Lodge By The Lake in Barkhamsted

This turn-of-the-century family lake lodge is in the township of
Barkhamsted, Connecticut. It is in the foothills of the Berkshires,
nestled at the northwest bank of Connecticut's clearest lake, West
Hill Lake. Other points of interest, in relatively close proximity,
are New York City, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Long
Island Sound, Boston, Plymouth, New Haven, Mystic Seaport, The
Berkshires and more.

The owner retained the nostalgic feel of a comfortable antique lake
home while updating it with state-of-the-art insulation and central
heating. The original fireplace was of course retained as well. The
architecture is in the style of Adirondack arts and crafts. Much of
the furnishings are of that style as well.

The four bedrooms, which all have direct access to a full bath room,
can accomodate 10. There are studio beds in nooks and crannies on the
first floor which can in most circumstances accomodate 6 more. All
four bedrooms open onto an interior balcony which overlooks the
living room and a bank of windows. One of the bedrooms opens onto
an outdoor balcony. There are 3 full baths. The country kitchen and
family room are spacious, as well as the living and dining and
library alcove area.

The old fashioned wrap-around porch overlooks the lake, a pine
forest, a huge dock, boat house, kayak rack, and grassy beach (all on
the premises). There are plenty of other quaint New England towns and
villages nearby as well as woodsy walking and biking trails. The
house and grounds are nostalgic and rustic.

Renters have the option of renting a completely separate apartment on
the far end of the house.

The house can be rented year round. There is a website used when the
owners once ran a Bed and Breakfast. Now the site is used just to
provide more pictures and regional information.
