Disappointing

Roger & Judy (Edwardsville IL)
Review submitted: May 23, 2013   Date of arrival: May 16, 2013

The hot tub is old and wore out. Finally got to use it the day before we were leaving. Maintenance was out 4 times to try and fix it. was told they have a new hot tub for the cabin but won't take time to put it in. Emailed owner 3 times about it answered me once then ignored me. Cabin was dusty and needed maintenance. Had to pay a cleaning fee then had to do part their work before we left. Do not rent from these people because all they care about is getting their money and the heck with you. Will never rent from Donna or Asa again. I do not recommend this cabin to anyone.

Owners response: We regret this cabin did not live up to this particular guests wishes. This cabin has 90+ positive reviews and we encourage guests to read all reviews to make an informed decision. The guest did encounter a minor hot tub issue and was promptly fixed. We did not hear from the guest during the stay however our on site 24/7 maintenance did and worked with them to make the stay enjoyable!

Excellent couple vacation spot! We have found our new get away spot! Cabin was immaculately clean, had everything we wanted(and more :) , the hot tub was great to sit in after a long day enjoying all both Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge have to offer. We found the cabin with no trouble using our GPS (I was a bit worried as our GPS is 3 years old but no problems :) we also enjoyed the central location of this cabin right between Gatlinburg & Pigeon forge. This is our 5th aniiversary trip to Gatlinburg and we cant wait to take our 6th :) Happy Couple :)

Little Getaway

Emily (Beaufort, MO)
Review submitted: April 23, 2013   Date of arrival: April 12, 2013

I was so excited to get to the cabin...then when we arrived I was rather disappointed. The first thing we realized was that there was supposed to be a starter supply of toilet paper and paper towels, well needless to say we had neither. When we called the maintenace/cleaning people they acted like they didnt believe us and told us they would see what they could do but couldnt make any promises, this was at like 6:00pm. They finally showed up at 10:45 with a roll of toilet paper (don't they think we had to use the restroom?) When we went to make dinner and had to wash all of the dishes before we could use them the siverwear drawer had some sort of grease in the bottom of the drawer and under the sink there is some sort of mold or something growing. Same went for the extra blankets, we went to use them on the couch at night and they had dog or some sort of animal hair all over them it appeared. Needless to say we were not as happy and relaxed as we were hoping.

Owners response: We thank this guest for choosing this cabin. We regret this guest didn't find the cabin to the standards they had asked for. This is the first we have heard of any of this and we wish the guests had contacted us so we could make them happy. We highly encourage guests to read all reviews so they can make an informed rental decision.

Bear necc

Review submitted: April 23, 2013   Date of arrival: April 18, 2013

We couldn't locate the cabin, then called the maintenance number listed. The person I spoke with provided directions but those directions were not helpful. We had to rent a hotel room in town and sent email to owner who apologized but stated I was the first person who had reported that they couldn't find the cabin. The owner sent directions but the directions sent us to the general area but I had to find the cabin on my own. Once there the cabin was as described, nice, clean. I believe the diffcult roads to the cabin should be listed, if it had been I would have chose a different location. Once at the cabin, someone across the street stated a large BEAR (600+) has been hanging out on the front porch. So due to the diffcult roads and possible Bear we didn't spend the night. I would recommend this cabin only if the person likes being high up and driving challenging roads. I love gatlinburg area.

Owners response: Hi, we want to first thank you for picking our vacation property. We provide each guest with detailed directions to the cabin, we have never had an issue except once with a guest finding the cabin, we really are so sorry this guest ran into that issue. Also part of being in the Mountains are Bears and enjoying nature. The bear in question has been relocated to the Great Smoky National park thanks to our great park rangers in the area.

Coleman (Franklin, TN)
Review submitted: February 24, 2013   Date of arrival: October 5, 2012

We had a blast at this great cabin! It was super neat, very clean, the hot tub we used every night and enjoyed! The rates were lower than any other place for the same cabin so it was a great deal, sometimes when you pay less you don't get the best but not the case with this cabin it was really a 5 star cabin!

not the greatest

Amy N. ()
Review submitted: February 22, 2013   Date of arrival: February 13, 2013

we had no wifi access available while we were there, the hot tub was not working and there was rat feces on the counter top in kitchen. We emailed owner and got a simple sorry let me look into things and no response since. This was our first and last trip to stay there.

Owners response: To Potential Guests, we highly advise review of the 84+ positive reviews on this cabin. This is the first unhappy guest we have had. To let future guests know the the wifi box which is owned by the cable company did stop working, our on site folks had a new box out within 2 hours(went out after hours), the hot tub is working, and the cabin is sprayed 2X a month to prevent bug/animal issues, We have never had any reports of rat issues. We are sorry this guest didnt find the cabin acceptable and are very proud of the 84+ other happy guests we have had.

Wonderful Visit

lauramwall (Waynesburg, KY, USA)
Review submitted: December 12, 2012   Date of arrival: December 7, 2012

I would highly recommend this cabin to a couple looking for a getaway. It was charming, clean, and right off the road. You may have some trouble with the steep hills, and the roads are a little confusing, but we eventually found our destination, and were pleasantly surprised! Everything was wonderful, and it was only minutes away from both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I would stay here again and would encourage others to do the same. There was absolutely zero hassle from the owners; they were great, and answered all my questions in a timely manner. This cabin has a wonderful jacuzzi, hot tub, and outdoor rocker-glider on the back porch. I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was there. The layout was kind of small, but was definitely more than enough for two people. The couch pulls out to a bed, so I would say it could comfortably accomodate up to 4 people. If you stay here, be sure to visit the Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, as well as some of the many attractions in Pigeon Forge. Also, be sure to follow the directions given to you by the homeowners, rather than looking up your own. They won't match, and you will probably end up getting lost. I would recommend going during the day so that you can see where your going the first time! :)

Cabin was nice fireplace wasn't turned on. Location was horrible. Very stressful finding cabin. Loved gatlinburg would never want to stay where cabin was located again.

Owners response: Hi, thank you for taking the time to review this cabin. As listed in our Manuals when booking Fireplaces are only on Oct - Feb per fire laws, this is the same at all cabins in our area. We also hate you disliked the location. Many guests find this is one of the favorite parts as its central between Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge. We thank you again for your business.

We absolutely loved this little place. It is so quaint, and very well kept. Our 3 year old was the first one to enter the cabin, and she turned to me with wide eyes and said "Mom, this place is beautiful!!" She wasn't kidding. We loved the hot tub and the jacuzzi tub as well. We also learned that having the circular drive is a HUGE plus since the roads are somewhat narrow, not to mention steep. I would love to come back to this place, and it will always be part of very fond memories for our family, as this was our first family vacation!!

Review submitted: July 17, 2012   Date of arrival: July 2, 2012

My wife and I enjoyed our honeymoon stay at the Bear Necessities Cabin. We especially enjoyed driving the winding back roads to get there. Everything was great except for the Wi-fi signal. We were able to use it a little bit on the first day, but the next four days we were unable to at all, which for us was only a minor inconvenience, but for others it would be a bigger deal. We enjoyed the hot tub and jacuzzi, the kitchen was set up well for what we needed to make. The dishwasher was a little hard to get working, but we figured all we needed was to apply a little more force when shutting it. All in all we had a great stay at the cabin. It was a good base for going out to all the different activities we participated in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Thank you very much. We look forward to returning at some point in the future!

This is the perfect cozy cabin for a girl's weekend or couple's retreat. The deck is very private and secluded with a beautiful wooded view. Inside has a wonderful sofa to curl up on for a good movie or coffee and conversation. Roads leading to home are well maintained and marked, making access easy. Centrally located so it is easy to get to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, even better if you know some of the back roads. Think I have found a new home away from home!!!!!!

During February we were lucky enough to stay @ this great cabin! It was just darling! I noticed a previous guest fussed because the whirlpool was in the bedroom, well we have stayed at 5+ cabins and they are all that way and honestly that was one of our favorite things LOVED IT! We celebrated our Honeymoon and this cabin! To top it off the owner was so kind and great to deal with!

misleading pic of bedroom

sajonty (Cleveland, TN, US)
Review submitted: March 7, 2012   Date of arrival: March 4, 2012

The location was pretty. But I hated the fact that that jacuzzi was in the bedroom by the side of the bed and the shower was so small even person of my size (5 8 and 120 pounds) could not feel comfortable. The pictures in the listing is taken in such a way that it hides this huge information easily. I loved walking around the location in the morning and hot tub works good. But I felt cheated during my entire stay and still can't believe that owner's response to my critique was that there is the picture that shows jacuzzi in the bedroom and truth is there is none. At least acknowledge it.

Recommended for: sight seeing

Owners response: We are verry sorry this guest had this impression of our cabin. We highly encourage potential renters to read ALL REVIEWS and make a decision based upon that. We have NEVER had ONE complaint on this cabin. You can see in our picture the jacuzzi is next to bed and our description also mentions that & this is pretty normal for this area. The shower is a standard size 1 person shower, yes its not huge and is a small shower but has never been an issue before. We strive for 100% guest satisfaction and over the last 2 years have gotten that.

We couldn't have asked for anything better this cabin was pure perfection! It started with a scenic but safe drive up into this cute & charming Mountain Resort area, we loved the nice level easy access driveway, the large covered & open deck areas, the glider, hot tub, gas fireplace and we were shocked to find a good Mountain View due to time of year! We hated to leave!

Cute little cabin! Exactly as described in the pictures and descriptions. Hubby loved the hot tub! Management is great and willing to fix any little issue you might have. I would definitely recommend this place to others. For others who might rent this cabin, use ONLY the directions provided by the owner. GPS and Google Maps are incorrect and will lead you astray. Fortunately I was able to call the owner and he got us back on the right track.

Very private and quiet. Directions lead us straight to the front door, easy access, no steep driveway or stairs. Easy access to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinberg, and Smoky Mountains. Rented cabin Oct 12th-18th. Wonderful stay! Cabin is beautiful! Very private! Definitely would rent again. There were two minor problems...one with the hot tub and the second was there was no hair dryer as stated in the rental paperwork, but both were taken care of so very quickly! The maintenance man was there that night and problem taken care of the next day. As far as the hair dryer, we went to town and bought one and was reimbursed by check in the mail by the time we got home.Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!

We rented this cabin for a week and had a great time. The cabin was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We would definitely rent again. The cabin was just as described. We enjoyed nearby activities like ziplining over the Pigeon River and also Whitewater rafting down the Upper Pigeon River. I would also suggest both of those activities. When we lost the directions and key code for the cabin we sent an email to the owner and received a response almost immediately. The drive up the mountain was interesting, just remember take it slow, and watch for the blind curve. If you're looking for a cozy, comfortable stay in the woods, close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge this is it. We loved it!!!!!!!!

I rented this cabin as an anniversary surprise for my husband and I! I had seen pictures of the cabin and he hadn't. When we arrived we were both very pleasantly surprised!! It was better than I could have imagined! Beautiful understated decor gave it tons of character and it was super spacious!! I cooked breakfast every morning and the kitchen was stocked with everything I could have needed, all we did was bring the food! Even though we didnt need it the cabin had a pull out couch and couodu easily and comfortably sleep 4. This cabin had tons of outdoor space and we relaxed in the hot tub every night on the back deck in total seclusion! The outdoor space is very private. We are almost sure that we will be back to this little cabin....it was just so cozy, clean and comfy!! Another perk is the location! It was up the mountain a bit but it was right in between downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge....convenient to everything!!
