Vacation w/o a rental car

Review submitted: October 7, 2013   Date of arrival: September 26, 2013

After choosing Charleston for vacation, doing some research plus talking to Ashton, we decided not to rent a car. Shuttle from the airport no problem, plus the loft was a perfect fit!, very comfortable, great location and a beautiful courtyard too! We were able to get around the city easily on foot and when tired, hop on the FREE trolly :) In 4 days we put many miles on our shoes. Walking the streets early in the morning (my personal favorite) love all the architecture & gardens. We were even able to take a plantation tour and the tour company picked us up at our door. We had no trouble filling the days and nights with lots of exploring, good food and fun. No need for a car :) Ashton's recommendations were all spot on. Oh,and you must try the fried green tomatoes at Blossoms yummm! Thanks Ashton

Quaint, comfortable, and very convenient location

Review submitted: July 15, 2014   Date of arrival: July 3, 2014

I stayed here recently with 3 young adult children. This couldn't have been in a better location - right in the heart of all the fun in Charleston - though calm and quiet. The place is cute, well equipped, and very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly.

Great vacation

Review submitted: June 22, 2014   Date of arrival: June 16, 2014

We are a 50's age couple and what a wonderful vacation we had in Charleston. As others have stated, this condo is in the heart of the French Quarter...where the all action is. The property owner provides a parking pass for your vehicle which was awesome. (The garage was two blocks away.) We did have to wait a bit to use the laundry services but the the machines are free. The loft has a well equipped kitchen and a very comfortable bed. In fact, we haven't slept this good in a long time. For young couples, there's even a Pack-N-Play in the upstairs closet. We like outdoor adventures, so we went across the bridge to Mt Pleasant to kayak at the pier on Shrimp Boat Lane. Lots of great seafood at this pier too. If shopping, seafood and good music are to your liking, then this is the perfect little place to stay. Owner was quick to respond to any questions or concerns.

30th anniversary weekend!

Review submitted: June 2, 2014   Date of arrival: May 17, 2014

What a PERFECT property for our anniversary weekend! The loft is beautiful, and has every ammenity that we needed. The location is PRIME! It made it possible for us to park our vehicle. We walked everywhere we went through the weekend. The courtyard was a great place both for morning coffee and evening wine. We met lots of super friendly folks...both other vacationers and regular staff for Lodge Alley. We couldn't be happier!

Little Bit of Paradise

Review submitted: June 2, 2014   Date of arrival: May 23, 2014

My family rented this condo for my mom for her Christmas present. She loves Charleston. We loved every minute of our stay. The whole condo was beautifully furnished. The bed was so soft and the pull out sofa bed slept wonderfully. It had a mattress pad to put on it and gave a great night's sleep. You could go out to the courtyard and sit and enjoy the weather, eat a meal and watch the squirrels play. You walk out onto the side walk and you can see the market place. Very convenient to all the restaurants and the park. We did not even have to use our car if we did not want to leave downtown. We did not want to leave. We would stay here again and again.

Fabulous Location and Great Property!

Review submitted: June 2, 2014   Date of arrival: April 29, 2014

My wife and I travel every year with our two Chihuahuas to visit Charleston. The location of the loft on East Bay Street is fabulous! There is a nice courtyard area to sit, relax and enjoy some refreshments.

The loft is situated on a property that is part of a hotel. It located just a block from the Market area, a block and a half from the waterfront, and easy walking distance to King Street. Once you arrive you can park your vehicle and leave it unless you are interested in traveling out of the city.

Excellent restaurants and shopping abound close by. My wife and I always enjoy stopping by Pearlz and oyster and martini bar located on East Bay Street and also the Rooftop Restaurant on Vendue Range.

The loft is nicely decorated, has a unique layout, and is very clean.

Ashton, the owner was very responsive to my inquiries and easy to work with.

We have stayed at downtown hotels in the past, but look forward to booking the loft in the future, due to the location, quality of the property, having a kitchen and the convenience.

Vacation Rental First-timers

Review submitted: June 1, 2014   Date of arrival: April 20, 2014

As first-time vacation property renters, I must say we had a great experience! The owner was so nice and pleasant to deal with and always very quick responses through email and text.

Location is everything! With two small children, we always have to make sure that our place is within walking distance of everything so that when the kids get tired and cranky we can easily walk back for a quick rest. You really can't beat the location of this property.

My only suggestion is that the owner perhaps update or even just have the draperies, rugs, couches and chairs steam cleaned every so often as my younger daughter and I couldn't stop sneezing for the first 2 days of our stay and the chairs really had a musty smell to them.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a nice stay. Would definitely come back and recommend this property to friends and family.

Owners response: Thank you for the information. We do have professional house keepers that take care of the loft, along with seasonal deep cleaning. I will have them add this to their list. We love that our guests have a great experience in Charleston.

Review submitted: April 9, 2014   Date of arrival: March 21, 2014

Before renting I had a fair amount of communication with the owner. He was always prompt in replying and addressed all of my questions and concerns. I did have to remind him to share with me the information of how to actually enter the apartment. When he did share this, he also included information about a few sights and nearby favorite restaurants along with a short summary of type of food and cost. He was right on with all of the suggestions! The parking permit was a definite plus as we parked our car and left only once to visit a plantation. We never had a challenge finding a parking spot in the lot.

This apartment/condo is in a fantastic location! You can walk to almost everything. The City Market is close as are the carriage rides and the many restaurants on Bay Street. The historic district and the waterfront are also nearby. Do walk to the fountains by the water. We especially enjoyed the pineapple fountain.

The pictures do adequately and correctly show the unit. Be prepared for the spiral staircase! If heights/narrow spots are a concern, be forewarned! We are retired and had no trouble moving up and down but we did take our time and hang on to the railing!

The WiFi was quite spotty. We kept having to log in every time we left the condo and then came back and tried to use it. At one time we went to the desk and were given a different password than the one in the apartment. So we couldn't figure out if the password changes weekly, monthly???

Having a washer and dryer was a bonus. We did not have to find change to use them. They worked well and quickly and were readily available when we wanted to use them.

Our major concern were some minor cleaning items--a dirty kitchen floor and some long hairs in the bathtub. You also need to know that the only bathroom is on the upper level. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, etc. TVs worked well and furniture was comfortable.

The Courtyard area was charming and was a great place to sit with a glass of wine at the end of the day before heading out to dinner. Plantings were attractive and well maintained.

All around great option

Review submitted: February 24, 2014   Date of arrival: February 20, 2014

Hard to beat location. Responsive owner. Smooth and easy check-in / check-out. Comfortable accommodations with a lot of space. Think other reviews about cleanliness are outdated - was not an issue. Courtyard is a real asset and makes for a great setup. Far superior option to the under-built Charleston hotel market. Plan to return in the near future.

Great Location for Spoleto!

Review submitted: December 6, 2013   Date of arrival: June 1, 2013

We attended Spoleto for the first time this year and chose Ashton's condo to stay for 7 nights. Basically the condo was fine.

There were a few issues when we arrived but they were handled well. We had never spent much time in Charleston but once we were there awhile we realized how important the location of the condo is and how valuable the garage parking pass is. Once we parked our car, we only took it out about twice because we walked to all the Spoleto activities all around town.

The condo is spacious with lots of light, plenty of seating and high ceilings. Since we were there in the summer, it was important that the A/C worked well which it did. We appreciated that so many condiments and little odds and ends were provided in the kitchen. We're vegan so we usually do a lot of our own cooking wherever we stay so a well equipped kitchen is essential. We had everything we needed in the kitchen here. We also liked that the condo is in a complex which has its own courtyard with umbrellas and a fountain. It's a nice place to escape the noise and activity of the rest of the city.
We really enjoyed our first Spoleto and our stay at Ashton's condo!

Outstanding Location + Great Communication

Review submitted: November 25, 2013   Date of arrival: November 15, 2013

This place is really, really nice. My wife and I wanted to get away for the weekend and this place was perfect for that. The owner had fantastic communication before, during and after our stay.

It comes with a parking garage pass so you are able to park your car and walk anywhere throughout downtown Charleston.

One of the best things about this loft is the fact you don't need except your coffee for the maker.

Nice Condo - Great location and price

Review submitted: November 19, 2013   Date of arrival: November 8, 2013

I stayed at this condo in Central Downtown Charleston during a friend's wedding. The rates were much more reasonable compared to the Downtown boutique hotels and the condo has been updated, so it's really nice. I booked through WalkAway Stays and they were easy to work with. The only complaint I have is that one guest stayed on the pull out sofa - but there were no linens upon our arrival. Once they were dropped off, they were the wrong size and not a complete set. My friend had to sleep on the less comfortable day bed without any linens. Otherwise, this is a wonderful condo, great location, clean, nice furniture, easy to access and get into. I would stay here again or recommend it to a friend.

Great place but terrible service.

Review submitted: October 31, 2013   Date of arrival: October 9, 2013

My husband, baby, & I rented this really cool loft for a couple of nights recently. It really is in an awesome location & is decorated very nicely. Our first impression was, "we found a gem!".... However, I have to agree with a previous review that the place could really use a "spring cleaning." Corners or the flooring & all the vents and moulding were extremely dusty with cobwebs and lent. Also, the toilet plunger broke after flushing the toilet once. With that being the only bathroom, I immediately contacted Ashton so that he could get a plumber there ASAP. Well, needless to say, 48 hours later, he said that a plumber would come fix the problem (after our stay was over). We had to flush the toilet by reaching a coat hanger down the tank filled with water. We were beyond disgusted. You would think that the renter would "make this right" by giving a partial refund for our stay, but instead we got nothing..... I will never ever rent this loft again.

Owners response: We contacted our professional cleaning service and expressed these concerns with them. The plumber was contacted immediately after we were contacted, but it was extremely difficult to find a plumber who could come out ASAP, we called multiple plumbers. The guest did not mention that they took home the keys with them, which caused issues for the next guest. We swapped out that fee, for the extra inconvenience refund they were requesting.
We always respond to concerns, ASAP, this situation was above our control.

Wonderful trip

Review submitted: October 23, 2013   Date of arrival: August 10, 2013

My husband and I stayed in this loft for our 1 year anniversary. It is located right in the heart of downtown Charleston. It is super convenient and within walking distance to all the areas of Charleston that you would want to see as someone who has never been there before. As an added bonus, the parking garage pass took away any worries about finding parking in this bustling downtown. The loft is very different and fun to stay in for a week and the building is quiet. I would recommend this vacation rental to anyone and I hope to go back again in a couple years!

Perfect Anniversary Getaway

Review submitted: October 21, 2013   Date of arrival: July 19, 2013

This beautifully designed loft is well furnished and in the perfect location for the downtown Charleston experience. It was so nice to be able to walk to all of the shops, restaurants and attractions that Charleston has to offer. We couldn't have been more pleased with this choice to celebrate our 22nd anniversary. Hopefully, we will be able to return next year...

East Bay loft

Review submitted: September 20, 2013   Date of arrival: August 26, 2013

Ashton was wonderful to deal with, all through either Email or text. He was quick to respond. So the loft is a nice place. The decor was simple, yet comfortable. The queen bed was fairly comfortable, a little small for 2 tall people... The linens were very nice, there was extra blankets and pillows. It was perfect for 2 people. I think the loft would be a little cramped for more than that due to there only being 1 bathroom/shower upstairs. We had no problems with electronics, there is a small TV upstairs, and a bigger one downstairs. The parking garage was only a block away, so pretty convenient, and a bonus that we didn't have to pay for downtown parking. The streets surrounding Lodge Alley (where the loft is located) are usually crowded, so finding parking when we arrived the first afternoon took a little while, but it was only to drop off luggage, and pick up the parking pass. It was still manageable. There are a lot of great restaurants close by, and it's not too far to walk or take a pedi-taxi to King St. There is a beautiful park about a block away, and the infamous Market is a block away. There is free Wifi, which you get the access code from the Lodge Alley front desk (which Ashton had forgotten to tell us, until we asked). The WiFi service is fair, it's was not a strong signal for whatever reason. I recommend this rental. It was overall a good experience.

Recommended for: sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: We are glad to be able to provide the Free Garage parking for our guests. It is a big advantage to our Loft, because other hotels in the area can charge up to $25 per night for parking. We want to make each guests visit to Charleston one they love and is hassle free. No worries about parking with this Loft.

Excellent location but poor wifi and poor cleaning

Review submitted: September 9, 2013   Date of arrival: August 22, 2013

I stayed for three nights at this property and while the host was great and the location superb I will not be returning back to this unit in my future visits to Charleston. I chose this location for the accessiblity to downtown Charleston and for the size and flexibility of the space.

However I was dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the unit when I arrived especially since I am paying for a separate cleaning fee in addition to the rental. The unit was cleaned after the last rental however there were numerous areas that displayed a sloppy cleaning job. For example, water marks on most of the surfaces, obvious strands of hair in the bathroom, dust bunnies, cobwebs, other items on carpet in the sleeping areas where the vaccuum had obviously overlooked. The unit did not feel like a cleaned unit. I immediately informed Ashton and he told me he wanted me to send him photos which I did.

We had issues with the unit's wi-fi which was shared under the Lodge Inn wifi. I assumed the loft had it's own wifi after reading the details in the description. I spoke with Ashton who told me to call the lobby at the Lodge Inn but they informed me there was no other wifi that would provide me with a stronger signal. So hence we could not use Netflix at the loft. That was one of the reasons why we rented the unit so that we could have access to Netflix.

One last thing, there was only twin fitted sheet available for the full sized pull out couch. We barely slept on the ill fitting sheets.

Owners response: We do have a professional cleaning company that comes directly after each guest. We reported these issues to the company, and they took action immediately. All of the linens are the correct size. I am very proud of the loft and how everyone loves the interior and the unbelievable location, in the heart of the historic district, steps to everything.

We came here for an October vacation and it was lovely. The location is perfect. Being right on East Bay street makes getting around town very easy. And the condo has everything you need. We cooked a couple of times, and found it quite satisfactory. However, it's right down the street from some great restaurants (and Baked, my new favorite coffeeshop/bakery!). A couple of mornings I jogged down East Bay and into the S.O.B. neighborhood. It was really lovely.

Overall, Ashton's place has a great location, provided a good amount of space for us, was very comfortable, and was super convenient to get in and around Charleston. We'd definitely use it again were we to come back to Charleston.
