Leapin' Lizard Guest House in Terlingua

Leapin' Lizard Guest House is a charming adobe and stone cottage with easy access to the west entrance of Big Bend National Park . Two and two-tenths miles from old Terlingua Ghostown and one mile off of Hwy. 170, it sits at the end of its own road on twenty acres of desert, with an unbeatable view of the Chisos Mountains. It offers plenty of peace and privacy, along with the convenience of being close to other area attractions.

   The Lizard is a solar house, so there are no power lines to clutter your view. Its a rain catchment house as well, harvesting rainwater off of its own roof. You can run your lap-top or charge your smart phone, but leave the blow dryer at home. High energy use appliances are too much for this solar system, so go natural and let the desert breeze dry your hair for you.

   The porch functions as a kitchen and laze-about area, with plenty of comfortable seating and a chiminea to enjoy a fire in cool weather. There's a full-sized gas refrigerator, a 4-burner cook-top, a Weber grill, and all the cookware you need to fix gourmet breakfast tacos or grill some tasty rib-eyes. Coffee fixins' are provided, along with basic spices and plenty of fresh drinking water in a crockery dispenser.

   The, ahem, facilities are in a separate adobe building, 30 feet from the house. It has a Stor-Burn propane incinerating toilet, a sink, and the most important prerequisite for such a place, a great view.

   One more thing - there's a separate patio and shaded area just north of the house, with a small upstairs deck complete with a full-sized bed. If sleeping out under the stars is something you rarely get to do, go for it! The stars are magnificent in Big Bend.

The rates are based on double occupancy, wth a charge of $15 per person per night for any additional persons. The Lizard is available from October 1st  through the end of April, and in peak weeks the maximum rates apply. On in-between dates, the lesser rates may apply. Pets are sometimes allowed, but certain rules apply. There is a refundable damage deposit of $100 per pet. Call or email for more information.
