The Crow's Nest is a charming and cozy cabin in the small, private community of "Quiet Water" in the quaint village of Yachats on the Central Oregon Coast. The name "Yachats" is derived from a Chinook Indian word meaning "dark waters at the foot of the mountain". It is nestled between the green forested mountains of the Oregon Coast Range, and the drama of the Pacific Ocean. The quiet and unhurried atmosphere of this little community offers the visitor a unique opportunity for a peaceful and restful retreat from the busy world, reading, relaxing in front of the fireplace, walking on the beach or by the river, dining out, birding, watching the sun set into the wild and beautiful Pacific Ocean or an exciting adventure year round hiking, biking, paddling, beach combing, fishing, golfing, surfing, swimming, or Tennis, and lots more.

The Cabin is beautifully decorated with a mind to relaxation. There is lovely art work, fine antique furnishings, comfy beds, soft and luscious linens, and options for music and movies. You can swim, or hot tub (seasonal pool/hot tub) or sit on the deck and contemplate the curvature of the earth with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. You can have it all, it's there for the taking.

The Crow's Nest is owned by a woman who has strong ties to the Oregon Coast, and Yachats in particular. She was born in Waldport, and brought home to her parents little home on 3rd Avenue in Yachats, which still exists today. Her parents met and courted here, and her Grandfather and Great Grandfather both had businesses in Yachats and were involved in the early development of the community. And even though the family moved away when she was quite young, the family returned again and again for holidays and vacations. So when she bought the cabin in 1995 it was to return to her hearts home. You will see her love for the coastal life expressed in her home.

The Crow's Nest is two stories with an upstairs loft. The interior is all wood, which creates a warmth and quiet that is palpable. The living room has very tall cathedral ceilings. There is a fireplace and electric baseboard heat. The windows in the back look out onto a small alder grove with the Yachats River just beyond. In front you see a grassy meadow which frequently is covered with tiny daisies. There is a private master bedroom up stairs with a comfy queen size bed, down pillows, hand crafted furniture, a sky light, and restful decorations. The master bath has a tub & shower as well as another sky light, and is furnished with big fluffy towels.

Downstairs there are three more beds, and a full bath. The sleeping accommodations downstairs are sleeping bays, that is, large window seat like arrangements. One with a double bed, and two that are twin bed sized. They are very cozy, and also comfortable for afternoon naps or reading.

The kitchen is fully equipped with the usual appliances in addition to a microwave, and a dishwasher. It is small but complete and easy to move around in. Meals can be taken at the bar, or at the table in the dining area. A BBQ is available if you wish to cook out on the deck, where there is a redwood table and chairs. There is a TV with a VHS and DVD player and a large library of movies. An AM/FM radio with CD player/MP3/Ipod connections. Games and cards are kept in the antique ice box.

It is just a short walk from the Crow's Nest to Yachats Bay across Highway 101. The Quiet Water location is just far enough from the ocean to avoid the wind and the fog, and therefore it is sunnier and warmer. There is a seasonal heated pool and a hot tub within an enclosure in the complex, as well as a tennis court for singles or doubles, and a half basket ball court.

A beautiful River Walk meanders along the Yachats River through the Quiet Water complex. It is not uncommon to see our local river otter family, and of course ducks, and birds. Eagle and Ospray have been sighted frequently along the river. One permanent resident of Quiet Water has seen elk, deer, coyote, and bear sign. The Village of Yachats is less than a half mile walk away. Several nice dining options exist, as well as a very popular brew pub. There is a video rental store that stocks all the latest releases. Yachats is very proud of its library, and museum if you are so inclined. The Yachats Arts Guild Gallery offers a number of events throughout the year at the Yachats Commons.

You can walk from your front door to the beautiful sandy beach along Yachats Bay; the pleasant walk is less than half a mile and includes a stroll over the Yachats River bridge. The river itself runs through the Quiet Water community, with a beautiful path following the water and allowing occasional glimpses of otters, eagles, and other wildlife. The house is located in a peaceful and quiet location, but is still within half a mile of the village of Yachats with its high-quality selection of restaurants, coffeehouses, and a popular brewery. Heading a bit further afield, you won't want to miss the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and its excellent hikes, or head north to Newport to visit the historic waterfront and Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Or, you could always just curl up in that window seat by the fire and do absolutely nothing at all!
