vacation rental!

We look forward to returning in April 2012.

Owners response: Another guest returning to my home is the highest complement :) and why I am booked so far in advance on my calandar. Return guests love and appreciate the beauty of my home as I do and this is the reason why I give a return guest discount even in peak season. Thank you also for all the wonderful things said about my home and Puerto Rico I am so glad that you have found our one of kind beachfront home in paradise.

Review submitted: September 25, 2011   Date of arrival: September 17, 2011

Thank you so much for the wonderful experience of Puerto Rico. Everything was wonderful. We were so comfortable and relaxed. The house was well equipped, clean and maintained well.
Irene could not have been more friendly and helpful. Restaurants and people were very nice. One suggestion, order the Lobster or Snapper as soon as you know your arrival time. We were lucky enough to have Red Snapper delivered and it was amazing.
We enjoyed the locals and went to the Rain Forest, El Rancho, and enjoyed local eateries as well. The Caribe Restaurant down the beach provided a great Birthday Dinner and Cake! The gentleman even sang Happy Birthday to me! Also a good place to eat was DelMar in Manubo. Its about 20 minutes past the lighthouse. The chef was great.
Counting the days till we can return. Sherry was wonderful and nothing missing-down to the Ice in the freezer.
LOVED loved LOVED it!
We wanted to feel a part of Puerto Rico-and not the bustle of tourist town, it was everything we needed!

Owners response: Thanks Guys.....As you know I was there right before your arrival. I was on my usual September trip getting the house ready for the winter season and roof repaired after Hurricane Irene. This time had a whole new roof installed along with a new full size oven cook top range. I did many other replacements and updates to the house as, work ,work.... but loved my time there. I am already home sick to go back. You guys were just great taking excellent care of my home and thank you for appreciating all Irene does. She is special to me. Great tips on the fish delivery. Letting Irene know what guests want as soon as they arrive so she can get to the docks or our local fisherman to ensure a fresh catch during their visit. It has been a pleasure to know you and I do hope you go on my very special list of return guests.

A true Puerto Rican Getaway

Review submitted: August 18, 2011   Date of arrival: August 1, 2011

We had the most amazing vacation, the area is a quaint fishing village with both ocean and mountains at your door step. The house is very private and comfortable and my family and in-laws (who live in Puerto Rico) truely enjoyed this vacation home and all that it offers. Sherry, the owner, I now consider a friend. From our first inquiry to check in /check out, she was always just a phone call away. The house is well equipped and very CLEAN.... The views, the village, the house and the outstanding customer service makes this HomeAway rental one of the very best experiences we have ever had on vacation and we cannot wait to come back.. Alex/Luann Negron and family...

Owners response: I think the best possible outcome is when I not only have a wonderful guest who takes care of my home, but a friend and a connection at the end of the day. My philosophy is first impressions mean everything. This is how I do business and what I ask of my staff. The great reviews keep coming and I have to give my staff headed by my Property Manager Irene for making the first experience walking in the door just as it should be. A friendly face to meet and greet all my guests and a clean and beautiful environment. The location does the rest for us!!!!! Thank you so much for taking care of her before you left and acknowledging my commitment to excellent customer service from the first phone interview as this is my gratuity! You have been a pleasure to know! Sherry

Owners response: Thanks for letting others know that my customer service begins at our first conversation!

Booking vacation time at my home is how this all started many years ago. It has evolved into so much more.

I love helping plan tours for my guests, giving advise and information about the island on where to eat and all the great outdoor activities and diversity this beautiful green island has to offer.

Most important is knowing in advance the wonderful place you Have chosen to stay! Casa Caribe Del Mar!

Over the years I have become very educated on Puerto Rico for the love of the island, and in an effort of helping guests with all different interests.

As the owner my gratuities do not come in dollars bills. They come in great guests like you taking time out of their day to send in a review. This one is special. Thanks So Much!

Great Time!

Review submitted: July 25, 2011   Date of arrival: June 1, 2011

We had such a great time at the house! the weather was great, water perfect, so relaxing and fun. The house was wonderful, and accomodated us well. Loved hanging out on the beach and the back porch watching the ocearn. I was glad to be away from the tourist areas, on a nice quiet beach. Our favorite was probably a trip to Culebra and Flamenco beach... how beautiful! The only stressful part of our trip was the driving, but it really wasn't that bad. The road signs are not that great, and even with a gps and map, we still took a lot of wrong turns. Also, they drive so fast on those side roads... and ironically, they don't really speed much on the 2 lane open highways. Strange??? One, or 2 suggestions I have would be to put a clear house number on the outside of your house, or some kind of marker, yard art or something like that. The directions you gave me were great, except once we got to the area, we didn't know which house was yours... probably drove by it 3 times. Also, and maybe this is written down somewhere so it could be that I just didn't see it... I would let people know, and maybe include it in your materials, that the road, I think it's 191 (?), that goes throught the rainforest Yunque, doesn't go all the way through the park. All of the maps I saw, including my gps showed the road going all the way through, but if you enter from the south side, it dead ends before you get very far in. So, I guess some suggestion to make sure to enter from the north side... like I said, I may have just missed this though. Overall, what a great trip we had! I was a little worried about the weather report, but it turned out to be a very nice week! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to stay at your house.

Owners response: Thanks for the great review and very good tips for future guests and for me. Great tip about the front of the property. I like that it is gated with a very large concrete wall in front. And that It is private to where you can not see the house from the street. So I will send a picture to future guests of the front of the property so it will be easier for them to find and know what to look for. So Thanks! I do have the info about El Yunque in my book at the house, but I will make sure to let people know verbaly as well. When staying just a week , precious fun time is wasted when getting lost or coming up on dead ends. The rave reviews have been coming in one to two a day lately and I am so glad to hear from all of you. All these amazing reviews remind me I can not let one dishonest review take away from what I truely offer all my guests in the wonderful vacation home I provide. Thanks again and hope you come back :)

Family Reunion on the Beach

Review submitted: July 24, 2011   Date of arrival: June 25, 2011

Our family reunion was a success! Everyone was very happy to see each other and they all loved the house!
I love gettting up in the morning to watch the view of the beach. Everything that we needed was in the house. It was clean and neat. The kitchen also had a wonderful view.. I liked that condiments were left in the house for cooking. The stove did not work, but the handyman came immediately to fix it. Irene acted quickly. All of the beds were comfortable and all ten of us fit nicely. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. A storm came by and the lights and water shut down for a few hours. The owner accommodated us by allowing us to use the house next door. It was very sweet of her. We know that things happen even with good planning. Overall, I could not be happier.

Owners response: Thank you very much :) Our mid season has had unusual on and off storms. With 10 of you and stormy weather I was very concerned. I was very happy that you had some sunny days too and most important a good time connecting with your family. We are located on a more remote part of the island and this is a draw as the beaches are not picked over by tourist and uncrowed and the town is a quiet fishing village with authentic Puerto Rican charm. On the other hand if high winds from a storm knock out a power line it will effect the whole south side power and water. They do fix it as quickly as possible but this is the second time this year the power and water went off for a few hours. It is an inconvience for you my guests. Thanks for your understanding. The stove looks great with not a dent or scratch on it lol.... but I have had to repair that gosh darn oven element on the stove three times in the last 8 months. I am going in September and I guess it's time to replace it and get a whole new stove. It's good to know that the majority who come and stay love the house and understand it's charm and old world beauty. I can not control the weather but I can promise a wonderful place to stay. Thanks again for taking the time to write this.

Our Stay at Casa Caribe

Review submitted: July 15, 2011   Date of arrival: July 8, 2011

Although the weather was not as sunny as we would have liked...our stay at Casa Caribe was very relaxing and filled with lots of fun and laughter. Our family of 5 adults found the home to be very accommedating and comfortable.
The views were wonderful and the water was perfect! The home had ALL the necessities, towels, pots and pans, plates and cups, and flashlights and candles which were needed on several occasions! Not too sure why the lights and water were turned off during the night hours, it was only an inconvenience one since we all retired to bed early. We also found the local food stands and restaurants to be delicious! We all tried new dishes. If you plan on traveling around the island, we would reccommend bringing a navigation device since the road are very tricky, in Spanish and can be very confusing to follow. We got lost a few times, not to worry, we always found our way back.
The people in and around Patillas were very helpful and very friendly, especially Irene and her husband. We had inadvertently locked ourselves out of the house, TWICE, and Irene came to our rescue without hisitation, THANK YOU!!!! Also, I would reccommend letting her know ahead of time that you would like some fish delivered so that she can contact the local fish guy right away.
Even though there were a lot of homeless dogs roaming around, we made a friend for life...we named him Rico! He is the small dog that stole our hearts....and he is in the care of the local vet now awaiting his trip to the States!!!!

Owners response: The Best of Best of Guests! They saved a little dog and gave him a HOME! You are all so special and important to me for all you have done. I am so grateful for this review and what you had to put up with while you were vacationing at my home. Patillas is the proud new owner of its own power plant and they were working on this during your visit. It would have been nice if they at least informed us with a letter or something but no. So I had no idea. I had Irene call the power co to see what was going on. She found out the power was going to be turned off in the entire town a few hours for 3 nights and yes the water that is pumped through with electric went off as well. And you still gave me 4 stars :) Thank you for understanding. You are the opposite of my guests in May who were the worst of the worst. They left very dishonest reviews with several complaints on both my properties even though they stayed at just one, trying to ruin my reputation and complained about everything and anything including a trash can being knocked over by a dog. Probably the only truthful complaint they had. Heartless people without a thought that once and a while a starving homeless dog will knock over a trash can just to get a meal. Their only though was how do I get money from the owner for having to pick up some trash. I of course got new trash cans with lock lids as this is the sanitary thing to do. I did not give them money. More important is my views on guest motives were dim. I was to say the least discouraged. The reviews since and what you did to save this little life brought me back to see real humanity. And I will point out that there are not packs of dogs on our beaches, but one left now and then and that for me is one to many. Homeless pets are a problem on all islands in the Caribbean. Since I own property in Puerto Rico I have become an avid part of dog rescue there. As guests....You guys are the cherry on top. You saved that little homeless puppy that knocked over the trash can. Took him to my vet and spent so much money just to give him a home. I do not ever expect any of my guests to do this as it takes a very special person (family) to go to this length and save a homeless animal. Thank you for so many things. Little Rico won the PR doggy lottery with you. I got wonderful guests. And you gave me back the reason why I enjoy sharing my home with the majority guests who come and stay at my little piece of paradise. I give you guys 10 stars ;-)

The Real Tropical Deal"

Review submitted: July 11, 2011   Date of arrival: June 28, 2011

The pictures and discription of this place are completey accurate. Even better!!!! This house sits right on a quiet unpopulated beach with coconut palms over the waters sand and shells edge. The house is old and quirky and very unique , But it was completely upgraded as we had all the modern conviences along with so much charm. Nothing cooky cutter about it. It was very clean and large enough for the 7 of us with room to spare. The windows in the livingroom are huge and look out to the ocean. We loved this little town and took drives to all the beaches around the south east area just to see as much as we could while we were there. We also took a sail and snorkle tour out of Fajardio to Culebra. We highly recommend this. It was fun to see another island and got to sail on a boat and the snorkling was great. We have rented much larger and newer houses, but at prices that triple what we paid for this place. This house was one of our favorites too just because of the charm and feel of it. So if you are looking for a luxery home this is not it. This house is about tropical charm on a Caribbean beach with cocnut Palms hammocks. When you think of Puerto Rico, The Caribbean sea with clear warm water of all colors. , Coconut Palms, Tropical houses This house is that package. Go for it! We sure are glad we did! Oh yes and we were able to bring our dog! Sherry was great about my Mother not being able to leave her little "Tinker" at home!!!! Baker Family (Flintwood, Colorado.)

Owners response: Another great review! Thank you so much. I do allow pets with some limitations. I have allowed pets on many occasions so I am glad to have helped out with your Mother in this situation. June has been a good month and much needed after the unusual hard stormy May we had this year. I thought we might end up with a very hard summer of rain but am very happy that it has calmed down and my guests are enjoying thier much needed vacation time. I am booked full to the end of August so I am hoping for all my guests the weather stays steady. Thanks for letting me know about You Tube. I have videos of the house and yard on there now. All you have to do is type in Casa Caribe Del Mar or Casa Caribe Del Sol and they come up. You guys were great to help me out with that and of course took good care of my home so thank you again and do hope you return again soon.

"Stayed 3 places" Our Favorite was this HOME

Review submitted: July 10, 2011   Date of arrival: June 8, 2011

My husband and myself along with our 2 adult children and their spouses decided to take a two week vacation and cover land and sea. Our first 2 nights in PR we stayed at El Conquistador a 5 star resort before leaving for our Caribbean cruise out of San Juan, ending our trip for a 5 night stay at Casa Caribe Del Mar after our cruise . Both the resort and cruise were amazing with all amenities and frills they should have had for the price it cost per room per night. Down side on this was with 6 of us we needed three resort rooms and ship cabins, triple the cost of the beach house per night. The surprise for me was this house was unique where I find resorts and ships are very similar where ever you go. We also had beach front property and ocean views that we did not have at the resort and just a window in our cabin. The ship was great fun, but rough waters gave my daughter a bit of motion sickness. I also can get nauseated with some of the strong engine smells associated with cruising. But we really had fun overall with both these experiences. The big surprise was we were unanimous in that our best experience during our trip was our time at the beach house. The location was beautiful and we felt we were truly experiencing authentic Puerto Rico. The house was clean and spacious. We felt less crowed all together under one roof each with our own room and an extra bedroom to spare. Much better than we did at both other places with separate much smaller rooms. The house was also very colorful and a true tropical old Spanish home with real character and was decorated with quality. Really a great airy space. The back yard was fabulous with tropical green foliage and Palm trees, hammocks. The views definitely the best of our entire trip. We experienced 3 very different types of vacation destinations. We expected the beach house to have less amenities as it was the economic part of our trip as it cost the least. Not the case at all. Our personal favorite of our entire trip and really want to share this information to anyone who is doing this for the first time as we did. I think less is more here leave the frills for the resorts. Simple, a bit rustic but everything you need to unwind and feel at home. Renting a beach front house was a new and unique experience that we will definitely do again. We will cruise again, but Casa Caribe Del Mar will be our final stop whenever we travel through PR!

Owners response: Thank you! This review was very informative on the differences between Resort, Cruise, and Home Rental vacationing. Also, this is low season and we have more rain and the water can get a bit rough this time of year so I do not get many reviews. Thanks for taking the time to send this in. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the house and the beautiful area where we are located. I love to cruise and we go on a cruise as often as possible before going to the house so I can have the best of both worlds :) I also have many of my guests who will stay at the house before or after a cruise so they can have more time to explore our beautiful green island. It's a great way to vacation. So glad you have found my hidden treasure and hope to have you back soon!

A Vacation home worth going back too!

Review submitted: July 1, 2011   Date of arrival: March 11, 2011

Just got finished booking our second trip to Casa Caribe Del Mar. Sherry asked that we leave a review from our first visit and am very happy to do so. We stayed for two weeks in March 2011. We are two families total of 4 adults and 3 teenage boys. The house is spacious and bedrooms are very good size. Very well kept and colorful and tropical. Queen beds in two bedrooms for the adults and very comfortable. Beds were fine for the boys as we didn't hear any complaints. Open closets smart idea. Central Air conditioning was great. Property and beach are just as you see on the web sites. The atmosphere is very quiet and laid back. Coconut Palms and hammocks in the yard. Spent a lot of time with an ice cold beer in a hammock looking at the ocean and look forward to doing that again. The food is great. The back porch is the best part of the house it is huge and covered. Sweet! When planning this years vacation we did talk about trying something new but in the end we all decided to go back with what we knew was a great place. This great place and the memories created during our first visit was enough for all of us to want to go back. No better compliment than that.

Owners response: Thank you sooooo much! Yes the best compliment is a return guest and I am very happy to add you to that elite guest list. I can count on my return guests to take the best care of my home and I know they really love being there. In turn I always give that return guest discount that will hopefully be another incentive to keep you coming back :) Another very smart decision is you booked 8 months in advance. Booking early ensures you get the exact peak season dates wanted. For future guests I book in full from the middle of November to the end of April and my peak weeks go as early as a year in advance.
Thanks Again seems I always get reminded from wonderful guests like you of how fortunate I am and the rewards of doing this for a living just when I need it!

Authentic Work of Art on the Caribbean Sea

Review submitted: June 25, 2011   Date of arrival: June 9, 2011

I am an Art Teacher from Boston. We took our family (husband and three kids 13,10,7) Parents and niece for vacation at this wonderful old funky Spanish house on the sea. The pictures are just as described and the location is exceptional. The weather was perfect and the ocean was like a lake and the children loved swimming. My family had the vacation of a lifetime. I read past reviews and was a bit concerned about some in the same month one being 5 star and the other with nothing but complaints. Over all I loved the pictures and was very comfortable after speaking with the owner so I decided I would go with the majority of reviews which were very good. I could not have made a better choice and find that the owner has had a problem with some people as it is certainly not her home or location.
I want to point out some things most do not talk about. I have an eye for mass produced art over a piece that is one of a kind. There are many details in this home. I would like to mention what I has not been talked about . There is original hand cut metal art all over the walls of geckos, frogs, Sea turtles etc. There are some mass produced pictures in the bedrooms but there is one large acrylic and oil original on the living room wall. Very beautiful. There is also stain glass art in every room each piece is one of a kind. The headboard in the master was hand carved. The doors throughout including the bedrooms are all solid teak. This house was decorated with care to details with simple tropical flare. The house itself art as the architecture is from late 1800's and the terrazzo floors again old but polished to shine and again one of a kind. Of course the beach and views were breathtaking. The house more than we could have hoped for. Fresh fish brought by Irene a sweet girl.
As for complaints I read. In my opinion I want to thank the owner for NOT having glass dishes. My son dropped a bowl with a watermelon. It shattered but the bowl rolled to a stop. I can think of at least 3 times a cup of juice was dropped. Lastly my husband made a picture of Margaritas one night. By the way there is a blender, toaster and other small appliances, beautiful stainless steal flatware, cooking utensils and a good set of pots and pans. Anyway dropped the plastic Margarita shaped glass on the porch . It was nice to pick it up rinse it off and fill it up again instead of cleaning up glass. This house and location are perfect for families like us.

Owners response: Thank you for the wonderful review! You could not have said it better about my having some people problems now and then, as I have different people stay each week but my home and location always stay the same. I know all us vacation rental homeowners deal with problem people as it is just part of our business. What I can say is 98% of my guests are like you. I rent out a minimum of 40 weeks a year the highest rental on the south side. So many see the beauty in my old Spanish home and all I have done to renovate it and love the location. I get great emails from them but it is a bit of a hassle to leave a review. Therefore only 3% of my guests get around to doing this. So I so appreciate very much your taking the time. Also thank you for noticing the unique pieces I have collected over the years. To have a professional notice and like them is a true compliment. The dish ware is made of acrylic and really is not plastic. It actually cost more than a set of Walmart glass ware. I have acrylic in my home for the safety of you my guests...... as you pointed out the reason why. I cater to families who have children and yes cups and dishes do get dropped. Even adults have their spills. When dropped on the busy Stone Terrazzo patterned floors it shatters in every direction and it can be hard to find every piece of broken glass. It is not worth anyone getting cut or a child with a tiny piece of glass in a foot or knee. I will not change this for the few who will find anything to complain about. For future guests my reviews are either very good or very bad. Bad reviews are guaranteed for two main reasons. Bad weather as you always hear when the ocean is rough but not often enough when it is calm and clear, The other is for a deposit kept for damages or fees. I will say again I have had to keep three deposits in five years and got a bad review for each one. I always pay a far higher price in a bad review on top of damage costs. In any case It has been a great year with only a couple problem people mostly looking for a freebee here or there. I am fortunate to have this great home and wonderful people like you to share it with. Thanks again and hope to see you next year.

Nice house but...

Review submitted: June 23, 2011   Date of arrival: May 13, 2011

My family rented this house for our two week vacation this May. The house does look like the photos and the setting is beautiful. The housekeeper and her family were great.

We have rented houses before on vacation w/o any issues. These are the issues we had with the house:

When we arrived garbage was overflowing, on the ground with animals getting to it. My husband picked this up and put the garbage out for pick up. There are two small cans with no lids. With the stray animal population, this is an issue. Ben was picking up garbage all the time.

The solar shower system was pathetic. We all got one hot shower in two weeks and had to heat water for dishes and the baby's bath.

No internet for almost a week.

Only two rooms have good mattresses. The bunk was awful as was the twin. Thus, it should not be booked for more than 4 adults (2 couple) and kids. The doors don't shut except on the master bedroom so no privacy.

We knew about the leak in the laundry room and by the sink before we arrived and were offered to switch over to Sherry's other house. However, we had ceiling leaks in two of the bedrooms and the other house was occupied during the second week.

We lost power in the master bathroom and the ceiling fan in the bedroom. When the electrician came in he said the wire was fried and could have caused a fire in the bedroom the baby was sleeping in. We took pix of the cracked wet ceilings.

The stove is very old and finicky.

As for the fully equipped kitchen, there is tons of plastic ware in the kitchen, no glassware.

The road outside is busy and noisy, you have to back in to the garage which is a bit sketchy.

The riptide out in front of the house means you need to swim to the side of the house. I would not have felt safe with small kids swimming.

Last but not least, the owner is keeping my deposit because of fees associated with PayPal. She allowed me to make payments on the house and states there were fees associated with this. She also told me she would send me the deposit back in full if I did not write a review.

Owners response: This vacation was a tragedy for these people from start to finish. They planned this vacation back in 2010 and asked if I would make an exception for them as they could not afford to pay the full amount in one lump sum and wanted to make payments over the months. I said ok but will not do this ever again as I ended up getting several payments in different amounts sometimes two payments in a month or one or none etc. I did explain that this would cost them in Pay Pal fees and extra bookkeeping fees for 12 plus billings instead of my normal 1 bill. But I would make it up by giving them a very discounted rate on the rental as I can not discount the 3% Pay Pal fees. I am not allowed to disclose the amount in my response but it was very generous from my web site rate and more than made up for any fees Pay Pal charged . In the end she thought I should give her the discounted rate, do all the separate billings for free and pay the 130.00 in Pay Pal fees as well and give her back the 300.00 deposit.
The problem was after making all these payments and planning this trip for several months, when they finally got to Puerto Rico it was the worst weather possible, high strong winds, rough seas and torrential rains. It did cause a leak in my roof before they got there. I already had the roof repair scheduled for the first sign of sun. I also had the other house available for them. They wanted to stay as the leak was not that bad. We got another leak in the bedroom that caused a short in the fan and light only. There was never a chance of a fire from this and I was able to get the leaks and the electric fixed right away. Unfortunately the sun only came out for a couple of days during their entire trip. Even the sunny days had very strong winds and rough seas. They were very disappointed and I do understand this but I can not be responsible for weather. And I took care of the repair right away even sooner than I expected I could have due to the sun coming out the next two days. I still offered them money back but they wanted more. I absolutely did not offer them a refund in exchange for not leaving a bad review. I am sure they would have taken that in a heart beat. I will gladly show the string of emails to prove her review statements on this are false. I think she found every bad thing ever said about my home in past reviews and put it all in one review. I am sorry that it was such a disappointment but why people take it out on me is unbelievable.

Wonderful Family Vacation!!

Review submitted: May 5, 2011   Date of arrival: April 23, 2011

My three brothers and their wives, and my daughter and I were very pleased with our vacation! It was just as we expected! To wake up to a beautiful sunrise on the beach, and to watch the sunset as you listen to the ocean and feel the breeze on your face was the best! Watching my family lay on the hammocks on the yard while the rest of my family sat on the porch enjoying themselves is just something I cannot put into words!! I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to use your home for our family vacation!! We have many memories and pictures to cherish for ever. And once my daughter uploads our family pictures onto the computer in your beautiful beach house, I would like to share some with you. Once again thanks for a beautiful vacation in Puerto Rico.

Owners response: Thank you for the great review it came just when I needed it most. I have had 22 famlies stay at my home in the last 14 weeks just since January. Less than 10% take the time to write a review. I so appreciate it very much. With great famlies like this who take good care of my home I get their deposit back to them right away. I had to keep a deposit this year and one last year. They both left a bad review. They ruin my things and then try to ruin my reputation. This last one said my home was not clean and that was very hurtful. My house may not be brand new but I always make sure it is very clean. In fact I have never had this complaint in 4 years of renting. Thanks for making me feel better about my job and my home. It is my goal to find famlies like you who make the best out of this beautiful paradise we have and that all come back with memories like yours. It is a very special place and I am glad to share it with famlies like you. Can't wait to see the pictures and of course you will get my return guest discount when you visit Casa Caribe Del Mar again. You guys are the best and made my day :)

Good view only

Review submitted: April 29, 2011   Date of arrival: April 2, 2011

Well, where do I start.

The pictures of the beach and back yard are definitely accurate. Beautiful in the morning and at night.

You cannot swim on the beach however. The current is way too strong. We had to find alternate beaches a few miles away.

The house was actually very dirty with very poor maintanance. This house needs a lot of work, cleaning and updating. It seems the cleaning staff only do the minimal.

Upon arrival we had to thoroughly scrub, clean all linens and make all the beds. The ants and dead bugs when we got there were quite disturbing and had to go buy $100 in cleaning products and bug killer.

There is no china or real glasses. You have to eat off plastic plates and drink out of plastic cups which is OK but when you pay this much for a place, you would expect the owner would invest $20 on some WalMart china plates at least.

We found dead bugs in the freezer, many of the lights had no bulbs, the fans did not work in most rooms and we coudl not cook in the oven because it did not work., The oven was filthy and with no restaurants open during the week we had to make do with cooking on the gtill.

Would not recommend anyone stay here and I am really astounded at the rave reviews. Sounds a little suspect to me. By the way the "top of the line new leather furniture" is actually vinyl. I am in the plastics industry and can smell vinyl a mile away. It seems the owner may have been sold a bill of goods here.

I have some real pics of the place. I took them as soon as we got there just in case.

Owners response: I kept this parties deposit because their were dirty dishes under the beds in the bedrooms and choclate milk spilled all over my patio furniture canvas couch and chair. A lot of it everywhere. It could not be cleaned and I had to have it all recovered. Ironic that she said she had to scrub my house and left things dirty and damaged. I have learned that a bad review will be retaliation for keeping a deposit. I have had over 100 very happy and satisfied parties stay in my home in the last 4 years and have had to keep only 3 deposits. I think HomeAway should protect us home owners from this type of retaliation from happening.
It states in my contract that you are to keep my house in clean and sanitary condition while you are there. I am very fortunate to have the majority who come respect my home while they are there. This party did not do this and I sent her the pictures as proof of why I was keeping her deposit. They did not scrub my house or spend money on cleaning supplies. This is rediculus. I would not be booked in full and have the good reviews over many years if my house was dirty with bugs!!! I got one complaint while they were there about the fact that they could not do LAPS in the ocean and that there was too much coral. What can I say about that. They should have rented my house with the pool? My guests love the shallow water and all the coral and sea life as I do. I can't change that nor would I want too.
Here are her truths.... The light fan fixture in the kitchen has only the light turned on. The air flow is strong in that room so we turned off the fan portion and only use the light. All other fans are in working order. The dishes are plastic. The best I could buy. The floor is a natural stone product (Terrazzo) and glass will shatter if dropped. So no I do not provide china at my beach house...But I do buy the best of everything I can including 500 thread count sheets, beach and bath towels etc. I can not predict when a light bulb will burn out but I have a supply of them always in the laundry room. I was told the Brand New furniture I bought is leather. It is beautiful and NEW. Why is this a complaint? In every case the deposit I kept did not cover the cost to replace the damage and then I have to deal with these kind of people who try and hurt my business. I do not want to ever keep a deposit. I have had so many wonderful people come and enjoy my home. But I guess I have learned there is a bad apple in every barrel.

A most relaxed vacation!

Review submitted: February 24, 2011   Date of arrival: January 30, 2011

This lovely house has become our "second home." This was our third February visit, and we have already booked it for 2012. Favorite activities start with rising early to greet a spectacular sunrise, with coffee in hand, by just stepping out to the verandah. Walking barefoot, when back home in Michigan they are wearing snow boots. Swimming in the ocean with no one else in sight! Gathering shells on the beach. Drinking Margaritas at "happy hour" while sighting hummingbirds, lizards, pelicans, frigate birds, terns, and an occasional egret. Dinner, again on the verandah, while the sun sets. Ideal vacation for physically challenged, as the house is 100% accessible. We cooked all our meals in the well equipped kitchen, and washing dishes was a pleasure while gazing out at the garden, the beach, and the far horizon out at sea. Groceries are easy to get in Patillas, 10 minutes away, and a few new Supermercados have opened recently in Arroyo and Guayama. We also made a stop at the Costco in Caguas. (Behind the mall on Rafael Cordero, and about 45 minutes away.)

Owners response: Thank you for this review and so much more Sylvelin. I wish I could post some of the pictures you have sent me during your stay. The one of the sunrise will go on my websites as it is the best ever taken. I also love the one of reverand Jack smiling in his wheel chair on the veranda with all the shells you collected on the beach in the back ground. He just looks so happy to be there. Another picture of fresh baked bread and wine on the table with the sea as a backdrop that one belongs in a magazine! And so many other pictures of all of you having a wonderful time. For future guest this is a party of one handicapped man and 2 couples that come and stay every year. The first stay 3 years ago was 2 weeks. Each year they extend their stay for the next year. They are now up to a 5 week stay in 2012. This has become thier home in the tropics to get away from the cold winter weather . The 2 couples are outdoor fun people and lively and seem to really enjoy the beach and beautiful surroundings. I am at peace while they are there as I could not ask for better guests to be in my home. I am returning their deposit this year and will not need one ever again. I no longer feel the need to hold on to a security deposit for this party. Not only does she take excellent care of my property, She has become my eyes and ears of the condition of the house and staff while she stays. I have not met them in person, but hope to one day, as we have become great friends out of sharing the love of this home. Yes it is thier home too and I am blessed to have gotten the best there is to share it with. Until next year I will be seeing you on Face book :)

Great Large House On Carribean

Review submitted: February 13, 2011   Date of arrival: January 2, 2011

Our family stayed in the great large house on the Carribean the week of January 2nd, 2011. It is as advertised and the customer service of owner and caretaker was very good. We found the house was very clean and we took good care of it and received our full deposit back. The house is close to the road at the back of the lot, but has a wonderful front yard, with great bushes and landscape. It is close to the beach and the elevation from the house to the sand and water is perfect. The house is spacious and is well furnished and supplied. The community is a quiet local area and is not a tourist area. The view from the house and large porch on the water side is beautiful and the edge of the lot on the water has large palm trees. Our family of 8 adults would rent this house again if we were visiting this area. Sandi

Owners response: Thank you so much for the great review! I am sorry that the livingroom furniture was stained and torn. I was there in November and my beautiful tan 4 year old leather couch, love seat and chair looked a bit worn on the seems of the couch but overall in excellent shape. My guests who come in Febuary for 3 weeks every year sent me pictures and I was saddened to see it had been misused in such a short time. It is very important that you my guests come to a clean and beautifully furnished home. I have since spared no expense in replacing all the furniture with new top of the line chocolate brown real leather furniture. This time two love seats and couch as the room is large enough for the extra seating. It looks great against my caribbean blue walls. I have updated my web sites so take a look :) Other than that I am so glad you enjoyed both houses and the beach and yard. I do hope you decide on us again.

Only 3 days of sun but a whole lot of fun :0)

Review submitted: February 8, 2011   Date of arrival: September 12, 2010

Here is my review at the owners request, I will give our experiences of our week in PR the good and bad!
I am a contractor and my wife and our friends are 3 teachers for a private school. Their first semester is at the end of September so we decided to get away due to a low season rate special for this home. We booked the second week in September. Sherry called me a week before our departure and said there were rain storms expected to last about two weeks and that she had a week open at the end of the month if we wanted to re-schedule.(this is an owner who takes care of her guests) Would not have had gotten that call if we booked at a hotel right? We could not and decided to go regardless. She did mention that her side of the island was the dry side and that did turn out to be a real plus for us. It still rained but nothing like we saw was happening on the news on other parts of the island.
The first 4 days it rained day and night. However we had the huge back porch to sit and play cards during the day and the yard and views were fantastic. There is also a great DVD collection and two tv's. Sherry had us buy 10 more movies and she paid for them. We also watched shows on regular TV. Oh and we always had hot showers even with the rain. We were glad the air conditioning was manual as we did not need it during this time. Another plus is the market was 5 minutes away. Being stuck in the house was not so bad considering the beautiful place we were. This home is one of the best built homes I have been in. They don't build them like this anymore. It is solid form poured concrete not block. Cost a fortune to have one built like this today. So what I read about the termite thing is rediculus. No termites in this house lol. Traffic was probably slower due to rain and it also drowned out any noise, but no noise problems for us. What we didn't like is the north side San Juan was trashy, graffitti and dogs everywhere. The roads good but the road signs are a joke. Bring a map and GPS! So glad we stayed on the south side. Tropical, beautiful!
On the 5th morning we got up and it was like the house got dropped in the land of OZ :) The sun was out making the colors of the warm water sparkle. It was hot and humid, air cond came in handy and cooled the house in minutes. We planned an outing but could not leave the yard and beach. Sherry let us extend our trip at NO cost and we stayed an extra day. For service and accomodations I have to give 5 stars!

Owners response: I am so happy to see this review. Thank you! I go to Puerto Rico at least 4 times a year when I have an opening to work on the house and check on my staff. But September is always my month! I go at this time every year as I save the best months for my guests and give a discounted rate for those who need this time of year to travel. Being a property owner in Puerto Rico, I love the rain. It washes our island and keeps it green and beautiful, it also cleans the foliage of fungus and disease. It washes out our fresh water rivers, streams and lakes making the water fresh and clean and plentiful with waterfalls all year long. It also makes my garden green and grow. I plant bulbs and work on my garden in the warm rain and I love it. I actually wait for the rain to do my gardening as it is refreshing and much better than working in the sun. The ground is soft and everything I plant is watered right away. When I am done I swim in the rain too! Each time I come back I get to see the beautiful flowers from the bulbs I planted. If you read my other reviews most will say how beautiful the yard is and this is why. I know of course rain it is not what my guests want on their vacations at least not everyday. But for me it is not vacation time. Although I will say it's the best job in the world. As getting to go to the tropics and garden is therapeutic but I also go at this time to update and redo all things in the house from linens to dishes. Servicing the air conditioner and having all the appliances checked etc. And no the house can not be hurt by termites but I have had them in my trees in the front. The exterminator got rid of the termites and these giant catapillars that eat everything in sight. He did not remove the termite mounds and I have since had them removed by the gardener. And yes they have gotten in my house even though my house is completely screened they got in my antique headboard after the extermination. Thanks to one of my guests who found it right away and no wood damage was done and I had it treated right away and problem solved. Just one of many things that come up through the years. All part of keeping my house and yard up. Thanks again for this review. It shows there are those out there that can make lemonade out of lemons. I can never promise perfect weather but I can promise a wonderful, beautiful place to come and stay. Thank you for choosing my home and seeing the beauty through rain:)

Best Home Rental in Puerto Rico

Review submitted: February 6, 2011   Date of arrival: October 17, 2010

Sherry sent me an email and asked that we write a review due to a bad review she recently got! Really I should have done this sooner but better late than never. We stayed for 9 days in October 2010. Took my wife and 3 children along with parents to this great home right on the Carribean sea. Franchesca got us 7 lobsters smallest one was 3 lbs for 35.00 bucks. Fresh caught that day. My wife was crazy about this house. It was everthing she hoped for and loved the furniture and decorations and the kids had the time of their lives. I spent most of the week on the hammock just chilling and watching my kids play in the water. My Mother cut flowers from the garden for the table every night. She loved the yard and I got such a kick watching her. The water is great for swimming because it was very warm and shallow and we could snorkle around the large patches of coral. We saw a small octopus and the kids went wild about it. There are tide pools down the beach and it was a real learning experience for my kids. Youngest son had a bowl full of sand crabs that I made him let go everyday. My parents enjoyed the back porch and sat in the shade and watched as we all played and swam till the sun set. Great home, beautiful water and the best we have ever had in a family vacation. Saw the bad review. BELIEVE me these people have some mental issues to have written that. Not sure how they can live with trying to hurt a person who is running a good business and provides what she advertises and a lot more when you get there. I will tell you there is nothing about this home that is creepy. In fact those people give me the creeps. For us it was the vacation of a lifetime in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Franchesca is a great manager and Sherry took her time to make sure we had all out tours together before our trip. Overall could not have asked for better service or a more perfect home to bring my family.

Owners response: Thank you so much for the wondeful review and defending my reputation. I am very fortunate to have so many guests like you enjoy my home. The people who wrote the bad review do not have mental issues. In fact we have made ammends to one another and all is good between us. She almost lost her 11 year old in the waters. The sea can be very unforgiving if you go to far out without proper gear. It was just very hard for them to come home with good memories of anything when a tramatic accident happens. We are all blessed that they came home safe. They know they did wrong by taking the kayak out in the reefs and that far in the water with no life jackets etc. She wrote things in anger and my response was in anger I am very sorry my response was so out of line. I encourage all to stay in our shallow safe waters and not go all the way out to the reef without proper gear. There are plenty of large patches of coral to explore the sea life right in our shallow waters and I have been out to the reef and sea life is no different. The ocean is not my property but I want all to be safe and have a wonderful time and explore in the shallow waters as you and your family did during your stay. Thank you again. I have asked many past guests to send reviews and I appreciate yours and hope to see you all again soon!

GOOD: The pictures online represent the living areas, kitchen, back patio and beach area accurately. The views are stunning and picturesque. We would get up every morning and watch the sunrise over the water. There are plenty of utensils, cookware, towels, linens, etc.
BAD: The hot water heater is solar powered with no backup heat source. If it’s cloudy, you will have cold showers as we did on several days. The noise from the road at night is bad, with weekends being even worse. The bedrooms for adults back up within 15 ft of the road. Even with a solid retaining wall, some large trucks whizz by so fast that the front gate rattles loudly. There is no construction in the area, it’s just normal traffic. The front and side exteriors of the home are creepy. Dead vines and overgrown shrubs cover the area; there was even an old termite colony the size of a bee hive that hovered right over the main drive where you park. When we arrived, we were so shocked by the dreary, dark appearance that we drove right past it. The cable TV is a joke, no quality channels at all. The oven did not work for more than 5 minutes at a time and we had a lot of food we couldn’t cook. The A/C can only be on for 6 hours at a time and is either on or off by manual control. No dressers in any bedrooms, we lived out of suitcases. UGLY: Getting out of the house and onto the road is tricky. The house sits on a curve and Puerto Ricans drive very fast. The ocean was a little rough when we were there and this house is about 20 feet from a very dangerous riptide (a warning sign is posted by the authorities). The current pulls you right into this riptide. Coral is all over and very near the surface. The beach is a mix of rocks and sand. We have been to many beaches in PR and this one is one of the worst for swimming. I WOULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS HOUSE IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN. I’m sure the owner will downplay the beach condition, but I’m telling you as one mother to another, this area is not safe. We had 3 adults (1 of which was a special forces scuba-qualified swimmer) and one child trapped in that riptide. They all got cut up badly and by the grace of God, a “local” who was spear fishing in the area came and rescued them (he had the proper gear, fins etc. and knows the area).
Honestly, I’m a little baffled by all the high reviews. Property amenities, at every turn, scream cheap. Owner is an enigma. Will agree to address problems one way and then won’t. Too much stress for a vacation.

Owners response: An owners worst nightmare!
I knew this review was coming as I was told I would get bad reviews if I did not refund their rent. We have been warned in our Homeowner seminars of scams like this! Since most of the bad in this review is nonsense I will address what I went through with this party. I rented to 11 people my max allowed in my home. I have done this many times over the years without problems or complaint.

Problem #1 on the 4th day of their stay I got a call from my neighbor that this party had a Kayak on the coral reef and it flipped over and someone almost drowned! I have NO kayaks on my property!!! Anyone who knows what they are doing would never put a kayak on a coral reef! I called concerned if all was OK and where did they get a kayak. They said that their friends brought the kayak. I informed them it states in my contract for liability issues any extra guest visits other than who is on my contract must be requested in advance and they did not do this. Reasons are someone getting hurt on my property not on my contract to 30 or more flushes of the toilet a day. I informed them as professionally as possible that these friends would have to leave immediately.

Problem#2 5th day...They called me that oven was not working. I had it repaired that same day. When my Property Mgr came with the repair company there were 5 cars and she counted about 16 people There was also a blow up mattress in my living room. I called them again about this and they said their friends are not spending the night. My house comfortably sleeps 11 if this were true....Why the blow up mattress? Why were these friends still there? I told them that all friends and extra cars are to leave while my property mgr was there.

Problem#3 They called me that night and said they wanted to leave early and stay with their friends. They demanded a refund for the remaining days or half the rent paid. At this point I really wanted them out of my home! I am not obligated to give them any refund. In fact because they broke my contract terms I could have evicted them. But to get them out without any more problems I offered a one night refund. They refused and said they would and their friends would all give me bad reviews.

PLEASE read all my other reviews, I have many great reviews before and after their stay. You will find my home and location are not the problems here. And no I will not pay people money they are not owed because they threaten me or my business!

BEST Vacation location and HOME ever

Review submitted: January 30, 2011   Date of arrival: January 2, 2011

Family of 7 stayed in the month of January. First time in Puerto Rico and we will be back every year! This house has everything we were hoping for and SOOOOO much more. The details of stained glass windows and the picture windows walking in are breath taking. Waking up to that everyday was truly the best. We sat in the hammocks under the coconut palms and soaked in the fresh ocean air and watched the sunsets and sunrises in disbelieve that this was a reality. The house is a great size and extremely well kept and clean right down to the inside of the cabinets and lamp shades. Linens smelled so fresh when we turned down the beds. House also had everything in cookware and full size appliances throughout. House was no cookie cutter track home it is a Spanish piece of history right on the beach shore, completely renovated with keeping the authentic charm of the past. Very cool with the central air and in minutes of turning it on in everyroom. The beach was lined with the Palms quiet and so beautiful and clear. I sat on a beach chair on the shore and let my two and 5 year olds play in the warm calm water. Such a quiet peacful little town. One thing to make sure to bring is bug repellant. The mosquitoes come out in the morning and then at night when we were BBQing. They are also up in the Carite Forest. )(A great palce to go for the day) When we got back I had some bites on my feet. Sherry did warn us of this but we had to get a couple of bites to get the message. Over all this is my only complaint and it had nothing to do with the house location or management. No need to wonder why this place is the number one spot. If you want to go better book a head as she gets full every year! We have already booked next year's trip to this private beautiful paradise!

Owners response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review and the letter! You mentioned in your letter how many things were new and what a nice surprise and special touch that was for your family! The reason for that is most things are replaced every couple months. Because of all the bookings we have had this past couple years, we have been able to do our regular upkeep along with upgrades and constant replacement of items in the house from dishes to linens, towels and bedspreads and mattresses, DVD's board games etc. Keeping the house updated and improving on it has been wonderful thanks to all the guests that have come and shared our home with us. Our intention is to continue to improve on our home and replace as much as we can and as often as possible so all can enjoy and experience a wonderful vacation as you did. Thanks again...seems the reviews are pouring in these days. We so appreciate all the hard work and love we have put in to our colorful tropical home along the shore and under the coconut palms :)

Pleasant vacation beach house

Review submitted: January 30, 2011   Date of arrival: January 23, 2011

This is a wonderful spot to have a quiet, private vacation. The beach is lovely and deserted most of the time, the yard is beautifully landscaped with a pleasing array of plants, the scene is picturesque. The house has interesting stained glass arches above the reg. windows - a very nice touch!. Not having to bring beach towels is a nice plus...WE ended up having roaring waves which we decided were a nice diversion with the background noise it provided--just takes you away with the sound. Also, Sherry told us to go ahead and use the pool next door, since the house was empty, so we could have a relaxing swim--very generous, thanks Sherry! :) We used the bbq and made some chicken which was actually smoked - excellent- never did that before. Francesca is delightful. We LOVED reading our books in the hammocks--the perfect way to spend vacation!

Owners response: I got a 4 star rating on this review based on very rare rough seas from a storm on the south side about 75 miles out to sea during their stay! The sea was not safe to swim in for a few days. The storm passed and the rest of that week was on and off with rain and our normal sunny beautiful weather for this time of year. Our sea is usually very calm and great for swimming especially for this time of year. Doing my best to make up for bad weather, as luck would have it I did however have a couple days open at the other house. This is why I allowed this party to use the pool at no extra cost, to make the best out of their vacation. This was the only thing I could do for them as of course there is nothing I can do about the weather or when we have rougher waters than expected! For my future guests writing reviews, please understand that this effects my over all ratings that should be based on accomodations and service and not weather condtions! I know this party had a wonderful time and loved the house as I spoke with them during their stay and I provided the best possible service I could under these conditions. I do not want to sound ungreatful. In fact a 4 star rating is very good and I am very thankful you took the time to write it. My ratings are important as it directly effects future bookings. But more important is what is said in these reviews. So thank you for the wonderful review! There was nothing but great things said about my staff and home and me. So in the long run knowing you were happy with these very important factors is what matters to me most and what my goals are in achieving for all my guests! Thanks again and I do hope to see you next year!

Tropical Dream Wedding Destination

Review submitted: January 25, 2011   Date of arrival: January 11, 2011

There are several reviews on Homeaway about this house all the way back to 2008 I rented it for this reason. But I originally found it here so I really wanted to share on this site as well. This house is an amazing place!
After looking at several venues in Puerto Rico. We decided on this lovely home to have our wedding and honeymoon all in one spot. We came in a week before our wedding and stayed the week after. We had 25 people in the yard and the sea as our backdrop as we said our vows! Our guests stayed down the beach at Caribe Playa and we had the privacy of this home for the rest of our honeymoon. I can not say enough about how beautiful this home was. It had all the authentic charm I was looking for. Beautiful, clean, peaceful. The porch was to die for and sitting in the hammocks under the coconut palms was amazing and memories forever. I will also have to say that Sherry took care of everything from flowers to decorations to food and setting up reservations at the hotel for my guests. I hace to say she did not let me worry about anything. She was there with whatever I needed through the 5 months it took to plan my wedding. Completely professional in every way. Everything was a dream come true for me. I could not have picked a better spot or a more wonderful staff as Sherry set all this up for me. Not easy as I live in Nevada. There were 10 of us girls in the house the first week and we had a blast. Just me and my husband the second and I will tell all this is the spot! Sunsets, sunrises, warm water and blue sky. Palm trees, fresh fish, It had it all. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true! THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL MAGICAL TROPICAL DREAM! Donna & Buddy

Owners response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review! This was my second wedding at the house and the guest count was perfect and so were the two of you! I had so much fun planning things that I would love to do this more often. Your family and friends were wonderful and have since written me wonderful thank you notes! I just want to thank all of you for choosing my home as the spot for this most special day. Your parents have already booked a week for themselves later this year. Thanks!!!!! And I hope to see the two of you in the future on anniverseries and maybe one day with your new growing family :)

Owners response: It was really great fun getting this wedding set up for you! This was my second wedding at the house so I am getting pretty good now with planning. I only allow small weddings like this as I know anything larger would not be as intimate and a bit to crowded. Thanks for letting me be a part of such a wonderful day in your life. I am so glad to have met you and your cute sweet hubby! You are perfect for each other! I have gotten 5 letters now from your parents and other family and friends with many thanks. I want to thank all of you for choosing my home! I hope you spend many anniverseries to come there in the future with that big family you plan on having :)

Tropical dream vacation getaway!

Review submitted: January 7, 2011   Date of arrival: December 1, 2009

Pictures are as described and we noticed many more details of how beautiful this house is when we arrived . There are thick teak doors throughout and hand done stained glass windows (pieces of art) in every room over the glass shutters. Walking in it took my breath away as I looked out the picture windows to the massive views of the sea dotted with Palm trees. We stayed the first week of December for 7 nights. We are a party of 10 with 4 adults and 6 children. Plenty of room! The house was kept up to my standards and I am very picky. I checked every room before letting my family unpack. Very Clean and spacious! The house slept us quite comfortably especially for 10 of us. The queen beds were in great condition and I could tell that the futon had a new mattress as well. Sheets were also new. Again I am very picky. Sherry also provided a pack and play for our baby. Bedrooms were not huge but all were equally and surprisingly large. Master was largest and had a wonderful antique bed but checked and the mattress looked new and very comfy. In fact I want to mention there were quality unique pieces of furniture throughout this home. It certainly did not feel or look like a rental. There were also plenty of big beach towels and a washer and dryer full size. I was able to make all my regular dishes as the kitchen had everything I needed and found it to be a pleasure to prepare meals while looking out to the sea from the kitchen window. The yard is very lush green and tropical. Palm trees, flowers, stargazers and other beautiful fragrant plants that made this yard a great garden for us to enjoy and for our children to play in. The beach was also very clean and we had it for the most part to ourselves. It is steps away from the house and yard and the water was amazing it was nice and warm with colors of greens, blues in every spectrum. The Caribbean sea is just so beautiful! Just right for swimming as there are no large waves, the water was like clear glass on most days. This small town has wonderful people who at all times made us feel welcome. Little beach front restaurants you can walk to from the house. Sunsets are unbelievable! Lastly Sherry and her staff are the best. Warm and personal when they were needed and made sure we knew they were there and to call anytime. I felt I really needed to leave a review as this place is exceptional and encourage all to make this home your choice!

Owners response: Thanks so much for the great review :) One correction is you stayed in December 2010 not 2009 and I so hope to see you all in 2011. There were a lot of you and you left my house in excellent condition. Thank you for that and the details you put on this review were wonderful! A group like your family are what I always hope to rent my home. I do hope to see you next year. With of course my return guest discount!

Home Away From Home :)

Review submitted: December 31, 2010   Date of arrival: November 24, 2010

We are 2 famlies of 4 adults and 4 children. This was our second vacation at this home. We stayed two weeks and and extra 4 nights. We plan on going every year. I have already booked our trip for next year for a three week stay as we wanted to extend our stay another week but Sherry only had 4 nights available before her next guests were to arrive. Because it was last minute she gave us great rates for the extra nights. This was great because we also got a discount on our original booking for being return guests. I have read all the other reviews and want to give my impression of this home! It is beautiful and spotlessly clean. It is what one would dream of in a home in the tropics. The house is colorful and beautifully decorated with top of the line furniture and bedding. It is fully equipped with everything from all kitchen supplies to beach towels, full DVD colllection and even board games. The location is the most beautiful we think of the entire island and we have traveled everywhere during our time there. The house is at the end of the most quaint fishing village and we always get fresh fish a couple of times a week. The town's fruit stands and resturaunts that we go to each year know the owners of this house and are so curtious and friendly. They appreciate the business that Sherry brings to this authentic Puerto Rican town. The beach is calm shallow and warm. Great for kids to swim and play and gorgous colors of blue and green so clean and clear. It's private and the views up and down the beach with Coconuts Palms are like the pictures right out of a magazine. Lastly I have read about the traffic noise! The house is on a street but at the end of town. It IS NOT heavly traveled. Yes there is some traffic all roads have this but NOISE is not an issue. After several weeks stay 2 times I do not understand what people expect. Across the street are green hills and views forever. The traffic is less busy than most roads. It is small town in an area with very little tourist traffic. This side of the island and this location are beautiful, peaceful and the management of this property is with a personal touch you can not get at resorts. We love it there and look forward to our next trip and soon as we get home! Janae Dawson

Owners response: This wonderful families first stay was in 2008! One of these guests comes to Puerto Rico often for business and brings his famliy and parents with him. On one trip they brought some friends and they have since reurned and stayed a week on there own! Thank you for the business. All my return guests get a very good discount, but I give even more of a discount for this type of referral. I need to make a correction as this is there THIRD stay lol. They were here for a short trip in August and again in November so they have stayed twice this year. Thank you so much for choosing my little piece of paradise. I am so greatful to accomodate a family who loves and respects my home! Thanks for all the pictures. I have used some of them on my web sites. You guys are great I have already blocked out your dates for your next trip. I am so happy to share my home with all of you!

The Best Vacation I have ever had

Review submitted: December 15, 2010   Date of arrival: November 19, 2010

The listing and photo's do not do this house justice. The laid back environment this house provides is unmatched to any other house rental I have ever done. The home is very clean and the property around it is beautiful.

I traveled here with my wife, 2 children (14 and 10) and my 70+ mother. We all agreed that this was the best vacation ever. We stayed over Thanksgiving and never had a better Thanksgiving. We would get up each morning and decide if we just wanted to relax play in the ocean or do a half day trip to all the small villages around.

I will say if you like a touristy fast paced vacation this is not the place for you. The locals are all very laid back and the shopping like a "local is amazing, whether you know spanish or not.

Even though we spent a full 7 days here we were not ready to return to our cold Kansas City home and have already started planning our return trip. Sherry, the home owner, is a dream to work with and is happy to give you everything you need in information to make your trip as special as ours.

Owners response: Thank you so much for the excellent review. It is the best complement I could ask for. It was great fun to help you with your plans before your arrival. I already knew you would love the house and location so I am always happy to help in advise with places to go and eat or see. This makes your experience personal with choices that suit your family's idea of a great vacation. Hearing the excitement of my guests before thier trip and knowing in advance where you will be has been such a pleasure. I am one of the lucky ones who I truly love my job in making dream vacations come true. You are the ideal family for my home and I hope to see you next year.....or sooner!

Secret Treasure for us lucky Enough to FIND!

Review submitted: September 29, 2010   Date of arrival: August 15, 2010

We are two families who take our children to PR for fun and exploring, swimming with an at home feel once a year. We have found our final destination. The picture do not do this property justice! It is so peaceful and beautiful, words can not describe how we felt waking up everyday to the beautiful ocean sounds and views as we drank coffee on the porch and the kids chased frogs and lizards on the grass. So much to say...The Palm trees that give shade and that amazing feel of the tropics. The sand and surf! Surf small enough for our kids to have fun in. The house has everything and such charm, impecable tast on the owners part as it is decorated to make anyone feel as this is their home while you are there. No scimping, everthing is an upgrade, So very clean, enough room for all 9 of us to move around. Comfortable beds, plenty of room. The nights and sunsets. The moon over the sea. The sunrises and warm waters to swim. The wonderful people. Franchesca was there at our every request from where to eat to where to shop. She is Sherry's (the owner's) property Manager. Amazing wonderful girl. It was easy to rent. proffessionaly done, from start to finish. We have stayed in homes in PR now three years in a row. We have found our final spot. No need to look further. No other place like it. Truly one of a kind. The best of everything. Don't settle for less..... If you are going to PR spend the extra couple hundred bucks. IT IS SO WORTH IT! Don't find out the hard way like we did.

Great house, great location!

Review submitted: July 15, 2010   Date of arrival: June 24, 2010

This property exceeded our expectations! There were 9 of us and the home accomodated us perfectly although the cots are more suited for small children than adults or teenagers. The porch, yard and beach are beautiful places to be and enjoy the weather. We were fortunate to be there during a full moon and spent almost every evening in the yard watching the moon come up over the water. We enjoyed the locals even though we spoke very little Spanish. There so many things to see and do within a 90 minute drive that we wished we had another week. Carite Forest has beautiful drive to the park with blue pools and waterfalls for swimming, rock jumping and rope swinging, about a 45 min drive. Another great, scenic drive is along 901 out of Manubo. Stop at a bar/restaurant overlooking the Carribean and meet some local people. Nandos, walk there by beach or road west of the house, is just a little pink open building. On Saturday night we enjoyed local music, dominos and ice cold beer at Nanados(not like in the States, very spontaneous and so informal). Francesca is very helpful and delightful!!

We love to hear when our guests like you who get out and experience the authentic Puerto Rican culture that you can not find in the busy tourist areas. Hope to see you next year.

Right at home here!

Review submitted: March 8, 2010   Date of arrival: January 31, 2010

We stayed here for the second time this February, this time for three weeks. It really does feel like home, and we are coming back in February of 2011 for another three week break from Michigan winter. Everything is as described in the ad. In a word---perfect. For our group, accessibility is a huge factor, and there is a smooth terrazzo floor, from the carport, to the bedrooms, to the front porch. And what a front porch!! We could just sit there for hours, watching the sunrise, the surf, and the palm trees swaying in the breeze. For a little more action, snorkeling is fun, and so is walking the beach. I would definitely recommend this place for any family, or group of friends, who want a relaxing retreat any time of the year!! It's a short trip to Patillas or Guayama for groceries and other necessities, and I got pretty good at backing into the carport, and that definitely makes it easier to get back on the road! There is some noise from traffic, (sometimes with loud radios) as the house is very close to the road, but that is the only downside to this paradise, and it's easily remedied, with ear plugs for light sleepers. It's about an hour from El Yunque, and Luquillo, where our favorite restaurant is the (Tex-Mex) Brass Cactus.

Owners response: Thanks again Sylvenlin,
I guess at this point I tell everyone my house becomes your house in Feb of every year! I have a few parties now that return at the same time every year. You guys were the first. It puts a smile on my face that I can be of service to the handicapped with Reverend Jack and provide a place for the rest of you and anyone who wants to getaway, play or just relax the day away. You guys are the best!!!!!!

Perfect getaway

Review submitted: February 16, 2010   Date of arrival: January 17, 2009

Our two families (4 adults, 4 children ages 4-7) shared this house in January 2010. We loved the house -- the porch, yard and beach right out the door were highlights. The house was clean and as described. The owner was responsive and helpful. If you’re looking for a peaceful place that’s off the beaten path, this is it.

Our only complaint was the quality of the beds in the 4th bedroom -- both the futon and the single foam mattress should be replaced. As other reviewers noted, traffic noise can be heard from the two main bedrooms, but it was not a major concern. Overall, we highly recommend it, and would definitely consider returning as well as renting both houses with a larger group.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers

Owners response: Thank you for the great review and comments. Your suggestions are how we learn to get better every year. We will be changing out the futon and twin mattress. We put new ones in about 2 years ago, but as we have doubled our bookings we understand that this needs to be done every year. Guests satisfaction is our priority. We would not be booked in full every year with all our high reviews if we did anything less than the best for all of you.
I finally understand about the traffic noise only some of my guests have experienced as I saw a truck drive down the road with large speakers "mounted on the roof". Very Loud! and against the law in the states. I have been told this is part of the Puerto Rican culture and happens all over the island. Good news is not often and certainly not everyday. I of course can not change this nor want to as I respect their culture and am greatful that I am allowed to own a piece of thier paradise. This was my first experience with this in 5 years. I am sorry for the select few who have had to experience this.

I stayed at Casa Caribe during the month Aug., 2009. It was truly an amzaing vacation and Casa Caribe was a wonderful place to stay. The house is beautifully decorated, very clean and spacious. It has gorgeous stained glass windows with beach/oceanic scenes. The view from the dining room iooking out at the palm trees and ocean is breath taking and very peaceful. I enjoyed sitting there during the early morning and evening hours drinking my tea and enjoying the tranquility. You'll have fun at the beach, which is actually just a few feet away while having all the comforts of home nearby. The house is conveniently located on route 3, which provides easy travel access to other parts of the island. I would definitely stay at Casa Caribe again and would recommend it to others.

Great Vacation

Review submitted: May 18, 2009   Date of arrival: April 4, 2009

This review will detail the good and the not so good:
First, the good:
I was soooo worried about what to expect, with internet fraud and all....but when we arrived, what a wonderful surprise it was.
The pictures on the website were exactly as the house looks.

We had a family reunion (2 couples, 1 adult, and 2 kids) and it was wonderful. The house was clean, spacious, modern, and comfortable. The beach was steps away from the beach. The beach was clean and clear. Just be sure to bring water socks as it is a bit rocky by the edge- consistent with the southeast beaches of PR. The house is fully stocked with all the necessities. There was a tv, music, dvd player, bbq grill, outdoor furniture to relax on- all in working condition. We had a wonderful time and truly recommend this home to anyone. The best part is walking out and being on the beach. As I cooked every day, I watched the ocean, which was therapeutic....and the night time views are unbelievable- magical!
I know you will create your own magical memories there as I did with my family.

The not so good:
Administratively, the process to rent the beach house was frustrating; lots of phone tag, and many missed emails. The noise from the main road when sleeping at night was bothersome to some guests. My final "not so good" comment is that I paid with PayPal and when I received my deposit refund, a fee was taken out, which was bothersome because I purposely paid using my bank account and NOT a credit card to AVOID this fee, but when the deposit was returned a fee was charged. I called the owner, but it was never resolved.

Owners response: Thank you for the review. We are happy to hear you had a great time. Pay Pal charges a flat $9.00 fee for some cash accounts, but not all. As promised, I am looking into why this is. I inquired as to what is going on with the excessive traffic noise lately and was informed by my Property Mgr of a traffic detour due to construction being finished on a tunnel two towns over. The tunnel is finished and all should be getting back to normal. We have a sandy beach, but there is a large coral reef out there and small stones, shells and pieces of coral can be washed to the waters edge, water socks are in a basket on the porch for all guests who wish to use them.

Very relaxing Vacation

Review submitted: May 3, 2009   Date of arrival: April 11, 2009

We enjoyed the beach and the beautiful palm trees. We were a party of 9 (4 adults & 5 kids). The house slept us comfortably, but the noise of the traffic was really loud. The house sits about 2 feet off of the road and it is heavily traveled. We cooked almost all of our meals, but the stove really did not work very well, so we had to charcoal grill most of our meals, it was like camping out. When we arrived we were very surprised at how ROCKY the beach was, not very good for small children. We sat in the backyard instead, but was constantly bitten by fire ants! There is a little sandy swimming cove with in walking distance to the house which the kids enjoyed very much. The kids kept busy by playing with their new pets, Hermit Crabs! The people were very friendly, and the weather was great.

Owners response: Our house is set back more than 20 yards from a small 2 lane road. Our house has a large 6 ft high very thick concrete wall and Iron gate with a front yard with (2) 30 ft Plumeria trees with Orchid and tropical plant garden between the road and the house. It's a very small beach town and traffic is usually not heavy or loud most of the time. Our beach can at times due to weather and tide changes bring in some small stones. We never have large rocks on our beach. Most of the time the beach is very sandy and we keep a sand patch on our property with beach chairs as well. We have a stove and oven in our home Most homes do not have ovens in the tropics. It is run with propane and is in top condition. But for some, not as good as a regular gas stove. There are no fire ants in our yard or on the entire island that I am aware of. There are some very tiny brown ants that will bite if provoked and come out if food is left on the ground. The bite will sting for a second but they are completely harmless and leave no marks. It's the tropics and after three years of renting and many children visits, this has been my first complaint about this. But thank you for letting me know this was a problem as I will be sure to have my gardener check the yard for excessive ant activity from now on. Thanks again for your comments as it is our intention to strive to make all our guest experiences be the best there is to offer in a home rental and enjoy our little piece of paradise.

A wonderful home away from home!!

Review submitted: February 21, 2009   Date of arrival: February 10, 2009

This house exceeded all our expectations. We are a group of two couples and a friend who is disabled. He found it very easy to navigate the lovely terrazzo floors throughout, even to the car in the covered attached parking, and out to the verandah. We made very good use of the kitchen, cooking almost every meal there, and enjoyed shopping in the local grocery in Patillas. Tomorrow we are going home to six inches of snow, and it will be hard to say good-by to this lovely paradise! There is comfortable seating everywhere, and always a magnificent view of the sea. Our two weeks just flew by!!

Beautiful House in Paradise!

Review submitted: August 19, 2008   Date of arrival: August 9, 2008

We looked forward to a vacation in paradise and it was even better than we could have imagined! The location of Casa Caribe del Mar is great because it is in an area of Puerto Rico that is off the tourists' beaten path. Staying there you get an authentic feel for the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the island. We traveled all over the island, but it was so nice to return each evening to a cozy home. The house is colorful and has lots of character--we would not have had the same Puerto Rican experience staying in a hotel. We were there during one of the warmest times of year, but the air conditioning in the house kept it perfectly comfortable. The beach is steps away from the back door and we usually had it all to ourselves...just us, the waves, and the coconuts! The house is well-maintained with even more amenities than we expected (books, DVDs, water shoes). There were just us two staying there, and we spent our time in Puerto Rico taking some adventurous trips and just relaxing, but the house would also be perfect for families or groups of friends traveling. Linda is a great resource for information about the island and it was nice to have someone to go to with questions about roads to take, where to eat, etc. For visitors to Puerto Rico, I recommend seeking out the diversity of the island. The island is quite varied in geography and scenery from white sand beaches to densely forested mountain ranges, from cosmopolitan cities to quaint towns with people riding horses down the street. Visiting the nearby island of Vieques was an especially fun experience. We saw all four coasts and the central part of the island, but I think Casa Caribe del Mar is truly the ideal place to stay in Puerto Rico!

Amazing rental...Wow!

Review submitted: February 23, 2008   Date of arrival: January 1, 2008

My family and I decided we were going to go on a Puerto Rican vacation, and wanted to stay outside of touristy San Jaun. We stayed at "Casa Caribe Del Mar", and it was more than we could have hoped for! The pictures of the house only begin to describe the house, with the warm ocean breezes and waves. The view was amazing, and the house was spacious and clean! The town of Patillas has lots of charm! We spent a week in Patillas, and we all wished we could stay for another week! The house is definitely a perfect vacation house for a family! We look forward to our next Patillas, Puerto Rico vacation...and, of course, I've been telling all of my friends about this little treasure! Thanks! Jeremy.

Best Vacation House and Location I have been On

Review submitted: February 13, 2008   Date of arrival: February 1, 2008

The house was clean and colorful. It was central air conditioning just push a button on the hallway and it cooled the whole house. Big picture windows in the living room and a big porch to bbq at night. The yard was awsome. We had 3 couples and we had a hard time leaving the beautiful back yard to go on our scheduled trips. Linda, was great ! We called her for a couple things and she came over and gave us great tips. She also has her own resturant and cooks unbelievable dishes at great prices. The caves were great and the rain forest was a long hike but woth the view. Beautiful wet green island. We loved comming back to the house at the end of our excursions and even canceled one because it was a perfect day in the yard on the beach. We will definitly be back next year. Truly the best house in the south.

We are very proud of the hard work and effort we have put into renovating and updating our property to make it the colorful and magical place it is today. Thank you again for appreciating or efforts and for reconizing Linda on her incredable cooking skills and what a great job she does in managing our property.
