vacation rental description

Upper Rawley Cabin is a 4 bedroom 2 bath home that sits on 5 total acres, located in the mountains just west of Harrisonburg, Virginia. There is one king bed, two queen beds, and a full/double bed in the bedrooms. There is also a loft with two double/queen futon mattresses. This space is ideal for older kids and teenagers. The home features a screened in porch, with a queen sized futon which is great in the spring and summer months and has a stone porch with a gas grill. The house has all newly updated stainless appliances.

Beloved pets are welcome but we do require a Cleaning Fee because we wash the couch covers after every guest with pets stays at the cabin.
Upper Rawley Cabin is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere.

    Beautiful, Home Away From Home

    Angelique H. ()
Review submitted: June 12, 2013   Date of arrival: May 28, 2013

This lovely cabin is perched on the side of Rawley Springs Mountain, close to the West Virginia border (be prepared for a gravel mountain road). A family of 4 and expecting additional guests later in the week, this cabin was everything we'd hoped for!

The owners met us upon check-in, gifted us with some beautiful, home-raised chicken eggs, and showed us around the house- four bedrooms and a cozy loft, big great room (living/dining/kitchen combo), a patio and a screened porch. The house was clean, airy and well-built. The kitchen was stocked with pots/pans/utensils and even basic condiments/spices and the cabin sports a decent array of brocuhres. We brought clothes & meals and we were ready to go!

During our stay, we visited the Luray Caverns, did a walking tour of Harrisonburg (their Visitor's Center is top notch) and spent hours at the Explore More Children's Museum. We took a (free!) trolly tour of Staunton (pronounced 'Stan-tin'- who knew?), & visited the Frontier Culture Museum and Belle Grove Plantation (all attractions within an hour of the cabin). One of our favorite 'outings' was wading/swimming in 'Black Run'- a secluded section of the creek at the bottom of the mountain suggested by our host, Steven. The small pebble beach was FILLED with butterflies during our visits, the water was crystal clear and COLD.

Steven and Katie were very friendly and were available by phone/text to answer questions throughout our visit- a nice benefit for first time visitors to the area.

Overall, this was an excellent base to explore the area- a secluded get away perfect for lazy mornings and peaceful moments.

Wonderful house, great hosts & beautiful location!

Review submitted: May 30, 2013   Date of arrival: May 7, 2013

How fantastic it was to arrive at the Upper Rawley cabin, in Rawley Springs, Virginia, with a warm fire already started; fresh farm raised eggs in the refrigerator, and to be greeted by our wonderful host, Steven, who insisted on helping us unload our car in the pouring rain. Steven’s adorable daughter, Anna Kate, was there also and she took my wife and daughter by the hand and gave them a grand tour of the house. The cabin is everything advertised and more, spacious, furnished nicely and well-maintained, with a screened-in porch, as well as a stone patio full of bird feeders and a fenced-in yard. It was great fun to watch the hummingbirds flitting around, and a friendly squirrel attempting to get into the bird feeders for a free lunch. The cabin is located on the edge of the George Washington National Forest and within easy driving distance of the Shenandoah National Park. We are avid hikers, and Steven was very helpful in giving us suggestions and very accurate directions for nearby hikes. We spent the week hiking, visiting local wineries, a battlefield and the Virginia Civil War Museum, driving along Skyline Drive with its world class overlooks, and just taking it easy. The cabin was well-stocked with all the necessities that we needed; the beds were luxurious; and the entire house was very comfortable. A bonus that we discovered, were several ethnic restaurants in close-by Harrisonburg, where we sampled culinary delights from Peru, the Mediterranean and Greece. Both Steven and Katie were more than accommodating and insisted that we should call them if we needed anything; you couldn’t find better hosts. We would not hesitate to recommend this great mountain cabin to anyone interested in a weekend getaway or a week-long relaxing stay in a quiet, picturesque, peaceful setting. We hope to go back ourselves at some later date.

    Perfect Retreat

    Laura R. ()
Review submitted: April 6, 2013   Date of arrival: April 1, 2013

I'm not sure who loved this place the most...my husband and I, our 3 sons or our yellow lab! It was absolutely wonderful and we're already talking about our next visit to the Upper Rawley Cabin. How cozy to arrive w/the smoke coming out of the smokestack, fresh eggs from their hen house in the fridge and Katie and Steven awaiting us w/anything we should need. I must say the home was very cozy, numerous birds at the feeder during the day and the beds were so comfortable I had difficulty getting out each day. How nice to be able to explore the area on various hikes and see the sun peeking over the mountains each morning. How I wished we could've stayed longer.

If you're looking for a retreat w/just about everything your heart could desire and more...this is the place for you! Can't wait for next time!!
