vacation rental description

Permit #BBHA20110

Hana, Maui is the place to get away from it all! It is Paradise found, unspoiled by tourism and offers incredible beauty everywhere you look. With the Pacific Ocean on one side and bordered by lush mountain peaks, you will feel the magic of this tropical retreat. Imagine sitting on your private Lanai and gazing out at the ever changing surf. On days when the surf is up be entertained by some of the best surfers in the state. On calmer days watch the stand up paddle boarders and bogie boarders. However the best entertainment is during the Winter Season when the whales appear (binoculars provided for best viewing). If hiking is you passion there are three incredible hikes right outside your front door, or drive 7 miles to Oheo Gulch (7 Sacred Pools) and hike through the bamboo forest up to the 400 Foot drop Waimuku Falls. Our Hamoa Beach Cottage is ideal for just relaxing, cooking (gourmet kitchen and gas barbecue grill) and outdoor dining. This is Paradise Found!

Adventures in Paradise!: If you ever dreamed of a remote tropical place situated gazing out the blue-green Pacific Ocean then the Hamoa Beach Cottage will fill this vision. Breathtaking views abound everywhere and if love to hike then you came to the right location. Just outside your door are three hikes to enjoy, no need to even get into your car. The quaint town of Hana is just two miles away and there is a wonderful trail, off the main road through rolling hills with panoramic views of the ocean every step on the way. If you only have one day then the must-do hike is just a short 7 mile drive from the Cottage, located at the Haleakala National Forest, know as the Seven Sacred Pools. Get an early start to avoid the crowds and take the one trail head up to the tallest waterfall you can hike to on Maui, the 400 ft drop Waimuku Falls. Meander through bamboo forests that is so dense and if it is windy it sounds like a symphony of wind chimes. This is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed!

Eco tourism abounds!: Hana is known for it's beauty and isolation and eco tourism abounds. We have wonderful activities for everyone to enjoy including numerous cultural events. If you love kayaking, Kevin will take you out to a pristine colorful reef where you can snorkel and perhaps catch a glimpse of a sea turtle. Even if you don't get wet the beauty of seeing Hana town from the bay is breathtaking. There are two horseback riding stables in the Hana area and one is guided by locals who knows his history and explains the plants and animals and also the Hawaiian culture during this ride. More into relaxing, Hana has incredible massage therapists available that offer a wide variety of massages, including the Hawaiian Lomilomi. There are also cave tours, botanical gardens, motorized hang gliding, regular air gliding, an art gallery featuring local artist and many of the Hana artists also do private showings in their homes, historical sites and a small museum. So much to see and enjoy in the Hana area

For the love of food!: If one of the things you love to do on vacation is eat then Hana is a unique area as it has so much to offer in the way of food! We don't have McDonald's or Starbucks, but we do have our own Hawaiian version of fast food. All along the Hana Highway you will find farmer's markets, little stands that will sell all that they have grown. Most will offer free samples of some of the most exotic fruits and vegetables you have tried, including breadfruit, sour sap, low acid pineapples, coconuts, lychee, rambutan, jackfruit, etc. Many of the stands offer fresh homemade banana or macnut breads or try some homemade coconut ice cream. There are also Thai food, Chinese food, local plate lunch barbecue (meat, mac salad, 2 scoops rice) pasta, vegetarian, hamburger, and numerous other vendors. If you are lucky and the fisherman are catching, they will filet a beautiful piece of fish for your evening meal and the two general stores in town carry fresh local beef. You won't go hungry in Hana!

Slice of Paradise

Review submitted: August 21, 2014   Date of arrival: June 22, 2014

We arrived at the cottage after dark and our hosts had left the lights on, music playing and windows cast wide open with the soft ocean breeze floating through. It was a perfect welcome, except we couldn't really see the surroundings. But then morning came. When the sun rose we pulled back the drapes and were stunned by the incredible view and the ocean which seemed almost close enough to touch. Spectacular! We spent two weeks in Maui and the four days we spent at the cottage were hands-down the best four days of the trip. We lamented not being able to stay longer (next time, indeed!). The cottage was well appointed, impeccably clean, surrounded by the most well-manicured garden in the neighborhood and Sandi and Dan gave us so much privacy we were able to pretend we actually lived at this place on Hamoa Beach! One day it rained most of the day but we simply sat on the lanai in our shorts with books and the amazing view, enjoying every bit of the warm, tropical downpour. Plenty of things to see and do around Hana, which all the guidebooks will steer you, but sitting on our lanai and drinking in the surroundings was a highlight by itself. Great place, great location--we've raved about it to all our friends, especially those who are aching for a second-honeymoon location.

Perfect Low Key Vacation

Review submitted: April 8, 2014   Date of arrival: March 16, 2014

It's not often that a vacation rental is better than advertised, but this one truly is. We were looking for a low-key holiday in a beautiful setting where we'd have quiet, comfort and privacy and we found it at Hana Oceanfront Cottages. The two hour drive along the Hana Highway was worth every twisty mile. We arrived in darkness at about 7:15pm, to a cozily lighted cottage with wonderfully welcoming Hawaiian music playing through the TV inside. The ceiling fans and screened windows provide nice air flow for sleeping and the bed is very comfortable. We awoke the next day to an amazing pink sky and the panorama of Hamoa Beach at sunrise.

We kept saying to each other the entire week we were there, "Next time, 2 weeks!" we sat on the front porch, (Lanai), watching whales breach out in the bay in the late afternoon.

Sandi and Dan are lovely hosts, and very knowledgeable about the area. Sandi has prepared a binder with lots of suggestions on things to see and do.

The (easy) concrete steps down to Hamoa Beach are just a few dozen yards down and across the road from the cottage....a nice stroll with your coffee on an early morning to watch a local surfer or two looking to catch a couple of good waves before going off to work. Later on a few tourists arrive, but there's not a lot of parking, so not many. :) There's one Hotel in Hana that shuttles beach goers to Hamoa, but again, it was never very busy and we were there during Spring Break.

While much of the Hana Hwy sees rain off and on, especially in the Winter and Spring, once you reach Hamoa Bay you'll find that it tends to have its own micro-climate of sunshine.

Pick up groceries at the Costco, Walmart or Safeway in Kahului. Buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the local farm stands along the Hana Hwy. If you need something there are two grocery stores in the town of Hana.

We met the couple staying in the main house suite...they'd been coming back every year for 13 years. We'll be back!

“Magical hideaway!”

Review submitted: March 9, 2014   Date of arrival: December 27, 2013

We had the privilege of staying at the cottage for a week over New Year and it was just heavenly!
The cottage is nestled in a rainforest that is so lush, tropical and peaceful and right across from one of the most gorgeous beaches you will ever see. It is remote and very different from the suburbia of the resort areas. It is what we imagined the true Hawaii to be.
This was our first time staying at a self-catering establishment and we were so happy and could not have asked for anything more. The cottage was like a home away from home. It was extremely clean, fully equipped and tastefully decorated. We were able to instantly relax and be comfortable in this very private and magical setting. Rain or shine we sat on the porch to have all our meals, watching the ocean, listening to the waves and at night admiring the star studded sky.
Our hosts Sandi and Dan could not have been more hospitable. Their trust in their guests, generously and helpfulness made you feel so welcome. The information package that Sandy mails to your home before arrival is filled with helpful information like stocking on groceries if your stay is a little longer. While there are a couple of grocery stores in Hana, their offerings are very basic and a bit pricey. During our stay the ocean was quite rough and so it was hard to come by fresh fish as the fishermen could not go out. We did however really enjoy the delicious free range local Beef. We bought some of our fruits and vegetables at local stands, and Hana Fresh, where we could buy wonderful (but limited) organic produce, macadamia banana bread, and the best citrus jam we have ever had.
Thanks again, Sandi and Dan. We had an amazing vacation, and can't wait to return to this wonderful place!
