A gorgeous, lake-view home

Review submitted: August 19, 2013   Date of arrival: July 29, 2013

This home is a beautiful, three story, lake-view home in a quiet neighborhood overlooking Lake Vallecito, CO. We have rented this home three different times during the past five years and plan on returning again.
The property is perfectly clean and all of the amenities are in excellent condition. Even though you are "out in the country," it has satellite T.V., WiFi, and long-distance phone access if you need to stay in touch. Working with Teri, the owner/manager is pleasant and easy, and she makes herself available if you have any questions or concerns.
Our family has enjoyed the Durango area for over 30 years and this home has made our visits even more enjoyable. Though it is approximately 25 miles east of town, it is near enough to take in the Durango tourist activities; such as, the Durango-Silverton train, the Bar-D Chuck Wagon show, and Jeeping in the mountains near Silverton, Telluride, and Ouray. The fishing on Lake Vallecito is not what it used to be, but there is still unmatched hiking and backpacking with fantastic creek fishing in the nearby mountains.
My only hesitancy in making this recommendation is that it might become too popular and be unavailable when I attempt to book it in the future!

Beautiful Vacation

Review submitted: July 23, 2013   Date of arrival: July 13, 2013

Beautiful location/view -- house very nice - everything you need for a week's vacation. Very relaxing area, deer all around the house morning/noon/night. 2 eagle nests, 1 on drive to house other down the road by lake. Kitchen very stocked with dishes/pots/pans. Laundry room was a plus. Neighbor very friendly, helped with some questions. Humming bird feeder on deck kept us entertained.
I think we turned the TV on 1 or 2 times to catchup on news only. Again, beautiful view of mountains/lake/thunderstorms. We are thinking of going again same time next year!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Living the High Life

Review submitted: October 3, 2012   Date of arrival: August 20, 2012

We spent 13 days in this lovely home at the end of August, and into early September. It was just the 2 of us and our German Shepherd dog Maverick; we all wanted to escape the AZ heat and enjoy some fresh mountain air for a couple of weeks.

The house was great; very clean and well appointed. The location was wonderful; a mile up a winding dirt road about 500 feet above the lake in a neighborhood of about a dozen or so houses - all well spaced apart.

The community of Vallecito has a couple of restaurants if you don't want to make the 30 minute drive into Durango. The folks at Pura Vida Cafe were fun - a great place for a margarita or cold beer!

Go for a trail ride with Big Corral trail rides in Vallecito - we did the breakfast ride - great fun, beautiful scenery and wonderful value.

Nature is everywhere. From the deck we saw multiple deer, including a couple of big bucks. We also saw a black bear cub sat on the turnaround on the drive, and we heard his mother in the trees just behind - we saw 4 sets of eyes reflecting our flashlight beam. The hummingbirds and chipmunks were fun to watch, and we even had an encounter with a black snake in the long grass just by the garage! My wife also thought she heard a mountain lion one early morning - it certainly wasn't a house cat screeching!

Overall it was a wonderful stay; the only reason it didn't get 5 stars was that communication with the owners was a little erratic while trying to book. In fact we originally planned to arrive a week later, and had completed the paperwork, only to find out later that they had double booked the second week (the week of Labor Day had been booked much earlier in the year). However, when Teri realized this error, we were able to change our vacation dates because we work for ourselves. Teri gave us a break on the deal for the inconvenience, so even though our original plan of being away for Labor Day and my birthday during that second week didn't quite come off, it all worked out in the end.

We hope to return some day when we want to escape the heat, and would heartily recommend this place to friends and family..
