activities and attractions in Freeport Texas

San Luis Pass is famous for having some of the best fishing along the Gulf Coast, and so much more! The 12-mile beach connecting San Luis Pass and Surfside stretches out to provide a perfect spot for picnics, kite-flying, and building castles in the sand. You can also surf, swim, hunt for shells, and sunbathe — just a sample of the many activities available on Treasure Island.

Only 20 minutes away is historic Galveston. Here you can enjoy the thrills of Schlitterbahn water park, tour Moody Gardens, shop The Strand, dine at fabulous restaurants, play miniature golf, take in a movie, rent a bike, and more.

In the other direction, 20 minutes away, is Surfside, where you will find great restaurants, shopping, and fishing. A premier fishing area, Surfside offers wade and drift fishing, and many people enjoy surf fishing along the beach in front of our house. Deep sea fishing expeditions can also be booked out of Surfside.

In the evening, after a full day of sun and fun, relax outside on the beach house deck and drink in some amazing stargazing — away from the bright lights and tourist crowds of Galveston and Surfside.

Situated on The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, San Luis Pass provides one of the state's top ten birding areas. Grab your binoculars — or use ours to watch the pelicans dive and the dolphins play.

Glorious holiday location!

Review submitted: July 6, 2012   Date of arrival: March 14, 2012

My friends and I loved this house. We stayed for 5 nights and loved every minute of it. Driving down the beach in that Club Car made the entire trip much more enjoyable. We had 3 people and an ice chest in that cart for the better part of the first few days. There is a boat ramp, Parks and Wildlife office, playgrounds, pavilions, corner store, bait shop, peirs, canoe routes, and an outdoor cafe within minutes of this corner lot. The guide at the Tx Park and wildlife was helpful and informative in learning about the area and its history.

The extra few lots of grassy fields behind the house make a great spot for sports and activities. The palm trees are close enough to the driveway and road to still utilize that back area for a football game or frisbee. There is a private outdoor shower below the stairs so we didn't have to track sand upstairs. The 360 degree porch on this house was perfect for viewing the entire area. There are no neighbors close by, so it really opens up most of the pennensula for you to gaze at.

The locals smiled and waved when we drove by. These may be other renters or residents, I am not sure. The house itself and the area around it are very clean and well kept. The beds were top notch pillow tops and even the foldout couch was very comfortable. The big HD television and speaker system made a great mini movie theater at night.

The utility lift made unloading the luggage and groceries easy. It brought our 350lbs of food and gear up basically right into the kitchen. There is even a small, flat screen tv on the kitchen counter near the bar. My friends and I truly enjoyed this beach house and had a great time with all the activities nearby. This was a 5 star location and I will definitely be visiting again.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: I really appreciate the glowing report, Billy. You make me feel really good about all the work we did to prepare our home for visitors. Since you and your friends are young adults, it is especially heartening to know that you had such a good time. hope you will join us again when you want a few days of R & R.

My fun beach adventure on Treasure Island

Pat S (Dallas, TX USA)
Review submitted: July 6, 2012   Date of arrival: June 1, 2012

A weekend at the beach on Treasure Island — how adventurous does THAT sound?! It was adventurous and relaxing, too. The house had everything we needed, with the convenient utility lift, a fully equipped kitchen, the large open living room, and so many choices for amusing ourselves. We had plenty of room for entertaining and lots of seating areas with spectacular views for iced drinks over conversation. I slept great in the guest bedroom — a good night's sleep is unusual when I am away from home.

I'm an artist, I love the Gulf Coast, and being only a brief walk from the waves was a real plus. The golf cart made quick trips more fun and so easy. We scooted over the bridges and across the dunes to enjoy the sun and surf, and over to the nearby store, boat launch, and community facilities to check out the fishing, the wild life, the kids crabbing along the shore, and, of all the unexpected things, a photo shoot of some kind that had young people posing with the ocean as a backdrop — so much fun!
