This review is a little late in coming but not less enthusiastic than the others. For two years in a row my husband and I rented this home for two months during the winter. We loved staying here as it was cozy, clean, well-equipped and warm. We enjoyed the neighborhood and certainly took advantage of the bakeries and restaurants in the area. Britt and Patti obviously take pride in this home and were so easy to work with whenever we had questions or concerns. We loved it in the winter. I can only imagine what it would be like during the warmer months. We'd rent again if we hadn't purchased our own home in the area. Thanks, Patti and Britt for 4 great months of living in your little "home away from home."

Owners response:
We enjoyed having you as our test pilots during The Pilot House first cold season and then for another test flight the next year. It was a pleasure. Thank you!
We now know the house stays warm and cozy when it's cold outside. We are looking forward to new guests arriving and exploring the beautiful Maine winters. The Greater Portland area has a lot to offer. How about; a well versed art and music scene, great shopping, galleries, many cafes and restaurants, hiking along the coastline, x/c skiing or snowshoeing on the beach, a run with yaktrax on your feet to the lighthouse in fresh snow, ice-skating in Mill Creek or maybe just a few snow angels in the backyard and then some hot cocoa at home in The Pilot House!

What a great getaway! The Pilot House in South Portland is a cheery bungalow style home nestled in a neighborhood convenient to little eateries, restaurants, a picturesque park and it's just a short drive over the bridge to get to Portland. The location is easy to find. The house is spotless, and well cared for; beds are comfy, and furnishings make you feel right at home. We loved being able to take our dogs with us. Plenty of good areas to walk with them. The bakery down the street is a "must go to" destination every morning upon waking. This is a place to return to. Highly recommend!
Owners response:
We are so happy you had a good time!
We like to keep it spotless and welcome pets. They are part of the family. It seems that our guests share the same thoughts and are always very caring of The Pilot House. Thank you!
This spring we will again do our top to bottom tune-up of the house and get ready for the warmer months. The reviews keep us motivated so please keep them coming!

Excellent place to stay when you want to do sight seeing north and south of Portland. Roomy 2 bedroom house with a washer and dryer (big plus) and all that you need with respect to coffe maker, oven, microwave and stove. Will stay here again for the next trip to Portland.
Recommended for: age 55+, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway
Owners response:
We will keep on making sure The Pilot House stays ahead of the game. Organized, super clean and working well.
For all of you who enjoyed our retro neon clothes dryer, sorry, we had to retire it. We now have a very new, smooth running one instead. Our hard working clothes line got updated too. It's all ready for a new season of beach towels and sports gear. Can't wait!
In the mean time winter is arriving. The house is cozy and warm. The beach is quiet, but so beautiful. The rocky coast, the islands and the lighthouses are breathtaking after a snowstorm. Welcome!

Not enough good things could be said about The Pilot House and its owner's Patti and Britt. The house was spacious, comfortable, and had everything we could need - including a crib for our infant son. The location was ideal. It's minutes from the beach, quaint neighborhood shops, and a short drive from the breath taking Portland Headlight. Patti and Britt have taken great care to include all the details; including easy to understand directions to near by points of interest. We have already recommended Maine and The Pilot House to all of our friends. Thanks, again, Patti and Britt! -The Rincones Family
Owners response:
We are so happy you and your family enjoyed your stay.
The crib is important as well as the baby wash tub with the required yellow duck!
There are so many great areas to see in Maine. We always keep a current stack of information pamphlets for nearby activities. We also wanted to share our favorite local spots, so we wrote them down in The Pilot House book. These gems might otherwise go un-noticed when you are new to the area. Have fun!

Thanks so much for such a wonderful vacation. This was such a magical week for us with perfect beach weather, and we are so glad we chose South Portland! The area is perfect- a cute, neighborhood beach with snack bar and playground for the kids, larger beaches a quick car ride away, and all of the shopping, restaurants and tourism that Portland provides in a matter of minutes.
As for the house, this is by far the the cleanest, most well kept rental that we've ever stayed at! We really felt at home here and had everything we needed and more. The owners really took the time to think out the needs of the renters. The kids loved the large backyard and thought the Lobster trap "patio" was super cool! We loved the simple, clean decor inside, and that upstairs bathroom is an amazing use of space!
Thanks so much for a vacation we will remember for years to come!
Owners response:
Thank you!
We got the used traps from our local lobster fisherman friend. The traps look exactly the way they do when used for lobstering (minus the bait!). We look forward to watching our newly planted sea grasses and hostas come up next spring around the patio. We all know the butterfly bushes in front of the house were amazing this year.

Amazing week! The house is wonderful, the location is fantastic and the week was magic. The house offered more than I'd ever seen in a rental. The shower started as a novelty, now I miss it and will look for one for my house.
If I ever have a reason to return to South Portland, Britt and Patti will hear from me.

Owners response: Thank you! A review like this means a lot to us and keeps us motivated. We both travel extensively. We observe what is missing when we are on the road and try to make sure these things will be available at The Pilot House. Useful items, no clutter and clean is what we like. From the sound of your reviews, you do too.

The Pilot House proved to be a terrific vacation rental for a weekend getaway in Portland. It is located in a lovely community - just a five minute walk to the beach and tons of terrific local businesses are also within walking distance (Scratch Bakery has terrific bagels, Scoops has yummy ice cream). The house was immaculate and well equipped. We appreciated that the Pilot House was pet friendly, so that we could bring our dog along with us. He enjoyed playing in the large backyard. Patti an Britt were super friendly and promptly responded to all of our emails. We are hoping to return soon!
Owners response: We are glad you enjoyed The Pilot House! An update: Scratch now makes sandwiches fresh to order. Perfect for filling your picnic basket. Willard Scoops has been very popular during this unusually hot weather. All the Pilot House bedrooms and main living area have new air conditioners this summer. Enjoy!

The owners are great & hands-off (unless you need them); the place is clean which is perfect since I have allergies. Everything is nicely decorated giving you that cute New England feel; for at least a weekend I felt like a Maine resident. Beds & furniture are very comfortable, new bathroom, washer/dryer. I couldn't think of a better place to stay. Very quick walk to the beach; and 2 miles from downtown with your own private parking. Everything you could want in a cute small package. Can't wait to come back again! Thank you so much for everything!!!
Owners response:
Thank you!
You like it clean and we like it clean!
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all our guests for helping us take such a great care of The Pilot House. This week we are going through the house top to bottom to make sure it's in tip top condition for the summer season.
Welcome!

We stayed at the Pilot house with our two young children on a crisp Maine winter weekend and had a wonderful time. The house was clean and bright, really cozy and simple with lovely colors and decor. Our three year old loved his room, and we found the whole set up to be very child friendly. The owners had a well-organized book with lots of information about restaurants, things to do, etc. Location is great for exploring the whole area-- while not right in Portland, it's easy to get into the downtown, and we loved all the local options for eating (Scratch Bakery down the street and Terra Cotta Pasta Company were two of our favorites, both within walking distance!) Although it was a little cold to go to the nearby beach, we enjoyed the beautiful ocean scenery and really hope to return during the warmer months. Many thanks for a great stay and we look forward to a return visit!
Owners response:
We are glad you liked The Pilot House!
We enjoy watching the change in the sea grasses at the beach. Reds in the fall, frost covered after a cold winter night and new green growth in the spring. Maine is truly a four season place to explore and The Pilot House is a great home base for your adventures.
Thank you!

From the minute we walked into the Pilot House, we knew we made the right choice in lodging. We came up from CT to run the Maine Marathon. The location was convenient, easy to get to, on a quiet side street yet close enough to Portland that it didn't feel out of the way. The rooms are cozy, the colors are terrific, and the bathroom is incredibly cool. It's worth renting the house just to see how creatively Patti and Britt designed the bathroom, during what was clearly a recent renovation. Too bad our trip was just a weekend. I could've easily settled in for a week or two!

Owners response:
Thank you for your kind words. Our goal is to maintain the newly renovated feeling and still capture the Maine charm. We want your next stay at The Pilot House to be as enjoyable as the first.
Sincerely,
Patti and Britt

I always use reviews to help make purchase decisions but almost never reciprocate and write them. The Pilot House had no reviews when we looked but we took a leap and booked a week long stay here anyway. After a truly wonderful stay recently I'm stepping up to share our experience with others.
Great location - really just steps from the beach and local square with awesome bakery and ice cream.
Super cute house - the pictures are very accurate and everything is bright, newish and clean.
Positive features include full range of amenities - washer and dryer, AC (although the 2nd bedroom can get stuffy during the day if the doors are closed since there is only one window unit for the upstairs) and location.
The owners were great in all of our interactions and very helpful and accomodating during our stay.
We had a great time and highly recommend the Pilot House.

Thank you for your review. It means a lot to us!
This is our first year and we strive to make The Pilot House a clean, comfortable and friendly place. You should only need to bring your personal items. We will address the stuffy bedroom. We appreciate our guests comments.
We hope you will enjoy our neighborhood as much as we do.
Sincerely,
Britt and Patti
