vacation rental description

This truly stunning house is centrally located in an excellent neighborhood and is truly the perfect spot for Jazz Fest, getting to the French Quarter, the Museum of Art, Cafe Degas and many other great attractions in the city. The fairgrounds are literally in the backyard and the place is a quick 5 minute drive over to the French Quarter. There are three bedrooms and 2 baths here, a large kitchen (no stove though), a kitchenette area, 2 living rooms, a reading room and a even a basic weight room. This listing is for the entire downstairs, about 2500 square feet with a private, separate entrance from the upstairs.

The owner, Bill, in is one of the city's most talented interior designers as pictures might hint at, and staying here in person is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Bill helped me decorate my house on a major budget (see 'City Park, 7 Min to French Qtr., SAFE GREAT AREA!!') so I'm returning the favor by helping him rent his downstairs out for some additional income to help maintain this historic home in its pristine condition. He will stay upstairs, which is a separate unit but one of us will be there to greet you, give you keys and get you settled. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or send me a message. Thanks for your interest!

Character house, wonderful neigbourhood. Caffeinate yourself, wine and dine... all 2 minutes away.

The entire house is beautifully and eclectically decorated in fabulous bright colors, with hand painted walls and floors and hand-picked pieces of New Orleans style art. Bill, the Owner stayed in an upstairs apartment with a separate entrance; we didn't even notice he was there. Mike, his friend, coordinated the hassle-free booking.

One side of the huge house has two bedrooms which share a bathroom, large lounge and large kitchen. A door leads to the other half of the house through a third bedroom with ensuite bathroom, then through a small kitchen into a second large lounge (you have to walk through the bedroom and kitchen to get to this).

Though there is no laundry, a friendly laundromat is just a few blocks away -- a wash is $2.25, and drying starts at 50 cents. We took our clothes to the laundromat and walked to the nearby coffee shop for a strong cup of New Orleans finest while waiting.

Steps away from coffee shop, on the corner, is Café Degas -- absolutely delicious and a must for Sunday Brunch. We ate there more than once. A book store, grocery store and wine bar are also right there as well as Lola's and two other restaurants. The area has a very residential feel. Outside of this small enclave of stores it is only beautiful New Orleans houses. A quaint tiny park opposite Café Degas has tables and chairs set up for chess.

The house is steps from the Jackson-Esplanade bus line (number 91) and within walking distance to the Canal Street cable car, though it can be some time between services, so check the schedule. A one way trip is $1.25 and a one day pass is $3.00. Drive time is very quick to the French Quarter. We did walk on one occasion -- it took about an hour.

We wanted to get a feel of a New Orleans neighborhood and this house is perfect for that. Of all the areas we visited, this house sits in one of the prettiest little pockets. It is far enough away from the Quarter for some peace and quiet, but close enough to easily visit. St. Louis Cemetary No.3 is just a block away and makes for an interesting walk.

As this house is the Owners residence, his food was in the fridge, and his toiletries were in the bathroom -- we really enjoyed the lived-in feel, but if you are looking for a serviced apartment or hotel stay this is not for you. Expect to wash your dishes and do what you can to keep the place tidy. For us it was just perfect.

Amazing decor, wonderful neighborhood, authentic New Orleans experience. Highly recommended.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway
